"Should we go to check out the pit? It seems to be the most interesting route for now."

He peers in and surveys the room for traps.

Trap Expert: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 2 = 8

Is there a trap here and if so, what activates it?

Ramonde smiles at the guard Now that's more like it! When I write about this, perhaps I won't call you a pile of stinking offal! Laughing, he heads towards the pit, and begins to whisper a few words in an unknown language, perhaps one he himself doesn't know, while helping Yizid look for traps
Aid another, while also casting Arcane art, so that the next time someone helps him, they get +2 instead of +1

Aid another: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6) + 1 = 9

Roll for Arcane Art?

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

sorry. Is that roll+int or roll+cha? Or no mod at all? All it says is:When you weave a performance into a basic spell, choose an ally and an effect:
If it is int: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 1 = 8
If it is cha: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6
No mod at all: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

+Cha. I'll be nice and use your first roll though ;) You choose an effect and an ally, then roll+Cha. 10+, it happens. 7-9, it happens but something else happens.

Yizid, Ramonde's aid lets you pick three questions instead of two.

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

Gorn takes the bag and fishes around for a handful of hardtack. He stuffs the somewhat moldy biscuit in his mouth and chews lustfully. Find the the taste not overly bad, and his stomach still crying for quarter, a brother to the biscuit, and then another, follow the first to a similar fate. He takes a long pull from his waterskin, and takes out a tough piece of jerky, chewing on it thoughtfully.

Is the food found only one ration worth? I'm not sure on the calories to rations ratio. =)

Gorged and sated, his focus begins to unfog and takes stock of the situation. "Aye, let us to the pit go. We may as well face the teeth of the problem while we are hale, and as yet undiminished by the multitude of madmen we shall no doubt need to give their final blessing to."

Gorn gnaws on the jerky, waiting for the thief's wordplay to pan out and to lead the group onward to greater danger!

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

Ramonde heads back towards the rest of the group. Walking over to Tubulat, he asks What do you think? Since you own this place and all?, his tone somewhat mocking.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Yizid, There aren't any traps set around the pit, and other than the drop and darkness it's relatively safe.

Aegelm follows Ropetail and Yizid to the pit's edge, then jumps noticeably when Tublat comes through the doorway. "By the Grave of Vano, you escaped!" The guard cautiously approaches and holds his hand out like someone trying to calm an unfriendly dog. "I thought Jame had shackled you in the pit after you caused that last riot. All of the lower levels were ravaged first, and we didn't see any sign of you on our way here." He shuffles nervously, and offers you some of the jerky that Memeni brought over. "No hard feelings, I hope?"

Tublat, Your piercing thoughts detect caution, attentiveness, wariness. Images of the meerkats that keep watch near their burrows in the grasslands near your home are visible below you, not directly beneath the pit, but just past it. Possibly a room or two past that. Roll+Wis for the Stay Alert move.

Gorn, Your stomach calms and your mind clears, but all of the food Heskor offered you has vanished! The guards back away slightly at this display of voraciousness. "Are you feeling alright? Some of the others acted similarly just before…" Heskor's voice trails off and he turns back to the pit quickly.

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

Puny creatures down there feel the danger, ready to pounce. Meerkat can scratch out eye of even strongest lion. Tublat tries to carry across to the party.
Stay Alert: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 6) + 2 = 9

You not lions. he notes.

Ramonde, you clear minds of charmed, why not for these vermin? he asks, referring to the prisoners caught by the madness.

Tublat accurately knows his way around the majority of the grounds of the Oubliette, especially where this pit leads to. He knows the vermin is hiding there, but they could be in a few places... Where would they be...? Discern Realities: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10

Obviously "What should I be on the lookout for?" Additional questions: "What here is not what it appears to be?" and "What happened here recently?"

Do we have a description for the pit yet? Is this like a bottomless pit that goes on and on? Or is it just a hold that drops 10 feet to a level below? I think Tublat is looking at it, so I'll wait for his answer. I, uh...I have something cool planned. =)

"Not lions? Not lions?" Ropetail mutters to herself. "This gorilla is a few bananas short of a combination plate," she continues, under her breath.

