Apologies, everyone. Have been doing inventory at work, and my supervisor is out of commission with an injury, so have been picking up more hours. Need some extra time to get into the thread, so bear with me please, and move me forward as necessary for the game to continue.

Haka Thunderfoot |

Just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend I will be leaving to go here for work. I will be gone 2-3 weeks, and my internet connection will be very spotty indeed, and I’ll be on a very different time zone as well.
I will post when I’m able, but if I’m holding things up, feel free to bot me as needed.

Haka Thunderfoot |

Going for work, and will be quite busy the whole time. But I don't want to sound like I'm complaining about being sent to paradise - I'll have a day or two off while I'm there, and the snorkeling is unbelievable. There's basically one road on the island, and if you pass someone coming the other way, you wave and they wave. And there's a spot on the road where you have to really slow down at night, to avoid crushing the many fist-sized hermit crabs crossing the road.
So it's business, with a bit of pleasure involved.

The Elusive Trout wrote:This may be the best way to go, as our drumming dancer isn't much of a flautista. Currently, he can't make the DC for the out-of-body jaunt, but he could pick up truesight 70% of the time.
Alternately, the party's sponsor would probably reward them heavily for this find.
Actually, you could make it on a 20 since the flute is considered masterwork (+2 circumstance bonus to the perform check.) Although maybe it should go to Kanthya after all.

Haka Thunderfoot |

I took that into account to get to 25 - but didn't notice that the number ranges for the different effects overlap - so I thought the highest range was 26-30, because the one below it ended at 25.
But I'd say you're right, and I'll give it to Kanthuun if he'd like it.

Kanthuun |

Kanth, it has to do with letting the item regain power. So, not really, no.
Makes sense. :)
What would Kanthuun do with a flute? Drop it, possibly. I suppose Perform (untrained) is pretty high with my Cha.

Rohini Soni |

You know, since everyone is pretty reluctant about the flute, maybe Rohini should take it. She has a 17 Charisma, so has a decent untrained bonus, and she could take a level in perform if we don't decide to give it to our sponsor, whoever that is. And the +2 WIS bonus would actually be useful for her (DCs, an extra 2nd and eventually 6th level spell). I think Rohini was thinking of taking a CHAR increase too, to get an extra channel a day.
What do we know about the history of the item and its former owner? It isn't evil, right?

Haka Thunderfoot |

Once again, I completely forgot about the Wis bonus from the flute. As he moves to pass the magical instrument to Kanthuun, Haka will yank his hand back and bestow the flute upon Rohini, who will use it more skillfully, and to the benefit of the party. And if she takes a Cha bump, as well as some perform ranks, she'll be decent with the flute, and could use it for true seeing while she's hanging back doing her mighty buffs. I think that makes a lot of sense, and the Song of the Spheres, patron deity of musicians, would likely agree, if I may presume.
And what Haka was able to recall of the history of the item and its creator - assuming this is the flute that belonged to the guy who wrote the sad song for his granddaughter - is that he was not evil at all. He was caring and loving, and met a sad end. See here for a recap.

Rohini Soni |

Good point about Desna, Haka. While music is actually within the portfolio of Shelyn, Desna has many musicians among her worshipers, so it is a good fit. I think it is also nice that travelers are within Desna's portfolio, and Obleyth insisted his daughter was wandering. And Rohini herself is a bit of a lost wandering daughter.
And thanks for the reminder about Obleyth's story. Haka will have to help Rohini learn the song. Do we know where Obleyth was from? Do we know why the Tian sponsor would have a particular interest in the flute?
Rohini may end up wanting to keep the flute -- there is the WIS synergy and, although the true seeing abilities are somewhat circumstantial, it might be quite useful if we keep on fighting daemons who like to turn invisible.
Any other thoughts on this?

Talon Skyfall |

It is a really good flute. I think we should hold onto it. And if Rohini could learn to use it, it would be better on her.

Haka Thunderfoot |

Now that Haka has the scholar's ring, he may be able to come up with more of the history on the flute and its original owner, and could always legend lore it when we're not so busy.
I think Rohini keeping the flute is quite a good fit. At the risk of speaking for our resident Trout, I expect she said our sponsor would be interested because he works at a college of magic - but I don't imagine they'd pry it out of Rohini's long, slender fingers.
And Haka would be happy to teach Rohini the lullaby wizard's song, and provide a little backbeat.

The Elusive Trout |

Oi, oi! Sugar Ray madness goes in here while I do my homeworks! alssoooo....
My friggin' teacher that I love rewarded me for being the only student at a class by giving me homework no one else was responsible for. -__-
Ah, well. Back to the drawing board.
I'll make you guys a post soon.
:)
Sorry to troll you with the flume, but I did want to know how you would manage.

Rohini Soni |

Well, we do need to figure out if the yamah are coming along. But I thought the most immediate thing was for Talon to decide if he's exploring the scream. If the party agrees leaving the yamah behind doesn't make sense (but we'd need sometimes to be able to make them invisible to bring them along), then I don't need to decide yet about the sending spell.

The Elusive Trout |

Silly Rohini. Talon can't explore a scream. He can only investigate it. XD
Oh, but I see what you mean. I was only at a pondering stage because normally my long day at school (this is my break, then back to the grind) is the one where I come back and there's un monton de cosas.
:-)
Be that as it may, I can streamline that process. The scream was more for flavor than anything. If Talon decides to look, he won't be able to find anything, because it was a newly-fallen petitioner and he has already been eaten by a caco.
Inn't that neat?

Haka Thunderfoot |

Y'all - we missed Trout's birthday! I think it was yesterday, per her post in another game we're in, but I just landed in Japan, and I'm not at all sure what day it is.
In any case - happy one, truchita!

Talon Skyfall |

Oh I didn't know that. Happy Birthday!

Haka Thunderfoot |

Nope, but the most delicious fish I've ever eaten are the ones I caught myself.
I'd agree, but add that the bestest fish I ever ate was the one caught by my son. Tasted great, and he couldn't have been more proud.

Talon Skyfall |

Yea, we are.

The Elusive Trout |

Mrowr. Okay, here goes-
Hanethes, feel free to react in a spoiler in that time if you choose, otherwise I'll assume you've gone back to the others in one piece.
Haka-Still with us in here?I gave you a spoiler a while back, but it isn't necessarily important at the moment.

Haka Thunderfoot |

I'm still here, sorry. I got to Guam last night, where there's reliable internet, but missed the spoiler in trying to get caught up. Rota is lovely and peaceful, but my computer went on a little vacation from the internet while I was there.

Talon Skyfall |

Or a twist?

Rohini Soni |

Hey! Rohini won't tolerate any attempts to put her through any tests. You already know she's a changeling, but she's been nothing but nice to all of you. And, perhaps to overcompensate for her green hag background (like succubi, green hags are known to seduce victims by treachery), and despite Talon's early efforts, Rohini is quite unflirtatious, although inherently quite appealing.

Talon Skyfall |

If anything, your unwillingness to flirt is a sign of overcompensating and you really are a succubus. I mean no one can resist Talon, not even Yamah's it seems. :)

Talon Skyfall |

And her status as a succubi was never confirmed either.
