Kethaera Nightbreeze
Holding up her hands in defeat, Kethaera replied, "You have a point Tarnagius but still maybe Pylos could have bought you a new weapon pretending he was buying for himself. Like I said the market changes weekly. But now that I think about it, we will have to occasionally have to buy supplies. We could dress up like servants or mercenaries or even agents of Thrune for those times we have to go shopping."
She's right you know. We have to shop for items from time to time. And who knows maybe we could find some neat magical weapons and armor on sale!! And we all love sales!
Aid Another Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Kethaera Nightbreeze
And if I remember correctly there were mentions of dragons in the player's guide! Oh boy please let them be young dragons! Still the GM did mention that occasionally magical items go on sale. Maybe we should keep an eye out for them.
Although you did bring up a good point Tarnagius. It wouldn't have looked right if her 'bodyguard' which shopping for himself. Seems that he has a lot to teach her on being subtle. Which is good since we are focusing a good bit on that. In addition, Tarnagius probably knows a lot of the more upscale shops and stores what with him being a noble and all
DM Hell's Fox
I've updated the map to allow everyone the ability to move themselves if they so please. Just keep everything honorable, alright?
Yes Kethaera, if someone keeps tabs on sales or magical items around Kintargo (diplomacy to gather information), you can really luck out. Some of the deals are ridiculous. The big shops change monthly, while the little markets change weekly. Also, keeping good relations with the various shop keepers (and other NPCs) is vital, as your future actions can really have an impact on who is willing to deal with you.
Not actually that far off, Phillip =D Varisia is your well known neighbor to the north.
This aged stable leans slightly to one side, its roof precariously propped up by aged wooden walls. The air reeks of stale urine. Broken desks, scuffed tables, and torn chairs crowd the thirteen horse stalls, all of which are covered with a healthy layer of dust. A grated-off alcove along the southeast wall seems to house the only relatively intact wares. Deep growls can be heard on the far side of the stable.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Cool! I wonder what sort of items on sale right now! I figure that out later though since we are all tight on money at the moment like we are in real life! And...uh oh! I'm not liking those growls!
Wiggling her nose and trying not to gag at the smell of stale and dried urine which most definitely carried a good bit of mold on it and at the large amounts of dust, Kethaera heard the growls.
"Uh oh. I'm not liking those growls. And here I thought it was going to be easy. Better be extra careful. What with the mayor's love of big dogs I'm not surprised that rabid dogs are roaming around the city."
She drew her sword, reading herself for battle while she also said a short prayer to Shelyn asking for aid.
DM Hell's Fox
"WOOF!! WOOF!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" You hear as a flurry of barks and growls swarm you from the far end. One of the barks is especially deep and powerful. Showing themselves, two regular dogs and a fully grown bull mastiff defend their turf. They all look starved, and there is a menacing look in their eyes.
Pylos Thrune
|
My sister once had a bull mastiff pup. At 3 months old, he was at my knees, and I was about 5'8-5'9 then.
"Holy schnikes," Pylos muttered as the trio of canines appeared. "I'm not wearing my bacon pants, am I? Good doggies, no snacks here. I think there might be some cats two streets down, though."
Tarnagius Vashnarstill
Kethaera Nightbreeze
The half-elf looked at Tarnagius with a look of disbelief.
"What am I? A wicked witch!? Don't answer that question. And I don't have an apple on me, not even a nonpoisonous one. Not that it will do us any good. Maybe we should have looked for a back door. Of course the dogs could guarding that one too. Maybe we could lead some Dottari in here and let them take care of the dogs or let the dogs take care of them. And we sneak while the dogs are busy."
She meant the last parts as a joke and she would be greatly surprised if the others agreed with her.
"So what do we do? Find a back way in or fight through this pack? There's no telling though if the dogs have the run of the place."
DM Hell's Fox
The dogs are getting closer, ready to charge.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
"Um anyone have any ideas? I don't think these dogs are the welcoming committee type!"
Kethaera prepares herself in case the pack of dogs rush them.
Preparing for enemy approach.
DM Hell's Fox
Preparing for enemy approach.
Does that mean a total defense? Or a prepared attack?
DM Hell's Fox
I'm sure you could find all sorts of things laying around, sticks included.
Pylos Thrune
|
Slowly and carefully, Pylos bent down and picked up a nearby stick. Holding it out and wiggling it about to get the dogs' attention, he quickly threw it behind them.
Thrown Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Jules Corvid
Jules looked about the wrecked livery and its new inhabitants with a somewhat indifferent look. He held his hand inside his jacket as he prepared a response for the charging animals.
Ready action. Thrown dagger at the first dog to charge.
DM Hell's Fox
Pylos picks up a nearby stick to distract the dogs, but in throwing it he accidentally smacks one of them. They treat it as a hostile act, and charge forward.
