Looks cool, im interested :)
I have 2 ideas.
#1: a human sorcerer (arcane bloodline) who goes around and mumbles alot. He feels extremely uncomfortable without the feel of magic on his skin and so he re-casts his cantrips over and over, glowing like a magical popsicle to any magical sight... He would be in or heading to Bastion to check out the wardstones.

#2: a human flowing monk. He was born into a big family (11 siblings) and as such is very used to being with lots of people and in crowds. He plays a lot more of a defensive role and short duration non-magical buffer. He wont do much damage but everyone loves having him around.
He can quite easilly act as the glue that holds the party together. He will also be quite MAD so i will see how easilly i can work with that.

Currently leaning towards the monk but would like your imput :)

Oh ya, monk has combat reflexes and bodyguard, helping out allies with aid another defense boosts :)

Interested, I'm planning to play a swashbuckler or a paladin

So my other game doesn't announce until midnight so I will put down the basics so I still qualify here.

Race: Kobold (Carnation Scaled racial trait)
Class: Sorcerer (Kobold Bloodline)
Traits: Purple Scaled (gives a bonus language, and makes me shiny pink), A trait that gives stealth
Feats: Redeemed Kobold DM would you allow me to work with you to create a different bonus for this, since it is made for clerics?
Racial Traits: Echo Whistler
STR 10-4=6
DEX 12+2=14
CON 10-2=8
WIS 14
INT 14
CHA 16

Skills: Stealth, Survival, Perception, Bluff
Spells: 0: Disrupt Undead, Ray of Frost, Jolt, Mage Hand
1: Mage Armor, Grease

Story: Born with shiny Pink scales he was quickly cast out of his tribe in Boros. He wandered alone through the mountains, finding tunnels connecting almost anywhere he chose to be, though always out of site. He would skulk and steal from tribes of kobolds or goblins, and sometimes raid empty campsites of humans to take their leavings. One of these times he skulked outside a camp of humans as they discussed their land. He listened to the tenets of their goodly land, and he liked it. Maybe that is why he was born with ridiculous pink scales. This was his way to escape the awful fate of most kobolds. Now if only he could find a way to earn the trust of the bigger folk.

He skulked, and listened longer, then moved about and skulked and listened. He eventually found himself in a mountainous area filled with the walking dead. This was not fun, but in the midst of it he discovered there was a small city. Perhaps if he could help them against these walking dead...the only question was how to do it. Perhaps he could skulk in the surrounding area and when the undead attacked a caravan or the like he could assist them and earn a way in.

Cutting off submissions here. I'll look at them over the weekend and try to give feed back. They must be completed by Sunday.

Cam James: There is a brawler and several arcane casters in the running already so there is some stiff competition there. And while I like interesting characters there is a fine line between interesting and ridiculous. Both are close to the latter.

Mini: There is no way your kobold is getting through the mountains, even through tunnels. And remember, the campaign starts with the trade caravan not Bastion. As to the Redeemed Kobold, yes.

Vethyra Inkblood: It will be interesting to see how you fit Black Dragon blood into the story.

Ah. I can rework that a bit. The idea would remain the same his plan to track the caravan and earn his way into their good graces by defending the caravan.

Looking forward to when you make your decisions, DM. :)

Good luck to everybody who applied!

Good luck to all, and happy new year!

Wow, just realized today is not Friday. This is what I get for sleeping for 14 hours. Oh well. There is more than enough competition. As it is I will have to cut 10 people. I am (-) this close to making anouther game for the other side of the war in Boros but I more often than not that turns into a bad idea. Too much to keep up with and hard to coordinate the groups.

Anyways, there are other gods than Bahamut and Tiamat?

Of course. All the usual ones are present but those two are highly influential.

I am now imagining Bahamut tossing Torag at an evil dragon. I'm giggling pretty hard right now.

So this is probably going to be confusing, but I decided to use this alias for my character, instead of Quomaugh. Mechanically and story-wise, it's the exact same character. I'm just changing the name from "Quomaugh and Dorn" to "Jorn and Tyr."

