Did we previously tell him the weapons or armor we wanted when we dropped off the Fort weapons or is this what we're doing now? Just wondering what approach I'm taking here...just picking up or requesting.

You are requesting now...

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Action 1:

Zeljka drew her blade and holding it open-handed she showed it to Vethorn. "While fighting the ogre yesterday, my blade was nicked on a piece of its bone. I was hoping you could fix it for me. Or forge a new weapon for me if that is easier."

Tag Vethorn

Action 2:

The half-Orc knew that Min had seemed quite interested in making herself known to the Count so she just remained silent and let Min provide the details about the Fort.

Action 3:

The jungle was the closest thing to forest that Zeljka would find down in Pridon's Hearth so she was more than happy to volunteer. "The lizardmen have caused Pridon's Hearth a lot of grief. I will go into the jungle to find out why they have become so hostile. I welcome help from others as well, especially if we're supposed to talk with them."

Action 1

Min has no use for a masterwork weapon so I presumed she wasn't going to the smithy, out of fear she'd miss the meeting with the count. Can she "bank" her 300 gp for another purpose? Or, alternatively, she'd be happy to provide a second masterwork weapon for Zeljka, perhaps a ranged weapon like a crossbow for when she can't close to use her falchion. It's her knack with weapons that's instrumental in keeping Min alive and casting.

Action 2

Before the meeting, Min did her best to get tidied up, within the limitations of the available time, space, and resources. She fastidiously washed her face and hands with soap and carefully re-twisted and pinned up her hair. She suffered a momentary twinge of remorse at appearing before the Count in trousers and boots, knowing her sisters-in-law would be aghast, but reasons that it would make her look rugged and capable and ready to pitch in and deal with any problems that might arise in a young colony (she hoped).

Entering the grounds of the Narsus estate, Min looked around with approval: spacious, but not ostentatious. She had butterflies in her stomach when she met the Count and his council, giving a light bow to Count Narsus and a polite nod to each of the others. Odd that he has a Banker in his inner circle and yet keeps a separate financial advisor, she thought. Perhaps she's a Druman; they're the only people I know who might out-profit an Abadaran. She had heard that Kalistocrats had unusual personal habits but had never actually seen one; she kept an eye on Hamsa Gadd out of curiosity.

Given the opportunity to address the Count, Min found her mouth suddenly dry and cleared her throat nervously before she began to speak. "We, er, we traveled to the fort at the behest of Sheriff Praet.... Well, you know that. Erm... we found the gates broken down and booby-trapped. Whoever did it intended to harm anyone who came to investigate. Some compys had wandered in, with the gate down, and gotten at the livestock and, well, a dead soldier and a dead acolyte of Abadar," she nodded an apology to the Banker, "who were left in the courtyard."

"We found another soldier dead at her desk, and, well... her head was missing. I don't understand why she would still be at her desk if the gate had been broken down; it must have made a racket. That was when we began to think that things weren't as straightforward as they appeared. And last night, the lizardfolk shaman who was calling down lightning had several heads at his belt. It seems to be a practice of theirs."

"It was then we found the first evidence that there were other victims at the Fort other than the people of Pridon's Hearth. There were two dead Song'o halflings in a sort of shrine."

"We found the commander dead in his bed and a note written in Taldane." She presented the note, somewhat bedraggled after all the times it had been rained on since leaving the fort, and passed it down the table toward the Count. "As you can see, it implicates the Song'o and intimates that they have a grudge with the colony over the river. We found one of the Song'o trapped in a room with a bookcase that had fallen on its door, however. He didn't speak Taldane and denied that his tribe had anything to do with the attack. He said they had noticed aggressive lizardfolk activity and had come to the fort to warn the soldiers when the lizardmen attacked."

