I suggest building them near (not quite right on) the beach rather than having to port them through a day and a half of thick jungle.
Remember we may have possible attacks by the shark-people the Khaan warned us of in the beginning if we're too close to the actual shoreline during construction. And I'm fully expecting they'll attack from the water when we're actually trying to get out, too, but hey. :P

Emerion "Nim" Nimlaidas |

I am good with that. We should also keep what we need for the time being until five days before we ship out. We can start building then rather then right away, that should fit in the time frame and give us a little leeway time wise as well to have both boats in the water and ready.

Devram Coates |

Wouldn't canoes or longboats be more stable and easier to crew? I'm thinking large versions of those Hawaiian canoes with outriggers. I just see giant rafts as a huge sitting duck in the water (no pun intended). Maybe Illante's knowledge can help us craft something better?

DM Jelani |

With Iliante, you could make some dugout canoes and put outriggers on them, sure. You have plenty of labor, and plenty of tall mature trees to use. They would definitely be faster and more maneuverable than basic rafts. However they'd probably take twice as long to make.

Iliante |

we've time. Plus the dugout canoes and outriggers could be carried through the jungle, so we can build them at the mountain.

Derailing quickly, and sorry for any crosspost that occurs if you're in multiple games with me:
I'm playing in a PFS PBP gameday game where we lost our GM, and one of our players stepped up to GM, but now we're short a player. If you play PFS and have a character in tier that you think would fit (level 6-7, or a 5 could squeak in), feel free to check us out. Scenario is #3-25, Storming the Diamond Gate.
I'm playing the cleric.

I just found out my level 4 is actually level 6! I was doing XP wrong. So now I need to sit out two levels of Emerald Spire. You still need another player?

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Dang, that is a bit of a leap. :P And sorry, I think we just filled it with a guy who's replaying it for no credit but he's already started posting in gameplay thread. :( Enjoy your leveling-up, anyway?
Nim: Pathfinder Society is organized play for Pathfinder, with a whole host of attendant rules regarding XP, credit, legal resources to build a character with, and loot distribution. /nutshell

Penance, Servant of Abadar |

Well that's a useless spell then.
...because it didn't let you do 7d6 points of automatic, guaranteed damage with no attack roll and no saving throw the way you thought it did? When you aimed something that targeted a creature's highest save, even knowing what those saves were in advance?
Hm. Guess most of the spells in the game are useless, then...
We all mess up on minutiae of the rules sometimes, yo. But don't blame your tools if you didn't use them in the best fashion.

Emerion "Nim" Nimlaidas |

I wanted a spell that would hit something big easy, picked it so it would be useful for the dragon. Which has plenty of defenses that cripple or reduce spells. That spell would not be useful against groups due to the save, reduced damage is not worth a auto hit to me, more so with that reduction set up. A fireball which is lower level and does at least half damage to a single target as well as a group is better then that spell.
So yes to me it is a useless spell in this case and most. It's my opinion, you don't have to agree with it. But I would ask that you respect it as I would yours.
It's my spell and I can blame it if I want to, blame it if I want to, blame it if I want to. (Yes I stole that from a song, but at least not word for word)

Penance, Servant of Abadar |

And the spell actually should be very useful against an actual dragon with a low reflex save, because, as you point out, dragons have elemental resistances and spell resistances. It's great for the thing you originally wanted to use it on, that you actually picked it to use against-- a true dragon, or something closer to a dragon than this guy.
That makes it a great spell, in the right circumstance, as long as you understand that it's still going to allow a reflex save, and as long as you don't target someone who has a great reflex save.
It's like a fighter swinging a sword at a skeleton and then saying his sword is useless. No, it's not, it's just not being deployed against the foe that it will work against.
Look, I'm not trying to rag on you here. I'm saying that given that you have a strong pattern of interpreting spells and your wizarding abilities in a different fashion than the rules and the GM seem to support (web, invisibility, how many scrolls per day you can scribe, and now conjure deadfall, off the top of my head), maybe you should just be a little more careful in reading those spells and those abilities and be open to realizing that you can probably play more effectively, and then not have to feel like you've taken 'useless' abilities. You made a GOOD choice in taking Deadfall for the foe you originally wanted to use it on. It's just not a magic bullet for every big-sized foe.
Whatever, though. As you said, it's your opinion. And the game's in its last stages so it really doesn't matter one way or another.

DM Jelani |

I don't want to get into the middle of a disagreement, but I see the deadfall spell as useful against things with elemental resistance, or groups of weak enemies.
Against a medium sized opponent (like some of the other half-dragons the party has faced) you could do 3d6 with no save at level 7. Or an average of 11.5. About the same as a fireball if they save (average of 12.25). If said opponent has fire resistance, deadfall is clearly better. It'd also be great for taking out like 30 kobolds at once or whatever.

Go team!! Good work everyone. :)
Level up stuff:
Mercy: Poisoned
Skill points: freebies into craft carpentry, profession soldier-- other skills into perception, kn: religion, ride, and intimidate
Feat: diehard
Stat boost: Wisdom
Favored class bonus: 2 hit points
Will get my full level 9 sheet up in a bit.

