Ratel Dier |
Overhearing Ighiz's comment, Azriel points at the owlbear carcasses, "If I butcher these owlbear's we may be able to supplement the food stores a little." He shrugs a little, "We may have to smoke it so it tenderizes a little and doesn't get stuck in my craw."
Yeah, let's go ahead and butcher it, do you want me to roll, or can I take 10?
GM Mort |
Go ahead and take 10
Each owlbear carcass can be butchered to give enough meat for a medium sized humanoid (human/trog) for one and a half weeks. 10 provision points from each owlbear
GM Mort |
Edran goes to commission a shortbow, a bard's kit and some arrows, while Azriel distributes the butchered pieces of owlbear among the troglodytes. The leshies, following Skinder’s gesture come out of the caves to see the owlbears dead and do a happy dance.
Will leave Ighiz to elaborate on the flood prevention measures, and Victor and Co still have to clean up the clay pit after the flood

The night passes uneventfully and the party sets off the next morning through the Fangwood. On the third hour of travels they run into group of plant people. One of them has a snapdragon blossom for a head, while the other three have bodies composed of lichens and a rain cape woven from leafy growths.

Nigel knowledge nature: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Robert knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Nigel recognize the snapdragon blossomed humanoid as a snapdragon leshy.
Whereas most leshys are reclusive and content to quietly nurture the natural world, snapdragon leshys are consummate extroverts. They often find their way into settled areas, where they caper and gab at those around them. When their neighbors are slow to laugh, snapdragon leshys sometimes resort to juvenile pranks to elicit a reaction. These escalating exploits often prompt townsfolk to chase off the plant people, which the leshys are quick to forgive so long as nobody comes to harm.
A snapdragon leshy has the bardic performance ability of a 4th-level bard, granting it access to that ability’s countersong, distraction, fascinate, inspire competence, and inspire courage aspects.
Grenwold knowledge nature: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Nigel knowledge nature: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Robert knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Grenwold, and Robert recognize those with bodies composed of lichens as lichen leshies.
Like the curious plantlike organisms from which they’re composed, lichen leshys are rugged creatures able to survive in unforgiving climates. Unlike most leshys, lichen leshys are rarely content to stay in one place for long, instead using their survival skills to reach the grandest vistas, harshest environs, and most daring heights. There, they rest in quiet contemplation and awe, slowly breaking down inhospitable rocks into nutrient-rich soil that can sustain new plant life.
Lichen leshys almost always wear cozy rain cloaks that they use to blur their outlines and better camouflage their forms. They often secret away tiny mementos within their garb to remind them of their greatest achievements, and one can earn a lichen leshy’s ready assistance if willing to listen to its rambling tales of how it found each trophy/
Lichen leshys are immune to sonic and electricity attacks.
The lichen leshy’s attacks envelop the target in a lattice of delicate digestive growths. As a standard action, a creature can tear away any such growths. If a creature ends its turn without having removed the growths, the tendrils fall away as they release acid that deals 2d4 points of acid damage, and the victim must succeed at a Fortitude save or become staggered for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based.
A lichen leshy can spit a tangle of filaments as a standard action. If it hits, this attack deals 1 point of damage (this damage is not modified by Strength) and affects the target with the lichen leshy’s degradation ability. The filaments have a range increment of 20 feet and a maximum range of 100 feet.
A lichen leshy can adhere to nearly any surface, as though constantly under a natural version of spider climb.

Nigel's breath catches in his throat for a moment, but then he forces himself to smile, greeting the leshies.

Steff:.” Hessilda introduces the other 3 lichen leshies.
””Hessilda pipes up.
Hessilda pleads with Nigel.
Your smile was weird. Are you sure you’re doing very well? You look like you just bit into a crabapple.
My name is Hessilda and these are my travel buddies, Billo, Rej and Steff.
Could you tell us some tales about your adventures? I love listening to stories.
Well ahead the forest is pretty bare – it’s been overhunted by a 3 headed flying monster. I don’t think there are even squirrels around. All got eaten up.
Billo answers.
There was also this pixie that looked sick – her skin was covered in bleeding sores and she had fungus on her wings.
Steff adds.
We could pay those sunflower leshies a visit. They’re always good for a chat.
Rej suggests.