"We found two more dead soldiers in a barracks. One had been, well... partially eaten, and the other had been decapitated. The final three bodies were in a training room, impaled and decapitated. We also found a severed hand in that room, not a human nor a halfling one. It was reptilian, with green scales, backing up the Song'o's statement about the lizardfolk... if their presence in town last night weren't evidence enough of their involvement."

"We buried the colonists at the Fort. We thought someone might like to place a memorial there," her gaze wandered to the Banker, "when events dictate, of course. They were among the first to give their lives in the line of duty for the sake of Pridon's Hearth and ought to be recognized for it. It would mean a great deal to their families and friends, as well as giving the rest of the colonists an example to strive toward."

"Oh!" she remembered, "and there was a frogman squatting there. Not that it seemed to have anything to do with the attack; like the compys, it was just taking advantage of the situation. But it's worth mentioning. When the fort is restaffed, the soldiers ought to be warned it might have moved back in in the interim."

"We're also concerned about the outlying farms, my Lord. We stayed with a very nice family with several children on the Muddy Road. If the lizardfolk have determined to drive the colonists away, they're surely in the most danger. If Pridon's Hearth hasn't the men to patrol the surrounding countryside regularly, perhaps you might consider issuing an evacuation order until this situation can be dealt with."

Min looked around the table as she was speaking, gauging the areas of expertise of Count Narsus's advisors. None of them looked particularly wizard-like. Perhaps there might be an opening for someone with arcane training. "Oh, and we killed an ogre who was looting in town yesterday," she concluded hopefully.

Action 3

Min was quick to back up the count's advisors. "You are far too important to the colony to risk, my Lord. The people need your expertise and guidance here, particularly as they rebuild from last night's storm."

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Action 2:

Min wrote:
"Oh, and we killed an ogre who was looting in town yesterday."

Zeljka was leaning against the back wall listening to Min recount their findings. The half-Orc softly grunted at the last comment but said nothing which sounded like a snort. 'We' killed the ogre? And why not mention the water creatures? Were they not impressive enough?. It's not like Zeljka personally needed the recognition but Min made it sound like it had been easy and considering the half-Orc had almost died during that fight, she would definitely have a differing opinion.

Zeljka Greenfoot wrote:

As Zeljka conferred with Vethorn about her weapon, Nsizi looked around the smithy, admiring the weapons and armour in various states of production, as well as all the more utilitarian items. He came to a straw-man, garbed in various bits of mismatched armour. Fingering the breastplate, Nsizi admired the craftsmanship.

"Do you have a breastplate that would fit me?" he asked. The studded leather armour he had taken from the fort was not entirely comfortable, and he could see that this would provide him with much better protection.

Can I have a MW breastplate? I can trade in the old armour too.

Nsizi nodded his head as he listened to Min's thorough retelling of their adventure at the fort two days ago. Only two days? Seems so much longer. As she mentioned meeting Mudhzuzi, the halfling squirmed uncomfortably at Nsizi's side. The Bas'o put a hand on his shoulder, squeezing it in support.

Realizing that the wizard had forgotten something, Nsizi said, "Also, we found a mjusi - a lizard person weapon. A terbutje, it is called. It was in the well, so perhaps they did not notice it when they left. A clue forgotten."

Turning to Muhdzuzi, he said, "Our friend, Muhdzuzi can answer any questions you have about the attack. I can translate for you."

FORT BREAKTHROUGH
The count was thoroughly impressed by Min. He flinched as she described the gruesome details.

He was very relieved when he heard about the ogre, "That brute chased me once. I'm glad he has been put to sleep."

The conversation turned to how they were going to tell the news to the colonists.

The count asked, "So you have no doubts that this attack was perpetrated by lizards then?"

"None, my Lord," she says firmly. "If the lizardfolk hadn't been in Pridon's Hearth last night, I admit that the evidence would be merely circumstantial. But when the town itself was attacked by lizardfolk bearing severed heads, that's an obvious indication who our enemies are."

