A swing and a miss! Once again Pylos can't seem to hit the armored and nimble to be fair, these are high AC enemies for lvl 1 brutes. Meanwhile, Tarnagius takes care of the brute harrassing the civilians from the side. With a fierce charge, he slices the brute(5) right across the back, the mere strength of Tarnagius forces his blade right through the brute's armor. He falls to the ground completely lifeless.
Lirandra takes the opportunity to spread a little healing to the citizens. She heals a mother trying to flee with her 3 children. "Thank you, miss!" she cries as she flees the scene. I think now it is fair to say that Lirandra should be immune to the crowd's stampede.
While Tarnagius, Pylos, and Kethaera take the guards' attention, Jules attempts to sneak around the back. He weaves and dodges around the frantic crowd, hoping to get behind the vulnerable priest.
Kethaera clears her voice and begins singing a magical tune of bravery and battle, inspiring courage among not only her allies, but any person fleeing the wrath of the guard.
As the crowd continues to rush past, they clip Tarnagius and the Priest. The two fall over, but neither get stepped on by anyone. Tarnagius takes 1 damage and is knocked prone!

With malicious intent, the two female Dottari march towards Pylos and Kethaera. The two swing their heavy maces at the rebels, but both Pylos and Kethaera are simply too nimble against the guards' sluggish attacks. The brute takes this opportunity however to land another solid smash against Pylos. The force of the blow is nearly enough to render him unconscious, but not quite. Pylos takes 5 lethal damage!
The priest stands up a few feet from the fight and begins chanting in a dark tongue. Immediately, Pylos feels a terrible pain in his head. Anger and rage swell up within him, and he feels compelled to strike Kethaera. Fortunately, our brave defender shakes it off, his free spirit giving him cause to fight back.

Jules continued toward the priest, while remaining beneath notice, as the last thing they needed was him influencing everyone's mind.
My current pan is to get there and ready an action to stab him when he tries to cast a spell.

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

Heading to bed early tonight but quick question: if I switch my inspire courage to singing can I still attack or do I have to do a 5 step move in order to continue my performance?

DM Hell's Fox |

As far as I can read from the rules, there's nothing that says that you can't attack while using bardic performance. They don't specify one type of perform as having different properties to another for the purposes of bardic performance, so honestly I don't think it's a big deal. The only thing I can think of that would be different between dance and sing would be if I tried to entangle you vs. trying to silence you. Does anyone else have an opinion about this?

Tarnagius Vashnarstill |

I don't see a reason to send hyper-realism here to reduce the utility of an already not-broken ability. I say let rule of fun prevail here. Also, my saves are in my little spoiler tag under my name. It's cool if you just roll them in your posts to reduce the amount of clutter. I ain't superstitious.
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

I think you're right Tarnagius. Kethaera, feel free to switch if you so desire.
I still need actions from everyone (except Jules).

Pylos gripped his side for a moment. The force of the that's blow felt like it almost broke a rib or three. He may not have the same beliefs as the rest of his family, but he'd be damned before he let some two-copper brute bring him down. Sending a prayer to Cayden to hopefully guide his sword, he once more went to strike him down.

Okay my brain is lagging today but I think wielding a weapon with two hands is your strength bonus times 1 1/2. Double check on that please gm. Um...nevermind since I'm guessing that I missed completely. Darn. That would have been overkill there too. :(

DM Hell's Fox |

Yes you're right it would be 1&1/2 times. Although that wouldn't change anything for you, as you would need at least 14 str to make a difference... and sorry to say but I think your brain is lagging slightly. There's simply no way you do +15 damage =P

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

Oops! Darn those typos! It was supposed to be 1.5 not 15! Sorry about that. And yeah my brain was indeed lagging. XP

DM Hell's Fox |

Still waiting on combat actions from Tarnagius and Lirandra. I'll be botting them soon.

Tarnagius Vashnarstill |

Tarnagius stands up, looks around briefly.

He then runs over to Pylos, looking to defend his old acquaintance.

In a hurry, Tarnagius runs back to Pylos, worried about his old acquaintance. Pylos, although bruised and bloody, manages to keep a brave face as he cuts the brute along the waist. Kethaera tries to get in on the action too, but she swings too wildly. Jules continues sneaking around the back until he is right next to the priest. He blends into the crowd far too well for the distracted priest to notice. Lirandra fires a bolt at one of the guards(1), but in order to protect Pylos, she takes a shot that lands right in the guard's shield.
As another wave of fleeing citizens rushes past, the Brute gets knocked to the ground.

Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is: Jules successfully struck the priest while he was casting a spell. The bad news it: The priest didn't die, and he managed to complete the spell.
A wave of sand escapes the priest's hands, washing over Pylos, Tarnagius and Kethaera. Suddenly, Pylos and Tarnagius yawn before collapsing to the floor completely asleep. Kethaera merely blinks as the spell washes over her, somehow completely immune to it's effects.
One of the guards(1) pulls out a pair of manacles and fastens them around Tarnagius' wrists. The other guard drops her shield in order to grapple Kethaera, but misses completely. Kethaera slices along the guard's unprotected hand, taking off a finger. The brute stands back up and moves over to assist the now bleeding guard.

Kethaera realizing what she needed to do aimed for the brute, deciding to finish things as she swung her sword with both hands at the brute.
"Why don't you people just go sod off!?"

DM Hell's Fox |

Nope, thou dost not. Thou art royally screwed.
Note: From this point forth, wielding a weapon in two hands adds 1-1/2 strength modifier to the damage minimum 1

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

So my roll of 16 doesn't count? And for some reason it changes 1.5 to 15.

DM Hell's Fox |

No, no you're fine. Under the normal rules, you wouldn't get any bonus to damage for wielding your sword in two hands (due to your lack of strength), but I have decided to make a homebrew rule stating that you get a minimum bonus of 1.

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

Ah okay. And that's cool.

At the same time, Jules tries to take out the unarmored priest, but the halfling is having some reach problems as the priest sidesteps the strike.
Lirandra tries again to shoot the guard down as he shackles Tarnagius, but even with Kethaera's song, the bolt flies into the sky.

Finally, the crowd has dispersed enough that trampling is no longer an issue. All who remain are actively engaged against the Dottari and their supporters. Citizens in the streets are fighting the heavy armed Dottari, using naught but daggers and rocks. Blood spills everywhere along Aria Park and the surrounding streets.
Standing on the steps of the Opera House, several Dottari guards have taken position with their heavy crossbows and shoot into the crowd. Two of which take aim at Jules, but both bolts simply shoot past him. Meanwhile, the priest starts chanting another spell, but he loses concentration and Jules pokes him again with his shortsword.
The Dottari guard(1) stands back up and yells at Kethaera "Stand down! Lay down your weapons or the Dottari will not be merciful!" she seems to strike some fear in the poor half-elf. Kethaera is now shaken for 2 rounds!
"Stop resisting!" the other guard(2) yells as she holds her mace in two hands and lands a firm *thud* against Kethaera's side. Kethaera takes 4 damage!

Kethaera decided it was time to leave.
She took several steps back towards anything that might help.
Doing five step backwards. Hoping there's a manhole she can conveniently fall down through.

DM Hell's Fox |

I would be willing to provide that for you, if you so desire

DM Hell's Fox |

You can wake a person who is affected by the spell "sleep" by spending a standard action to slap the **** out of them.

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

Sure that's okay me! Adds a bit of humor to a serious situation. Not sure how we going to wake the others what with the guards standing next to them.

DM Hell's Fox |

Let's get this moving along.

As Kethaera steps back to avoid being surrounded, she suddenly comes upon a realization. There is no floor...
Although she didn't notice it, the manhole cover behind her was opened during the heat of combat. Poking its head out is non other than a ratfolk. "Umm Uhh" he hesitates as Kethaera inadvertently steps towards him, only to suddenly fall down the hole. Fortunately for her, she is caught in the arms of what appears to be a massive ratfolk. At least the size of Kethaera, the giant of a ratfolk smiles broadly and says in a deep, slow voice "Cauught ya".
Meanwhile, Jules gets spooked with the crossbowmen targeting him. With a quick hop, he dodges around the priest to get to the other side of sleeping Tarnagius. Although the halfling knows nothing of magic, he decides it wouldn't hurt to give a swift kick to the man's face to wake him up... which it does. Aching from the manacles, Tarnagius groans like a man who wakes up to a terrible hangover.
The ratfolk who opened the manhole cover looks just as confused as the guards watching him now, but while looking over the situation, he says the following to Jules in a high pitched, very staccatoed voice "Quick! BringYouBuddiesOverHere! IGotsYa!" Then another ratfolk pokes his head up, and the two of them raise their mini hand crossbows to fire upon the nearest guard(2). The two bolts each hit their mark, and with a grunt, the guard falls to her knees gasping for breath.
Behind them, Lirandra takes no hesitation in sliding down the manhole. It takes a little wiggling, but she grabs hold of the ladder and descends, the mysterious cat jumps in after her.

