Hedgeknight's Godsmouth Heresy (Inactive)

Game Master hedgeknight

Great game in the beginning - nice group of players. Unfortunately, a couple went MIA and I had to close the game down before I wanted to. I was looking forward to a much longer game and eventually a campaign.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Alright folks - here is the official OOC thread for our game. Please keep all out of character talk, questions, complaints, bribes, threats, and announcements here for the group. Visitors welcome too!

Lots of divine power in this group, eh? Yikes.
Anyway. I am ready to settle into a posting routine. Here is how it goes for me...

My situation is a little different to yours, Hedgenight. I do most of my posting while at work and my hands are often full while at home. I work a 4/3 or 3/4 schedule. My entries are more frequent on my weekdays and tend to dry up on my weekends (which change from week to week). If I miss a day it is probably because I am busy at home. I post at varied hours of the day. I am in the Eastern Time Zone as well.

Brankh is ready to take up the challenge!

Alanthian reporting.

This character was made for Crypt of the Everflame that fell in right after it started.

He is set up to be a dual weapon guy, but I may change him to a elven curve blade user.

He is set up with a 20 point buy, but I will rearange some points today.

If you see any issue let me know.

I look forward to stomping some heads with you all.

I still haven't rolled this guy up. should i roll him conventionally or use a pt buy system?

Dark Archive

M Human Level 1 Cavalier

I just rolled him using 4d6 dropping lowest. I can email you his char sheet pdf if you like

Brankh was built with a 20 point buy, two traits and average starting gold. I can easily adjust him down to a 15 point buy if you all prefer to tone down the high fantasy.

If had to roll for his stats he just wouldn't be have been the same character.

Elf Rogue HP: 11/17 | AC 18 | T 14| FF 14 | CMB +2 | F +1| R +7 | W +0| Init +4 | Per +7(+8 Traps)

All changed up.

Should be able to hold his own in combat and be a good rogue.

That's a wicked blade he'll be using.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Hey fellers - home from work and checking in before dinner. 20-pt buy, max gold and hp for 1st level; Core books + APG (no summoners); two traits - can use regional traits with approval.
Anybody own City of Strangers? It details Kaer Maga (the setting for Godsmouth Heresy) and is a kick@$$ accessory! If you don't own it, drop me an email.

I haven't looked over your official character sheets as of yet except for the backgrounds. I've made a few notes for potential story threads and have been thinking about ways to tie in your backgrounds to either the story or the city setting. Will be looking at your character sheets tonight and tomorrow - gonna copy them into a Word doc that I can take to work with me.

When do we want to kick this thing off? I'd like to sometime this weekend, but that might be a tad early. Perhaps midweek, around the 23rd? That's a week from today...or even Saturday the 26 would work.

veering towards human

I actually made up a trait for Brankh. I hope you approve.
"Scarred by Flames" or "Tattooed by the Holy Flame"
It is similar to the half-orc trait called brute.
Instead of putting the +1 to Intimidation I put it into to Heal.
I thought it would make more sense that way.

Of course I could put that +1 into intimidation to make him even more imposing than he already is!

from pfsrd:
Brute (Half-Orc)
Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Intimidate checks, and Intimidate is always a class skill for you

The point is: I would like him to be as menacing as possible to his enemies, while reassuring to his allies.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

I like it - in fact, I really like the idea of Brankh using fire-based healing. How do you think that would go with this feat? Lots of "fire" ideas running around in my head - "cleansing fire" "trial by fire" - did you ever read the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant? The giants had a ritual that called camorra (I don't have the books in front of me, so I might have butchered the spelling on that.) which consisted of immersion in extreme hot water or even lava that would purify them both body and soul. Great stuff!

So, yes, in short - like the feat. Feel free to use it.

