Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Astraden hustles towards the avian singers, stepping into the muck of the chamber with barely a wince.
Round 1: Movement (move action) and movement (move action). Bull's strength lasts 46 rounds, invisibility lasts 47 rounds, and shield of faith lasts 48 rounds.

Dungeon Kobold |

By the way, I numbered the harpies. Assume the numbers correspond to the order in which your saves are rolled.

Carina Viera |

Uh oh...
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Carina's eyes widen as she recognizes the bird women for who they are. Harpies.
Will Save 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Will Save 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Will Save 3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Will Save 4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Not that it helps her resist their captivating song.
Round 1: Actions
Full-Round Action: Double Move to hug a harpy! (Assuming nobody stops me)
Carina starts stumbling through the muck and reeds to get closer to the harpy songs!
Um... help, please?

Eben MacTeague |

I assume this is a sonic effect and my well-versed bonus applies.
Will save: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 4 = 28
Will save: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12
Will save: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 = 9
Will save: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 4 = 28
Well, not that it matters what bonuses might apply when I roll a f+~$ing 1. Ugh. Well, since I definitely fail the one roll not going to bother with an AP on the other low one.
Eben stumbles into the room, a big beatific smile on his face as he makes his way towards one of the kind, wonderful bird-ladies. "Pretty music..." he says, slack jawed.
Headed to become the adoring fan of Harpy #3. Also captivated by #2, but failed the save harder vs. 3, so why not.

Farrukh Al'Khatel |

4d20 ⇒ (5, 16, 19, 13) = 53
Wooo.
Farrukh lumbers forward with the rest of his buddies. Thankfully he's invisible so they can't coup de grace see him yet.

Cuetzpalli |

will saves: 1d20 ⇒ 41d20 ⇒ 161d20 ⇒ 151d20 ⇒ 181d20 ⇒ 181d20 ⇒ 111d20 ⇒ 141d20 ⇒ 7 Posting from phone, looks like we both failed.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

SM vs Astraden: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26
SM vs Carina: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
SM vs Cuetzpalli: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17
SM vs Spiny: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25
SM vs Eben: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
SM vs Farrukh: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
So the only two he's got a read on is Astraden and Spiny and they both failed two.
Tanith watches in confusion as his friends shamble forward. They were enchanted! It's difficult to make out in the chaos but Astraden seems to be watching two of the hideous bird women closely.
With a growl the big man pushes forward. He rears back and takes a mighty swing at one of the nearer women.
"Let them go!" he roars.
Polaxe (heroism and bull's strength): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 6 = 19
Confirming: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30
Extra Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 6 = 16
I'm on my phone so I can't map very well. If Astraden's enchanted by one of the front two he'll target her.

Dungeon Kobold |

With a mighty swing, Tanith nearly hacks the harpy in two. She barely manages to dodge the worst of it, surviving--though badly injured.
Round 2: Harpies.
Two of the harpies (1 and 2) keep singing. The other two move to surround Tanith, shrieking and clawing viciously. One of them flaps over and kicks off Carina's shoulder for some extra buoyancy, but the even the pain of the sharp talons doesn't startle Carina from her dreamlike trance.
Morningstar/Morningstar/Talon/Talon;Morningstar/Morningstar/Talon/Talon: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 181d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + (7) + 1 = 17
Note that everyone is still affected--harpies #1 and #2 have the whole lot between them.
You (meaning Tanith) are up!

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith grunts as he's battered and bloodied by the harpy's filthy claws. His need to protect his friends allows the big man to push the pain aside and he steps back to press his attack.
"Kord grant me strength!"
Blessing of Strength
Polaxe (heroism, bull's strength, blessing): 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 33

Wow.
Confirming: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 21
Extra Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 6 = 20

Extra Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 6 = 22

Astraden Limhaare |

As half the music fades, Astraden focuses her attention on the celestial melody of one of the remaining performers. She seems undaunted by Tanith's yells and the subsequent splattering gore.
Round 2: No actions. Bull's strength lasts 45 rounds, invisibility lasts 46 rounds, and shield of faith lasts 47 rounds.

Carina Viera |

Carina barely even notices the spray of blood and feathers covering her--the music... the sweet, sweet music... takes her mind off of everything.
After all, it's not like she came here for a reason... right?
Right?

Dungeon Kobold |

Tanith bisects one, then nearly repeats the process on the other. Amazingly, she survives.
Round 3: Harpies.
The harpies seem to realize their danger now, for they all stop singing and unleash loud shrieks instead. The flock closes in. There's only one way out for them, and it's through Tanith.
Morningstar/Morningstar/Talon/Talon;Morningstar/Morningstar/Talon/Talon;Morningstar/Morningstar/Talon/Talon: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 191d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 201d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Damage: 5d6 + 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 3, 2) + (2, 8, 5) + 3 = 35
The songs will wear off next round, so it's still just Tanith for the next six seconds but...you are up!

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith actually stepped back to attack with his reach weapon. They don't really have a way to all attack him.

