Its ok, no worries there. Currently flurry of F5ing for ACG to show ready to buy. Not sure when it will unlock.
GM Angel |
GM angel will be gone for 24 hours to digest his new class guide.
:P
Just kidding.

OMG, so much good stuff.
Sorry if I seem a bit fanboy like, but I have been waiting for the arcanist, and honestly, I am not disappointed in the slightest. I am very much happy with how it is set up, and I love the archetypes.
And dear God Choon, what would I have to do to get you to let me remake Silas as an arcanist.
GM Angel |
Oh boy oh oy oh boy. Mine just finished downloading! :D
Inorite?
GM Angel |
Oh my god I have to sleep, but its so good!
Currently, I am loving: Eldritch Font, Occultist, white mage. I have to say, that I might find the Font rather interesting, with a whole bunch of exploit abilities. Have to dump some feats into exploits though.
Anton Marakov |
I like new toys. (Fun fact - this is the first time I've ever played a wizard.)
Speaking of scrolls, I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I can make them. I might need reminding on account of... well... first-time wizard.
cynarion |
Absolutely. Scrolls of first-level spells are awesome, especially things like mage armor that you will most of the time be casting out of combat anyway, or utility spells like comprehend languages. At 12.5gp each to make, they're dirt cheap.
When we have a wizard in the party we often create an extra half-share of treasure and give it to the wizard because it's just so damn useful to have a magical swiss army knife. Plus if the wizard takes Craft Wondrous Item we all benefit from half-price items, so we get paid back anyway. : )
Anton Marakov |
The 3rd-level cleric of Desna in my game just took scribe scroll. The player was saying it didn't seem worth it, until I pointed out that a) 1st-level scrolls cost 12.5gp each to scribe, and he can do four in a full day; b) clerics have access to their entire spell list; c) Desna's domain spells are amazing, and d) there's a dhampir in the party who can't benefit from the channels and spontaneous cure spells, but could really use some scrolls of inflict light wounds.
Then his eyes lit up and he took it.
But yeah, I could see Anton as the 'magical Swiss army knife'. If he didn't collapse under the weight of all the paper. :P
Cander Vitritch |
Glad the ACG is so good! I might actually buy it now... I was kind of skeptical when the Playtest became available.
Also RE: Job - I'm feeling you there, Angel. Mine is yanking me around every-which-way at the moment. If it weren't for the benefits and opportunities for advancement I'd be out of here in no time flat.
cynarion |
Well, what do you know, inflict spells don't have the [evil] descriptor. You learn something new every day. : )
But yeah, I could see Anton as the 'magical Swiss army knife'. If he didn't collapse under the weight of all the paper. :P
KAYTA: Hurry up Anton, the trolls will be back any minute and we don't want them to find we've stolen their eggs for sale on the black market.
ANTON: I'm coming, woman--why don't you carry some of my stuff if you want me to go faster? Paper is very dense, you know.
KATYA: Because you beat me in an arm wrestle yesterday, remember? Carry your own stuff.
ANTON: ヽ(`Д´)ノ

