I5, underwater. Do I see it underwater? 1d20 8=24 spot.
The water is murky as all hell. It looks like you are in the cud filled third stomach of some gargantuan cow. You imagine you see the giant for a second, but it's a biiiiig stump.
You see no giant...dungeonmaster heathy |
Pip flits over the battlefield making Lucille wail like a banshee. He pauses to throw a Glitterdust on the big lizardguy trying to make pancakes out of a singularly dirty hobbit.
"Hang in there cousin!" He yells
The giant lizardman is blinded.
Gittik looks up, and sees his flying twin......Bushytoe.
Altai Iscarni |
Altai Iscarni wrote:So both have to be power attacks? Does the second have a damage bonus?Remember that the second attack is made at a -5 penalty. It probably does not matter here, but future attacks should keep this in mind.
First off, both attacks - and any AoO's you make in the same round must be Power Attacks. Stig's regular attack sequence is +12/+7 (1d10+5, +1 Waraxe). So, as you are enlarged, you add +1 for extra STR and -1 for being Large. Your attack bonus is thus unchanged. Damage is 2d8+5 (or +7 if used 2-handed), as your effective STR is now 20. Thus, if Stig attacks 2-handed with a 4-point Power Attack, his attacks become +8/+3 (2d8+15), with a 6-point PA (the maximum possible) +6/+1 (2d8+19 for both attacks). Happy chopping!
Beldan Vale |
Holy crap, I just rolled three 19’s in a row – and none of them were attack rolls more’s the pity…
The boat tips, and Beldan gets thrown into the water. Through the murky green, he see’s something large and ugly.
Spot:19+1 = 20
Fear giving him strength, the rogue kicks out for the ship. His hands find purchase on the slippery timbers and he begins hauling himself up to deck level.
Swim:19-1 – whatever for drunkenness and sickness.
Climb: 19+6 – whatever for drunkenness and sickness.
Don’t know how far that’ll get him, but he’s aiming to climb up in H6.
Altai Iscarni |
He's a slick bastard. He's using the swamp to his advantage...
Is it a stone golem?
Altai Iscarni |
I guess Gittik is gone to Scotland, if somebody wants to n.p.c. him...
If I can run Runzyl, I should be able to run Gittik as well. ;P
"GAAAAAHH! You die now, then me make big boots!" Gittik steps in, all flashing blades and teeth.
Rage on! 5' step to F16 before unleashing the storm of blades. I'm also using Animal Fury; it grants a bite attack at his highest attack bonus and costs 2 rage points per round. Also, as Big Liz is blinded from Glitterdust, Gittik counts as invisible and gains +2 on all his attacks. Again, as there are five attacks, here are the post-math resolutions: Attack 1: hits AC 24, damage 9. Attack 2: hits AC 21, damage 8. Attack 3: Hits 31, crit confirm hits AC 27, damage 5+6 electricity (10+6 if crit). Attack 4: hits AC 17, damage 4+4 electricity. Bite attack hits AC 33, crit confirm hits AC 24, damage 8 (16 if crit).
Dang. Gittik's as scary as Runzyl. And yes, I did roll a 20 on the bite attack. Owie!
dungeonmaster heathy |
Oh. My. Gosh.
We've created a monster.
ROFLMAO!!!
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Under Gittik's fangs in it's jugular the thing falls; the feral hobbit looks up at his twin, blood gushing down the front of his shirt...they're not exactly identical, are they.
I can die happy now.
dungeonmaster heathy |
The red lizard man in g12 scores a claw and a bite on stiggy for 12 h.p. in damage; two saves fort d.c.15 or 3str; 1str in damage.
The other red lizard man goes to c7; attacking Oso, as does the one at d8.
The only hit Oso sustains is a bite, 3 h.p., d.c. 15 fort save or 1 more strength.
Up top, Quorkus and the crewman next to him kill the lizardmen at c4 and d4, and the crewman at c5 dies under a spiked club. The crewman at f8 moves to e8 against the lizardman at d8; "I got him, Oso!" He misses.
As regards the giant,....you can see him now. He's at IJ 6-7 and he's spearing Beldan for 20 h.p. of damage in the back. He erupts out of the water with a spear lunge.
Beldan, d.c. 10 climb check to stay there on the wall...
Apparently he didn't see Riese; Riese gets an aoo against him.
ROUND 3!!!
Altai Iscarni |
Oh. My. Gosh.
We've created a monster.
Mechanically, they are actually quite similar - both have tons and tons of attacks with weapons that score criticals at high frequencies. I'm more in the 2-H power attack camp myself, but the 'cloud of knives' build is pretty scary as well.
Altai drifts closer to the big newcomer before unleashing a bolt of searing flame.
Move to J10, increasing my altitude to 20' before casting Scorching ray. Attack roll 13+5=touch AC 18, damage 20. No save for half. :P
BTW, what are we facing here? Is it a 'normal' giant, or is it another big lizardman?