She finds a secure hardpoint, like a wall ring, to tie the rope and net to. Carrying it over to the pit's edge, she makes to rappel down the side of the pit to the next floor down, without actually falling in. "I'll look ahead," she tells the others, keeping Tublat's mental warnings in mind.

Cautiously, step by step, with her feet braced against the pit's walls, the arcane duelist lowers herself down.

Gorn grates at the words from the guards. "Confound man! Two men have I slain trying to force me way in here! And to the first fresh face you see you would begrudge them a small helping of victuals! Keep thy manners lest you see how I act with yourself a head shorter!"

Inside Gorn is fuming, not only from withholding the killing blow from these fools, but also wondering why he was -so- hungry. Wanting the odd haunch at mid-day is not news, but devouring so much so quickly is at least...out the ordinary.

In frustration he swings his massive shield at a nearby wooden chair, the blow disintegrating it and sending shards flying in all directions.
"Let us dally no longer! If only the eradication of all the former prisoners will keep their tongues from wagging like old women in a knitting circle, then let's be about it!"

Gorn steps from the edge of the pit, landing with a crash of muscle and a rattling of steel as his massive legs absorb the hard landing. He stares ahead with burning eyes, his thick arms working with anticipation of rushing into combat.

If Gorn's going to just drop down, he'll undoubtedly capture the attention of whatever lurks down there. Shrugging, Ropetail follows, lowering herself on the net-rope as far as she can before dropping down the rest of the way and immediately seeking a hiding place.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

The pit isn't very deep, just a ten or fifteen foot drop to the next floor. Those who follow Gorn and Ropetail find a rather small cell, apparently used as a solitary oubliette for confining the most troublesome inmates. The heavy iron door that is the only exit has been dented and knocked off its hinges. Some of the dents resemble massive human fists, others more like a hammer swung with incredible strength.

In the dim light from the floor above, you can see some writing smeared on one of the walls in blood. Judging by the color, it's been maybe a day since it was scrawled. 'So hungry, the mouths are coming. Gnashing teeths, cutting through flesh and metal, stone and earth.'

Other than that, the cell is unoccupied. The sole corridor leads into the darkness…

Tublat, You know that the only way out of the oubliette is past a portcullis that has a heavy bar in case of escapes. That would be a good place for an ambush. Here in the cell block, you spot some odd tracks, almost like large rats but somehow unnatural heading off towards the guard chambers. Whatever made them seem to have chewed into the stone walls themselves. Gorn mentioned a Lord Borak as being behind this, but your visions and experiences here argue against that. You feel that whatever caused this came from below the prison, not from without.

What do you do?

Sorry for the delay all.

There aren't many light sources down here, but if you can see in the dark you can easily get by. Or get a torch. If you need both hands, your followers will act as torchbearers.

Thief | Lvl 1 | XP 4 | HP: 21/21 | Armour 1 | Damage d8 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 1 | INT -1 | WIS 0 | CHA 1

"'Mouths are coming?' Maybe those are the mouths that the prisoners we saw earlier lacked. If they can cut through metal, maybe they are what cut open this cell. And I wonder who is the 'hungry' one, the author of this inscription, or the mouth..."

Also, I didn't get an answer to the question if there are traps here. I'll also ask if anything else is hidden here, thanks to the aid.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Huh? <reads previous posts> Oh crap, I did completely forget! And after telling you that you got the other two questions even!

Yizid, There aren't any traps set in the pit or cell, but just down the hallway there are a bunch of bone chimes hanging from the ceiling. A simple device, but it would alert anyone nearby once someone walked by. You do find a couple torches that look like they were knocked from the wall when the door was ripped off, and a small cabinet mounted just outside the cell. Inside are two vials of bloodweed extract, and some broken vials. Probably used by the guards to help subdue unruly prisoners. Bloodweed extract is a touch poison that can be used on a weapon. The poisoned creature deals -1d4 damage until cured.

It really is an unfortunate coincidence that the one time you didn't ask about a trap there was one.

