"Also, Maurice - your continuing line of absurdities lead me to doubt even the existence of any big brothers. I think you're trying to just scam us for gold."

He doesn't flinch.

"See you later, Maurice!" Altai waves as the little troll waddles away.

Once the stinky runt is gone, Altai checks out the spot he was sitting on, looking for loose threads, buttons or anything else that can be tied back to the little troll. "We will need to be more vigilant at night. He might very well come back with a bunch of goons - or he may be all talk."

I'd like to recover something that'll help me scry on the little bugger. It'll be interesting to see if he actually has any big brothers.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

search roll?

That's covered by Perception now, right? Perception check 13+8=21.

I don't need any material objects, but they'll help a bit.

Heheh, my bosses name is Maurice. No, I’ve never heard anyone call him The Space Cowboy.

You find something. Something grubby. You shouldn't touch it with bare hands.

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

"Gross. But thanks to the magic of, well, magic, retrieving this... um, whatever it is is no problem." Altai moves the piece of gross whatzit into an empty potion bottle using a Prestidigitation cantrip.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

The grubby thing is steaming a little bit.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

You guys keep going?

Male Human Rogue 14

Yeah, but we’ll keep an eye out. Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29

Male Human Rogue 14

“Do you think that troll really had a wife and kids? I feel kinda bad ... monsters aren’t supposed to have families ...”

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Couple hours later the group crosses a goodsized frozen lake and just reaches the northern shore; it's lightly forested.....normal movement, trees every 10 to 20 feet, and it's lightly sloping to the north. Snow everywhere still. Fine, powdery, relatively undisturbed; about 2 foot deep.

A-T top; 1-20 side. The last in line...(DIO!) has reaches square j16, and a-t 17-20 represents the edge of the frozen lake. Everything above that (a-t 1-16) is lightly sloping and lightly wooded.

At this point I ask for a marching order.....perception rolls, that sorta thing.

I gotta go to the store as well; back in a bit.

Beldan will be in / near the fron, Perception as above (29).

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

right on; waiting for positions,.....then all will be revealed.

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Hnoss and Beldan lead the way, followed by Stig and Gjetost, then Pip, Altai and Claw. Elgan brings up the back, giving us fighting power and a set of sharp eyes in case someone tries to sneak up on us that way.

Perception for Altai: 8+8=16. Perception for Gjetost: 16+12=28. Perception for Claw: 8+2=10.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Single file, or in pairs? Also, any spacing betwixt?

not that the viet cong are gonna pop a frag or anything...

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Staggered double line. Beldan's 10' ahead and 10' to the left of Hnoss, who is 10' ahead and 10' to the right of Stig etc. That'll limit the effects of area spells. Everybody walks in the footsteps of the one in front of them.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

right on...the side is 1-31.....instead of 1-20. top goes out to x. The ranks a-t 30 31 are water; the other side is forest.

Elgan is at m29.
claw is at ij 25-26.
altai is m22.
pip is j19.
gjetost is mn 15-16.
stiggy j12;
hnoss is m9,
and Beldan in the lead at j6.

A trio of massive horrors approaching, knocking down trees once they realize they've been spotted by the pointman.

tuv 1-3,
uvw 5-7,
vwx 9-11.

A vaguely wolflike head mounted with massive bull horns, and eyes that glint with cunning; scaly plated hide,...four arms; two spindly, human, almost an afterthought; two bedecked with crab pinscers....burbling through the tugley wood....

Initiative.

I’m Chaotic. I don’t walk in no-one’s footprints.

Lucky I’m in the lead.

Holey sheet! Three glabrezus? One came within a hair’s breadth of TPKing the 7th / 8th level group I DM a few weeks back ... alright, time to test the difference between low-mid levels and high -mid levels!

Init: 1d20 ⇒ 13

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

You guys win.

How many players were in the group?

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Somewhere, Maurice, laughing; giggling like a mad troll, hidden, unseen.

