fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Spirits forfend, is everything in this jungle venomous? Nsizi hoped that he was able to resist this creature better than he had the little dinosaurs.

The giant centipedes were all around - it was not difficult to reach out to one. Calling on the sky spirits that had once gifted him with their power - and lamed him in the process - he sent a course of electricity flowing through his fingertips.

The electrified centipede let out a squeal of pain beyond human hearing, and curled on the floor, chittering and smoking.

touch attack: 1d20 ⇒ 17 not sure what to add to this attack
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Shari - I think that's why no damage. The poison is probably a touch attack.

They won initiative, so they're attacking her flat-footed AC of 14.

Yes, this is correct.

The bite may do damage but it may not (1d4-2) but if it hits, the poison may still seep through. Small enough bite not to cause damage but still break the skin.

BTW, the door behind Min is open.

Zeljka felt the centipede trying to bite her. She shook it off but felt a stinging where it had tried to attach. Almost immediately she felt clumsier and off-balance when she tried to hack at the offending centipede.

I'll let you tell me what dex she loses.

Clumsily Min tried to bring down the end of her quarterstaff on the horrid little vermin but somehow failed to miss both of them as they writhed in separate directions. "Ugh! I say we let them have the kitchen and just shut the door!" She stepped backward out of the room. "Akosua, look out! There's one by your foot!"

Sorry to do this to you folks...but unfortunately, I'm finding myself severely lacking in time and energy for my current docket of PbP games, and this game's going at a fast enough clip (which is exciting!) that I feel guilty slowing you guys up. I am sorry to hear this but totally understand.

We'll have Alleria play second fiddle during the fort investigation and then she'll fade back into Pridon's Hearth.

And then there were four... :)

So... cleric, wizard, oracle, and slayer.

I think we're still pretty good as far as 'balance' and have all the major roles covered. In any case, part of the fun is dealing with any perceived lack of skill/resource.

We'll move on with you four unless you feel strongly about recruiting another person.

One thing I would consider is someone who was very enthusiastic (so-so would love this type of game) about playing with us. Now that you've all seen the type of game I like run (pace, RPing, etc.), let me know if someone fits this description.

Thoughts?

well, I have no BAB, and my str and dex are both +2, so that makes it a 19 to hit.

We'll miss you, Alleria! Hope you can come back and play soon!

Sorry to hear that Alleria, hope things ease up a bit, but I know how that life thing has a frustrating habit of infringing upon internet hobbies ;)

I think we can manage well enough, maybe pick someone up at a more natural point. I think most of the gamers I would recommend probably have overfull dockets at the moment. We probably do not need a fifth, but good to have for redundancy.

Min opened the door cautiously until she saw the centipede on the other side was dead. "I did suggest we all leave," she replied, "but I saw no point in continuing to allow it to bite me when I couldn't hit it. I'm not very good at hitting things with sticks."

"Dispensary-cum-kitchen, eh?" she remarked wryly when the medical supplies were discovered. "I can't say that sounds very sanitary. Still, when the pantry is infested with venomous centipedes, what's one one more bleeding head wound or suppurating blister in the mix?"

"That ought to be the watchtower, I suppose," she mused at the ladder to the trapdoor.

Nsizi chuckled, as he shook centipede goo from his iwisa. "Fair to say," he said, still laughing, perhaps a mite more than was warranted, "you did suggest we all go. Though perhaps an open door is easier to follow through. No, I am teasing," he laughed again, "be at ease, Bibi Dakhwitsi. I am merely anxious from all the fighting today. Action 1

"Oh, heavens." Min put a hand over her mouth at the gruesome sight, both to compose herself and to get control of her stomach. "That's one, two ... three?" she went on weakly. "Five still to account for? Which way did they come in?" She considered the doors in the walls, ceiling, and floor. "Is there any way of telling? How could they not have heard the door being smashed in? Who does paperwork at a time like that? Unless there was some document that had to be destroyed and not fall into enemy hands...."

Fabian - was my heal check last time enough to know if taking the antitoxin would help recover? It's not clear from the writeup about it.

As Min looked around the room, Nsizi moved towards the woman's body. "Spirits, grant her peace," he prayed, as he gently rolled her over. She had many wounds, and from the size of them, it was another spear. "Spears, again," he said, standing up. "One, many times, or several, I cannot be certain. I wonder if this print was made by one who took her life, or one simply passing through." Squatting, taking care not to drag his neswambi through the blood, Nsizi mused, "My size print, perhaps larger. But claws. Mjusi, almost certainly."

His brain mulling over this mystery, Nsizi picked his way through the rubble towards the walkway.

Seeing the small bodies, Nsizi immediately ran to them, thinking them children.

Zeljka will search what she can in this room before they leave. Or are you assuming that we search?

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

The half-orc waited for Nsizi to turn over the small bodies to get a better look at them. She didn't even realize she was holding her breath until he revealed they were halflings. Not that she expected children to be at the Fort but small, lifeless bodies would always stab at her heart as she was reminded of the loss of her own boys.

Nsizi wrote:

Yes, the heal check lets you know that taking the antitoxin while still fighting the poison (i.e., still making fortitude checks) will help.

Once the poison is no longer doing damage, the recovery of the ability scores can only be accomplished with time and/or lesser restoration and the like; that is the antitoxin will not help with that.

It seems that the attackers came from below.

BTW, I'm assuming you are checking for traps and taking 20 on perception unless you are prevented from doing so.

This means that each room takes approx 5 to 10 minutes to search. If you want to go faster than that, then let me know.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

After looking around the room, the half-orc was able to respond to Min. "They came in the same way we did. Which is even more odd that she didn't fight and just sat at the desk. It's easy to knock someone off a ladder from above. They were either really quiet or she knew her attacker."

