Hi Zek!

Here's my submission for the game (including background and sheet). Please feel free to let me know if there's anything I should change or add as more information.

Cheers

Thank you for your submission! Your character sheet looks good. One question, though: are you listing all those spells at the bottom as a reference or because you have them in your spellbook? If the latter, I'm not sure how you would have so many already unless you bought scrolls to add the spells to those you know. Insight appreciated!

As for your backstory, I appreciate all the details you put in it. There were a number of clever references to the story so far that I appreciated.

The majority of events take place in the city of Kintargo. It seems like Shayn's a bit of a homebody based on his past. Will anything keep Shayn in Kintargo if he's able to recover his family?

Thanks for the feedback Zek!

Yes, I followed the official rules to buy the spells to add to the book (10g each 1st level, 40g second level, etc.).

As for sticking around: the events profoundly changed Shayn. While I think if he recovered his family he’d eventually seek retirement back to Kyonin, I also think he’d want to see everything through the end before that. I don’t know how the AP progresses, but assuming there’s continuity and a bone story, it should be what keeps him around to the end for a combination of morale responsibility and revenge (Calistrian, right?).

Cheers

Alrighty, that explains it then. Thank you. Good to know about Shayn’s plans. A Calistrian is certainly an appropriate character for this AP.

Thinking about dotting but I had a couple of questions while deciding-

1. Would you allow Black marketer feat?

2. Are you in need of trapfinding in the group?

3. Are occult classes options or Summoner Unchained open?

4. Are you open to me just coming up with a build for Rexus because you need a caster? or open to a player playing a out of town brother or sister to him?

Thank you.

Thank you for your interest.

1. After reviewing the feat and the one it’s based on, I will have to say no. It’s from 3.5 and the extra gold you get from the feat is too good for a single feat.

2. We have an Investigator with Disable Device, and an Urban Ranger that’s one level away from being able to get trapfinding, so I would say no.

3. Yes to both. I would, however, recommend avoiding the Synthesis and broodmaster summoner archetypes.

4. You wouldn’t be able to play as Rexus, but I would be open to him having an out-of-town sibling. You would need a good explanation as to why the sibling wasn’t in Kintargo already.

Hope those answers help. Let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

I decided to Dot a Alchemical Sapper because I felt it fit the campaign, need, and a solid background. He isn't completed yet but I wanted you to know what I was doing.

Thank you for the notice. I look forward to seeing the complete character.

Thank you for the heads up. Looking forward to seeing the full character.

Hey everyone,

Just a reminder that you’ve got roughly two and a half days left to submit a character. With Memorial Day weekend here in the US, I wanted to try to make sure that all those who might be interested got a chance to submit a character. That includes finalizing any tentative submissions for those who have expressed interest. If you’ve been lurking, there’s still plenty of time to apply.

Hey everyone,

One last reminder regarding the recruitment. You've got about 24 hours left to get a submission in. Right now, Shayn Veilsong is the only complete submission I see.

Recruitment will close at 11:59 PM Eastern US time, Thursday, 5/31.

Make sure to get your complete submission in before then if you want to be considered.

Dak here, presenting Celia.

Notes:
I went with an elder sister of Rexus for an easy tie in to the campaign and to give her an instant reason to join the cause with everything that has happened to her family. She knew about her parents and what they did. While she believed in their goals, she was busy with her own life in academia and travelling to join the cause. If that isn't appropriate, I am willing to adjust as necessary. I still like her as a professor of the academy and history of travelling and exploring to explain her levels, but how she is connected to Kintargo can be altered as needed. I put the background together as a brief overview, if you want more details I can hash out more of the specifics.

** spoiler omitted **

Hey Dak,

Thank you for your submission! A couple questions: How is Celia's relationship with Rexus (as well as her parents)? Also, it looks like you're focusing a bit on a damaging build. Are you planning on going for more of a blaster or more of a summoner?

Scarab Sages

Good relationship with the family, at least as much as possible for being away for so long. Was close to Rexus while she still lived in Kintargo, but she has been away from home over 10 years. As noted, she knew about her parents, they actually wanted her to join their cause but she was too busy chasing down knowledge of her own. The plan is to go blaster and utility. Having been tomb delving in Osirion she has learned the importance of being able to put out some damage.

Alrighty, then. Thank you for the information.

There we go, I might reajust the formatting of the character sheet, but eveyting is there.

Rai-to, Level 4 Areokineticist

Thank you for the update!

For everyone else, you've got a little over an hour left to submit/make changes to your submissions.

The characters we'll currently be considering are:

Shayn Veilsong
Rai-to
Celia Victocora
Eldako (pending background completion)

Posting in at the last minute here with a Skald/Magical Child Vigilante.

A few quick notes so I don't miss the deadline: while her casting is weak for now, at 8 her familiar's Vig. identity will be that of a Faerie Dragon, which should serve to fill in a lot of the gaps that the summoner list leaves.

As for Rich Parents, all but 53 gold is contained (and is) in the backpack; 50 went to the Truestrike potion, and 3 in her pocket.