Liberty's Edge

Here is my character sheet for the character. I'll make up a profile for it later on. Also, to answer an earlier question from the Recruitment thread. I would not mind if our characters knew each other in passing. Saoirse spent a lot of time traveling wherever the crusading band needed to go so it is definitely possible for us to have met before while she was with them. We probably would have met when the crusaders were taking shelter in Cole's church before campaigning again. Note that the sheet assumes a light encumbrance (she is technically carrying a medium load but most of it is in a backpack that can be quickly dropped during combat) and using two-weapon fighting with the shield.

Physical Description: A fiery young girl out on her own for the first time, having only recently passed her training to become a Paladin. Has a few deep seeded issues with the undead and Urgathoa stemming from tragic events during her childhood. Looking to start her work as a Paladin in Kaer Maga helping the Church of Pharasma with their problem. Piercing emerald eyes with deep red hair, a strong physique built over years of practice. She holds a bastard sword strapped to her hip and a shield covers a backpack with her few possessions.

Background: Saoirse Palelight grew up among a crusading band of Iomedae Paladins with her father; raised a devout follower of The Inheritor after her mother and brother were murdered by Urgathoan cultists when they attacked the farmstead that her family owned. Before the cultists could complete whatever dark rites they planned to perform the Paladins stormed into Saoirse?s home and killed several cultists before the rest fled into the darkness of the nearby forest. The Paladins offered to take them to the nearest town but Saoirse?s father insisted on going with these men to avenge his family, having been an old campaigner before serving long enough to earn his retirement. Learning that the cultists were lead by a foul young man who had moved into the region recently and went by the name Lomar, the crusaders moved to apprehend him only to find that Lomar had already abandoned his home and fled towards the Gods know where. From there Saoirse saw much of the world from the back of a wagon, travelling wherever injustice, demonic, or undead activity grew rampant, and her father always searching for the man who took his life from him.

While her father was too old to be inducted into the rights of Paladinhood, he eventually assented to Saoirse learning from the Paladins who they travelled with. Seeing in the Paladins a chance for Saoirse to regain some of her youth, and maybe gain a future that he could no longer give her. Learning the forms and styles of swordsmanship and the honor code of a Paladin first hand, she practiced every day for years as she grew up. Eventually developing into a strong young woman with a rigid sense of justice and fairness, with a belief in the righteousness of her cause, Saoirse was given her final test towards becoming a Paladin. Finally tracking down Lomar, her father and her assaulted his new cabal of worshippers in the dead of night. Despite their best efforts, Saoirse learned the lesson of betrayal that night when they were ambushed inside a cave.

Barely fighting their way out of a deadly trap of tenacious and rabid ghouls, Saoirse lost her father that night when he took a bite to the neck, his life blood spilling out in moments. These ghouls were lead by one of the many Paladins she had grown up with all her life, learning too late that he was turned to ghoulhood himself and had been hiding his condition for many full turns of the moon, plotting with Lomar and other Urgathoan cultists to remove the crusaders Saoirse travelled with.

Barely defeating one of her former brothers in a climactic duel at the entrance of the cave, Saoirse was unable to kill Lomar and returned to the crusader?s camp to find that they were also betrayed, finishing off the last of an undead horde that attacked the camp while she was away. The Captain of the crusaders saw her disheveled and downtrodden appearance, taking in the state of her mind with a single glance.

"Where is your father Initiate Saoirse?"

Silently shaking her head, Saoirse allowed the tears that she had been holding back flow out with embarrassment. Putting his hand out around her shoulder, Captain Miphos spoke words that have stuck with her to this day.

"Then you have truly been tested Initiate. You have lost all vestiges of your past save one, and one day The Inheritor may give you the chance to remove that last piece as well. However, take this lesson to heart, we are all fallible, and the only chance any of us have to uphold our Code is to be ever watchful for the signs of corruption. We all failed in that tonight but to be a Paladin is to persevere and try again. That is what you will do as well? Sister. Now, help me with the wounded, we have much to do."

Giving Saoirse a gentle smile, he moved off, and though Saoirse had much more to learn about being a Paladin, she was ready to take those steps on her own. This is why she decided to leave the crusader company that had raised her for so long. The memory of her father was too fresh for her to remain and so she took up an offer from the Church of Pharasma to take care of an important assignment in Kaer Maga.

