Into the Blue: Spellgard II

Game Master Rev Rosey

This was Sleeper in the Tomb of Dreams toned down for a lower level group.
The characters were the ongoing players from Scepter Tower.

Apologies for the delay - classes started today and were adorned with a higher than usual trauma count.

Even though he can't take full advantage of the opening offered to him by Caine, Leo still manages to claw himself back into the fight, blasting divine power into B2 and bringing it to the clear brink of destruction.

The berserks fight on. B1 tries to hit the gallant bard, but his muse must be protecting him as the claws slide harmlessly off his armour.

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit makes secondary attack +12 v Fort B1 v Erik (1d20+18=20, 2d6+5=8)

B2 keeps its attention on Leo, digging talons into the paladin's mail coat. Something in the half-elf's stance diverts it and it cannot follow through with any more damage.

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit makes secondary attack +12 v Fort B2 v Leo (1d20+18=26, 2d6+5=8). 8hp damage to Leo. Makes secondary attack.
Blueflame Claw (Fort). Secondary attack B2 v Leo (1d20+12=13)

B3 turns gleefully to answer Leo's challenge, adding to the damage he has already taken. To his horror, Leo feels his body chill and change as the firy blue that envelops the berserk seeps once more into his own body.

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit makes secondary attack +12 v Fort B3 v Leo (1d20+18=29, 2d6+5=11). 11hp damage to Leo. Total damage 19hp. Gets secondary attack.
Blueflame Claw (Fort) - secondary attack B3 v Leo (1d20+12=23)

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit makes secondary attack +12 v Fort B2 v Leo (1d20+18=26, 2d6+5=8)

Snaggle quickly moves to behind one of the berserkers and stabs deeply into its side.

Male Kobold Rogue 6

Snaggletooth, as his opponent falls, looks across at the other berserker and says, "I hope you more fun than this one." and smiles a grim smile. "But I think not. You too dumb to fight good." and then, sticks his tongue out at his foe.

here's hoping that pisses the berserker off and gets him to concentrate on me some. I haven't hardly been hit this fight. Of course, I've gone out of my way to make it so, but still, I feel bad when Caine has only three surges left.

Snags has been worth his weight in gold in this fight. These are not nice opponents and it's been tougher than it should have been because the madman got three or four rounds to keep summoning.

The glowing monstrosity looks at Snaggletooth, as though memorising him for special attention.

Male Kobold Rogue 6

well, the +14 (w/CA) helps and that I haven't rolled less that a ten for a while. crap! I probably just jinxed myself.

With a song of battle on his lips he attempts to sink his blade into the berserk that's been trying to claw at him.

Right, sorry Rev, forgot about that. Updated hit points to reflect the damage too. The force damage bloodies me, but I manage to shake it off.

"Sorry about this Snaggletooth but I think this is as good a time as any to use this... WRATH OF THE GODS!" Leo hollers at the top his voice as a silvery aura emanating from him extending to cover himself, Perigia and Caine before subsiding once more.

Wrath of the Gods daily utility power, minor action to use, close burst of 1 centred on Leo has the effect of granting leo and any ally in range a damage bonus until the end of the encounter equal to Leo's Charisma modifier of +3.

"Okay lets see how you like this!" Leo tells his opponent as he cuts loose another holy strike on his opponent.

d20+11 vs AC: 17+11 for a total of 28 to hit doing 1d8+7 radiant damage and the +3 from Wrath of the Gods: 4+7+3 for 14pts of radiant to Berserk#3, you know I really do hope that hits!

Leo's attack takes the berserk by surprise, and it cannot avoid the paladin's blade. Yes, it hits.

B1 turns its lascivious attention to Erik, ignoring the screaming blue horror that is Brujo behind him. The bard can't avoid the dragging claws, nor the trail of blue infection that follows them.

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit B1 gets secondary attack +12 v Fort B1 v Erik (1d20+16=32, 2d6+5=11). 11hp damage to Erik. B1 gets secondary attack.
Secondary attack (Fort) B1 v Erik (1d20+12=29)

Dripping blue ichor, B3 shifts and claws at Perigia, allowing Leo's holy flame to bloody it in the process. Perigia's armour isn't quite good enough to protect her and to her horror, tendrils of blue run into the wound.

Blueflame Claw (AC). On hit B3 makes secondary attack +12 v Fort B3 v Perigia (1d20+16=21, 2d6+5=13). 13hp damage to Perigia, B3 makes secondary attack.
Secondary attack (Fort) B3 v Perigia (1d20+12=19).

I assume it was bloodied by the damage it took by attacking Perigia whilst divine challenged by leo?