Pylos: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Jules: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Kethaera: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Tarnagius: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Phillip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Dogs: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Prepared Actions
1. Kethaera, Phillip
2. Dogs
3. Everyone Else
1. Kethaera enters total defense
2. Jules dagger: 1d20 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 8 = 5 Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
3. Dogs attack
Dog1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Dog2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Mastiff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
At the sudden movement of the dogs, the party reacts quickly. Kethaera freezes in place to protect herself, while Jules throws a dagger at one of the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were too far to throw a dagger accurately at them. They lunge out at Tarnagius and Pillip, barking like crazy, and each tear a strip of flesh off with their bites. The mastiff also charges Tarnagius, but misses wildly. Good thing too, as that looked to be one heck of a ferocious bite. The first to react after this are Kethaera and Phillip.
Kethaera and Phillip go first, then the dogs.
Since the attack was triggered by the thrown stick, Tarnagius' charge was ignored. Honestly though, I think that would be the best anyways, as he would have gotten very, very hurt.
DM Hell's Fox
Pylos, I need your health updated. Otherwise I'll have to assume that the first point of damage will knock you out.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Lol! I go fix lunch and clean up a little and combat ensures! But yeah total defense works fine. Was going for prepared attack but this gives me some good learning experiences since I'm rusty on combat rules. Sorry I didn't get back in time to let you know. But let's see what I can do and can't do in total defense.
Kethaera prepared herself ready to defend herself and the others.
She swung her blade at the closest dog.
Longsword Attack Roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Longsword Attack Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
Holding sword with two hands. Not enough room to use chord of shards and a little close for comfort to use performance
DM Hell's Fox
Tarnagius attacks the dog nearest him and then shifts into the stall he was standing next to.
Tarnagius, you're too quick. Your turn will come after the dogs go again. When it's your turn you can reroll that attack though =P
DM Hell's Fox
Phillip and Kethaera are first to react to the dog attack. Phillip tries to defend himself by swinging his club at the dog who just bit him. Unfortunately, the sudden attack has him off balance and he misses. Kethaera comes up behind to help him out, and although she doesn't deal too much of a wound, she still manages to slice the dog with the end of her blade.
Dogs' turn
DM Hell's Fox
Dog1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Dog2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Mastiff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
In a completely blind rage, the dogs continue to snap at Tarnagius and Phillip. Tarnagius takes a glancing bite to the leg by the smaller dog, but his armor manages to protect him from the incredibly powerful bite of the mastiff. The other dog tries to snap at Phillip, but Kethaera's attack has fended him off for now.
Tarnagius took 2 damage
1. Kethaera, Phillip
2. Dogs
3. Everyone Else
Tarnagius, Pylos, and Jules can act.
Jules Corvid
How far away are we? The map scaling has me a bit confused.
DM Hell's Fox
How far away are we? The map scaling has me a bit confused.
True, the grid is pretty bad for this map. The squares aren't even... even! Anyways, Jules is 15ft. from Dog2, and 20ft. away from the Mastiff. Hope that helps.
DM Hell's Fox
What do you guys this of THIS?
DM Hell's Fox
I'd like to see.
Sorry my bad, viewing is allowed now XD
Pylos Thrune
|
I thought we were all in the building? Just asking cause I remember my lame stick-throwing starting the fight and it'd be hard to do that through a door.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Getting ready to run a couple of errands but I should be able to post soon though.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Kethaera swung her sword again at the mongrel.
Longsword Attack Roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Longsword Attack Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 9
DM Hell's Fox
Still waiting on Pylos and Jules. Pylos, I can't assume that you stepped into the building to throw the stick. I only send in those who outright say they've entered the building. As the map says, the doors are wide open, allowing ranged attacks.
Jules Corvid
Jules stood his ground as there wasn't much room for him to get inside. Dogs. Of course there's dogs.
Draw Shortsword. Fight defensively. can't move.
Pylos Thrune
|
Pylos drew his estoc, the metal of the blade sounding out as it left the sheath. He marched forward, coming to rest next to Kethaera, and plunged his weapon at the dog!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Surprised you didn't use the whip.
DM Hell's Fox
That estoc is cursed, I tell you.
As Jules and Pylos both draw their weapons for a fight, Tarnagius starts getting serious. With a powerful swing of the borrowed axe, Tarnagius chops the dog right between the eyes, felling it instantly.
Shortly thereafter, Phillip and Pylos fall short on their attacks, but Kethaera slices once again. This time, she puts a fair bit more power into it, and thrusts the dog through the neck. It also falls to the group instantly, with little more than a yelp.
Big dog's turn
DM Hell's Fox
The mastiff is still focused on Tarnagius. So focused in fact, that he runs right past Pylos in order to attack.
Mastiff Acro: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Pylos AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Estoc Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Mastiff Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Trip: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
The powerful canine rushes right past Pylos before he had time to react, and with it's powerful maw lunges at Tarnagius. As it leaps into the air, Tarnagius has just a split second to react. He turns his body slightly, just enough that the dog doesn't wrap his fangs around the man's neck, but instead gets his shoulder.
Tarnagius is down at -2hp!
Everyone's turn, starting with Pylos, Tarnagius, and Jules.
Kethaera Nightbreeze
Seriously Pylos that sword of yours is cursed! You might what to switch to the whip!
Damn! That's one vicious dog! Luckily I have healing spells! Quick converge on their mongrel!
Jules Corvid
Great the halfling thought as he maneuvered to strike. Now I'm going to be a dog treat.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