Kiradia,

Awesome BG, I love it! I went ahead and changed Cole's BG to reflect the fact we are acquainted with one another. Let me know what you think, thanks!

The backgrounds on these characters are what sold me to run this game. They are very strong. Looking forward to some good roleplaying among the group. Even when I'm trying to kill you off and turn you into...er...never mind.

Looks quite good - love the blade! I figure that might fetch a hefty price on the streets of Kaer Maga. Heh.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Morning fellers! We currently have four characters fleshed out and ready to die...er, ready to help solve the mystery for the church of Pharasma in Kaer Maga.
Just a few things for today:
1/ How long has your character been in Kaer Maga, the City of Strangers? I can assume long enough to be familiar with a few of the city's neighborhoods and I can post you some info. Or if you've just arrived and heard about the "job offer" then we can go with that too.

2/ Do any of you know each other? I think Saoirse and Cole may have a connection, seeing as they both worship Iomedae.

3/ I've copied the backgrounds of all six characters into a folder that I'm going to take to work with me and review today. I've got some ideas about how to incorporate the background of each into the game. Should be fun.

4/ I've heard from two of you via email - the more, the merrier!

5/ Finally, looking ahead to "kickoff" - I haven't heard from any of you, so how about we shoot for next week, say March 23? Of course, for some of you, I may go ahead and post a few things for individual encounters, scenarios, etc. We'll see. Once Lord Thorin and Catila have full character sheets, then we can seriously kick it up a notch or three!

Y'all have a good one - I'll be back online tonight.
-g-

Brankh would just have arrived in town I think. His first stop will be the Temple of Pharasma. That was his destination in the first place. Now that he's carting around the body of his dead mentor...he as nowhere else to go.

I didn't find hedgenight's email in the posts.

Here's mine:

Cole would have been in Kaer Maga for a while, trying to follow up on his brother's whereabouts.

Let me give you my email addy.

Elf Rogue HP: 11/17 | AC 18 | T 14| FF 14 | CMB +2 | F +1| R +7 | W +0| Init +4 | Per +7(+8 Traps)

With Alanthian’s background, I would say he is in Kaer Maga to make a name for himself so he can be recruited into the Pathfinder Society. The city’s lower levels are the perfect place for him to go to gather information and artifacts, with the intent to hopefully bringing anything he finds to the Society and gaining admittance. Everything he does in the city will be to further this cause, and when he hears, or is contacted, about the problem in the lower levels he will jump at the chance to show his skills.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Home early - emails sent. Working on some replies to backgrounds...and watching the first round of the NCAA tournament. :)

Need to ask your opinion on something: I've got some "prologue" posts I can make on the characters - maybe address some of the issues as to why your characters are in Kaer Maga or perhaps some encounter you have on the way to the temple.
My question is: would you prefer I do that in this OOC discussion thread, or should I go ahead and begin a thread in the Play-By-Post section and introduce characters (and players) to that as I get to them...prior to the official start next week?

Your thoughts please...

If it's a part of the story why don't we put it in the in IC thread? I'm for that.

Elf Rogue HP: 11/17 | AC 18 | T 14| FF 14 | CMB +2 | F +1| R +7 | W +0| Init +4 | Per +7(+8 Traps)

In character.

Nothing wrong with starting early. Go ahead and start an IC thread if that's ok with you.

Liberty's Edge

I would not mind starting early. Whenever you are ready really. I check the boards often throughout the day so I'll be ready to go. Cole and I know each other in passing.