Yes. It was one shy of bloodied with your attack. The divine challenge did the job.

Nice still kicking myself for not using Wrath of the Gods immediately, but I did note it only adds to damage rolls though

You weren't to know this was going to turn into quite such a bloodbath. I admit to being surprised myself. I honestly thought you'd be through this in a couple of rounds, but the madman really scuppered that for you.

Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc

Even as he's raked for even more damage, Erik sends out a song of encouragement toward's Leo to bolster the paladin.

Free Action: Virtue of Valor on Leo for bloodying B3; Leo gains 4 temporary hit points.

I was surprised no one tried finishing off the madman sooner. I believe Snaggletooth bloodied him in the very first round. Oh well. We'll live.

No ranged attacks except for Eyebite unfortunately and can't stack temp hp since Leo still has 8 from Caine's last effort maybe add them to Snaggletooth or Brujo?

Those temp hp can't be tranferred. They're a class power. Whenever one of Erik's allies bloodies or takes a foe to 0, that ally gains temp hp. Aren't bards nice to have around?

sorry to be a pill, Erik, but shouldn't I have gotten something for killing B2 last turn?

Snaggletooth winces and swears in Draconic and takes 5 force damage

Draconic

Spoiler:

Stupid @#$%^ Monsters and their @#$%# stupid Blue Flames. I swear I am going to kill each and every one of these @#$%^% godless @#$#^ers.

He looks at the Mangler and says one word, "Later." and holds up one finger. Then he shifts away and moves to attack the wounded berserker, hoping to finish him off.

minor, shift to N13, move- M13, L13, K12, K11, L10, riposte strike on B3, +14 vs AC, 23, if hit, 3+4+5+6+3= 21 hp damage and set up interrupt

"Remember me?" Snaggletooth asks the berserker as he grabs him from behind and stabs deep into his neck. The kobold then says, "I told you I would kill you next...." and then he falls back and watches for a counterattack.

Male Kobold Rogue 6

oops! forgot, save=13, whew! total damage is 13 hp. new total= 33

Erik Annadar wrote:

I've been saying for 700 posts, that we are range attack poor. Even more so with Mirth gone. A ranger or warlock could have taken the madman out in a round of two. Without my first strike ability, I would've needed him to be flanked before I could SA him again. But live and learn.

Male Human Bard/Warlord/Warlock/Circus Monkey/Soda Jerk/Etc

Leo didn't have any temps in his status so I assumed he was still clean. Just pretend it didn't happen I guess. It's impossible for me to keep track of everyone's HP at the moment. I'm just going to have to start keeping my own separate notes for the entire party or switch out my class feature. I'm finding this ability too hard to maintain in a PBP with this many people.

Snaggletooth, I already gave out some temps last turn. I can only do it once a round.

Erik chooses valor over self-preservation and takes a swing at B1, using the vibrations of the songblade to leave an opening for Brujo.

Standard Action: Guiding Strike vs. B1; 29 vs. AC for 10 damage and B1 takes a -2 penalty to AC until the end of my next turn.

My bad. I thought Leo had already used up the temp hp from Caine. With this many effects kicking in, it's tricky keeping track. I'll see if I can find a neater way to help you all.

Snaggletooth's blade bites deep and the blow warns B3 that any further attacks on knee-height kobolds will meet with severe reprecussions.

Erik's blow offers a similar warning to B1 as his songblade hums with a note that shears through the monstrosity's defenses. It seems as if only the blue flame is holding B1 together.

IC is being wierd for m this morning. Perigia instictively lashes out with fire as the berserker hits her. Then she takes a step back and blasts him with another magic missile.

Firepulse as an immediate reaction to being hit. 1d20+5=16 to hit vs. Ref. If she hits it is 8 fire damage. Shift backward 1 space and casts Magic Missile at the guy that just hit her. 1d20+8=18 vs. Ref to hit and it does 12 force damage. I think my luck may have run out.

Rev just looked at the map. Though Brujo flanking B1 is nice he shifted to F11 last turn to get away from it, and to use Changing Ray this turn.

Leo's blow hits the berserk and allows the servant of Kelemvor to draw on his healing powers of revival. They do not, unfortunately, extend to preventing the concussive aftereffects to be repulsed.

"Well I do have to say you're much better at this than your friend here, whats his problem can't hit unless their backs turned and prone?" Leo asks the Mangler in a friendly tone as the berserk turns to head after Perigia.

"Hey Snaggletooth is it just me or has our new acquaintance here got an unfriendly interest in Perigia?" Leo asks Snaggletooth as the Berserk makes the classic error of ignoring the most dangerous member of the party...