"Դա միայն անցնող խնդիր էր: Ձեզ հաճելի է հանդիպել բոլորիդ: Մենք, իհարկե, ունեցել ենք որոշ արկածներ ..."
He then proceeds to explain the story of the exploration of Nessen's tomb, and the clearing-out of the troll infestation at one of the forts.
When they mention the three-headed beast, Nigel nods grimly.
"Իրականում, մենք փնտրում ենք այդ գազանին `այն սպանել է մեր գայլի ընկերոջը, եւ մենք մտադիր ենք այն վճարել` գործընթացում անտառի անվտանգ վայր դարձնելով:"
When the fungal pixie is mentioned, Nigel shivers.
"Դա հնչում է տհաճ: Մենք անպայման անպայման ակնկալում ենք նրա համար: Որտեղ եք տեսել նրան:"

” Դե, դուք կարող եք մեզ պատմել Տեսիլքներ եւ վայրեր, որոնք տեսել եք: Մանրամասներ, կեսը orc, մանրամասները:” Hessilda pesters Hedran incessantly.
Well you could tell us about the monsters and places you’ve seen. Details, half orc, details![/b]
Nigel
Hessilda listens attentively to Nigel’s stories. ” Oooh! She compliments him. " Moar?”
Then she turns to Hedran,” Ահա թե ինչ նկատի ունեմ մանրամասների մասին: Ինչպես եւ ինչպես է նա հարվածել խոշոր տրոլհարդին, իր զորավոր անձնակազմի մեկ օջախով, որ այն կրակի վրա է դրված ...
Hessilda then makes a face, ”
[Spoiler=Sylvan]
Oooh! You’re a good storyteller! Moar?
That’s what I mean about details. Like how he smote the large trollhound with one swing of his mighty staff such that it was set on fire…you should learn from him. Juicy, juicy details!
On a side note, I really hate undead. They’re a disruption to the natural balance.
Billo replies angrily, ”
That beast is stupid. Doesn’t it know if it eats everything up today it gets to go hungry tomorrow?
Overhunting depletes the animal life, and without animals, plants cannot survive.
Fertilizer standpoint of view – the annual salmon migrations are responsible for giving the area nutrients to support the redwood forests
We saw her about 2 days east from here. I don’t know if they have shamans among their kind, but she looked like she could the help of one. Or maybe she’s already died of her illness.

Robert's arrows bounce off the chimera's scales.
Father Noelan looks at Weasel's badly scorched body with a critical eye. "I'm sorry, but he's gone." Father Noelan informs Hedran regretfully.
Technically it'd take a heal check or a failed stabilize spell to find that out, but it'd waste a standard action and I don't want to do that to you guys.

Dropping the sling the injured Ratel drinks his mutagen. As he changes he moves forward ducking and dodging, arming his shield, hoping the beast would attack him instead of Bear. Telling Bear "Attack Bear!" As Bear moves forward and tries to bite the beast.

Bear tries to bite at the chimera but his teeth do not penetrate its scales.
"Hedran" |
Hedran does not know he died by one point. This is why I pick familiars with good con (weasels are on the higher end) and by a familiar satchel.
GM Mort |
Familiar satchel does not work for bodyguard for protector familiars. You need line of effect for bodyguard to work. A protector gains Bodyguard and Combat Reflexes as bonus feats. If the familiar is sharing its master’s square, it can use Bodyguard to aid another to improve its master’s AC even if it doesn’t threaten the attacking foe, though it still needs line of effect to its master and the attacker.
"Hedran" |
They stay in the satchel in combats when aoes are at a high chance and come out for others. They also always start combat there preventing the situation when parties are most vulnerable to aoe.
If the familiar doesn't have line of effect to anything, it's going to be tough for it to use its abilities. It might potentially manage it while taking at least some cover, though.
GM Mort |
I didn't see any mention about putting familiars in satchels even though you knew you were going to hunt something with a breath weapon for a while already. Nor do I see a familiar satchel on your inventory list. And I have been counting bodyguard in at all times so I just think that weasel was perched on your shoulder all this while.
I'm personally fond of bats for blindsense but my familiar is not taking an active role in combat.
Grenwold Houtvester |
Earlier, Leshy Time
Grenwold hops off of Fenton to greet the various Leshies at their level, speaking to them happily of his adventures. "We've investigated forts that had been captured by trolls, recently, and we met a kind giant who was helping to protect the forest before then. Mostly we just dispatch hobgoblin army patrols. Many of our family members or friends have been enslaved or captured when the town of Phaendar was taken. We are marshalling what support we can muster to retake the town that is on the border of the Fangwood, and these days, we are hoping that support will come in the form of the Chernasardo rangers, who live in these woods with you folk, and have been protecting the Fangwood from Molthuni and the legion. Myself, I come from a small settlement far to the northern part of the Fangwood..." Grenwold explains a bit about where he's from, and the battle that is being waged against.
When the leshies mention the blighted pixie, he visibly recoils. "The blight?? It has reached us already!?" Grenwold is more animated than anyone has seen him before, a look of fear, revulsion, and rage that plays across his face and body language. He looks slightly sickened, and then composes himself. "It was inevitable that Arlantia would extend her tendrils of horror further and further. I had felt a little like 'chicken little' worrying about the darkblight, and yet we have our first verifiable report of this infestation in the area..."
He shudders, and says at the end of the conversation to the Leshies, "Go, go, GO! get south, to safety. Stay out of Northern Fangwood. Your very souls depend on it. The blight corrupts your essence and turns you against your friends and family, and rots you physically, mentally, and spiritually!"
He appears to be lost in thought when they depart from the meeting of the leshies, and he is distracted when he first sees the chimera.
