so how many rounds are we going to have to do all this stuff? Can Davos cast spider climb on everyone?

Davos that is a good idea it will make it easy for everyone to reach the top. I will fly up like Sebastian suggested and see if I can distract whoever is there so you can reach the top safely. Jon says hopefully they won't have too many crossbow men left

j whichever side they climb up I'll fly up the other side and cause some kind of distraction

Liberty's Edge

One important point for those getting help from spider climb, you must have both hands free in order to get the benefit. The DC for this climb is pretty high, 15

Can everyone let me know if they are climbing or using spider climb - it is relevant.

Liberty's Edge

From high in the tower you can hear a snarling voice, low and angry, like a wolf with bared teeth;

Your pack is weak Cybrisa. Always have the Broken Ones eaten the scraps left by the Silverhides, like carrion feeding hyenas - you are less than wolves.

The humans have slain your kind and now approach my Throne. Well let them come. I have consumed Sain's heart and rightfully claimed my title as Packlord. Vrood has the remainder of the heart so there can be no challenge. I will do what your pack was too wretched to achieve and slay the humans. I will eat their hearts and so take their power for my own.

Round 1 - Enemy

A great howl, louder than any you have heard rings out from atop the tower.

I told you to find them and kill them! Not return to me with your tail between your legs!

There is the sound of metal scraping on metal and then a high pitched yelp. A moment later, the big shaggy shape of a werewolf comes hurtling through the doorway at the top of the tower, it's head almost decapitated from its body.as it falls through the air, tumbling down in a spray of blood, it changed form and reverts to that of a young man just before it crashes to the ground with a sickening crunch of twisted bone.

I am Malthus Mordrinacht, Packlord of the Shudderwood and the apex predator of these lands. To stand against me is to invite slaughter!

The outline of a massive grey wolf appears at the top of the stairs and howls once more at the moon. It then turns and heads inside.

Moving over to one of the dead wolves Jon picks up one of the large swords and tests it's weight, the blade is heavy and feels unfamiliar in his hands.

I think we will need to deal as much damage to these bastards as possible, I'm hoping the silver will compensate for my lack of skill with this thing, they don't seem to be wearing armour so even if my attacks are a bit wild i recon I'll still hit them Jon says to them
we dont have long, we need to get up to him as soon as possible. Davos can you haste us again? Jon asks

Liberty's Edge

Jon, the wolves you fought on the roof didn't have silver greatswords, only the large ones you fought in the temple did. So unless someone took those as loot you'll need to fetch one from below.

Sebastian continues to climb, his back pressed against the wall of the tower. The preternatural light provided by the stars is skant illumintlation for scaling the ancient worn steps but for one such as him dim light is no barrier. His otherworldly sight enables him to pick out imperfections in the crumbling stonework and with his natural agility he steps easily over the places that would otherwise betray his presence with a tumble of dislodged stones or worse cause him to lose his balance and plummet over the precipice.

He makes steady progress and pauses only 20' away from the opening to the summit of the tower. He listens intently for any sign of movement within, trying to ignore the sounds of his comrades ascending the stair below him.

He freezes as suddenly a dark shape registers on the periphery of his vison. He watches the winged being for a while before realising that it is Jon launching himself from the tenple roof and ascending in a spiral around the tower.

Liberty's Edge

Whether through magical assistance or natural dexterity, the party clambers up the tower. A single door leads in to a darkened room within.

Just beneath the observatory at the top of the tower, a series of 10 foot high arches breaks the perimeter of the column, forming a crude monopteron. As in the temple below, the floor is inlaid with the ravages of time by the roof above it. To the north, a flight of stone stairs leads up to an opening in the ceiling.

Vines crawl hungrily over the floor and walls and to the south, a huge throne sits against the wall. But unlike any throne of iron or stone, this seat is made from hundreds, if not thousands, of bones. You can see the individual bones of deer and elk as well as half a dozen or more human skulls adorning the head rest.