And to clarify, the small tracks Tublat spotted are in the cell block above the pit, back on the ground floor.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

I've also added the Gaol map to my profile, and it will be updated as you progress. It's really just there to show what rooms lead where and give a general layout.

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

Tublat has been here so many times he could walk around with his eyes closed. Door was me, ceiling wasn't open when I was here last. Tublat admits, this had been his solitary confinement cell. You gather he also didn't scribble on the wall, much too intricate anyway for his massive fingers.

Ambush by dropgate most likely, but not certain. Guards, you have keys? Much easier than this again. Tublat inquires to the group of cowards up there.

Door was tough, bring me keys.

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

Ramonde yawns, takes out a small piece of parchment, and begins inscribing the writing.

Thief | Lvl 1 | XP 4 | HP: 21/21 | Armour 1 | Damage d8 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 1 | INT -1 | WIS 0 | CHA 1

"So there could be an ambush there?" Yizid asks. He studies the chimes they had just passed. "If there's an ambush there, it's certainly aware of us; we set off an alarm."

"Surprising them is no longer an option, so we can only choose between meeting them, although they expect us, or leaving them there for now. Both options are dangerous."

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Oh no, you spotted the chimes with your Trap Expert move. No one has tripped them yet. If you've ever played Skyrim, the chimes are basically the strings hanging in some of the caves that rattle when you bump them.

Disabling them is simple, just hold them still while you carefully cut them down. You still get a chance to sneak up on the possible enemies ahead.

Thief | Lvl 1 | XP 4 | HP: 21/21 | Armour 1 | Damage d8 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 1 | INT -1 | WIS 0 | CHA 1

I misunderstood "the one time you didn't ask about a trap." Disregard what I wrote earlier, then.
I assume a roll is necessary to disable it, right?

"There's a trap here that could alert the ambush of our presence. I'll need to untie it, with help from the gods."

And yep, Tricks of the Trade will do it. And your new buddies can assist you, traps are something they know. Their assistance gives you a +1 to your roll, making it a 10. It's not dangerous or degrading, so they'll do it without any problems if you want them to.

Gorn reaches one massive hand up and holds the dry bone still while Yizid hacks at the string connecting it to the ceiling.

"This is the dumbest ambush I have ever seen," he mumbles, disappointed that there weren't have a dozen spearmen trying to stick metal in his guts as soon as he jumped down.

But Gorn has a strange idea of entertainment.

"No one else needs these, eh?" says Ropetail, as quietly as she can while still credibly asking anyone. If no one immediately claims them, she pockets the two vials of bloodweed extract with a grin, tucking them inside a pocket of her robe. Then, she waits to see that the trap is fully disabled before indicating to Yizid that she's ready to move forward.

"I can scout ahead, see if there's an ambush prepared for us," she offers.

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

Yizid's eyes bulge when he sees the poison. "That thing looks dangerous, be careful."

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Gorn, You easily hold the cords still as Yizid takes them down, but your gut stirs again as you hold one of the bones in your hand. Marrow, delicious marrow…

Ramonde, It does seem like Gorn is acting strangely. Aegelm mentioned the madmen behaving similarly before they went insane. Perhaps something is affecting his mind?

Ropetail, You can scout ahead if you want, be careful whatever it is doesn't see or hear you.

Ramonde walks up to Gorn. He glances at the parchment, glances at Gorn, glances at the parchment again, and finally looks at Gorn. Then, he pointedly whispers a few words.
Using arcane art, dispel an enchantment. Oh yeah, I've decided that the term ally, in the context of the arcane art move, means "Anyone who would willingly share a good drink with me".

As Yizid cuts each bone done, Gorn puts them all in a pouch on his belt. As they resume their sojourn forward he starts idly crunching on the old bones like peppermint sticks.

He glances down at Ramonde. "Eh? What do you, man? Speak up, an ye have aught to say. Else stay back and give my sword-arm room to swing."
He takes another crunchy bite of the bone, not seeing anything wrong.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Sorry everyone, had a dentist appointment yesterday amd was pretty out of it.