Quomaugh was, in his original concept, a dwarf raised by really dumb orcs, and that's where he got his name. In retrospect, I'd much rather a character with a sufficiently full-blooded dwarf name... which Jorn is at least closer to. ;)

Sorry for any confusion this change might cause. I just figured it would be better to do it NOW, before you make decisions, rather than afterwards.

Character is done, so you can read it yourself :)

Wow, so many heroes there. Barbie really looks like a simple girl in comparison. Which she is, of course.

GM: when detailing equipment - and the relevant costs -, is there anything basic that we may consider as given for free, such as outfit, bedroll, blanket, waterskin, flint and steel etc.?

Wait, what? A human monk is ridiculous?
All that I gave you to go on was that he was from a big family and liked to be around people :(
Crunch is done, writing back story.

Cam James wrote:

I rest my case. Unless you meant Multiple Ability Disorder in which case I detract my statement.

Lol I'm guessing he meant Multiple Attribute Dependant, meaning there's more than one stat that needs to be decently high. A wizard, by contrast, is Single Attribute Dependant (Intelligence).

Here is some more exposition to get the creative juices flowing.

The Dragonborn:
For as long as anyone can remember, the eight Dragonborn have been the exemplars of Bahamut in humanoid form. The metallic dragons have always been such and thus need no boon from their deity. The eight, however, have been given great strength for their unwavering loyalty the Platinum Dragon. Each has been blessed with an aspect of dragon kind to be used in the pursuit of Bahamut's virtues, honor, hope, justice and wisdom. And because of these mighty blessings, only eight Dragonborn have every existed at anyone time or ever will for the blessing of Bahamut is not to be taken lightly. And when the time comes, each Dragonborn chooses a successor to carry on the will of Bahamut and receive his blessing.

The current eight:

The Dragon's Strength: Kennen the Half-pint Hammer - In his youth, the Halfling created his own unarmed fighting style and used it to defend himself and his friends in the slums of the port city of Tradewind. He then went on to teach the people how to defend themselves and almost singlehandedly brought the crime-rate down to almost zero. His style focused on swift attacks to pressure-points on his opponent. Now with the strength of a dragon, no challenger, even a real dragon, has been able to best him.

The Dragon's Heart: Leon Stroud - Few have ever seen the face of Leon Stroud since he took his oath to be a paladin. He wears his silver armor almost all the time as he wanders from town to town helping in any way he can. And not just by fighting evil. He also spends a great deal of time healing the sick, helping build houses and settling disputes. When he does engage in battle he is an impressive sight to behold and he gives off a strength that makes even the most timid of fighters into zealous warriors.

The Dragon's Wings: Lavi, Valkyrie of the Sky - The greatest dragon slayer in all of Ouros, Lavi Earhart uses a combination of martial prowess and magic to dominate the skies. Wit enormous silver dragon wings, Lavi soars above her enemies and strikes before they realize the danger. Truthfully her skills have only been tested against wyverns, rocs and rogue air elementals, she is confident she could take on any dragon in the sky.

The Dragon's Tail: Athos Rhode - The Dragon's Tail tends to keep to himself, preferring the ocean depths over the surface. He claims he enjoys the peace of the dark abyss but when he fights he is anything but. He zips through the water like he was born in it, for he was as an Undine, and strikes at both sea monster and pirates with brutal precision. If the need calls for it he can even move the water at will to wash away his foes or give him an advantage. Even before the blessing he was a formidable opponent in the water to the point that he gave the previous Dragon's Tail decent competition. With the blessing, he is unmatched.

The Dragon's Presence: Oberon Kaiser - With his half-giant ancestry, the Dragon's Presence has the size and bulk of an ogre and wields a greataxe almost as big as he is. It is said he could cleave throw four men and the boulder behind him. That is assuming anyone got that close because the man radiates an oppressive aura of power that sends most running. Even when he consciously restrains it, most feel uneasy around him. All save for his delightful wife who seems to be both immune to its affect.

