So with the map the way it is, going to buildings further off is going to mean you don't have a shot - none of the buildings are more than a story or two high, so you wind up losing the line of sight as you make the angle of of the shot lower and lower.
And I just meant going shot-for-shot against SF monsters is tricky, especially when they typically have higher to-hit and hit points than your average PC.

Jink_ |

Jink would be prone, or at least not standing on a roof, part of trying to hide. I did forget to mention this. That takes my KAC to 18. I am outside of 70ft from the gasbag, and as it used it's move action to fly, it can't use it's move action to steady it's rifle, which means it should be firing into it's second range increment, which should give it a -2 and it misses.
If it has some rules I am missing then ignore the above, or if the -2 is already included, or if the weapon has a native range that can hit me.

The Keeper |

It does have an additional ability that I will rule allows it to still land the hit. Also, I'll be a bit of a hardass here and point out that in a PBP game in particular, things like going prone and whatnot do need to be stated. So We're going to rule for now that the hit still stands.
That said, if it turns out that I nearly kill you or wipe the party we can duke it out for realsies, but given that 1.) You just critted him and 2.) My mental tactics were to use that sniper rifle the one time as a 'softener' and then switch to machine gun fire and 3.) he is almost certainly retreating at this point - I don't think it will do anything but give us a little 'fear of god' into Jink.

Jink_ |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I am perfectly happy with that.
I don't know why I didn't mention going prone in any of my posts. I think it is one of those "I thought about it so often that I just thought I had done it" type of deals.
I will ensure I don't leave anything like that out in future.
I do appreciate that we can actually have discussions about s%!# like this rather than just a
"NYE! YOU SHOT ME AND YOU SHOULDNT HAVE!"
"NYE! IT HAPPENS BECAUSE I SAID SO!"

Glitch__ |

It is a good tradition to spell out things. And Jink didn't spell it out. I had to go check as I thought he was lying on the roof.
Because roleplay wise - a small guy with a sharpshooter rifle asking for a roof from where to shoot? The weapon even has a monopod at the front for lying around like every sharpshooter does if possible. Just for the fun of it, check the picture in the SCRB.

The Keeper |

Yeah, I shoot to run a civil game. It is the rare player indeed that I need to get my MadHammer out for - things like "I never decided which god my holy symbol is for, so I am going to make a decision months after I wrote 'holy symbol' on my character sheet that it must be for the god that I just realized is runnin' this temple." So as long as you're not that player (who was also a known dice cheater and would let parties die due to his cowardice - there was multiple levels of backstory there) - then you're doing just fine.
And you guys are also 100% right - there is a clear and logical reason that Jink probably would have been lying down to take the shot (especially being Ysoki and having that sick upright ability) - but how were we to know that Jink wasn't a big Halo fan and was taking no-scope shots at a full run when he landed that headshot?

[banter]I'm in a RL table game where our bard has the highest armor of all, always stands in the last row (at least if there is no danger from behind) and is out in gaseous form as soon as it gets dangerous.[/banter]
But besides the funny part, I'd like to know what you deem cheating dice.

The Keeper |

By the way, expect to see some personality shifts with Kindu during combat. His powers have more than just a mechanical effect on him >:-3
Excited. Already. >:)

But besides the funny part, I'd like to know what you deem cheating dice.
It was blatant disregard for the number on the dice - like, trying to roll so no one could see it and then picking the number he wanted to say. I never caught him myself, but a bunch of the other regular GMs did - and we all noticed that he had a tendency to 'accidentally' roll off the table during high-impact rolls and make the call from the ground - again, somewhere where no one could see him. He basically wound up single-handedly breaking up Society play in that region because there were so many people that wouldn't sit at a table where he had signed up to play - and he was easily our most voracious player and would always sign up to play. I wound up being the only GM who would run Society games regularly, and then I moved for my fiancee to go to school - the community just sort of spun off into it's separate corners after that.
...sooooooo enough downer talk about gaming years gone by. You got some mooks to drub solidly!

Glitch__ |

Ok. I was assuming PbP game and wondered where cheating would start here. As the dice gods on these boards are pretty decent in preventing cheating. And even if you found a way to trick them, it'd be hard to detect.
But I guess with the artillery down and blask dealin gthe pain, this will be over soon. I hope they leave some small firearms. As Glitch has none yet. These things are damn expensive.