Min was caught between her desires to suck up to the Council and to defend the meek halfling. "I defer to your greater experience in this part of the country, Ms. Gadd, but to my mind, it's hard to imagine Muhdzuzi being our enemy. He has had ample time to turn against us or sabotage the colony's storm preparations if that was his inclination. I don't deny that it's possible that the lizardfolk may have Song'o allies, but might they not possibly be a different tribe of Song'o? Pridon's Hearth can use any ally it can find at this point in its history; while we ought not to trust blindly, we ought certainly to seek peace with as many of our neighbors as are willing to coexist." She spoke in Taldane so as not to offend Muhdzuzi, determined to question the halfling about any other Song'o tribes in the area when they have left the meeting.

Action 1
When told that his meager contributions the night before had entitled him to his pick of weapons Oz was honored and thought long and hard about it. Tagging along with the others to go see the forge master he meekly waited in the back until the others were helped. When asked how he might be served Oz asked "Well, I am small so I would need a small weapon. But not too small as I do not wish the enemy to be right in my face. I am no warrior like Zeljka Greenfoot. So if I could request any weapon I would choose a longspear, but one sized for me. Is that possible??

Action 2 & 3?
Again standing in the back Oz listened to Min and grew more impressed with his new friends and all they had accomplished. He really had little to add and considered his contribution to small to mention. Towards the end of the discussion with the topic of the Song-o came up Oz spoke up saying "Its possible that I could be of help here, seeing how I share race with this group. Sometimes such things can help break down walls and allow for better communication. It would be my pleasure to also go on this trip and help as I may."

Oz will claim a potion of Cure Mod for his potion.

When the Count mentioned horses, the half-orc was skeptical. "Are there established roads that the horses can travel on? I'm all for seeing the Witterwils again. I'd like to check on them with everything that's been going on."

He twirled his mustache and then added, "But I also understand that there are Ghol-Gan ruins in the area and would be interested in anything tied to this civilization. I'm more of a broker if you will. I find the artifacts and sell them to prospective buyers."

The halfling shivered at the thought, "No, it cannot be true. We are very peaceful and would not attack."

He looked at the map, "The area between the two rivers is claimed by my tribe but we don't have a set location. We travel light and go where we please. But I know the area where we had settled last and can take you there. It's here, east of the colony."

Presuming that Min either drops in on the conversation or is told about it later...

"The lizardfolk tried to frame your tribe for the attack on the fort," Min reminded the Song'o quietly in Polyglot. "Perhaps they could have deceived Ms. Gadd's party in a similar way, especially as it was dark when they were attacked. We may have been looking at this incorrectly, assuming the lizardfolks' target was the colony. What if they are merely attempting to coopt the colony's resources to direct them against the Song'o?" She knelt down so as not to tower over Muhdzuzi. "Could the lizardmen - the mjusi - have some grudge against your people? Disagreements about territorial boundaries or hunting grounds, or even some ancient feud your peoples tell stories about?"

Mr. Balckwell

Mr. Blackwell cocked his head and thought for a second before answering, "Well, one of the reason I came here is to try and establish a new business venture. I propose to take goods manufactured by the local tribes or whatnot and sell them in civilized markets."

He twirled his mustache and then added, "But I also understand that there are Ghol-Gan ruins in the area and would be interested in anything tied to this civilization. I'm more of a broker if you will. I find the artifacts and sell them to prospective buyers."

He tried to anticipate their questions, "You will be compensated for anything you bring back. But I need to see it and determine its value. How does that sound?"

"I'm not entirely certain we have the authority to make an arrangement like that, Mr. Blackwell," Min mused. "If we're exploring on behalf of the colony, Count Narsus may have right of refusal on anything of value we find. Let me make some inquiries as to the legality of the situation."