The ACG is going to be very much an opinion thing, I think. I love that I can finally play a character with rogue-like elements that doesn't have to have sneak attack or bombs. I find the swashbuckler, skald and shaman to be thoroughly underwhelming, but that's mostly because the classes just plain don't appeal to me rather than because I think they are poorly designed or anything like that.
Anton Marakov |
*glances at dumped strength* So Katya was letting the waifish wizard win, was she? :P
(Aside - I could see our characters developing a rather close [symbiotic] friendship. Katya's physically able but emotionally scarred, and Anton's mentally well but physically feeble. It could be a fun thing to play up.)
As for the ACG, I'm just giddy about it. Funnily, the skald and swashbuckler are my two favourite classes. The only one that didn't grab me in the playtest was the hunter, but I haven't read that far yet, so I'm curious to see what new toys they get.
GM Angel |
Am out on delivery this morning. Will probably be closer to noon or one pm before I can move post forward.
Harsk Ironback |
I think the swashbuckler is fun if you like those sorts of characters, like cynarion I am less enthused about the skald or shaman who feel more like archetypes? Looking more at the feats, spells and archetypes for those classes might sway me.
I am actually sort of *meh* about arcanists, but I rarely play arcane casters except for bards. I'm more of a divine caster type myself :)
We will see how Unchained reflects this process but I think the ACG is a good sign post for the evolution of the system. I like that as a slayer I am still good in combat but have skills. Like being able to notice people moving...which I can't do as a fighter...which makes me very angry. ;P
I guess what I am driving at is that even if you are not enthused about the specific class combinations presented it represents a continuation of the fresh thinking that has made me stick with pathfinder these last few years.
Harsk Ironback |
I'm wondering if Angel or anyone else who knows can walk me through how you set the map up. I GM another game and I struggle big time with maps and the set up we have here is AWESOME! So I am hoping to steal it :p
Cuddles |
I agree, Harsk. Even if some seem meh, I'm still thankful that they're trying to push in a relatively innovative direction. It's not cometely new, I know, but they have to work within their system. In my opinion, they're doing a pretty good job of it.
GM Angel |
She basically clipped the map out of the PDF and inserted it into a Google Drive Drawing. Then she uses our forum pictures (either by snip or saving the picture itself) as tokens. The rest is done with tools in the Drawing application itself.
What he said. I'm muddling through as I go, but so far it is fairly easy to manage. May mean that I end up dumping some money on PDF flipmat maps just to have decent maps for places that don't have unique maps.
Once I figured it out with Choon's help, it has been fairly simple to do.
cynarion |
*glances at dumped strength* So Katya was letting the waifish wizard win, was she? :PNot at all! [url=http://youtu.be/oSynJyq2RRo?t=30m33s]Anton just rolled well
. ; )
(Aside - I could see our characters developing a rather close [symbiotic] friendship. Katya's physically able but emotionally scarred, and Anton's mentally well but physically feeble. It could be a fun thing to play up.)
I agree. I can see Anton being a teacher for Katya, whereas Leandric will be an interesting influence as a different sort of scholarly character. Despite being a fighter, Katya will feel more at home with the two casters than the rest of the party, at least to begin with.
I will probably wait until I get my physical copy to read through the ACG properly, but I'm definitely a bigger fan of it than I have been of the Ultimate books. : )
###
I think Cuàn is away now, so we will have to move Leandric for him. Should we send him to the gap between the buildings--one square NE of Anton--and fire his crossbow at the bandit directly south of that spot?
GM Angel |
Ok, back at the office, been out on delivery since about..., 38 seconds after I got in.
I will wait to get home tonight before I advance combat, so that I can do it fresh and not hectic mental pain going on.
And just in case anyone was wondering, yes, the utterance of my ignorance is prevailing over my mental facilities right now. Though I can't say that I exactly had...
Nevermind. My brain just skipped like a cd in a sony walkman.
TL:DR - I think the walking dead got me brains.
GM Angel |
Ok, sorry guys, I have been a bit awol.
Finishing an emergency project. Will have the next gameplay post up in a few minutes.
Anton Marakov |
I'm grateful for the ACG and all its content. I'm considering going without lunch for a couple of weeks to buy my physical copy. Also, I'm getting real sick of waiting for my subscriptions to ship. I wants me tech guide and Iron Gods!
Ahahaha! Yeah, that could have actually happened. Come on, 5% chance of a natural 20...
And yeah, it would be fun to build on that. I can see him being somewhat jealous of Katya's physical capabilities, though, with her being both smart and physically well. He's likely to be jealous of anyone with physical capability (read: everyone with a strength bonus and no constitution penalty), but I can see Katya getting to him the most.
Of course, he'll be happy to teach her, even if she's never able to cast a spell herself. She's curious, and that should be rewarded. =)
I say we move Leandric and do the crossbow thing. Since he prepared shield, he probably cast it on himself while Anton was doing his own prep.
GM Angel |
Pretty much. Unless Cander can't hold his horse together, you guys kinda curb stomped them, so to speak.
I played out the surprise round actions, and it basically leaves one bandit peeing his trousers in Cuddles' arms, two out cold, and the leader guy wounded and not sure that I can get him to ride faster than Cander.
Harsk Ironback |
I have to concede that I have played this particular part of the AP a couple of times (long story) and it always goes differently. This is by far the smoothest a group I have seen handle the bandits. And lets be honest here it was only 2/3 of the group LOL Leandric and I didn't really do much.
GM Angel |
Oh Cander..., vigorous motion on a horse, 2 rounds back to the post...
I'll have to do some rolls in a bit. See if he lived through it.
Harsk Ironback |
Yeah our group is on a very interesting time spread. I find that when I get in to work you guys have put a lot up because the aussies are at night and the day is well in and going for the midwesterners but my 1/2 hours behind them is just enough to have a lot to wake up to. And then one of us is in Europe? Is that right?
Cander Vitritch |

Same here, actually. I was in an optimized Kingmaker once (the party consisted of a Master Summoner, a Musket Master Gunslinger, a Vivisectionist/Beastmorph Alchemist, and a "Captain America" Ranger all at 25 point-buy) and even then this battle lasted a few rounds. The campaign kind of fizzled out after the first book, though, so I only have vague recollections of what comes later.

While you're more than welcome to houserule it in your own game, I was under the impression that RAW Vigorous Motion only was a hindrance to spellcasting and had no bearing on causing damage or hindering stabilize checks. Nonetheless, the bandit lives, so I'm not complaining.
Harsk Ironback |
I would think it is more of creating penalties to stabilize checks more than creating a situation of continued damage in of itself. -2 for unfavorable conditions and all that...
cynarion |
I am running around with the kiddies today but intend for Katya to use Diplomacy on them, ask them what their story is. Who are they, where are they from, what's their story, that kind of thing. See if any of them can be redeemed, that kind of thing. What does everyone else think? And we should also tie up the leader guy.
GM Angel |
Bandit loot sheet is up. For ease, and also my own ability to track things, I will be retaining the editing ability. Everyone post in discussion if you want anything, and I will remove from the communal loot sheet.
cynarion |
Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't posted today (Saturday for me); I spent the day looking after the kids and have spent the evening so far working. Given it's nearly midnight and I have a kids' birthday party to run tomorrow I won't be able to put up anything particularly worthwhile today.
If I wake up early tomorrow (as I usually do) I might get a chance to put something together before the kids wake up.
Apologies for being a bit slow. : )
I have no particular use for any of the loot, except to sell to start on our inevitable journey toward ridiculous levels of ostentatious wealth. ; )
EDIT: and a longbow, I guess--it would make sense to trade up. Can Katya have one of them, please?
Beyond that, Katya will insist on continuing to pay Oleg relevant market rates for her food and board. She doesn't want to get a reputation as a freeloader.