Glitch__ |

@ Glitch: you can barrow my pulsecaster pistol for now. It my “backup weapon” lol
My gear has some 'I got no clue what this stuff is for' Issues. I invested a lot in a 2nd tier computer (probably, failed to note down the tier) wrongly assuming that you need one to communicate. It's miniature, hardened, self loading and has an artificial personality, but it got no single module that would give it a purpose.
Without that I would have had the money to buy a second gun besides the one Kitty got.
But reading up on the computer got me wondering. What would it take to have that computer autonomously control a weapon mounted on kitty. Easiest thing: have the computer take control over the weapon already mounted, to avoid the penalty if the drone has to act on its own.
But the Control Module section states that a computer controlling a weapon gets proficiency with it. Which my drone doesn't until I get a lot more modules via the class abilities for the drone...
That and a lot of duct tape might increase the damage kitty can deal by a significant amount. Just in case Caloo isn't sitting behind it to boost the shot.

The Keeper |

...Mannnnn that sounds terrifying. Making deathbots? (which is basically what a targeting computer with an AI is).
...I'm gonna have to make you guys fight some high-level mechanics, aren't I?
(For real GM talk for a second, I think what it would take would be some sort of mounting system, which I would rule is probably going to require heavy armor? As someone who works in a high-engineering/fabrication environment, I can tell you right now that the number one way to find out that a suit of armor has a flaw is to try to mount weapons-grade force onto it. That said - if Glitch is open to investing into Power Armor feat trees to get a shoulder-mounted murderbot, I'd help as much as I can.)

Caloo Ch'Micia |

I feel like I remember something about computers having a pretty terrible modifier for attacks, though, despite having proficiency...
I guess the attack bonus is equal to the computer tier, which isn't terrible .

Glitch__ |

The correct way to go to get a serious weapon mounted on kitty would be to add another weapon mount module (to get two for being able to mount a two handed weapon) plus another module for the weapon proficiency. The issue is just, that I get only one mod every two levels. Which might be reasonable balance wise. But also totally stupid, in a world, where I can simply buy the parts and attach them.
As for the attack modifier. If I steer the attack of the drone myself it has +3 to hit. If I don't it is at -1. The computer has +2. That's not great, but once I got a weapon for Glitch too, it starts getting interesting.
Looks like that also depends on the progression of the AI in the drone, which is level bound. Right now it is too stupid to remember a command to repeat it next round. At level 7 it will finally reach the state, where it is able to shoot on it's own. At -4.
Can I get a pet instead of that mechanical piece of sh..? At least a snow leopard has half a brain, and the option to get a full brain at level 4. I guess glitch will have a very special relationship with Kitty, which involves a lot of kicking at the chassis :P

My suggestion, if allowed by GM: auto-sell whatever we don’t want/need/have a use for (ie gloves, knifes, etc) for 1/10th costcas per rules and create a “group credit pot” to use for healing or that little extra needed for an upgrade?
So presuming nobody claims the gloves, knives, flightsuits, Hammer = 9.5+7=66.5+30=96.5

Zhor Vorakun |

Kasatha Ringwear I
OK, I think this is a typo.
It could be Lashunta ringwear I (heavy armor).
Or it could be Kasatha microcord I (light armor).
I don't need either one, but others might.
I could take the assault hammer for if I need a backup weapon or I want to do bludgeoning.

[rules rant]If that stuff goes for 1/10th of the purchase prize, I want to know where the flea market is where that stuff gets sold.

Hey guys,
We're about a month in and you guys have started to scratch the surface of Prosperity - looking forward to the next couple reveals, that I think will help make things more... interesting.
I was just curious as to people's thoughts and impressions - Like talked about at the beginning, this is my first time GMing on the boards in years, and the first time I've ever exposed a homebrew to people, so I'm interested in any feedback you guys have on style, content - any of it. Want to make sure that I'm running a game that matches your playstyles and interests.

Zhor Vorakun |

Overall no problems, though I did miss the beginning. :(
That last map though had so much stuff on it that was incomprehensible.

The Keeper |

Didn't catch that - that's pretty incredible and I am laughing out loud and my fiancee thinks I'm crazy for it.
And yeah - that map was just cluttered. I think it's supposed to be sort of a junkyard shantytown, so there's a ton of fences and small cramped buildings and miscellaneous mechanical junk - but suuuuuper visually busy, and I didn't explain enough overall.
And as far as silly goes... you can ask my IRL group, you were going to get that with me anyways :)

The Keeper |

Hey guys, just a heads up - I wasn't just being a merciful GM and trying to give Caloo a chance to post by not posting last night. My sister-in-law gave birth yesterday, so we're juggling some family stuff right now - helping out and visiting our new niece. I'll try to keep the pace up (Padre's turns are easier anyways), but it might be spotty for a day or two. Now hurry up and kill some mooks!