A prologue would be great and I see my character has having just arrived in Kaer Maga answering a call from the Church of Pharasma that her Captain tipped her off to after she expressed a desire to leaving the crusading band. Hope that helps a bit.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Well alrighty then! Working on a general intro post right now and will add individual flare to it as I go. Playing hooky tomorrow from work and will have more time to devote to the game as the weekend progresses...between the beach and basketball, family and friends, that is. :)

And away we go! IC thread here: Godsmouth Heresy

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Cole and Saoirse - I'm going to write the intro posts for your characters tomorrow - will probably have them at least see each other, maybe even set them up to interact. Is that okay with you? If not, I can write them up separately and they can meet at the temple. Just let me know.

Night all!

Yes! Brankh's first entry. I hope I'm not starting prematurely.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Added intros for Saoirse and Cole.

Working on Thorin.

Apologies! Wasn't able to get online yesterday. Doing Catila's sheet now!

Oh, and also real quick, thinking Catila is also very likely interested in The Society (it's Right up her alley, after all) so it's very probable if not likely that she and Alanthain would have at least bumped into each other before. I see them having a lot in common over their desire to explore, discover and solve the many mysteries of the world. Plus they also share some skills in common.

um...forget the rest for now lol

Female Gnome Bard (Detective)/ 5

And here she is! Ready and raring to go!

And Wow! Finally having read the IC Hedgeknight I must say I am Very impressed! I've been around PbP's for quite some time now and I can honestly say that already yours is looking to be one of the best I've ever been in. Can't wait to see what you have in store for Catila! : )

EDIT
- Catila's just been in town long enough to hear about he Temple's request, so say a day or two.
-She has heard about the Pathfinder Society of course, and had been interested from the start. But she wanted to get some real world experience under her belt before she bother applying. Now though she's more interested than ever, and will seek any Society representation in the city that she can find.
-She first finds her way to the Oriat district, and it is there she hears of the temple's request

PS HK, do you need any more story hooks for Catila?

Nice looking sheet! Will work on her intro post in the morning - pretty beat right now and the bourbon is kicking in. :)

Thanks for the compliments - I'm looking forward to you guys juicing the game up to the next level with your abilities - should be a lot of fun.
Any story hooks are good; feel free...
Oriat district...nice.

I totally agree Khaladon.

Great detail, Hedgenight! And I'm sippin on some Sour Mash myself. A toast in your honour.

Khaladon, I think Dr.Eyesquint will make a great sleuth. Great character concept! I can't wait to see her in action.

I hope I'm not out of place to suggest something. I think you should put at least one rank into Knowledge - Local.

The Detective option gives the Doctor Eye for Detail (terrific!) with its bonuses - in exchange for Bardic Knowledge, which would have trained her in all of the Knowledge skills.

But as a Detective, Dr. Eyesquint now needs to invest ranks in Knowledge:Local , otherwise the Eye for Detail bonus is wasted on an untrained knowledge skill which is only useful for checks at DC10 or less....unless you wish to invest in local knowledge at a later level. But what kind of sleuth does not have training in local knowledge (and maybe some other kinds of Knowledge as well)?

Great intros hedgeknight! I'm impressed and looking forward to seeing where this game is headed. I requested permission to see the map as well, and posted my first submission. sorry it took so long, it was a night from hell at work. Ill read your emails and get back to ya tomorrow.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Thanks for the kind words, my fellow gamers - I hope I can keep it up; will be working on Catila's intro this morning and the other conflicts going on - rolling some virtual dice, oh yeah!

Edit: One other thing after looking at Catila's character sheet, is what are your feelings about Hero Points? We used to play with them waaay back in the days of 2E but it was just something the DM gave out and it was easy to use them while sitting around the table.
How do they work online? I imagine it may be difficult to use them...but then I need to hear from those more experienced than I. Talk to me...

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Catila's intro is up!

Will be working on some dice rolling later today - it's heating up outside and supposed to be near 80 today - soccer games, beach, and outside stuff is calling.

HK,

In regards to Hero Points, I have not used them all that much, and none of my other games use them either, although considering how often I get critted by certain GMs, it may not be a bad idea.

I am OK with whatever you go with.

I've never used Hero Points before as a player or DM so I can't really comment. By the way, I can't open the spoiler for my character from your latest post.