If I can clarify anything else, please let me know, and thank you for the consideration! I had hoped for a longer backstory, but I'm out of time.

E: I've been playing Pathfinder via Roll20 and the table, regularly, since Beta, as well as various chat-based venues over the years. However, I have no history on the forums here; I'd been itching for a new game, and Google led me here a few weeks ago. I understand this is a lengthy commitment, and I understand if you'd prefer someone with history.

Thank you!

Hey everyone,

Recruitment is officially closed to new applicants. I had intended for this to also be the close of recruitment just in general, but with Memorial Day here in the US, I think a lot of people had less time than they normally would. As such, I’m going to give those who’ve submitted till tomorrow at 11:59 pm to add/finish/polish the details of their applications, if they want to. This is the only extension I’ll be offering, so make the most of it if you wanted to adjust anything.

Thank you again to everyone for your interest. After tomorrow night, I hope to have an answer for you in the next couple days, but I’ll need to confer with the current players, so it could be early next week before we’re able to reach a decision.

Just for clarity, is that tomorrow (6/2 @ 11:59) or today (6/1)?

And I appreciate this, either way!

Points, since I have time to actually make them now.:

First, if you noticed, I took the variant heritage "Angelkin" for her, which makes the base mods +2 Str and +2 Cha - for what I've built, I rather need this, having shuffled the scores around several times to try to get the numbers I'd like. Additionally, I chose the +2 additional Strength Variant Ability from the table. This only replaces a 1/day use of Alter Self, which, while certainly handy (particularly in this campaign and most particularly for a Vigilante), doesn't really equal a +2 stat increase permanently. That said, she is rather suboptimal, so on an individual level it might be more okay. However, I'd also be willing to trade Halo (which replaces Darkvision, imo a poor decision anyway) and Exalted Resistance (the SR 5+lvl vs Evil, which replaces the normal resistances), as well as the SLA, for the additional +2; I would also be willing to drop it entirely, but that's more sheet-work, and I'd have to adjust her equipment and load accordingly - it's less necessary than the Variant Heritage for me either way.

As to build:
When I first started playing table-tops, back in 3.0, I almost exclusively played casters. Not only were the combat options easier to manage, but Wizards are Gods - 'nuff said. By Pathfinder, I became bored with the pure caster. Prestige classes and splats added a lot of options, for sure, but ultimately it was the same spell list with different names every game. I like the varied options of PF, particularly the Hybrid classes, and scores of archetypes for just about everything at least allow me to feel like I'm doing something different.

Enter this character. Skald is almost exclusively for Inspired Rage; I might as well share it with the party if I'm bothering to take a single dip, and truth be told, raging by "singing metal music" is...well, it's just awesome. Having access to 1st level Bard spells via scroll with no UMD is neat at this lower end, but ultimately loses its usefulness shortly, though Vanish makes for a nice "phone booth" effect.

I was describing this character to someone yesterday as I worked on her, and used the phrase "if She-Hulk and Thor had a baby." In creation, this was unintentional, but at this stage I readily embrace that description - doubly so, when I remembered Jennifer Walters was a lawyer. This sort of urban intrigue campaign seems perfect for a Vigilante (and may have been concurrent in release? I don't remember the publishing times for all this content), and if I'm going to have an occupation in Cheliax, a barrister seems like the obvious choice for the lifestyle.

As I mentioned in my last post, I did end up taking Rich Parents despite switching out the rest of the noble stuff; I reflavored it as "Professional Paragon," to imply that she earned the money herself, rather than an inheritance (and also used 700gp, as I mentioned in PMs). Additionally, I have two social talents for Prof-Barrister, the second of which is of use for Downtime income; if you do not believe I can spend 20 hours each week operating for in-game income, or would feel like that could unbalance things (particularly if I take the In Vogue and/or Entrepreneur social talents, which would be 2x my Prof result gp/week, roughly 50 by then), I would like to drop the Double Time talent for a different one, either Renown or Safe House, depending. I like flavor, but there's only so much I'm willing to sacrifice in the name of it.

Finally, while I realize I barely squeak by on the order of arcane caster, as I also mentioned before, by level 8, the familiar will have the form of a Faerie Dragon, which will be utilized as a lovely wand/staff wielder, freeing up my hands for hammering; with a proper selection, supplemented by my casting as a UnSummoner, the character will never truly be a God, but should be able to provide many of the same bag of tricks.

Good question! That’s tonight, 6/1. So basically an extra 24 hours. Thank you for the extra details!

Got her all squared away - I corrected some mistakes with her equipment, as well as fleshed out her background.

Thanks for the opportunity, and best of luck to you, your players, and all the applicants!

Recruitment is officially, completely closed now.

Thank you again to everyone that submitted. I'll be conferring with the current players and will hopefully announce the selection by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

After conferring with the current players, a decision has been reached.

Without further ado, the character selected to join the campaign is Celia Victocora.

Congratulations and please join us in the campaign discussion thread to say hello!

Thank you once more to everyone that applied. I wish you all good hunting for other games.
