Liberty's Edge

Ok, with static movement rates, this could go on forever. So I'm actually going to implement Pathfinder's chase rules to tidy it all up and inject some excitement!

Basically, there are 10 obstacles between the werewolf and his objective - a sewer grate, beyond which is a maze of tunnels and escape. If he reaches there, he escapes.

The way this works is that in initiative order, you will attempt to bypass the obstacles and get ahead of the werewolf. At any time you get ahead of it you can attempt to engage it in combat (or take by other action you like to resolve the situation). Please read the rules in the link above, it'll make things much easier.

The base movement rate for this chase is 40ft. If you have a base movement higher than that, you get a +2 bonus on the skill check to bypass the obstacles. If you have a movement lower than 40ft, you get a -2 penalty. Special movement such as flight provides a +5 bonus on the obstacles.

Bypassing an obstacle is a standard action and you can choose which obstacle you attempt in a given turn. Moving to the next obstacle is a move action. The exception to this is accelerated movement where you can move up to three obstacles in one turn. However, in order to do this you must successfully bypass both obstacles in a given square. If you fail any obstacle by 5 or less you only move forward one square. If you fail by 5 or more, you don't move at all that round.

The chase route we will use is the example one on the site. Also found here -> Chase Route

Let's assume that Sebastian slowed the werewolf down enough that you all caught up together but then it bolted once again and acts first in a surprise round, thus instigating the chase.

Liberty's Edge

Chase Surprise Round - Enemy

The wolf slips from Sebastian's grasp with a snarl and bolts down the street, pushing one man off his feet to slam into a wall and collapse to the ground.

The street itself is actually an overpass and the creature leaps over the barrier and onto a low rooftop, bristling with chimney pots, clothes lines and loose slates.

Acrobatics vs dc 10: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

It dodges deftly in among the debris and covers ground quickly along the rooftop before it begins to slope down quite dramatically.

Chase Round 1 - Enemy

Choosing accelerated movement to move forward three squares but needs to bypass all obstacles in order to do so.

Not only does the roof slope dramatically but the slates crumble beneath it's clawed feet and it struggles to maintain balance.

Climb vs DC 10: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Acrobatics vs DC 20: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Determined and dextrous, neither obstacle proves a problem.

It spots a small gap in the wall and darts for it, hoping to gain cover from it's pursuers.

Escape Artist vs DC 15: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

But it's bulk slams into the wall. It struggles to push it's way through but with a roar of effort it forces through it's stocky form.

So, it succeeded at square 1 in it's surprise round and moved on to square 2. From there it decided to try to move 3 squares in one turn. It succeeded on the sloped, crumbling rooftops and moved on to square 3. However, because it failed by less than five on that square, it cannot move any further.

It is in square 3, 160 feet away and out of line of sight.

I hope that's not too complicated :/

Bloodied and beaten, the werewolf casts a furious glance behind it as it hauls itself up.

It sees Jon swoop down as Sebastian clambers down the wall like a spider while Markus, Davos and Cara watch on from above.

The wizard hurls a ball of black, viscous liquid down at the wolf but it dodges to one side and the ball spreads into a bubbling pool of grease beneath it's feet. With a hiss it slips and slides throuh.

The street into which it dropped is a busy thoroughfare for inns and rest stops. Even at this time of night there are several people on the street and it is with these that the wolf sees it's chance!

The citizens gasp as the wolf hit's the ground like a meteorite and the horrid, demon-like creature lands beside it only seconds later.

Help! one man shouts, turning to run and grabbing at others to do the same. Help us! There are monsters in the streets!

The others begin to panic and run. but not quickly enough.

Werewolf, charge, grab: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 2 = 32 Success.

The wolf dashes across the cobbled streets and seizes the man by the throat. It's claws dig into the soft flesh of the man's neck and his cry for help is cut short as thin rivulets of blood run down between the dirty nails.

Enough! it shouts in a thick, bestial voice. Enough of your cowardly spells Davos and your sanctimony, Markus. Jon, Sebastian take one step forward and you'll be washing this man's blood from your boots. Any arrows come sailing my way Cara and you'll have a great view of what comes next! I'm leaving here, or I will die here. But not before this man dies too.

Markus looks on as the wolf holds the man hostage. "It knows us?!" He then turns to look at the beast. "We want information, we want to know why your here where are the rest of your pack! The only way we're all getting out of here is if we get awnsers. Now put that man down, take me in his place." Markus then decends not moving any closer.

She knew it was risky, but an innocent was about to be murdered.

Round 5 - Enemy

The werewolf begins to back away, dragging the unfortunate man with him. He struggles against the powerful claws, bobbing like a fish on a line, eyes rolled back in abject horror.

This is happening! he thinks. This werewolf is actually taking me, it's going to eat me!

His mind is on the verge of snapping. Nothing in his life to this moment has ever prepared him for anything so awful. He cannot even mouth the words to cry for help.

Then, he hears that harsh voice from behind him;

You make me laugh. Forgive me if I don't believe any of this. Single combat? Please. Escort me to the gates.. it just shakes it's head. I will release this one when I am safe. How about I give you my word?

The monk begins to back off too, holding his hands upnon a placating gesture. "I believe we cannot win here. As Sifu once said it is wise to know when one is beaten. I am leaving.". As he passes Davos he whispers "Keep it talking. I'll try to get behind it." he contonues to back around the corner and whwm he is out of sight he begins to run. Down the alley that runs parallel to the street. It is risky but if he is careful he may get behind the wolf. He turns a corner then stops. He glances around the wall and can see the wolf amd his hostage a short distance away.

ok j. Here's the plan: this round I'm running around the building. Next round I'll try to sneak up on the wolf.

This should be interesting.

Markus watches as Sebastian, starts to leave. Then looking towards Cara. "Cara what are you talking about?" He says turning to the wolfs. "There needs to be compromise. This man has nothing to do with it we will let you go, but we have to know why you're here and if your pack will attack again. I can only assume you were one of Mathius pack before we put him down. You kill that man now and you seal your fate."

Jon watches on in growing frustration as the tension builds.
The wolf is unwilling to trust them and who can blame him he thinks as he lowers his sword.
the bloody watch will be here soon and then this is going to get a whole lot worse he thinks
If you know us then you know we are not oath breakers. This has gone on long enough, I give you my word we will not attack. I swear it on the souls of my family if you release him and attack no one else you will leave this city alive. What you do after that is up to you.
Jon says his voice steady and true, he means what he says and will not raise a hand against him if he does as asked.

And there's me thinking you were the son of an Oathbreaker, Jon.

The wolf continues to back away another 40 feet.

You are basically shouting after it now. Are you letting it go or going to attack? Unless anyone does anything different I think that's what it comes down to now.
