Charles nods, perches himself in a weirdly comfortable way and begins methodically working the epick. It's euphorically calming for him.

Charles spends a long while doing so, but eventually his picking skills pay off. The light turns green and the door slides open! The party enters.

A row of beds sits along the southern wall of this well-lit room. Glowing screens and metal desks sit on the opposite walls, and splatters of blood adorn the floor and several of the beds. To the east, a large metal device that is the size of a large bed hums softly. As you listen, you hear a faint noise coming from inside this device... a knocking? A kicking!!

Before you can do anything though, you become aware of robots in the room. Two more medical drones, like in the previous room, and a flying robot, hovering about 5 feet above the ground, with large pincher claws.

Androffan!:
"The patient is resting comfortably. His needs are being met. It is not visiting hours. YOU MUST LEAVE."

You may have reached Khonnir! Now take down the ones who did this to him!

Either way, the dwarf heard the kicking and assumes it's Baine. Realizing how much that could mean to Charles and Zeke especially, he started to inspire once again, his uplifting voice causing the room to shake, throwing the two on the ground off balance a bit. His weapon still empty from the other fight, he loads it, ray to unleash his weapon upon the robots.

inspire +1, tremor v enemy's -1.

Garfaulk takes a careful look at the new fangled robit. This one seems to have some pretty heavy armor on it. It probably won't be hard to hit, but it is going to be hard to do any damage.

Starting now, you are going to have to deal with robot "hardness". It will quickly become the bane of your existence and getting around hardness will remain a primary challenge throughout the Iron Gods Campaign. Hardness is like damage reduction, except there is no way (that you currently know of) to bypass it. Even elemental magic, like fire, electricity, or cold, is stopped by hardness. At this point, your hope is to hit it really really hard. You could probably ask Sanvil Trett about it.

SUMMARY ROUND 1

Thanks to Garfaulk's song both inspiring the team and knocking the "robit" of balance, an incredibly inaccurate but huge Wulf manages smash one of the medical droids (25 damage)! Charles follows after him, artfully throwing a hidden dagger, which ends up in the droids eye. It falls over, permanently deactivated.

The only one who has bad luck is Ton'iel, who quickly learns the flying robot will be hard to take down. See Roll20 journal for a close up on the flying drone!

The two remaining surge into action. The flying drone five foot steps to Wulf, and with two claws, slams and grab him. Wulf is grappled! (2 hits for 10 damage total)

The medical droid says gibberish in Androffan, and steps to Charles, which would normally provoke an AoO from Wulf, but he is grappled.

Androffan:
"Dr. Smith! The little one has deactivated you. Security! Security!"
The medical droid hits Charles dealing 7 damage, and the needles inject an anesthetic, but Charles fights against it and nothing happens.

Garfaulk missed. Charles retreats, and Zeke heals the party. Wulf-- Zeke healed you for 13 this round. I'm guessing you are not at 15/34. Correct?

LaRA casts a personalized web spell at the robot... it get tangled in the sticky strings, which connect it to the ceiling. It is grappled. It was already grappled because it was grappling Wulf, but now doubly so. :) LaRA please remember to include DCs. Didn't matter in this case because I rolled terrible

The sticky robot attempts to maintain it's grapple on Wulf. It fails! Wulf is free. Stuck by the webbing and distracted by the appearance of the ice elemental, the robot can take no other action!

As Garfaulk looks to the rest of them struggling to defeat the robot, he wouldnt help but wonder if he'd have been better off training more as a wizard instead of just dabbling in the arcane arts. What they needed was a professional in the Arcane Arts, another wizard. If only he knew where to find one... then, like the muzzle flash of his boomstick, he got an idea. Moving over to the wall to peak past LaRA, he looked at the contraption presumably holding Baine in it, looking to figure out which would be a better way to open it, shooting the hinges, the keypad, or doing something more... extreme.

Garfaulk, after examining the device you figure you have about as good of a chance of blowing the whole thing up as doing something clever with it.

ROUND SUMMARY

Charles and Ton do their best to distract the thing, their attacks bouncing off its armor. Thankfully, Wulf is able to get off a very strong hit and really crunches it. The robot is clearly heavily damaged, now.

Garfaulk continues his song and examines the device where the muffled kicks are coming from, but doesn't see anything he can do... besides simply sliding the black access card.

The robot, stuck now between a Wulf and an elemental, splits its attacks! It hits Wulf, doing 7 damage, but is not able to grab on.

The ice elemental swipes again. A tiny portion of it's attack gets through the armor, and the freezing cold slows down the robot, staggering it for one turn!

Garfaulk was about to shoot the hinges when, much to his relief, Charles had noticed what he was doing and swiped the card. Relieved he wasn't about to blow up the person they were looking for, he instead aimed Slagbreather at the bot.

Slagbreather: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 4 = 1

Damnit!

Much to his dismay, a plume of smoke and flame shot out the sides of the gun, as well as the front of it as the gun misfired. He continued his song, but just barely, as this was a problem. Still, he'd always known that this could be an issue, and was somewhat prepared. Putting his hand on the gun, he murmured a few words, a few blue sparks wrapping around it as he used some of his arcane talent to keep it together.

With another huge blow, Wulf slams the robot and it collapses... He has ended the robot threat.

Meanwhile, Charles unlocks the machine and throws open the lid. Inside he sees an aging man, probably about 55 years old or so, with a variety of tubes and needles stuck into him. It is Khonnir Baine, of course, and Charles immediately recognizes him.