Ramonde, your first attempt to clear Gorn's mind doesn't seem to have done anything, and getting his attention is pretty difficult as he chews away. Maybe some food would get him to focus? Give Gorn one of your rations to eat and the second attempt will work.

Ropetail, you scurry down the corridor stealthily and come upon four of the mutilated madmen watching a barred gate. One of them gets up and starts pacing back and forth down the hallway, unaware of your presence. Problem is getting back to the others now. You could easily run her through, but then the other three would be right on top of you. Or you could toss a rock towards the gate to distract her, but then they'd be a bit more alert when you come back. You can deal your damage to the crazed prisoner and alert the other three, or cause a distraction to get back to the group, your choice. No other rolls needed yet.

Male Human Bard, 1 || Hp:9/13 || Base Dmg:d6 ||Leather Armor (1 Armor, 1 Weight) || Dueling Rapier(Close, Precise, 2 Weight)

Ramonde digs into his pack and pulls out a drumstick. He hands it to Gorn. Maybe this will help?

Gorn puts a half-eaten leg bone back in his pouch and looks at Romonde askance. "Help with what?" he says, having no idea why the man was acting so oddly. He'll have to speak to Yizid later. Still, he's not one to turn down free food.

Gorn takes hold of the proffered drumstick in one meaty fist. His rock-hard incisors bite down on the savory leg, bisecting the leg...and biting off the tip of the bone underneath.

Gorn chews the tasty meat and the crunching bone with gusto. "Much obliged," he says through the hearty bite.

Ropetail doesn't want to draw the attention of the other three, even if she did manage to kill her first target in one blow. Even that wasn't a sure thing.

Best to go with the distraction. Using arcane telekinesis (a minor cantrip,) the mousefolk picks up a small rock and hurls it against the far wall, bolting back to her friends as soon as they react.

Gorn looks at the drumstick, then to the bones in his sack, then back to the drumstick. "And now I am eating chicken flesh. So long as it was not your bone I was eating, what matter it?" He stuffs the rest of the drumstick in his mouth and scrapes the rest of the meat off with his teeth. He looks at the cleaned chicken bone and stuffs the white bone in his sack. He doesn't want to eat bones now...and, indeed, can not recall why he wanted them before. Or, indeed, that he had -ever- wanted bones. It just...seemed like a really good idea at the time.

He shakes his head and worries no more upon it. "Now if we are through critiquing my dietary habits, it seems that whatever other mystery is here we had best be about going through it."

Gorn hefts his weapon and shield and tromps on. He could do with a fight to bring about some normality.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Just as Gorn finishes up his chicken leg and heads off, Ropetail comes scurrying down the hallway. A couple garbled voices can be heard down the hallway. "Maybe it was sone of the mouths? I definitely heard something over there by the gate."

Tublat, you aren't certain they're hostile, but you do sense the same sort of madness that has been affecting many of the prisoners.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

So as it stands right now, there are four people at the end of the corridor, possibly hostile, probably insane according to Tublat. Your options for moving on are down the corridor where the people are, or back up the pit to the cell blocks. Aegelm and his buddies are hanging around, waiting to for you to take the lead. According to them there is something at in the lower levels that is causing this mess.

A discussion thread, obviously. Bonds, OoC, other stuff.

Also, some questions, answer whichever one you feel like.

• Who is/was Kas the Bloody?
• Why were you all sent to the Gaol?
• Who sent you?
• How far away is the nearest settlement and what is it like?
• What is the prevailing climate around the Gaol?
• What time of year is it?

Feel free to propose any other question you think should be answered immediately.

Some general gameplay stuff I try to stick to.
• Any NPC who gets a speaking part should get a name. Feel free to create some if you go shopping or harass a guard or whatever.
• Throw out as much backstory or lore as you feel like, unless it impacts another player. If you want to add something about dwarven society and someone else is a dwarf, check with them first.
• Suggestions are always appreciated!

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Oh yeah, everyone should answer this:
• Where are you from?

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

Tublat is boss of this joint. None guarddare mess with Tublat, none inmate dumb enough either. Tublat do well with fur coat in cold Gaol.

