Vladimir Ducheski |
"Seems like we are fairly close to the temple Trent had mentioned, if we want to check it out. Likely only a few miles to southwest from here. Of course, given our last temple experience, we may be better suited to stay the course and continue southeast."
Durielle Omenstar |
Durielle perks up at Vladimir's announcement. Having been rather quiet these past few days, she is starting to pay more attention to her surroundings...well, at least when people are talking.
Looking a little embarrassed, the elf says, "Oh, is this one I had gotten confused? Surely, it's worth a look though. One of our companions who has a closer connection with their godly patron should be able to detect if anything may be amiss, no?"
Sugua Bran't |
Sugua shrugs " Last I checked if it ain't your god that doesnt tend to be the case. Then again I ain't a fingerwaggler.. which I guess my god would congratulate. You can move off the course but dont be surprised if it goes badly. "
Vladimir Ducheski |
"For once, Sugua, we find ourselves in agreement. I personally think we should stay the course, but felt it prudent to at least let everyone know we were close to one of the landmarks Trent had described."
Sugua Bran't |
Sugua puts up two fingers, " This is the second time but thats fine it shows you're learning. In any case its goin' to have to get looked at the next time around... The temple with the really dark, darkness might not be bad to deal with once we find a way to get rid of it.. like.. something that's the opposite. Might want to have a dinner party with Kressle before either of those. I hear its BYOB, Bring your own Blade. Or Bow.. Bow works. HAHA! "
DM Tuyena |
Ok then, the party passing up the temple will finish exploring the two hexes South of the bear traps. Which gives you two full rings around Oleg's clear. (Excepting the temple of some sort of evil)
It's been enough time to return to Oleg's and claim your new gear. So I assume you will do so. Where to next?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Vladimir Ducheski |
A quick stop at Oleg's to reprovision/pick up our orders, and then being exploration of the hex 2 hexes to the west of Oleg's then to the temple?
DM Tuyena |
The party setting off West finds themselves after a days travel looking at a pair of tracks they now can reasonably recognize as tatzlwurm marks.
However, there are a good number of tracks, hard to tell how many in certain, but it appears as if a group of them have made their home near here.
Assuming the party takes a little interest.
Followong the tracks a few hundred yards reveals to you a small cave mouth along a small river, the outside of which is strewn with bones of various creatures, including some that look humanoid.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Sugua Bran't |
Alcohol.. or whatever is in his waterskin..
Sugua looks at the bones and smiles motioning to the cave " Lizard-cave, I wonder if there is a nest in there? Don't those things get big like those ones called 'Drakes'? Or do they stay small? Either way looks like somethin' to do. *Belch* " Sugua wipes his mouth with he left forearm and shoulders his blade. Peering in a little ways.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Durielle Omenstar |
Unless prevented, Durielle performs the actions necessary for her natural divination ability.
"Are these tracks for a dangerous animal? I believe we will need to clear them out for any settlers to be willing to come, correct?"
I'm guessing these tatzlwurms would require Knowledge (Nature)? That's one Durielle has not.
Durielle Omenstar |
Does that make it Arcana?
Durielle suddenly remembers talking about something like these creatures with Alphonse...or maybe it was Gonzo?
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
"Oh! That's right! These are tatzlwurms, and they can..."
Durielle says something possibly interesting about them to the rest of the party.
Alphonse Calderon |
Following the odd tracks a ways Alphonse recognizes from his studies and tries to place his finger on it. when Durielle says their name out loud he relizes she is right and these tracks are from Tatzlwurms. "Ah your right Durielle these are tracks from them they can be curious creatures due to.....
ill aid that roll, though it seems we would get the same result either way lol
Knowledge (Arcana):aid another: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
DM Tuyena |
Tatzlwurm's have a poisonous breath attack they can use to weaken their prey, once they have them grappled in their jaws.
In addition they are fierce when Charging into combat as they are able to use their front legs to claw at their target, in addition to their bite.
Tatzlwurm's are highly territorial creatures much like their full dragon cousins, and prefer if possible to sneak up on their prey.

Sugua Bran't |
" Sounds like ambush creatures. In that case Seems like Pointy Sticks will need to be used. Stick close I guess we go in and route the fake-dragons. Those who can see in the dark a little closer to the front with me.... Might want to use those spells early too so we dont waste time during. "
Sugua starts stretch his arm while he strikes a torch and lights his blade ready to proceed.
Clousuk Sootscale |
Clousuk proves to be rather taken with his new blade, swinging it around and jabbing it at the air as the party travels. Any sentimental value he had possessed for his old sword had evidently vanished the moment it was replaced; he had been all too eager to exchange it for a pittance of gold pieces. Perhaps if that halfling troubadour had held this sword, he would not have met such a grisly fate.
With the discovery of tatzlwyrm tracks, Clousuk becomes more himself after days of uncharacteristic silence. The bear traps had not been worthy opponents, but the dragon-like opponents had been. They were after all, scalykind like himself. Of course, they were rather stupid by comparison.
"Clousuk says Clousuk, stab the scaly worms!" he announces with an overdramatic flourish.
Khargol Uzgurn |
Khargol simply gives a nod of agreement, switching his cold iron longsword for his longspear and taking a position at the front of the group near to Sugua, his orcish eyes not hindered by the cave's darkness in the least.
"Ready when you all are."
Vladimir Ducheski |
How much room is at the cave entrance?
Vladimir studies the entrance for a moment before deciding between his blade or his longspear.
"Durielle, as we are once again heading into darkness, would you mind casting that spell again? Perhaps on my buckler this time?"
DM Tuyena |
I'm waiting on you all, but I get the feeling you're waiting on me.
Entering into the cave you find that it's fairly small, inside however you find five Tatzlwyrms and multiple clutches of eggs.
The miniature Dragons seem to have heard the party coming. Many of them hiss and bare their teeth, as small wafts of green vapors seep from behind their fangs.
Tatlzwyrms: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Different Tatzlwyrm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Sugua: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Vladimir: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Clousuk is up.

