Wanted: Explorers!
Are you brave and true? Does the prospect of exploring a far off frozen frontier intrigue you? Do you wish to leave your mark in the annals of history?

Northwind Trading Co. is recruiting brave adventurers to embark upon the Winter Morn on Saturday, the 23rd of Firstmonth. (Saturday for you real-lifers) The ship departs in the evening.

Prospective adventurers should bring a resume of their current exploits. (completed stat block)

Cold weather gear will be provided. Treasure aplenty to be had.

---

Ability Scores - 25 point buy. Nothing lower than an 8.

Races - The following races are not allowed: Aasimar, Catfolk, Drow, Fetchling, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Kobold, Orc, Tiefling, Gillmen, Gipli, Kitsune, Merfolk, Nagaji, Samsaran, Strix and Wayang.

Classes - Any Paizo (including ACG) except for ninja and samurai. Master Archetypes that produce a large amount of creatures are also not permitted for ease of game play.

Level - 1

Wealth - Average for starting character and you get a free cold weather outfit.

Traits - Two, you may take one drawback. Only one from each category.

Domain Spellcasters - There are no gods. Select two domains instead.

---

Rules from the Ultimate Campaign (exploration) are being used, as is Mythic Adventures but only in the late game.

Questions can be asked below.

The campaign begins hours before landing in Skolderang, your destination. The Winter Morn is scheduled to arrive in a region known as the Geisar Breach, a coast within a series of fjords sheltered from the harsh climate.

The list of races not allowed is rather extensive. Is it meant to be only CRB races? Or are other races that are published but not in that list allowed?

Other races are permitted, for example the Suli, Ifrit, etc.

Hm, I do love me some nordic adventuring!

Could you give us a little more info on the setting? No gods is fine by me but it does tell us we definitely aren't in golarion anymore.

The goal at least initially is exploration, what follows? Are we setting up an outpost, claiming territory, or more likely to get embroiled in the local goings on? I'm just curious what I'd be getting myself into?

Wyrwood?

Count me in...

Gun rules?
Multi-classing rules?
Paizo has all core and base classes?

Also, count me in, since I wasn't accepted into the crown campaign, I'll just be transfering my character over to this campaign, with a few minor changes, since this is 25 buy points instead. Plus this is a character I wanted to play.

It's a custom setting, the region hasn't been explored hence the lack of actual knowledge about the region.

Guns are emerging and aside from ninja and samurai all classes are fine.

As for your actual goal, you are simply getting out there to explore while others have been tasked with setting up an outpost there. It's quest based as you will be able to pick up requests in town.

This looks rather fun! Submitting Curden Craw, a human gunslinger, for your consideration, information under his profile. Always love feedback!

Works for me!

I take it overly detailed backgrounds aren't as important here, more about your actions once we're dumped in the frozen north?

I take it there is an appropriately nordic themed area where my character might be from? Details aren't that important, just checking to make sure you're not looking for more fish-out-of-water types?

Thinking I might give the Bloodrager a shot actually.

Sure, never seen someone play one before.

And overtly details aren't required, your actions will speak for themselves. And fish out of water is more the idea, but you can be from the northernmost regions of the "mainland" if you so wish.

so is my character approved?

I check all characters and make a final decision before game starts.

I should rephrase that. Is he legal?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What I was thinking was that whoever organized the expedition would have bought a wooden golem as a resource (the whole not sleeping and being an object and not freezing thing).

Imagine everyone's surprise when they activate it and not only does it talk, it asks why it should do something when told to do it. :)

Everything checks out. I'd just ask that character stat blocks be ordered as a standard monster entry. If not exactly, at least in the same order. It saves me a lot of time when I need to look up stats and everything.

As well, for skills, I appreciate them having in brackets the modifiers, ranks, etc so I can calculate them.

And you did great for the bonus feat in putting in bonus feat.

If you really want to have the perfect character sheet for me, it would be something like this:

Sheet of some guy

One of a kind? I can work with that you little animated freak of nature you.