The Dragon's Teeth and Claws: Eärendur and Lelithien Meratyn - Elf twins, the duo work together fairly often as there areas of expertise overlap. Earendur is the head of the King's Rangers and carries a pair of scimitars from which his blassing was derived. The blades are adamantine with dragon claw hilts and capable of cutting anything. His sister, Lelithien, heads a scouting and information network called the Shadows and wields twin daggers crafted from an ancient red's teeth. The blades are powerfully enchanted to return Lelithien who is one of the best knife throwers in Ouros. The Ranger's watch over Ouros while the Shadows watch Boros and together they have the most comprehensive intel on the state of both nations.

The Dragon's Scales: Briaries - Dragon scales are powerful and Briaries found a way to harness their power to amplify his magical power. Briaries knew he wasn't cut out to be on the front lines where his scales could protect him from enemy blades and magic. So instead he sacrificed most of the scales' power of magical defense for amplification of his own powerful magic in the form of arcane tattoos. Though some think it a sacrilege to use his blessing in such a way, the other seven thought it a clever use of the gift to his advantage.

The Dragon's Wisdom: Onikjun - Onikjun is the only human to be given a dragon name. Literally translating to "wise king", Onikjun has the longevity of a dragon and has ruled Ouros for thousands of years. He is the first Dragonborn and has never been succeeded. The Dragon's Wisdom is a wizard, an alchemist, a cleric, a scholar, and many other things. For when he grows bored of one pastime, he finds another. But the one thing he has always taken seriously is the rule of Ouros. Under his leadership born from years of experience, Ouros has never fallen to the chromatics and continues to uphold its traditions of honor and justice. But even as old as he is, he still doesn't know the reason for the war, as it is before his time, nor its abrupt end.

Are the planetouched races (Tieflings, Aasimars, Undines, Oreads, Sylphs, Ifrits and Sulis) allowed?

The first four, yes but I prefer core races. How well you fit your character into the story will be the main determining factor. There are some serious contenders.

DM I will repost the character this evening with the change that we discussed via PM

Race: Kobold
Class: Sorcerer (Kobold Bloodline)
Traits: Brass Scaled (gives survival as class and bonus on dipole vs humanoids and minus vs reptilians), A trait that gives stealth
Feats: Redeemed Kobold (Adjusted to give +1 CL for conjuration spells)
Racial Traits: Echo Whistler
STR 10-4=6
DEX 12+2=14
CON 10-2=8
WIS 14
INT 14
CHA 16

Skills: Stealth, Survival, Perception, Bluff, Diplo (using favored class bonus for a skill)
Spells:
0: Disrupt Undead, Ray of Frost, Jolt, Mage Hand
1: Mage Armor, Grease

Story: Born with shiny brass scales he was quickly cast out of his tribe just on the north side of the mountainous divide. His tribe was one that was trapped on the northern side after the world changing event, but they stayed true to their teachings for years. He wandered alone, moving from abandoned mine to abandoned mine, always staying one step ahead on his nomadic tribe that had sworn to kill him if they found them. He would skulk and steal from his former tribe, and sometimes raid empty campsites of humans to take their leavings, when the opportunity presented itself. One of these times he skulked outside a camp of humans as they discussed their land. He listened to the tenets of their goodly land, and he liked it. Maybe that is why he was born with scales that more closely resembled the noble metallic dragons rather than the chromatic.

Priding himself on being one of the more clever kobolds he knew, he found a rough road leading from the city towards the inner parts of Ouros. He knew that the inhabitants of this city had to get their food and supplies from somewhere, and it would only be a matter of time before he found a a caravan, and at last he did.

Traveling during the day was particularly hard for him, due to his sensitivity to the light, but he managed to steal a pair of smoked goggles which has helped him immensely. Now he desperately awaits his chance to prove himself to them, and failing that perhaps he will move on and try to seek out other tribes on this side of the mountains, perhaps some of them have changed as he has...

