Sugua looks to Khargol after his statement, " Well they have and did come here with no horses, they were wearing lighter armor and had 8 men. Even weak men, they had enough manpower to carry the loads comfortably. Look at me, I don't use a horse and I seem fine when I sleep in my armor unlike you all. Whats to say they are any different. I'm going to say this however, don't underestimate a man that controls this many people under him with fear and might alone! It takes little time to travel if you arent seeking to stay there for long. "

"I feel the Master Trader's advice is actually something we should consider," Durielle interjects.

"As it stands, we do need to take better stock of our surroundings to be sure, but just as assuredly, we need to make safe our position here at the trading post. What good does it do to discover another party a day's ride from here if we are not prepared to fend them off when they attack? Unless things fall out as well as they did today, we would leave ourselves and these fine folk in a very weak position if those scouting are overwhelmed."

Sugua points to himself " 'I' don't have a horse and I do fine, that doesnt include the Orc's I've seen who move just as fast as a Horse. Did we not come from Restov? The entire time I walked on these two feet. They might have made camp but furs and drygoods are no reason to need a whole other staging area.. You must have ever been around bandits! " He laughs heartily.

" That's an easy answer, because when things are trying to kill you OTHER than man, you tend to want to e able to outpace them. If your not strong enough to fight, that is. Yes if you're mounted you'll want to make a handle animal check DC15, which if it fails, make a ride check DC5.

As for the perception check you made it just fine even with your penalty to surprise rounds, the bear isn't much interested in being subtle.

Thats alot of move actions (Get off Horse, Draw Weapon, Draw Sheild, Equip Shield) also there is a map with your position you might want to move it to where exactly you want to be. You don't have a +1 Bab so not being battle ready is gunna bone you... this is another reason why Sugua doesnt have a horse.

Since you don't have a BAB yet the dismount would be your move action and the weapon draw your standard.

And as Sugua said to draw your shield would be another move action and another standard to equip it. Which would be your whole next turn if you want to go that route.

Handle Animal can be used untrained for pushing or handling a domesticated animal. I would assume a riding horse would be a domesticated animal.

You are slightly incorrect, handle animal can not be used on a domesticated animal, a charisma check however can be.

But also I realized that handling the animal is a move action. So Thessk can handle his animal and then dismount but that would be his turn. In the same vein Durielle could handle her horse and then draw her bow. Etc.

Despite Whisper's jostling, Durielle manages to draw her bow and retrieve an arrow.

And based on DM Tuyena's latest post, I believe that's her turn for the round.

I'll wait for 7:30 and then just have him ready an action to attack it if he has yet to act.

Ok Morgrym just readies an attack against the bear

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

---------------------------------

Random Charge: 1d3 ⇒ 3

The bear charges Angor.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Grab: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

---------------------------------

Confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Angor takes 16 Damage, and falls unconscious so the bear's grapple automatically succeeds.

Angor's limp body hangs from the bear's mouth.

The rest of the party is now free to act, in additon, those who have already acted (Morgrym, Durielle, Tomas, and Thessk may also act - Their actions will merely resolve after the others have gone.)

The battle over in a flash once again Morgrym remarks "well Oleg was right about the wild life around here being hostile, we should be keeping a better eye out for such beasts, though i wonder if this pelt would be worth anything, bears are often used for rugs and the like. anyone know the going rate for a bear?" Ah well, the fun's over it seems and we've got us a new pelt and some choice bits for bear soup and jerky. Delicious HAHA! "

Sugua turns to the party, mainly Khargol and gestures to the bear over his back, " THAT was just a bear, I think you mentioned one earlier? Angor here barely stood a chance against one wild animal, you think we are ready to take out a bandit camp that had to deal with things like THIS on the regular? Now you get what I meant by things being different OUT HERE! If those ones from earlier ran into this there would be no surprise if they all died. I know where they came from, its far. This, however is telling.. unless you can show me you can deal with threat of that caliber well.. Raiding a bandit camp isnt in the immediate future. " Soon after Sugua goes over to the Angor who is being treated and grabs him by the arm to lift him back on his feat and pat him heavily on the back, " AHAHA! So Angor , tell me how was the trip from the ground again?! Was the cuddly bear hug to much? "

"RAAAAAH!" the Skald roars as he comes back to consciousness. He bolts up from the ground, rolls forward, and gets to his feet ready to swing. For a moment all he saw was red and was ready to attack the first thing that came into sight. Unfortunately that happens to be Sugua. Fortunately he stops the swing of his axe before it actually hits the other half-orc whose annoyingly confident smile never cracks. As he comes down from the high of a near death experience he pieces together what happened. His horse bolted. He fell. The bear attacked. Excruciating pain as it bite into him and punctured a lung. The combination of crushing pressure and wounded lung meant the air left him quickly and consciousness soon followed. He must have done something to piss off Gorum cause today was a really bad day.

Without a word he stalks off to find his horse. He then ties a rope from the horse to the bear and urges it to pull the bear all the way back to the fort. The bear tried to eat him. Now he was going to eat it. Partly out of spite but mostly because it was bad juju to let it go to waste.