Telemakos Ogeo Krostumolis |

level 9 is a very good level.
I have to say Jelani, even if we're closing this in a hurry, the fights you throw at us keep on being quite fun!
Level 9 stuff
-Increase BaB, saves, hp, and so on...
-skills: freebies in Profession e Animal Handling, 6 skill points: +1 spellcraft, +1 Knowledge (arcana) +2 Knowledge (nature), +2 Knowledge (planes)
-feat: I was gonna go with improved familiar, but since this game is ending, let's stay boring and practical and get Lightining Reflexes.
-spells known: fly for sure, then greater invisibility. Also swapping out Create Pit for Cat's Grace
Arasmes in a while

Devram Coates |

Ok, Devram will forgo the Aldori gem of Steel net to get Evasion and keep his survivability up.
Level 9
Levels: Fighter6 and Monk2
BAB: +2
Saves: +2 to all
HP: +9 (46 total)
Skills: Craft (Carpentry), Profession (Architect), Sense Motive, Intimidate, Knowledge (Enigneering), Perception
Class Abilities:

Crane Wing (normal) - +4 to AC vs a single attack 1/round; completely block an attack if using Total Defense

GM: Can you rule on the effect of Crane Riposte? Do I only get the AOO when using Crane Wing in Total Defense (i.e. completely deflect an attack) or would I get it if the +4 to AC makes the hit miss?

Iliante |

9th level? When did we hit 8th? Need to work on it. Sorry for the delay.
Any hope to have the time and resources to repair/upgrade his rifle?

Telemakos Ogeo Krostumolis |

If I got the Large Evolution for Arasmes, his sword would remain Medium.
now, questions:
- do you get a penalty for fighting with a smaller weapon?
- would he be able to use it one-handed?
- would the hobgoblins be able to forge a Large greasword for me, in exchange for a Masterwork medium greatsword?
- would Arcane Strike apply to his natural attacks?

Iliante |

two levels of Gunslinger to 3rd
+1 Con at 8th
+2 BAB
+1 saves
+2 Initiative
+1 dodge AC
Shinjuko’s azure silk haori with Yamakawa mon on left beast; cloak of resistance +1 [1 lbs.]
Point Blank Master (revolver)
Perception 2, Swim 2, Profession (explorer) 4, Ride 4

-Yes-Yes, but probably not in time.
-Yes.

Emerion "Nim" Nimlaidas |

Halfway through my level up process. My 8th level school power should be nice for everyone. As long as you stay with in 30 ft. of me and take less then 9 rounds that is. xP
@DM
Can I swap out a spell or two? Or stuck with what I have learned.

DM Jelani |

Okay folks, this is dragging on waaay longer than I intended it to. I'm putting a definite end date on this game. If you guys want to bust out some posts so we can finish the game by then, great. If not, oh well. This game will be officially ending on Sunday January 11th, 2015 at around 01:00 AM EST. I know it's the holidays, but I really hope we can finish this out. It would be a shame not to.

Emerion "Nim" Nimlaidas |

On the fence about a few spells. Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome. Here are the ones I am thinking about.
4th level or lower- Greater Invisibility, Gloomblind Bolts, Lightning Bolt
5th level- Hold Monster, Icy Prison, Summon Infernal Host

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Greater Invis is a great buff with many applications. Lightning bolt is a great thing to have if we're going into a big group fight.
Hold Monster is often a 'save or die,' I've used it to end combats here and there to great effect, but if we're going into mass combat the ability to put more monsters out there might be great.
/my two cents

Emerion "Nim" Nimlaidas |

I guess I will choose Greater Invisibility, Lightning Bolt, Icy Prison, and Summon Infernal Host.
Concerning the 7 scrolls I think I will choose Summoning Infernal Host x2, Icy Prison, Fireball x2, Greater Invisibility, and Boneshatter.
Hope I am not stepping on Telemakos toes with the summoning but those devils look good against our enemies. ;)

DM Jelani |

If you want to reconsider the wisdom of doing what you told Arasmes not to do a moment before, I will allow you to change that action, Penance.
Consider this, he's seen that his breath is ineffective against you guys. So he will have to come down, or be stuck making only single flyby attacks. Let him come to you. And if anyone has dispel magic, targeting his shield spell will make him 20% easier to hit.

dien RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16 |

Eh. I don't know that Penance really would reconsider it. He was telling Arasmes not to go solo a hundred feet out where nobody else could help; this is not quite the same situation...? And Penance is arguably a lot more durable than Arasmes, though 88 damage will still kill him outright, it's true.
I mean, I get what you're saying. To me, it was a gamble worth taking, and I was fully aware when I did it that it means Penance is going to take a full attack on his next turn. But a dragon can also fly down and stay just out of reach and full attack any one of us with his superior reach.
I'm not saying I want my character to die, but I took a risk knowing that I was taking a risk, and I never am a big fan of retconning decisions I've made after the dice have been rolled.
Would still like to know how he gets an AOO on me, though. :P
I suppose I'll go ahead and take the retcon. If it were just an issue of my character's death, I probably would not-- I have no problems with my characters dying-- but it does substantially reduce everyone else's odds of survival, so.... *shrug* *goes to edit post*

Penance, Servant of Abadar |

So, based on this post, the agent who first gave us the assignment actually kept the idol. I can't find any reference to us having it present with us during exploration-- any mention of it has always been in the context of a drawing that we've shown to others, a drawing Shinjuko made.
If we were supposed to actually have the idol with us to access the island, that detail might have gotten lost in the shuffle, heh.
If it IS inarguably with us, and we need someone to be holding on to it, Penance can. *shrugs* It's gold, so I assume it's heavy, and he's got the highest STR in the party. If one of the more studious types like Nim wants to have it, that's fine with me too.

Telemakos Ogeo Krostumolis |

I am pretty pissed at Penance. I was about to do something awesome, and the guy smites 3 times. Umpf.
:D
EDIT: Jelani, was Lorry your own unique creation or did he have a Lovecraftian template I don't know about?

Lol, well, look at it this way, I couldn't have smited 3 times without your various buffs. :)