If Blackwell objects strenuously, Min will find his behavior suspicious. Otherwise, she'll ask the Sheriff and the Banker to clarify who owns anything that may be discovered.

after Muhdzuzi's response

"If you are certain it was not your tribe, then this woman is lying, or wrong. It is hard to believe that a person fighting could confuse a mjusi with a vidogo. Even in the dark. But perhaps if she was hiding, or unconscious..." Nsizi shook his head. "This becomes more strange all the time."

The heat rules say that you take the same negative no matter what armour you're wearing, so I'll go with the breastplate for the extra AC. Hopefully the rain keeps up.

You can always insert yourself into a scene in my games. I guess there would be exceptions but I can't think of any right now. :)

Mudhzuzi shook his head vigorously, "No, my people are peaceful and would not war against them. We would relocate. We value other aspects of beings."

He tried to remember, "I have heard it say that in the past a violent leader will arise among the lizardmen and these leaders will corrupt a tribe. Otherwise, lizarmen are good nieghbors."

Mr. Blackwell scoffed at the notion, "Well, unless you find a cyclops who can trace back his lineage to the Ghol-Gan, I would say that 'finders keepers' is the law."

He added, "In fact, the Aspis Consortium out of Bloocove work in much the same way so I see no reason why it would be different here. Savages are savages and jungle is jungle, right?"

He had learned enough to know her last name, "Miss Cicensis, if you and your companions are uncomfortable with this request, I can always send my own men out there. I just thought that since you are already going..."

"Hm." Min gave Nsizi a smirk. "I suppose it's too much to hope for that the shaman we killed last night was their violent leader and they'll settle down now that he's dead?"

"This is not Bloodcove, Mr. Blackwell," Min answered firmly. "My colleagues and I have been deputized by the authorities of Pridon's Hearth and tasked with exploration by Count Narsus himself. The colony is providing the map, mounts, and supplies. We are not freelancers and, as such, are not at liberty simply to assume that anything we find while conducting the colony's business is ours to dispose of as we wish."

"It sounds as if your men are under no such strictures; perhaps it would be better if they went themselves, as you suggest. I feel quite certain that, given that you are employing them and giving their orders, you would not look kindly on any agreement they entered into to offer any valuables they find to someone else first."

After taking a better look at the map, Zeljka agreed with the sheriff. "It looks like we'll have a lot of ground to cover. Horses would be best. That way, we can also check on the Witterwils."

Oz looked a little pale at the mention of horses. "I, well, its just that I have not actually ever been on a horse. I am sure I can ride. I mean how hard can it be, right? It not like horses are all that large or scary, right?

Nsizi smiled down at the halfling. "Have no fear, my friend. We can help you. Perhaps the Witterwills have a pony for you."

Turn 051 – Mr. Blackwell

Read the OOC.

Questions, comments, and/or suggestions?

Game on!

Action 1

Nsizi shook his head with a smile. "I wish we could. But there was more trouble in town, more lizard-men. We are to go into the jungle, to find the reason. We have come to see if you have horses we could buy."]

Action 2

perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 so close....

Alarmed, Nsizi said, "Should we not go to help this ship right away? There could be people who are hurt or dying. How far to this shipwreck? We should leave immediately!"

Female half-orc Slayer/7

Action 1:

The children's expectant faces caused fixed feelings for Zeljka. She really wanted to stay - to work, to help, and to protect. But searching out the hostile lizardfolk was the best way to guard the citizens of Pridon's Hearth which meant she couldn't stay. "Sadly, Nsizi is correct. Hopefully I'll be back once we put an end to the troubles."

When Nsizi mentioned the horses, the half-orc added, "And maybe a pony for our new friend Oz."

Action 2:

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

As Zeljka moved around Pridon's Hearth, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. Since it was continuous, she had to conclude that they were being followed.

The news about the ship was distressing but she didn't want to leave the settlement until she had seen the smithy. "We need to go to help but I have to get my weapon first. Without my blade, I can't protect anyone." And we'll need protection if whoever is following us is unfriendly.

Can she tell anything about who is watching/following them?