To determine what kind of weapon decapitated her, is that just the heal check or can another check be done? You can't decapitate with a spear so there had to be another weapon used.

Fabian wrote:

So if there was anything important to find on the desk then we would have found it already?

Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Nsizi felt the world grow grey and misty, and he lost control of his body. A dark spirit, the likes of which he hadn't felt in a long time, entered in, screaming into his mind. Nsizi watched helplessly through his own eyes, as he reached down to one of the dead vidogo and pulled a bloody bolt free.

The voices in his mind shouted of pain, and loss and vengeance. He didn't understand the words, but the meaning was clear. Wanting nothing more than to end the pain, Nsizi took the bolt and thrust it into his chest with as much force as he could muster.

The spirit left, and the greyness swirled away, leaving only pain and confusion behind. Nsizi gasped, and pulled the bolt from his chest. Pressing his hands over the wound, he slowed the bleeding with his the folds of his neswambi. Shaking the confusion from his eyes, he turned to see how his companions had fared during the spiritual attack.

Why do say that?

In Actions 1, the haunt manifests and each PC either succumbs to it or not.

In Actions 2, the haunt ends (the spirits leave) and you are left to deal with the aftermath.

Is this clear?

Action 1:
will,DC13: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

As Zeljka was thinking about her family, she felt an overwhelming urge to take one of the bolts and impale herself with it thus allowing her to join her family in death. But she recognized these thoughts as being foreign and not her own which allowed her to shake them off. If she was going to end it, she would have done it months ago.

She watched in horror as some of the others began doing what she had just considered doing. She tried to stop them before damage could be done.

Is there any way that Zeljka can block any of the others from pulling out the bolts from the halflings and stabbing themselves? What kind of roll is she looking at? Grapple?

Action 2:

"What is going on? Is this why so many died without struggle? We should leave this place." Once she was sure the others were back in their right minds, she started for the east door, deciding to stay on this level.

Not really because the haunt manifests pretty much at the same time to all of you. So while you fought off the urges, others succumbed to the 'evil spirits'.

You can certainly roleplay taking the bolts out of the hands of those affected after they do damage to themselves. I guess Zelkja wouldn't know if those affected would stop after one stab or would continue to stab until they killed themselves.

Sorry again folks, had much more on than I was expecting this weekend, and had to start up a game I had been recruiting for. I must admit I am finding the format a little challenging, mostly because of having to go through so much to post and being rather sleep deprived at the moment because of project deadlines - though I should be back to a less pressing schedule on Tuesday all being well.

Will: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13 +2 if charm or compulsion, assuming it is a compulsion.

Seeing the tiny corpses Akosua's heart twisted in her chest, she felt herself compelled to move to them and to take their pain upon herself, even as she realized these were no true children. The alien nature of their chanting seemed to draw her in its jarring sibilance somehow soothing her natural fears and drawing her in. But as she clasped a bloodied arrow her birthmark warmed her, as if someone had gently caressed her flesh and she halted releasing her grip and stepping back breathing heavily kissing her fingertips and gently touching them to the leaf shaped mark over her eye.

"What was that? I share your instinct Zelkja, but if we leave it be this place will likely claim more through the years. We should at least pluck all the bolts from these bodies."

Then she called upon the power of her goddess, as much for the comfort of it as to heal her companions wounds. Then she stepped forward and steeling herself began to pluck the arrow shafts from the bodies breaking each in turn. That done she shook her head and moved to follow Zeljka.

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Will 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The pain in her side brought Min back to reality with a gasp. She threw down the bloody bolt with a clatter to the floor. "Surely that soldier didn't decapitate herself!" she wondered, pressing her hand to the wound to stanch the bleeding. More than ready to follow Zeljka away from this place, she waited impatiently on Akosua as far from the scene as possible.

I hate haunts. I never know how to react to them. They're designed to tell a story, but they always just seem to end up meaning taking damage and moving on because no PC rolls well enough to know what's going on.

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Zeljka doesn't have knowledge, religion so she can't roll to see what's happening. She's thoroughly confused at what's happening, that's for sure.

strange - the first time I opened the turn, there was a big chunk of text missing (it ended in mid sentence). But I just closed and reopened the browser, and there it was. Obviously the gremlin is on my end.

As Akosua rid the room of further weapons, Nsizi said, "I believe the spirits here are restless because they died in a holy place. These little gods are holding power here. If we are able to return, we should bury the dead. Bibi kuhani," he said, turning to Akosua, "are you able to make this place holy again? Perhaps tomorrow, if we survive today?"

Akosua shook her head, "I do not think so, I can perform blessings, but they are short of life. Magics that would make a place sacred, or call it back from taint are beyond what my goddess has been able to bestow upon my small vessel so far."

Is there any way that we can help you with the format? I find that it helps quite a bit with keeping things 'orderly'. Narrative, pics, maps, status, OOC comments are all kept in one place and updated.

It does require work on the GM's part but I enjoy it. All I'm asking is for you guys to keep up the posting (quality and frequency) but I understand if it's too much to read and post every day.

Anyway, let me know if there's anything in particular that you (or any one else) are having trouble with and I'll see what I can do.

Min waited for any jumpers to go first, then carefully balanced the plank across the gap between the parapets. "My brothers and I used to dare each other to climb out the second story hall window and walk the ridgepole of the kitchen roof," she confided, a mixture of nerves and exhilaration, "until Dex fell off and broke his ankle, anyway. Then my father nailed the window shut."

Turning her walking stick horizontally, like a tightrope walker in a traveling circus, she inexpertly crossed the plank, which shifted and wobbled beneath her rather alarmingly. When she safely reached the other side, she let out the breath she hardly realized she had been holding. "Well! That was a lot easier when I was ten!"
