Nsizi nodded at Min's assessment - the creature looked like it could crush him without breaking a sweat.

He looked around - they were quite close to the eastern gate. If they could just lure the thing that way, then maybe they could just lock it outside.

"Must be hungry," he had to half-shout over the wind. "Perhaps we can get him to the gate. I will try to get him to follow me. You be ready to chase him, or save me." He tried for a smile, but it felt more like a grimace.

"Spirits, favour me with your protection," he said, hoping for a little help.

Bunching the front of his neswambi up in front of him, he arranged it to look like a big sack. Moving a few steps closer to the ogre, he called out, "Hello, my big friend! I have some food here! Come, let us share it!" He shook the false sack to get its attention, ready to move towards the gate.

diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Casting divine favour. Hoping I can use diplomacy through body language as well (assuming it doesn't speak our languages). Moving only close enough so it can see clearly. From the map it looks like we're just south of the east gate - will try to lure it there.

The scene resembled one Nsizi must have seen back in her home. It looked like a lion was tearing into a zebra carcass while hyenas circled the kill.

Like the lion he resembled, the ogre snarled and growled at them. The meaning was clear, 'keep away or else...'.

Hi all. Your GM has invited me to join and I am excited about the prospect. I wanted to post here to ask what character class/roll you think you need filled. I am pretty happy playing most any roll and will try to build a well developed character around that roll. I know when a new player joins a group I am in I like it when they ask what we need so am ask you guys.

My quick thought was that you could use a skill based person like maybe a bard or rogue or ranger. And thematically I was thinking outdoor skills could be a big plus but I have not read any of the postings yet to see if that is the case. I really did not want to peek at the story until my character was chosen.

Skorn means 'role'. :)

Good first impression there, buddy. :)

Just kidding here. We like to have fun in my games.

FYI: I PMed Akosua again today to see what's going on since I have not heard from her since last Friday.

With an oracle, conjurer, and slayer (maybe cleric), I think that an outdoors person would fit in nicely. But as we talked, I would rather you come up with a great personality/background/motivations/fears/etc. and then we'll figure out what class this person is.

Welcome aboard, Skorn. Fabian's right, play what speaks to you. That being said, I think we're lacking in someone capable of effective ranged attacks :)

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Even amidst the storm, the half-orc notices that the sac being carried by the ogre is moving. "Nsizi, there is no time for niceties. The ogre has something alive in that bag." Zeljka wasn't about to intimidated by the ogre and answers its growl with one of her own. She begins moving towards the ogre with weapon at the ready. "Last chance! Drop the sac and leave."

Next round would be to move and engage the ogre. If Zeljka can make it to him and attack it she will as her next round action - if the ogre complies with leaving then she won't attack (but I doubt it will)

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

"I noticed that..." said Nsizi never.

Nsizi sighed. Lions never allowed hyenas to chase them off. Not unless they were outnumbered by a lot more than three to one.

"I think our big friend will not leave without a fight. He has found something he believes is important. Perhaps if we shoot at him, he will chase us towards the gate. We still might be able to do this with little danger."

Pulling his new crossbow around, he fitted a bolt into it as Zeljka had shown him at the farm. Taking careful aim, he held his breath and pulled the trigger.

crossbow: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 1 = 12
damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Unfortunately the bolt went wide. He definitely needed more instruction with this weapon.

Welcome Skorn! We'd rather you play somebody interesting than "the perfect class". Looking forward to what you come up with.

oops, just saw that I cross posted with Zeljka. I will edit as follows.

"I think our big friend will not leave without a fight. He has found something he believes is important. Perhaps if we shoot at him, he will chase us towards the gate. We still might be able to do this with little danger."

Pulling his new crossbow around, he struggled to get the bolt into the slot.

Alarmed, Nsizi let the crossbow swing back around on its strap. Had he managed to pull the trigger before Zeljka's warning, he might have hit whatever the ogre was taking. Hopefully just a goat, but maybe not.

Picking up his iwisa, he moved forward with the half-orc.

Fabian, do you want us to take this right up to melee?

I gave you initiative and you all acted for Round 1. The ogre just growled for Round 1 so I need everyone's actions for Round 2. The ogre will act for Round 2 after you guys.