Tublat right hand man was guard called Henry, but he got himself transferred to a different joint when Tublat found he had side business with Tublat as 'muscle'. Tublat boss, not Henry! Tublat not care for coin, only being boss.

Tublat feel new group come in Gaol, Tublat lead them around. Tublat good leader, or else.

Only Kas could ever beat Tublat, he's why Tublat in Gaol. Is Kas' personal prison or some.

Tublat let group in for now, but when group leave, Tublat come with them.

Tublat is probably not the strongest, but anyone stronger just lets him believe it. Tublat knows, he can sense it, but he likes playing boss so as long as they let him, he's the King Kong of this prison.

Ramonde sits in his cell, his limbs shackled to the wall. It's been 12 hours since his last meal, and he is hungry. Trying to ignore the pain in his stomach, Ramonde thinks about his past, and how he got here. He chuckles, remembering the crime that sent him here. In his mind, he stands in the center of a large ring of people. He shouts wors of courage and strength, and blows his horn. The mass of men and women charge at he monster that is Kas the Bloody. As his vision ends, Ramonde ponders why he finds this funny. Hundreds of men, women, and children died that day, during the failed uprising. Perhaps it's the foolish hope he gave them. The dreams of a young naive, self. Ramonde shakes his head and closes his eyes, thinking of the horn strapped to his belt, the horn he stole from his birthplace in the far away city of Vassa.....

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

I just realized one question was a bit ambiguous. 'Why were you sent to the Gaol?' was intended to be what task were you sent to do, what are you there looking for. I wasn't planning to have anyone actually in jail, just there on a mission for some reason.

Unless you want to start locked up. I can work with that too.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Don't feel restricted to the pre-written bonds either. Use them if you want, but I find some of them annoying (Cleric's convert someone bond comes to mind). If something comes to mind, write it down.

• Who is/was Kas the Bloody?
• Where are you from?
Kas the Bloody was childhood friend from when the two lived in the outskirts of Mandu who probably knows just enough about Yizid to figure out that he's not what he makes himself out to be. While Kas started working with the government in the city, Yizid took to wayfaring.

• Why were you all sent to the Gaol?
• Who sent you?

Kas himself called for Yizid, and he will probably soon know why.

Should we work on bonds?

There doesn't seem to be much information on Gaol itself, so I just started musing on the political and economic structure and this is what I came up with. Sorry if I over step. =) Also, which questions do you need us to answer? Do you want all of us to say why we are here?

The fortress of Gaol is a dominating stone structure that makes up the epicenter of the small village of HardWheat, so named because the surrounding farmsteads enjoy the region's year-round mild weather and produce a crop that is good for making hard, durable bread or hard, durable adult beverages.

The structure, though long since re-purposed for holding persons of ill repute, is rumored to have once been the home of a Lord-Commander Martel and the center of the city of Aquitane. Legend holds that the human commander, fearing the coming tide of evil, sent away a loyal servant of his to infiltrate a local goblin tribe, lead by a terrible being called Meatsnacks.
Yes! I finally get to use his backstory! =)

Exactly what happened after that is foggy, but that the city is no longer called Aquitane and that the fortress has fallen on hard times seems to give evidence of the lack of success of that ill-fated mission.

Hardwheat is a half a day's ride from the trade center of Hub, a meeting place of several different roads, where the thick, heavy beers made by the city's brewers are welcomed by dry throats from far corners. This also allows rumors and bounties from strange, exotic employers to bring in wanderers and adventurers from diverse locals.

In one such wineshop, called "The Sweet Doomed Angel," a big man, clad in a massive suit of chain with an ancient blue-tinged sword riding on his back, hefts a great wine jug, slaking his thirst from a hard march. Another man walks in, much slighter of build than the wine-drinker, possibly a guard from the nearby Gaol from his demeanor. The guard takes a seat next to the chainmailed warrior.
"You have it?" asks the big man.
"Aye, Gorn. I gots it. Meet me at the assigned time and place. I'll get it to you."
"Do not fail me, Doric Martus. Our...mutual friend expects results."
"Aye, aye. 'Victory requires no excuses. Defeat allows none.' No need to remind me."
"Good. And Doric? Fail me not."