Dungeon Kobold |

He couldn't do that and still reach the one that was controlling Astraden, and you didn't move his figure. Sorry, that's gonna stand.
I was letting him attack closer-up because they were elevated (which is also why Eben's soft cover didn't cause him to miss on the crit confirm).

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Badly bloodied and barely maintaining his grip on his weapon, Tanith asks the Brawler for just a bit more strength to endure.
Fervor: CMW (spending an AP to save the spell): 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 6) + 4 = 17
Is it clear the effect is wearing off? Additional AP spending will depend on that knowledge.

Dungeon Kobold |

Tanith notices that the fog is beginning to clear from his friends' eyes as the music stops.
By the way, sorry if the previous comment came off as "can't access the map? Screw you!" I know you weren't able to move your figure. I wrote that part more to explain the source of my confusion, but it accidentally got lumped in with the "reasons I'm not retconning".
Feel free to metagame with AP expenditures, though. Those are a pretty OOC affair. :P

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

It's cool. It was a lot to retcon. I was just hoping for a bone. =P
In an uncharacteristic move for the big Kordite, Tanith takes a mighty swing but with a mind for defense, using the haft of his weapon to keep the harpies at bay.
Polaxe (heroism, bull's strength, fighting defensive): 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 6 = 25
Mighty AC 20 for this round! Hitting the wounded one.
He steps back afterward, hoping to divert the monsters from his recovering friends.
Spending an AP for Diehard. I reserve the right to unDiehard if/when it's triggered!

Dungeon Kobold |

Cuetzpalli and Astraden are now free of the enchantment!

Dungeon Kobold |

The harpy gives a hellish cry as the blade cuts through her like butter. Cuetzpalli and Astraden find the magic gripping their minds suddenly rip away, leaving them free-willed once again.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Ah. I didn't know they were going to be freed this round. Is it alright if I nix that AP usage?

Dungeon Kobold |

Go ahead. Yeah, it's just my interpretation. Probably not the "official" one.

Astraden Limhaare |

As Tanith cleaves through a second diva, Astraden snaps out of her spell. She sheathes her dagger and, stepping back, accuses one of the remaining adversaries. "You will not escape. Lock your wings and fall to the ground."
Command is DC 14 (on #2, the one I just moved out from under I think). If they don't take AOOs for sheathing her dagger she'll cast defensively.
Round 3: Five-foot step (no action), sheathe weapon (move action), and cast spell (standard action). Bull's strength lasts 44 rounds, invisibility lasts 45 rounds, shield of faith lasts 46 rounds, and command lasts 1 round.

Dungeon Kobold |

AoOs: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 111d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The harpy falls to the ground. Finding himself in full control once more, Cuetzpalli hefts his greataxe and swings at the monster.
1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26
Damage: 1d12 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
She is badly injured, but not slain.
Also, moving the Mind Control Brigade around a bit as they struggle to reach #2.

Dungeon Kobold |

There's currently no place to put the prone harpy. We're gonna just treat Eben like a noncombatant for the time being.
Round 4: Harpies.
Now fighting for their lives, the last two focus on Astraden.
M/M/T/T;M/M/T/T: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 4 = 61d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 4 = 181d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 4 = 51d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 61d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 211d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 1 + (3) = 12
Whiffwhiffwhiffhitwhiff you guys are up.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith breathes easier with his friends rejoining the fight. The big man grimaces as the extent of his injuries catch up with him but he presses the attack.
Polaxe (heroism, bull's strength): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 6 = 21
"How are you feeling Red?"

Dungeon Kobold |

The harpy on the ground gives a pained screech, but somehow manages to avoid getting any of her vital organs hit.

Astraden Limhaare |

Astraden draws her rapier and stabs for her target's feathery flesh.
Rapier (action point): 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + (2) = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Round 4: Draw weapon (move action) and attack (standard action). Bull's strength lasts 43 rounds, invisibility lasts 44 rounds, and shield of faith lasts 45 rounds.

Dungeon Kobold |

Astraden stabs the harpy through the throat, ending her frantic struggles and silencing her cries.

Eben MacTeague |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |

Eben noncombats.

Dungeon Kobold |

And everyone is free of the magics.
Spiny shakes his head, free of the magics at last, and leaps over to lash out at the cause of his confusion.
Narrow Frame: It's useful for Medium people, too.

Cuetzpalli steps over to finish the job.
Greataxe: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Damage: 1d12 ⇒ 7 doesn't matter because she only had eight hit points left.
He finishes the job.
End combat.

Dungeon Kobold |

Incidentally, Farrukh's still invisible. Had Tanith lost, Farrukh would have just snapped out of the song's effect a few rounds later and found everyone dead. ;P

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Oh good. =(
Tanith sags under the weight of his injuries but rushes over to check on the others.
He grabs Carina and looks her in the eyes. "Say something Red."
"And where's Farrukh?"

Eben MacTeague |

Eben blinks and slowly comes to, awareness of the dead harpy lying on top of him slowly filtering in. He glances up at her bloodied, filthy form and gives a sharp 'YAWP'-ing sound, pushing the corpse off. He kneels there, panting for a moment or two, before looking around. "Was... anyone else having fantasies involving raw chicken carcasses?"