So far for Round 2: Zelkja spoke and tried to intimidate the ogre.; Nsizi ? and Min hasn't posted yet.

I intend to gather all your Round 2 actions and figure what the ogre does for Round 2.

"Zeljka!" she warned the half-orc. "If you go in for an attack, try to approach from the left; he's favoring that side. I'll try to get him to drop the bag."

Combat Advice on Zeljka: +2 competence bonus on her next attack roll against the ogre; Ready an action to use her Arcane Bond to cast grease on the sack in his hand if the ogre approaches within range (30 feet): Reflex DC 14 or he drops the sack

Doesn't look like she's close enough to the ogre to cast right now, and she certainly doesn't want to move and be the closest thing to it. If the ogre doesn't approach this round, she'll move up behind Zeljka next round and cast the spell.

We are quite weak at ranged attacks. If Akosua doesn't come back, healing is going to be a bit scarce as well; clws don't spread as far as channels.

Zeljka knew she needed to stay out of the ogre's reach so she took Min's words into consideration along with what she had learned from her own eyes and approached the ogre's left from behind. Bringing her falchion down, she sliced across its back.

attack,study,combat advice: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 17
damage: 2d4 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 + 1 = 15

Let's hope that hits but I have my doubts...

omg, damage is 2d8+7?!?! Run away!

Nsizi could feel the impact of the ogre's "weapon" on the muddy ground right through his bones. He did NOT want to get hit.

"Min! Can you get around behind? Is that a person in the sack?"

Grabbing his spear as he spoke, he held it in a two handed grip and lunged past Zeljka.

spear: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11

Unfortunately, the Bas'o man's knee gave out at the last moment, and he nearly ended up sprawled in the mud. He managed to catch himself at the last moment, and hoped he had not tangled the half-orc up with his failure.

Oh sure, 19's and 20s when I'm using diplomacy in the town, but a 1 when I fight the ogre.

"Really? You're sure you'll be all right? Back up toward the road and try to draw Mr. Congeniality farther away from the bag!" Uneasily, Min acceded to Nsizi's request. She started around the side of the larger house, praying that the other two would still be on their feet when she saw them next.

Double move around the north side of the bigger house, with an aim to use the building as cover to approach the dropped sack. No intention of getting within 10 feet of the ogre.

Zeljka was barely able to keep her footing. She had no idea how Nsizi was still conscious. "Nsizi, go help Min. There's no reason why we should both die today."

OOC: Whew. Yeah, it's dead so go ahead and write that up.

Nsizi and Min can react to the ogre's death as well.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

For once the dice roller likes me! It really likes me :)

Zeljka's blade slices the ogre deeply from pelvis to shoulder. There is a look of surprise on its face as its intestines spill out on to the ground before it. First the makeshift club slumps to the ground followed by the creature's body as its face goes slack and its eyes roll back in its head.

The half-orc sinks to the ground, panting hard. The pain radiating through her body is intense but she's too tired to do anything about it.

"Thank the spirits!" Nsizi slumped down beside his large companion. "You are Bufi, the ogre-slayer. You have saved both our lives." The smaller Bas'o man leaned up and kissed her on the cheek. He then took her hand and asked the spirits to heal the worst of their wounds.

As the relief of healing spread through his damaged head, he thought to look up at Min. "Are you unharmed? What of the sack?"

clw Zeljka: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

clw Nsizi: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Min came around the back side of the house just in time to see Zeljka gut the ogre. "Oh, well done!" she shouted. "I mean, a bit gory, but...."

Nsizi's question reminded her of her original intention. She approached the sack cautiously and dismissed the spell making it greasy, not sure what might be inside.

Is it tied shut? If so, she'll untie it from as far to one side as she can stand, in case something fierce dashes out. Otherwise, she'll use the end of her staff to lift up one side of the opening and peer it.

In fairness to the module re: monster placement, I doubt Paizo expected a three-man party, two of whom are a lame oracle and a wizard. :)

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Zeljka stiffened as Nsizi kissed her cheek since the contact was unexpected, surprising her. Sneak Attack Affection! Ausk had been the last one to show her any kind of affection and it seemed like an eternity ago. Just as she thought a wave of sadness was going to drown her, healing energy flows into her body courtesy of Nsizi's spirits and brings her back to the present. The pain eases and Zeljka can breathe freely again. "Thank you and your spirits."