I've updated Curden to your preferred formatting style. Any thoughts on him, crunch-wise or flavor-wise?

Love the background, perhaps Lia could be found out in the north... or at least the fates may know what happened to her.

Also, I will be selecting four PCs only.

Yeah, as a DM myself I know what a big carrot missing family members are. Makes for all sorts of fun interaction!

Also, disclaimer, I have never played a gunslinger or any other sort of gun-wielding character before. As such I might not be 100% solid on some of the rules, although I shall read them madly to get a better understanding. From what I can tell so far they have very large damage potential but at great monetary cost and some risk since guns can break.

Now I just need to come up with a class that fits a unique golem that's not something I'm playing now. :)

Bard, Cavalier, Cleric, Fighter, Inquisitor, Magus, Oracle, Ranger, Summoner, Witch, Wizard

EDIT : Oh, and Druid, forgot about Druids, not playing one of those right now. Oh lol, that Elf archetype that has a bush companion. :) A wooden golem followed around by a bush, in the snow. :)

Would love to get Trelck back into action his ROW game died. Updated his stats for the buy, everything else should match. Will reformat CS if I get accepted if that is okay...

Damn, no Tiefling....I was hoping to resurrect Rodrigo from our last game.

What are elves like in this game world? Are they also aliens from another plane with all black eyes like they are in Golarion?

Appearance-wise, races look as they do on Golarion.

Fluff wise though?

Can I play an android? Discovered when it bumped into the Winter Morn whil floating in a piece of ice? With no memories of who made it or where it came from?

Hmm, ok, looking it over, it appears that Wyrwood are hard to heal. :) My only options are :

1) Inquisitor with Healing Judgement (not very good)
2) Cleric/Oracle/Sorcerer/Wizard with Infernal Healing

Infernal healing is the only way to heal them at 1st level. So, question for the GM, are you ok with a Neutral Construct casting an [evil] spell and not having it affect his alignment since he doesn't have a soul to corrupt?

Whats the limit on number of players?

Thrun wrote:

Winterbones said 4 PCs, here. Usually a bunch of people submit characters and then the DM chooses a few from amongst them after recruitment closes.

I'll allow Android only because I've never had someone play one before.

The androids are more like the androids from Aliens than Data from Star Trek. They are organic, require food, water, and air, and age and die. So, it's probably easier to think of them as an organic clone replicant than an actual android.

Sweet...Android alchemist incoming.

And the infernal healing on the wyrwood? I'm leaning toward a Sage Sorcerer...

mdt wrote:

I'll allow it, should make for some fun soul vs not having a soul arguments. Strangely enough this may be important later on.

Sounds fine, I'll look him over.

Since there are no traits that are going to match the backstory, are you ok with re-fluffing the traits? As long as they have the same mechanics, so that they fit the background?

Refluffing is fine, just no mechanical tweaking

Here's what I've got so far. There are surprisingly few male avatars with intricate blue tattoos. I'll only post with this alias once, in case I need to reuse it if I don't get picked. In the future I'll link to it. I'll finish the rest of the character after work tonight.

-DM Jelani

And here is Tik'klik. I'll build an avatar if he's chosen, I just spent as much as I could of his 70gp, and then tossed the rest. Doesn't make sense he'd have starting cash. I'll post a background soon, not that it can be all that long (given he's being woken up when the game starts). :)

It's basically a cheap man's arcane trickster. He has Disable Divice and Trapfinding (including Magical Traps), is a Sage bloodline sorcerer (uses Int for spellcasting), and is equipped for dangerous icy conditions (right down to retractable skates in his feet).

Tik'Klik Background:

Deep in the crafting lab of Dominick Revith, Master Golem Crafter

"OH MY GOD! Master Revith is going to kill us both!" Tansy Revith breathed, as the rose quartz crystals that were supposed to be the 'brain' of the golem finally stopped tinking on the flagstone floor of the shop. It had taken awhile for them to stop, as they had gone from one large crystal to a few million shards.

