As a role-playing note: Brevoy is very lord dominated place based on the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, the "Game of Thrones". So Maksim is very aware of his place in Brevic society. Also reading the Erastil entry I see some internal inconsistances. While those that practice the faith are relatively equal in each others treatment still the rules that bind society, written and unwritten must be followed. Useful people are to be respected, good leaders followed, and the willfully useless shunned or worse. What matters is the community. So in public, in societies that have greatfolk and smallfolk, acting correctly, i.e. the low-born submit to the lords, is the lawful thing to do. Now Maksim isn't really lawful and will adapt to a more chaotic enviroment quickly but for now Brevic rules applies. Of course he will attempt to follow Silva's wishes as best he can, for now.
I think the healing Maksim will bring will help carry the load a bit, and I'll normally keep a reserve for the unexpected.

Sounds good Maksim. I am transitioning Silva to a more traditional paladin from
a more woodsy one so your introduction was awesome! I really like the way you are RPing him. I will be more of a Sturm from dragonlance(true LG/leader type).

DM_Ego |

The search for a reluctant leader continues, what are you guys planning on doing in thr morning so i can narrate you lsst this sticking point? Lets make a decision by tomorrow morning. As far as it goes i'd make Egan the party leader, he has easiky the highest diomacy score and take advice from everyone. Its not like he's going to have time to dictate everyones actions in combat and you can make a plan of action before you go in as a group.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Egan promises to be either lawful or good. :P
His first act as leader is to direct Silva to organize the assault on the bandit camp. ;)
totally our of character here, but I sure was hoping to level before we tangled with the bandits. My character becomes much better in combat at level 2. There was discussion earlier about us being close, and depending on how well we did with the few we might level...

As to wet bows, I wasn't looking to RAW but my memory of medievel history. I just googled info and there is some debate as to how water-proff a bow was then. Modern ones are, old ones may be waxed, bow and string, to make water-resistant. I guess a light rain/snow is not a problem but full storms are. The DM has made his ruling so I'll drop it and we move on.
Maksim does not have stealth, more cleric than forester whatever he thinks he is. It will be a while but I thinking a one-level dip into Ranger may be appropriate for Maksim. Opinions anyone?

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Has anyone kept up with the loot found to date?
Ego, do you have a handy list? If not I can go back through the posts and gather it all together.
I am fine with splitting everything evenly. Of we could buy a few communal items and then do a split. Things like a healer's kit, climbing kit, Wand of cure light (when we can afford it). some antitoxin, and maybe an antiplague or two. Thoughts?

Back to woodbadge weekend 2 starting 7am tomorrow until late sunday.
If it helps move things along, vael plans to use his flamejet ability to hit bandits at range, preferable lining up 2 or more, setting them on fire. If its close range he has burnings hands and if things go bad, he will cast vanish and move away, using the cure light potion he was given to heal.

DM_Ego |

I'm going to give Vael until tomorrow morning to post, i don't want to just skip him as there's probably a good reason he is not posting. If he hasn't updated us by tomorrow i'll move on.
Andrej, technically the broad side of a barn is AC 4 so you would have hit, you can at least take solace in that :p

Once again, I thinking of taking a level of Ranger to firm up his forestry skills then going back to Cleric, a bit of a healing hit but good for other areas. Last call for anyone to offer their opinion or advice; even if it's "It's your character do what you want, you don't need me telling what to do." I would like a sounding board if nothing else so i don't overlook something.

Silva Pasrati |

It definitely fits stylistically with you character. If you think it enhances you "fluff" and "crunch", I am all for it. After all: "It's your character do what you want, you don't need me telling what to do." ;)
I appreciate you asking. I usually do the same.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Hard to take a one level dip into Ranger. You will get BAB as a cleric this level, and next. What are you after? What does Ranger really give you except martial weapons and a few more skill points at level 1?

![]() |
I'm with Egan on this. You can up your survival skills with your 2-3 level 2 skill points and you get your BAB pumping - level 3 you can take Weapon focus even. Skill points at this point don't all have to go to traditional clerical skills like Religion on Heal etc.
Pop a point into Stealth, one to survival, one to Knowledge: Nature. You can then choose either another skill or HPs with your fav. class bonus.

Andrej 'Catfoot' |

Ok... Night Fighting. Humanity has been doing it for a very long time.
Whats the ruling here? What modifiers are we gonna face etc?
We'll have to assuming (worst case) that the enemy is sleeping in armour (light) but we can try stealth and coup de grace against sleeping targets (or a sleep spell dropped right on top of them by our Elf...
From a mechanical stand point walk us through this if you will.

DM_Ego |

Night fighting would depend on the ambient light, since it would not be total darkness i would say that everything within 30ft would have a 20% miss chance and everything past that 50%. Running would require an acrobatics check depending on the terrain to not fall prone and charging would be prohibited once again depending on terrain, we'd be rolling perception for targets past 30ft as well. The bandits will probably have a fire or some form of light as they are human as well so that would create a pool of light where those conditions did not apply.
The storm could cut that visibility down to 20, 10 or even 5 ft depending on the severity, if someone makes a dc 15 survival check i will give you an approximate time the storm will begin overnight.

Maksim Zavid Radoslavov |

The benefit of going ranger would be the class skill bonus to many useful skills. However I'll go pure cleric, it seems the most beneficial over all, though I still thinks it's a closer call then some of you seem to believe.
My character is updated.
As to fight, today, at night, or next day.
If we can recharge our spells that would be good, I have more slots now. At a night fight Maksim's combat abilities are likely reduced a lot, same for a storm.
As a cleric Maksim's stealth is not that good, only a plus 4.
I'd like to wait but let's check the weather first.
Busy be a little while before I game post.

DM_Ego |

Plus four is quite a high stealth score against low encounters, for some reason bandits have terrible perception scores. I do agree that ranger has some good stuff at level one but you give up an aweful lot from cleric to pick it up, later channel progression, later higher level spells, later domain abilities. Most important i think is the last one as the domain abilities can be quite powerful at the level you get them but can pale to insignificance af higher levels.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Ego and Egan agree. :)
After years of playing this game, there are a few truths that I have observed. One is that casters should NEVER give up spell progression. A fighter type might dip into cleric or druid or even an arcane class but their role does not change. They are still a fighter, and might even be better at their role with the dip. Its just not true as a caster. We have a wizard in our home group that is elven and took a level of fighter and then a prestige class that had no spell progression at first level (Eldridge Knight). At 8th level this character skill has no 4th level spells. And he has died twice in the front lines with a melee weapon in his hands. He is not a fighter. He does not have fighter BAB or AC or health. He is a wizard that is down two caster levels. He is a good player but his character fails to contribute a the the challenge level we face routinely.
Especially in PBP where you may be at a level for 6 months, consider carefully your progression.