Inside the sack were several items that the ogre had managed to pillage from the two homes it had smashed a new opening into.

What seemed to be making the sack moving were chickens, four in fact. They cawed a few times and quickly made their way into the storm.

Among the other items were a variety of nearly worthless plates, cutlery, paintings, and pillows, as well as two potions of cure moderate wounds, a scroll of water breathing, a wand of touch of the seaAPG (3rd level, 15 charges remaining), and six amethyst gems worth 70 gp each.

_____________
RP in the meantime, I intend to recap later today when you report back to Adaela unless you tell me differently.

Nsizi began laughing weakly as the chickens flapped out of the sack. "Hens," he wheezed, cradling his sore head. "The heroes of Pridon's Hearth. We saved hens." The laughing faded away as a spike of pain went through his head.

The storm was getting worse, and Nsizi shivered as the wind cooled the sweat from his body. Wiping blood from his brow, he used Zeljka's shoulder to help lever himself up from the muddy ground. "Perhaps the bosi will know who these items belong to. Let us return to her." Secretly he was hoping she would be done needing help, and they could sit with a hot meal in the Stone Hall.

"Yes, well," Min remarked dryly, "I suggest we mention slaying the ogre and not say a word about the chickens. We'd better get the rest of this stuff back to the sheriff before the storm hits. No time to sort out where Prince Charming nabbed it from now ... and she might need to requisition some of it for the aftermath," she added, with an appraising look at the potions and other magic items.

Action 1:

The half-orc was still feeling the after-effects of the ogre's hit. She was limping slightly as her body tried to move in a manner that caused her the least amount of pain.

When the sheriff gave them the ok to keep the items the ogre had taken, Zeljka looked through them for the first time. She had no use for the gems, paper, or the stick but she picked up one of the vials of liquid. "If this helps cure wounds then I will take one."

Zeljka will take one of the CMW potions. Nsizi should probably take the other. We don't want our box of bandaids going down.

Action 2:

Zeljka knew she wouldn't be very good at convincing anyone to leave unless the 'convincing' meant carrying them off against their will. However, if the others decided to go then she would go with them to keep them safe. If Nsizi and Min had encountered the ogre without her being there then things could have gone badly.

"To what extent are we to convince the three to leave their homes? Do you know of any specific reason why they refuse to leave?"

Nsizi took the second potion and drained it without a word. The healing energies were splendid - much better than anything he'd managed with help from the spirit world. Feeling much better, he listened to the sheriff's final request of them.

Action 1

"Cat herder?" he asked, not understanding. Akosua quickly filled him in on the expression, and he smiled. "Ah, yes, I understand. One of my baba's in the tribe was much the same. I think I know what to do." Turning to Min and Bufi, he said, "This may be something I can do alone - do you want to try one of the others?"

When they headed back out into the storm, Nsizi headed first to where some men were filling sandbags to help keep the floodwaters out of their homes. The dark-skinned oracle took a good handful of empty bags. He then borrowed an unused barrow, and headed to Maso's house.

"Especially relieved and thankful will be Count Narsus, who had stayed home for fear of the brute."

Min perked up, hopeful that word of her involvement with slaying the ogre might give her a foot in the door with the count. "Where is Count Narsus holing up for the storm? I presume his home has been prepared for the onslaught?"

I believe Min is the only party member who can use the wand. Is the scroll divine or arcane?

Action 2

Nsizi wrote:

Min turned to Zeljka with a shrug. "Do you want to start with the hermit or the husband-hunter? I have a few ideas to try to persuade them."

Female half-orc Slayer/7

The half-orc didn't really understand why anyone would risk their lives to stay in a house. She was glad that Min had some ideas to persuade them to leave. "Why don't we start with Mirya since she knows us already. It may not take as long."

"All right." She nodded at Zeljka, then turned to Nsizi. "If you need any help, we shouldn't be far. None of us comes back to Stone Hall as long as any of us are out there; no one gets left behind." She looked to the half-orc and the Bas'o to agree to the pact.

"I agree," Nsizi said. "With luck we will all be back in the Stone Hall soon, eating warm food and listening to the storm."