While we're at it, here' Gittik's action as well:
"YAAAAAAH!" Gittik launches himself off the raised forecastle, smashing into the red-skinned lizardman like a screaming, frothing lawn dart.
Move to G13 and attacking the red lizard in G12. Attack roll 18+11+2(flank w/Stig)=AC 31, crit confirm 13+11+2=AC 26. Damage 3+6=9x2=18.
Dang. Gittik's on fire! No biting this round, as he's taken a move action.
dungeonmaster heathy |
The giant Gittik killed reverts to normal lizard man size when he dies...
Altai blasts the giant in the water(humanoid-looking giant...)with flame, and it howls in fury and in pain.
Gittik flies across the ship and hacks down Stiggy's last foe for him.
The giant is "a hulking brute, a savage giant the color of stagnant swamp water. Animal bones, filthy skins, and crude wooden fetishes barely cover its brutish frame, and two piercing white eyes stare hungrily from beneath a sloped brow."
Oso Legumbe |
Should have said I stepped back to c6 out of AoO range. Never mind.
Concentration check 15+4=19
Briefly a hemisphere of multi-hews coruscates across the surface protecting Oso before coalescing into a symbolic sword over the priest's head.
Oso Legumbe |
Oso steps back to Capn Quork and sets his sword and shield for defense and protection. As he steps he takes a snap attack at the red lizardman's ankle.
Fighting defensively 18+7=25, Damage 7+4=11, AC currently 25/23 vs non-evil.
Oso Legumbe |
That's bad. Do my survival skills or religious knowledge shed any light on to why they ignored my sword. Fiendish? Treated scales? Survival 4+7=10, Knowledge (Religion) 14+6=20.
"Them's tough. Use magic on dem, Pip."
Pendobar 'Pip' Bushytoe |
"Them's tough. Use magic on dem, Pip."
"You got it Oso!" Pip calls from his aerial perch. He starts riffing a dissonant set of chords on Lucille, the music swelling to a cacophonous roar.
Casting Sonic Burst at the lizardmen trying to kill Oso. Obviously trying not to include any friendlies in the 10' sonic burst radius.
Sonic blast damage: 1d8=7. fort save to avoid stunned state for 1 rd
Elgan Dreadwood |
Ack! ROFLMAO! Great guys, we should write a book! You can't buy this on the shelves, I've looked!
CIrcling the battle, and keeping an eye on the flying, singing hobniz and Altai, 'Is it just me, or is it getting crowded up here?' Elgan-HAwk sees the ugly giant raise it's head from below the water to spear Beldan!
With a shriek of avian rage, he directs another lightning bolt from his mini-thundercloud to blast the dripping monstrosity. And the iron-tipped spear channels the bolt like a lightning rod.
No roll to hit, but gets a reflex for 1/2 dmg. But I think he should get negatives for being IN water, and it IS electricity!
Riese's Altered Form |
Riese doesn't take his AoO, but instead swims(still underwater) 20' down the side of the dock (to the left of the map) then pops his head up. "Imbelia Phyruss Maximus!" Cast scorching ray at the giant--1d20 7=24 ranged touch for ray 1, 4d6=12 damage, 1d20 7=23 ranged touch for ray2 , 4d6=19 damage. So 31 points of damage to the giant. (and just in case I need a concentration check--1d20 11=28 )
Stigwold Mæch'Hæmmær |
<Stig steps north and takes a low stance on the edge of the Legman, the boat groans from the shifting weight of a fat giant dwarf in plate armor. He swings hard from the end of the handle of his axe.>
2H PA/Waraxe:
1- 1d20+8=14, 2d8+16=20
"Giant mud feckin' dobber!"
dungeonmaster heathy |
Elgan's got a lightning bolt and a standard attack left; I reckon he can add that to his next attack. I'll go for these guys now.
"You! Now you die!" announces the giant to Stiggy.
He stabs at the dwarf twice with his spear. He hits once, and Stiggy takes 20 h.p. in damage.
The red lizardman claws and bites Oso, and the normal one kills a crewman next to him.
Oso takes 12 h.p. in damage, and fort save twice d.c. 15 or take 3 and 3 str in damage.
Quorkus kills one lizard man, there's one left by him, and another crewman falls.
NEW ROUND!!! EVERYBODY'S GO!!!!!
Elgan has an extra lightning bolt and a standard attack action coming to him...
dungeonmaster heathy |
Stiggy chops again, the second attack hits....blood all gushing down his face into the water...
The other giant bellows; "ME KILL YOU, BEARDED UGLY!!!" to Stiggy.
He turns long enough to see that it's a squat female giant with a receding hairline and a figure that just shouldn't be girded in a chain mail bikini...
Altai Iscarni |
Aw, for Boccob's sake... Another one? Altai keeps pouring fire onto the giant in the water, hoping to finish off the ugly brute.
Casting another Scorching ray. Attack roll 10+5=touch AC 15, damage 22. I then drift to F16, still 20' above deck level.
That was my last memorised Scorching ray - fortunately, I still have a bunch of scrolls.