Khonnir looks around frantically, not seeming to recognize Charles, and his arms and legs start thrashing uncontrollably. He continues in this manner until Zeke approaches and tries to soothe him. Khonnir settles, his eyes locking on Zeke's face. He tries to talk, his mouth opening and closing, but no words come out. And finally, his strength spent, Khonnir passes out.

Letting out a few deep breaths, Wulf starts to relax. Seeing nothing else to put down, he places his hammer on the floor and takes a knee, feeling the stick blood begin to dry on his skin and bead of sweat dripping from his head. "Is he ok Zeke? Not injured?" He says over pants.

Zeke rushes to Khonnir Baine's side when he sees Garfaulk and Charles opening the machine. "Don't worry, Mr. Khonnir," he thinks to him with concern and love, "It'll all be all right. We'll get you out of here."

Zeke nods to Wulf, and beckons to the big man to come over to help lift him once he is disentangled. The half-elf examines the machine and then after a quick prayer to his god he tries to remove the paraphernalia from Khonnir Baine without causing more damage to the old man.

LaRA stares blankly as the robot is brought down, and the pod opened. "Hypothesis: A process was interrupted, leaving the subject confused. Possibility of lasting negative effects.", she blurts out, as the man falls unconscious. "Query: Is this the human you are looking for?", she asks as she moves next to the bed to look at the wizard's face. Does not prompt memetic response. "Suggestion: A rest cycle is advised. This room, unlike the previous one, appears to lack decaying biological tissue, and entity Khonnir might require observation. Remaining here and resting calculated to be the most optimal decision." She blinks twice, and upon seeing everyone surrounding Khonnir, she turns her attention to the robots, drawing a book and an odd-looking quill. Beginning data analysis and retrieval of valuable resources.

Rolls/OoC:

Knowledge(Engineering) on the room and everything else.: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
I suggest resting, since we're all a bit low on health, spells, and we might have to carry Khonnir if we don't.

Charles nods. "Not long, though. Limited exit window."

As LaRA is probably not yet aware of the water-breathing issue, the others let her know that resting inside the iron ruin will add more complication as they would then have to escape through the watery tunnel without the benefit from the spell. The group consensus is to make your way to the exit. Wulf picks up Khonnir, who hangs limply from his arms. On the way out the room, Charles noticed a stash of medical equipment sitting on the desk. He swipes it all into his backpack for later identification.

You need to get Khonnir out of here, through the watery tunnel, and keep him alive!

You know what that means. It is time... for a SKILL CHALLENGE

Skill Challenge!

Rules: There are six things you must do. For the first round, each player must take one of these things and do their best at it. You can chat and plan about who should do what. If you succeed at all six of these things, you pass! If you hit six failures, you fail the skill check.... and then who knows what will happen?

Untrained checks are allowed (but not recommended).

If you don't succeed in Round 1 (likely), then in Round 2 and beyond you can shuffle who does what, with others rolling to aid.

1. One person must make a DC 18 Heal check (Zeke, you are so fast on the draw, but the one you just did doesn't count. Actually you should thank me for that because it wasn't good enough)

2. One person must make a DC 18 Nature check.

3. One person must make a DC 18 Engineering check.

4. One person must make a DC 18 Arcana check.

5. One person must make a DC12 swim check.

6. And finally-- you need to devise a method or contraption for getting an unconscious Khonnir through the underwater tunnel without drowning. And then do the same for the conscious LaRA. This can be any check or spell that you deem appropriate.

Oh you tried, but the skulks stole it because they wanted the rope. Retconned! (in any case, wouldn't help the unconscious old guy)

That works. This is out of Charlie's skill set entirely, as far as I can figure. Can we send someone out to bring the guy with the staff to us?

This is up to you and you alone! Khonnir may not live long enough to have external help come.

The #6 requirement is entirely flexible, if you put on your thinking cap and propose something I may go with it.

Charles could also attempt the swim check certainly, and hope for a good roll.

Zeke's the only one with Heal, right? Probably best to let him keep trying. We might get lucky with an Aid Another attempt?

If enough of these tubes from the medical machines are long enough, maybe we could rig up an extended snorkel for Khonnir Baine? Zeke's Craft Mechanical skill might be appropriate for that.

Let me kick you off with some organization. You fill in the gaps:

round 1 attempts:
1. Heal: Zeke
2. Nature: LaRA
3. Engineering:
4. Arcana:
5. Swim:
6. Keep Khonnir & LaRA breathing:

Everyone needs to get assigned. Even if you end up taking an unskilled check.

Ton has a decent Arcana skill

"Nice plan Zeke. That will work if we can get it long enough or tie enough together. We probably need some kind of waterproof helmet for him though, I doubt he would just breath naturally with a tube stuffed in his gob."

Keeping going with the breathing plan. Figure out the helmet situation for him and you would have something I could approve with a decent crafting or knowledge:engineering check.

I have nature. But I might be best at swim because I'm not good at the others. +7swim, +6 nature.

Wulf places Baine down carefully, knowing what it will mean to Val and the town when they get him out. "I'll have to carry him out and swim with him. That tube idea could work, there has to be something we can break off from the place to stick on his head." He moves back in looking around.

Percpetion: 1d20 + 6 - 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 6 = 11

He looks around checking the smashed robot for anything they could use, anything helmet-shaped. Hitting a few of them again to see what drops off.