Tarnagius Vashnarstill |

Glad I got masterwork armor instead of a weapon, since I'm about to lose those. Are my hands bound behind my back or in front? In front I can probably pick up Pylos by the clothes and hoist him over my shoulder, yeah?

DM Hell's Fox |

In front. Forget about carrying him, just kick him in the kisser. He can carry himself... Damn I'm cold.

Tarnagius Vashnarstill |

He has already taken so much damage Tarnagius figures he'd start bleeding out if he got kicked again.
Tarnagius gets to his feet and hustles over to Pylos.
Up and at em
He hoists Pylos onto his shoulder.

Jules Corvid |

Jules had enough of this fight and discretion was the better part of valor they said. "Indeed, It is definitely time to leave."
He carefully took a step away from the guards before turning to flee down the manhole and to the safety of his new friends.
5ft step back and second move to go or the manhole.

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

Kethaera suddenly fell the ground under her disappear as she fell down the opened man hole. She yelled as she tumbled down before she was caught in the arms of a ratfolk...a somewhat tall and muscular ratfolk.
"Um thank you for catching me," she said as she got down, placing her feet on the ground.
"Hopefully the others can make it down here as well. And thank you friend for helping us out. I think if not for you we would have been in serious trouble. And if we had improvised we would have been in extremely serious trouble."
Okay I need to invent a spell called Bloopers. As somehow this feels like a great place for a blooper!

DM Hell's Fox |

The massive ratfolk lets Kethaera down and then scratches his grey fur. Although he is smiling, Kethaera can tell that he doesn't understand much of what she is saying. When she finishes thanking him, he says "Welllcoome."
As Tarnagius pulls Pylos away from the guard and tosses him upon his shoulder, Jules scrambles for the manhole. The two ratfolk shift slightly to let him through, but the halfling has no issue in grabbing the ladder and descending. Pylos snorts loudly before shaking himself awake. He suffers from a terrible hangover as well.

Once again the crossbowmen reload their crossbows with alarming speed. As Tarnagius turns around, he feels a sudden sting of pain in his back. At the same time, the guard moves in to try to trip Tarnagius, but he jumps over it just in time. The last part he did not expect, though. Having forgotten about the priest, Tarnagius suddenly feels a wave of fire wash over him and Pylos. It burns part of his hair and singes his clothing. The two ratfolk reload their hand crossbows and fire at the priest. Tarnagius doesn't see the result, but he hears the priest yell out before crumbling to the ground.

Kethaera Nightbreeze |

"Indeed it did, Jules. It was as if the lord-mayor was just waiting for an exuse to kill people! Oh wait...yeah that's not surprising actually."
She still held her sword, deciding it would be best just in case.
"It's best we start moving as I doubt our attackers will sit around."

"I think there are still two up there Ms. Nightbreeze. I hope they make it." He looked about for the escape route and waited on the ratfolk to lead.

After Tarnagius kicks his sword towards the ratfolk, the manhole, and the adventurers below, everyone jumps out of the way. Down down down the sword falls before it smashes on the ground next to Jules, breaking in to two. The two ratfolk slide nimbly down the ladder to let Tarnagius and Pylos climb down to safety. Just before he descends, Tarnagius slides the manhole cover back over the entrance.
Combat has ended. You are in the company of two regular ratfolk, and one giant ratfolk. There is no illumination at the moment, Tarnagius is still shackled, most of you are very wounded, and Tarnagius' sword is broken.

Tarnagius Vashnarstill |

Well of course that ended well. Here's hoping somebody got Mending.
Tarnagius immediately leans against a wall.
Can someone give us some light? I'm carrying one of our combatants here and I don't want to be stumbling about when they inevitably come down here.