Nsizi was surprised to see somebody else out there, until he remembered the sheriff's last words. The halfling and the distraught colonist seemed even more surprised to see Nsizi. The Bas'o supposed that thin, black, two-spirit people with nearly-shaved heads, and sporting colourful neswambi wraps covered in fetishes, straps and pouches were an uncommon site.

Pleased to see that there was only one cat left to wrangle, Nsizi introduced himself and said, "Please, Kaka Pareto, it is time to leave this place. Delour would not want you to risk yourself, and your other cattas will need you to be safe."

diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Assuming the cat needs to be found

"I believe I can help," the Bas'o said, scrubbing rain from his face. "Cattas, they are very sensitive to spirits. Perhaps the spirits can help us persuade Delour to brave the storm and return to you."

Pulling a small linen pouch from a strap near his shoulder, Nsizi took out a small stone that was shaped roughly like a primitive animal. "Spirits, make this shine," he intones, and the stone began to glow. Passing it to Maso, Nsizi said, "Call again for your friend. I will help your voice to travel."

As the man held the stone aloft in the darkening storm and called for his cat, Nsizi asked the spirits, "Spirits, send his words afar, to his catta." The winds nearby changed imperceptibly, taking the man's voice with them. The storm winds raged unabated, but small gusts roamed here and there, taking with them a sense of home, and light.

casting light, guidance, and alter winds. I know I'm out of 1st level spells, but I'm going for it anyway, as it's a first time for that spell and it's not for combat. If our dear GM wants to rule against the spell working, then Nsizi will just bluff it. Hoping the cat senses the spirits and the light and comes a-runnin.

"When we were in here the other day," Min chided, "you told us you were looking for a gentleman friend. You're certainly not going to find one sitting out here in your shop when all the eligible bachelors are sitting in the Stone Hall with nothing to do but wish they could meet an open-minded mature woman who knows her way around a banana cream pie, are you? You know what people get up to during storms, when they can't leave the house. Imagine the romances that blossomed in Lirgen when the Eye of Abendego formed ... I mean, at least until the entire kingdom was destroyed and everyone either died or had to evacuate. But at least they had a good time in the meantime, eh? Except for the ones sitting around in their shops afraid of looters...." She shot Zeljka an imploring glance to back her up, afraid her digression into the sad fate of the Sodden Lands might have ruined the appeal.

Woot! first post!

As Nsizi comes upon Osbun and Maso the halfling is trying to reason with the man, but there were a number of unusual aspect to the discussion. First, while the two were standing in the rain they were not as wet as one would expect. During the conversation Osbun routinely and almost haphazardly gestured with his off hand at either himself or Maso and the one gestured at became completely dry, only to begin to get wet again from the falling rain. If this bothered or even surprised Maso he did not show it. And then there was the matter of the water that should be coursing around their feet. But it seemed to orderly flow around them as if it knew better to approach the two. You must listen to reason Maso, that cat of yours has better sense than either of us. He has found some place high and dry and is not going to vacate it just because we call for him. But I'll make you an offer. You know I tolerate the wet better than most folks, so if you will head for the shelter I will stay a while longer and look for Delour in all his normal hiding spots. What do you say?

Osbun looked pretty typical for a hafling, if a little on the young side. Brown hair of modestly long length covered his head and seemed as if it could not make up its mind to be either plastered to his forehead or dry as a summer day. His clothing has a sturdy out-of-doors look and were colored in shades of brown and yellow. when the rain and wind hit him just right you could tell that he wore some sort of light armor under that topcoat of his. And like many of his kind he choose to carry a cudgel in his right hand as a walking stick. As he gestured with his left hand a flash of something metallic caught what little sun was making its way through the cloudy sky revealing some piece of jewelry on his wrist.

Pausing to inhale Osbun spotted Nsizi and almost did a double take. He had been in the small town for months and had not seen one such as the oracle yet. But always ready to take advantage of a situation he calls out You there, could I get you to escort poor Maso here to shelter while I continue to look for Delour?

Unsure if rolls are needed here. If so Osbun is ready to assist in a diplomacy. :)

We're a little out of order for my bit. Maso seems to have agreed to leave before my sweet cat-catching spell, which totally would have worked. So, shall I edit the spell bit, and the new guy and I can climb trees hollering for a tabby for a while?