Sitting in the throne is a massive, grey-haired werewolf. More muscular than any other you have faced and with a snarling expression of disdain on his lupine face, he regards you with hungry yellow eyes.

So. You have come to take my Throne. You will not find me the mewling welp, not like Cybrisa's pack of pathetic creatures. he nods his head in the direction of a female wolf standing beside the throne. For I am Malthus Mordrinacht, Alpha of the Shudderwood.

He stands, drawing himself to his full height of eight feet of towering muscle and fur and fang. His broad chest is covered with a battered breastplate and he wears a massive bastard sword and dagger, both jagged and brutal in their design. And with slow, deliberate movements, he draws them both.

The female beside him moves more lithely and almost looks more fox than wolf. She cows her head at his words and maintains a respectful distance from the packlord.

I devoured Sain's heart and claimed the Lordship. Malthus continues. And now I shall consume yours also.

The female wolf begins to gesture and mutter words of an unknown language. Her claws begin to glow a deep green and then in an instant the vines that cover the tower become her deadly allies! You can use this skill to cause an opponent to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target's Hit Dice + the target's Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.

It doesn't allow a save, it's vs a Dc like a combat manoeuvre and I either beat the DC and intimidate you or not beat it and fail. The feat Dazzling Display allows an individual to use the Intimidate action to demoralise anyone who can see them

Taking a step forward, her voice bolsters her companions, as she unleashes a single arrow at the one who seemed to be casting a spell moments ago.

Jons blood runs cold as the howl tears through the silence of the night and he tightens his grip on the huge silver sword.
Suddenly the whole tower erupts with writhing snake like mass of ivy and vegetation and Jon barely evades the magical entrapment.

devoured Sains heart? Jon scoffs, nothing but scorn in his voice as he calls out to the wolf you had it hand fed to you like a puppy more like, by your master Vrood! You are nothing Malthus, you are no pack lord just a lapdog wannabe and that's all you'll ever be whilst you are under Vroods thumb
Jon shouts at the ravening wolf.

Cara - You're right that good hope provides a 2 but shakened will cancel that out so Davos is still entangled.

Jon, you can't move that far. Although you are not entangled, the entire region is difficult terrain and takes double movement to traverse. With your enhanced speed of 90ft you can reach X47 with a full round of movement but not cast Balefire

You couldn't take the throne yourself so you had to fall so low. I want one of them alive!" Markus then points at the spellcaster. "Why are you following him! Morbar hauls himself through the grasping vines, ripping and tearing his way through until he comes face to face with the Packlord himself. Impressed by the wolf's display of skill but nonetheless undeterred, Morbar brings his hammer down in a huge overhand sweep...

...which is met by the blade of Malthus' dagger and deflected.

The manoeuvre would have taken tremendous strength and no little skill. However he claimed the title of Packlord, Morbar realises he is facing a mighty warrior indeed.

He has no time to ponder this as the massive bastard sword sweeps up toward his head in a smooth and blinding motion;

Malthus, AOO for movement, Morbar: 1d20 + 13 - 3 ⇒ (7) + 13 - 3 = 17

But the dwarf spots it and ducks the slash at the last moment.

Markus and Jon move up and cast their spells whilst Davos, Sebastian and Cara remain in the tangle of vines.

Round 1 - Enemy

Half blind with burning pain, the female wolf staggers backward and past Malthus. Whatever effect Markus' words may have had she seems too agonised for them to register. In a panic, she raises her hands and casts a spell and suddenly a tremendous blast of driving sleet fills the tower. Markus and Jon lose sight of the enemy and their friends whilst the others are all suddenly chilled to their bones by the biting wind.

Sleet Storm wrote:

Driving sleet blocks all sight (even darkvision) within it and causes the ground in the area to be icy. A creature can walk within or through the area of sleet at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can't move in that round, while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details).

The sleet extinguishes torches and small fires.

If anyone caught in the area attempts to move, they must make a DC 10 acrobatics check. Further more, you can now only move through these entangled and stormed areas at quarter speed.

Come then, dwarf. test your skill against me. Know that your friends shall soon follow you in death!