DM Tuyena |
The Tatzlwyrm in the back had a much higher crest of spines than the rest, it hisses to the others.
"Svent wer munthreki yth zklaen troth wer hrrac"
"Kill the scaleless we must protect the nest."
It then opens its mouth and shoots a beam of Fire at Clousuk.
Ray: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 3) = 15
It misses Clousuk however.
Khargol and Gonzo are up.

Durielle Omenstar |
Hearing the tatzlwyrm speak, Durielle can't help but feel regret the creatures must be destroyed. If they can speak, one could hope to reason with them. Seeing her companions ready to attack, she knows there is little chance she will be able to dissuade their aggressive intentions now.
She murmurs words acknowledging her unnamed patron's(s') wisdom in sending her to this place and feels his/her/their protection wash over her.
Durielle casts shield of faith. Of course I realize that this means she will not have this bonus if any of the tatzlwyrms attack her prior to her turn, but assuming she isn't knocked unconscious or killed before then, this is her action.
Range touch; Target creature touched
Duration 1 min./level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
This spell creates a shimmering, magical field around the target that averts and deflects attacks. The spell grants the subject a +2 deflection bonus to AC, with an additional +1 to the bonus for every six levels you have (maximum +5 deflection bonus at 18th level).
-------------------------------------------------------------------- ------

DM Tuyena |
If only you had remembered to Judge, I could have given you the fireworks display.
Also, you do three more damage. Two-handing gives str 1.5x.
Khargol viciously stabs the first Tatzlwyrm and though it remains standing the amount of blood it is rapidly losing lets you know it will soon fall unconscious.
Khargol Uzgurn |
I honestly really thought about using Judgement but I didn't know if it would be a good idea to blast that out on the first fight of the day. If we come across something later that would've been a better use of it, I wouldn't have had it. Suppose I'd better just stop second-guessing myself and use the thing, but I've always been nervous about when the right time to use a one-off ability is. It'll be a lot less difficult a decision once we level again and I can use it twice per day.
DM Tuyena |
Ok Gonzo will delay for now.
The Tatzlwyrms spring into action charging down their foes.
Khargol gets an AoO on either the one charging Vladimir or Sugua.
Bite Khargol: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Claw Vladimir: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Khargol takes 6. Sugua takes 14. Vladimir takes 13 and is grappled. The rest of the party may act.
Clousuk Sootscale |
"Clousuk ti thric ternock wux pothoc vilklviri!" Clousuk rebukes as he dodges the fire beam, looking rather offended.
When Vladimir is grabbed by one of the tatzlwyrms, the kobold rolls his eyes and utters a chant. "Clousuk says Clousuk, be free Fancy Sword Scaleless! Be free!"
Immediate Action: Cast liberating command on Vladimir, granting him an immediate Escape Artist check with a +6 bonus.
Continuing his rallying battle chants, as annoying as they are effective, Clousuk steps up beside Vladimir, his new sword in hand.
Mwk Cold Iron Rapier: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 + 1 = 1

Sugua Bran't |
Sugua laughs as he raises his arm to block the bite and the fangs dig deep. " It seems this little lizard is hungry! Well try this on for size! "
Sugua backhands the Talzwyrm drops his torch and grips his flaming blade in two hands. His tusks show and he aims for right between the eyes swinging straight down.

Vladimir Ducheski |
Liberating Command Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 6 = 26
I will work on the assumption that a 26 is sufficient to escape
"Thank you, Clousuk. Nasty teeth on these bastards." Vladimir says as he slashes at the dragon with his dueling sword.
Dueling Sword: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 = 18 (inspire)
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5 (inspire)
Alphonse Calderon |
Seeing the creatures spring into action Alphonse cringes as they dig their claws into his companions, but prepares his magics and lashes out at the creatures. His eyes glow intensifies as he gathers the force within to project his inborn magics and muttering the incantation to focus his magics "Unerring judgement strike my foes and bring them to their knees!" a pair of missiles made of pure force then fly forth and strike
casting these missiles on the worm Sugua hit if its still standing (assuming the crit actually hit of course), if its not then pick one of the others in melee with the party
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
Gonzo the Magnificent |
Seemingly in deep thought, Gonzo finally shakes it off and begins his casting.
"Ah finally a chance to try out my new spell. I've been studying this one for months now, but I think I can finally pull it off; let's see..." He continues his arcanic chant and thrusts his hands upwards as a stream of fire is launched up and over his allies, landing on top of the tatzlwyrm in front of Clousuk, bouncing from that wyrm to the one behind it, igniting their scaly flesh.
Burning Arc (CL 5): 5d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 2, 2) = 172d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Reflex half; DC 17, then 15
I guess my initiative is with Alphonse now.
Donovan of Restov |
"Victorious strikes to bring down our foes! Our weapons cannot be so easily stayed!"
Somewhere, waaay in the depths of the order, Donovan gets his usual bless spell cast.