Her brother, Mils, was pale as he looked at what he'd done. That crystal was the last of the crystals, and this golem was a rush job for a very important noble. He'd been told not to touch the crystal, but the magic thrumming in it had been almost siren in it's humm. "Oh god! Grandpa's going to skin me alive... He'll turn me into a flesh golem!" Mils panic'd, overly so, given his grandpa was not in the habit of making such things.

Tansy fluttered, her face nearly as pale as Mils. "I'll get blamed too you know! I told you not to touch it!" She drives her fist into her brother's shoulder hard enough to leave a bruise and generate a cry of pain. "What are we going to do?"

Mils bites his lip in pain and thinks as hard as he's ever thought in his life. Then his eyes widen. "What about that sapphire crystal that Grandma keeps sealed up in her lab? The one she found in the old ruins that she said she couldn't figure out who made it or what for? If we put it in the golem, and then seal the head up, we can tell Grandpa it we helped by sealing the head, and we'll not only not get in trouble but we'll get praised for helping on a rush project!"

Tansy stops, opening her mouth to say what a stupid idea, but then stops and thinks as well. "But... what if it doesn't work? We don't even know it is a golem control crystal. It could be a power stone."

Mils groans. "If it doesn't work, we're not in much more trouble than we are already, and if it does, we're out of trouble. I'll clean up, you go get the crystal!"

Tansy looks unconvinced, but then nods. "Ok, fine, it's worth a try. And Grandma hasn't looked at it since we were like, 5, so I doubt she'll notice it's gone before we're 20."

Twenty minutes later, the shards of rose quartz were gone, dumped into cursed bag of holding Grandpa kept around for disposing of dangerous magical artifacts.

The two apprentices struggle to get the blue sapphire, which is a dodecahedron to fit into the head chamber of the small wooden golem which was layed out for the rose quartz octahedron. They end up having to add in some additional connectors and mithral mounts to get it in and stabilized, but finally it pulses with a cold steady blue light, much as the former rose quartz pulsed with a warm steady pink light.

Then they go about sealing the head, finishing the delicate connections as quickly as they can. When the final seal is complete, the golem's sensor crystal, a long rhombus of onyx, rotates in it's socket 3 times, and the golem's mouth opens. "Tik'klik" It says, then the body goes back to not moving.

"I never heard a golem talk before... are you sure this is ok?" Tansy asks, sounding nervous.

"It wasn't talking, it just clicked it's mouth is all. You know grandpa said golems sometimes twitch when they are first sealed up." Her brother says, although his tone sounds like he's convincing himself as much as her.

The sounds of a large man approaching down the hallway send the duo scrambling to not look guilty when their Grandpa comes in, ready to seal up the golem he finds already sealed and humming with magic in standby mode.

I'm running into an issue finishing Dorian. I get 105 GP as an alchemist, and to make my extracts etc I need an alchemy crafting kit, which is 25 GP. That means I don't have enough money left over for a bow and armor (not to mention anything else that would be useful on an arctic expedition).

Would it be possible to get the alchemy kit for free, or to waive the requirement that I have it to use my class features?

Edit:I also feel like I'm forced to buy it right now, since an alchemy crafting kit is not something we're likely to come across out in the tundra.

Edit edit:Nevermind, I'm just going to use crappy primitive weapons for now I guess.

Grand Lodge

There are other things that go bump in the night that also do not have soul and are still slowly corrupted by evil spells :)

Most of those things don't have souls because they already gave them up to go bump in the night. :)

Grand Lodge

Why did i just had images of Alphonse from Fullmetal Alchemist manga coming from Tik'Klick?

:)

Ah, but Alphonse had a soul. It was attached to his armor. He was missing a body. :) But other than that, yes, Tik'Klik would operate much like he did, a thinking object.

So it is indeed you Pinocchio... i have found you at last... Its me gepeto (Once upon a Time: TV)