Ya, I meant Multiple Ability Dependance, now that I see the confusion, it was a good laugh :)
"I'm not Mad I tell you!! Just... Well Rounded...

I need him to be durable, dextrious and wise. Without dumping anything else (and a little Cha wouldn't hurt)
I settled for 16 Dex, con and was (better then I thought I would get!)
I'll get him posted up hopefully within an hour :)

I should note that my level 3 feat will be toughness, and his level 1 bloodline power is the ability to put traps down in front of him.

I would have snagged toughness at level 1 but story demands the other!! Love kobolds, but man their stats are hard to deal with!

Getting close to selection time!!

I'm excited to see the results, myself. :)

I just had 4 games go belly up, due to loss of interest by GM or other players, or GM's getting super busy. So hopefully with this one I will be a net -1 only.

So I was just looking over the kobold bloodline again, and I had never noticed this spell before.

Guards and Wards

I would get it if I were to survive to level 13. How fun is that!

Sadly at this point I have to back out

I'd say a bit more fun than Fire Trail but not nearly as fun as Vomit Twin.
Seriously, that things awesome! And a high level Alchemist can have it going all the time =^^=

This is the cutoff for finished characters and this is what I see so far:

MiniGM-some kobold (Sorcerer)
Yokaiboy-Keila Free (Brawler)
CampinCarl9127-Tiasar (Wizard)
Seranov-Jorn Oathforge (Druid)
TreasureFox-Faelyn (Ranger)
Jaime Sommers-Barbara "Barbie" Schmidt (Arcanist)
Atlas2112-Liath Gwenilian (Warpriestess)
Johnnycat93-Wyllen Ungebrochen (Cavalier)
GenThunderfist-Stalkid (Druid)
SodiumTelluride-Jusker Ragnos(Ranger)
Threeshades-Vethyra Inkblood (sorcerer)

If I missed anyone let me know. I will make a decision tomorrow.

Excited to hear about the decision, best of luck everybody!

11 people for 5 slots? If you use the Gambler's Fallacy that's almost a 50/50 chance!

Fingers crossed

Wyllen Ungebrochen wrote:

Nope. 4 applications for full arcane caster, so they (we) get only a 25% chance. On the other hand, chances for other applicants look better, depending on their expected role. Two druids = 50% chance. Two rangers = 50% chance.

Edit: if I had to make a prediction, I'd gamble on the following party layout:
- 1 full arcane caster
- 1 druid
- 1 ranger
- 1 warpriest
- 1 "mostly fighter" type (cavalier / brawler)

That is, not considering the "one foreign only" rule.

It's a joke...Gambler's "Fallacy" and all.

If you want to be purely empirical then everyone has pretty much 10% chance of being chosen. Everything else is just an assumption that the DM will prioritize mechanically diversity in favor of character diversity.

But actually relying on statistics would be both way too much work and mostly fruitless since the decision is based largely on unquantifiables.

Basically what I'm saying is: STRAP IN KIDDOS, MATH CAN'T SAVE YOU NOW.

Dark Archive

MATH CAN ALWAYS SAVE Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuu..............................

I am surprised there aren't any rogues. Or barbarians. Or fighter. Maybe I'll pick all casters and we can play a game of can they kill it before being one-shot.

Reminder: add more traps.

Who needs a big dumb fighter when you can summon something big and dumb? On top of that you don't have to worry about them dying or healing them!

You can get trap finding from a trait. It's a campaign trait though, so I personally can't take it.

Also, sad Cavalier wishes DM would notice him...

"I can be a fighter too!"

Jorn will be able to do a pretty good job of pretending to be a Barbarian or Fighter when he's turning into dinosaurs (and later giants, swinging around a big damn warhammer!). :D

My kobold can disarm traps and at level III gets trap finding

Slight delay as I am having a hard time choosing of a fifth.

Long time to hold my breath...just a tiny little kobold after all...

Rrrrright... so... ?