Astraden Limhaare |

"Whew." Astraden shakes her head, still trying to clear the haunting music. "Tanith, let me see those gashes."
Wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Then on Astraden: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
5 charges.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

The hulking Kordite laughs and claps Eben on the shoulder splattering him with an equal measure of his own blood and harpy gore. "No raw chicken I'm afraid. Just a lot of loud ugly women!"
After Astraden brings her wand to bear, Tanith stands up straight again.
"Thanks Astraden. Let me know if that wand starts wearing thin. I've got a couple."
There's the beefy one in the party fun (CL 5) and Tanith's got a mostly full one on him.

Astraden Limhaare |

"No problemo. I think this old thing will burn out after the next fight, so I'll want one of them then." She looks down at her now guano-stained boots and wrinkles her nose. "Alright, let's get going. Just do a quick check to make sure there's no treasure."
Guided Perception: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 = 23
Then guidance on Farrukh.

Dungeon Kobold |

Astraden finds a small chest buried in a particularly muddy part of the room. It's messy, but she's able to dig it up. Within, she finds a pile of coins, three pieces of quartz, a dirt-encrusted silver circlet, and a pair of boots made out of exotic red scaly leather.
171 cp, 320 sp, 195 gp. The boots and circlet radiate magic.

Astraden Limhaare |

We'll appraise them later I think. Got buffs to wring use out of still.
Keep going down this passage?

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Tanith retrieves a wand and tops himself off.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Sounds good!

Cuetzpalli |

Continuing is fine with me.

Carina Viera |

Carina blinks rapidly as the music fades. "Wha--Tanith? What happened? I remember the harpies singing and--"
The stench of harpy gore hits her nose, making her look around. "Oh. Well, that explains it." Her pulse quickens. "Um... did anyone else get entranced by them?"

Cuetzpalli |

Cuetzpalli sheepishly raises his hand, and points at Spiny. "Not for the whole thing, but their song was so..." he just shrugs.

Rynjin |

Incidentally, Farrukh's still invisible. Had Tanith lost, Farrukh would have just snapped out of the song's effect a few rounds later and found everyone dead. ;P
I only failed #1 so as soon as it died I would have been good.

Carina Viera |

Carina is somewhat relieved by the fact that she wasn't alone in being entranced. "I know..."

Eben MacTeague |

Eben, having freshly cast prestidigitation, flicks a finger down a streak of harpy gore pasted across his tunic, making the nasty, stinking stain evaporate. "I really don't even want to talk about it," he mutters.

Astraden Limhaare |

"Ugh, yeah. Last thing I remember, Farrukh was talking about raspy breathing, and then suddenly I'm in a strange room and Tanith's covered in blood and there's bird women everywhere."
Astraden waits for the warrior cohort to enter the next passage and then files in after Cuetzpalli.
Made a marching order if we want to use it.

Dungeon Kobold |

Dungeon Kobold wrote:Incidentally, Farrukh's still invisible. Had Tanith lost, Farrukh would have just snapped out of the song's effect a few rounds later and found everyone dead. ;PI only failed #1 so as soon as it died I would have been good.
Hence my saying "had Tanith lost". #1 was the second or third to die. :P
Perceptions: 7d20 ⇒ (5, 14, 3, 12, 14, 4, 5) = 57
As they walk through the sloping passage, everyone but Cuetzpalli, Spiny, Tanith and Eben can hear movement down below--as well as a loud, high-pitched whine.
This room has more than ten sleeping pallets of swamp grass and mud. Mangrove roots twine all over the walls but the floors are otherwise clear.
Six lizardfolk stand at the ready, morningstars drawn and shields discarded. In addition, this room is particularly filled with mosquitoes. The mosquitoes seem to be ignoring the lizardfolk--perhaps they aren't able to puncture through the thick scales.
Inits: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Round 1: NPCs.
The lizardfolk hold back (delay), but the mosquitoes buzz ahead to sink their proboscises into these newcomers. They surround Spiny, Farrukh, Tanith and Cuetzpalli in an almost overwhelming hum.
Farrukh finds that while a fair few mosquitoes do bump into him, and a couple even take a nibble or two, they're largely ignorant to his presence.
Swarm Damage on Spiny: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
Swarm Damage on Tanith: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Swarm Damage on Cuetzpalli: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
Also, the three of you must make two Fortitude saves. The first is versus Distraction (DC 13), the second versus disease (and you don't need to know the DC for now).
You are up! Spiny, Tanith and Cuetzpalli take Spiny: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Tanith: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Cuetz: 1d6 ⇒ 4 bleed damage.
The swarm grants anything beyond 50% concealment against ranged attacks, or 20% if the shooter is partway through the swarm.

Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |

Wow. These are some vicious mosquitoes.
vs Distraction: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 = 15
vs Disease: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 = 20
Tanith retreats while swatting and cursing. "Damned bugs!"
Backing up and retrieving a wand. Making room for Carina to light the swarm up.