Bard 7 / Sorcerer 1, Rogue 8, Fighter 6 / Paladin 2, Wizard 7, Cleric 6 / Battle Smith 1 (or some funny PrC like that). 5 characters, no cohorts or animal companions or anything, using 3.5 not PF.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I checked the maths; the group's ecl not including Gjetost and Claw is closer than the other group's ecl to one glabby's cr.

encounter calculator...

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Well, they are not native here, so they can be dispelled back to the Abyss. I'll start with that, I think.

Altai darts forward. "Begone, outsider!"

Move to Q18 before casting Dispel magic on the demon in WYZ 9-11. Dispel check 14+12=26.

Claw runs towards the unnatural monstrosities.

Run to NO 19-20.

Pip fires up an inspirational Northman battle march.

Inspire Courage - +3 on attack rolls and saves for everyone.

Gjetost's action depends on whether Altai managed to dispel a demon. He'll charge one of them, but which one depends on who's left.

Male Human Rogue 14

So Bel’s in the woods? Places to hide?

Male Human Rogue 14

Oh yeah, that was the other thing with the demon I did against my group, he was banished from the Abyss so considered the Prime his home – couldn’t be banished or dismissed (but couldn’t summon demons either).

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I don't think it dispels. I think you're thinking of summon monster, which is an ongoing effect, versus planar binding; dispel magic doesn't dispel instantaneous stuff.
I could be wrong; is there somewhere that says this'll work?

Yeah, you need banishment or dismissal. Still, a valid action on the assumption they were summoned.

Beldan Vale wrote:

Yeah; he can find cover; just pick a square and he'll be good, as I didn't feel motivated enough to describe trees over that vast of an area.

Cool; I'm learning the in's and out's.

Male Human Wizard 17 (Conjuration specialist)

Aw, poop. :§ Sadly, I didn't memorise Dismissal today - I always figured that Dispel magic could get the job done in a pinch. Something tells me I'm about to regret that rather badly.

In that case, Gjetost has to charge the demon Altai tried to dispel. So, charge to TU 12-13. Attack roll 13+19+2(charge)+3(bard=-3(power attack)=AC 34, damage 12+16+3(bard)+9(power attack)=40.

Male Human Rogue 14

“Holy crap in a bucket, I do not like the look of this things, oh man, it just knocked down a tree like it was swatting a fly ... not good. And what is that burbling?”

Beldan starts to raise his crossbow but quickly realises he is too far away to get a vital shot in (assuming he can figure out where these things keep their vitals), so he quickly ducks behind a tree then starts moving stealthily but quickly through the woods. Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (7) + 33 = 40. Use fast stealth to move at full speed to N13, ducking from tree to tree and making sure he ends up out of sight.

Male Wild Elf Druid 16 (Shifter version, PHBII)

Boy, I don't check for two lil hours! (Sometimes I think that you all wait for me to move away from the PC, THEN see how much you can post!) ;P

"Naw, Ah knows dat DAT ain't natch'rul!!!" Elgan shouts as the trio of horrors approach. He chants like a crazy person, his tiny magical pin glowing as it speeds up the druid's spell. In a flash the Jolly Green Giant appears and starts to charge the trio,...

OK, the charm allows the full-round Summon to take only a standard action, does the summoned still get a full action in the turn it appears? Either way, I summoned it in front of the group, and it entangles the area ahead of it, then charges the Glab-yuckies! :)

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Gjetost wracks the glabrezu one good time, and steaming ichor hisses as it hits the snow.

Claw; Altai; Gjetost; Pip have gone. Everybody else is up.

Hnoss is ready, but she's hanging back to make sure she doesn't do something stupid like last fight.
Once bitten....

Male Wild Elf Druid 16 (Shifter version, PHBII)

Heh. Cross post! (Beat you by 2 seconds!)

Duly noted, which ones have or haven't seen the sneaky Beldan.

I guess that which you summon gets a FULL ROUND action.

All summoned creatures get to act normally when they appear. So the answer is yes. Having said that, it cannot both attack and cast a spell in the same round.