Well there is some info on the Gaol now. Kudos for mentioning Meatsnacks.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Alright, Gameplay thread is going live, bonds and what not can be finalized as everyone checks in.

The town of Hardwheat has been plagued recently by insanity and madmen. Kas has called for foolhardy adventurers to find the cause, which he suspects is coming from the fortress he has been using as a prison. Excitement, good booze, and hopefully, good pay as well.

Oh yeah, check the info tab for info about local cities and world stuff. If you want to add something, post it and I'll put it in.

Thanks for that summary post Gorn! Just found this thread, I'll be answering my questions later this afternoon. :)

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

So, the only answer you didn't get from me yet is where Tublat is from. He doesn't know what time of year it is, he can't aptly track time in here. It's like continuous winter to him.

Tublat is originally from a far away jungle known to him as Homewoods, but others refer to it as the Rainforest of Isla Plata, known for its Silverback population. It is quite a large territory off the coast of the Silver City of Argus. The city looks like it's literally made of Silver. This is not exactly true, it is a mixture of different metals, mostly sheeted anyway. Loads of glass everywhere.

The jungle itself is only inhabited by tribes of people, as well as many, many beasts. There are rumors of dinosaurs in the area. Tublat didn't live there long enough to confirm those rumors.

Tublat was cast out on an early, failed attempt at overthrowing the herd leader Kerchak. Poachers snatched him up soon after and he was dragged away to the Silver City, there loads of experiments were done and his latent psionic abilities were uncovered. Everyone in the facility went mad in about a week, Tublat walked out and set off to wander the Earth, he went on his way to find the highest of leaders throughout the land with the ambition of overthrowing them and becoming the highest of leaders in the world.

One thing lead to another and when rumors spread to Tublat of Kas the Bloody he went out to try and overthrow the guy, but Tublat got beat once more. Now stuck in Gaol, he has let everyone know that he runs this place and Kas is the only willing one around who can take Tublat out when he's pissed off with someone. Since Kas hasn't been around much, Tublat has accrued quite the death toll.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Tublat, if you're currently in the Gaol, feel free to pop in anytime.

I'm going to to be using some stuff from Perilous Wilds, a move that may be useful here is:

Stay Sharp
When you are on watch and something approaches, roll+Wis.
On a 10+, you alert everyone early, everyone takes +1 Forward.
On a 7-9, you alert everyone in time.

Hey, just wondering, how do I start out. Since I'm locked up? Do I just pop in or something? :)

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

As a suggestion, maybe you and Tublat are hanging out in the courtyard? Hiding from the weird stuff that's going on inside and all. I don't want you two excluded for too long, so I'd say just pop in and introduce yourselves now. You're also both in a good position to Spout some lore about what's going on deeper inside.

• Who is/was Kas the Bloody?
• Why were you all sent to the Gaol?
• Who sent you?
• How far away is the nearest settlement and what is it like?
• What is the prevailing climate around the Gaol?
• What time of year is it?

Ropetail is a mousefolk that is originally from the city of Aquitane before it was smashed by the tribe of Meatsnacks the goblin-chief. With a savvy typical of her race, she (I'm making Ropetail female) escaped the city before it was sacked. It was a beautiful city, with whole neighborhoods of ratfolk and mousefolk living in peace together, but that dream is gone now. Time to attach herself to the strongest ruler around and make herself useful to them, in order to make her lot in life better.

I only ever heard of Kas from stories, legends told of his brutality in combat. My family sent me. They've made a hovel for themselves, living in the wild like barbarians in the hopes that their oldest daughter can raise a fortune working for Kas and doing jobs for him. Solemnly, Ropetail swore to her family that she would put her arcane duelist's talents to good use.

As Tublat said, it's winter now, so my family is very lucky to have kept some of the food stores from back when they were city-dwellers. The winters in this part of the world are long, and cold, and we're about 3 months into it. Only 5 more to go...

@Ramonde&Tublut: Yeah, this probably isn't so much a high-security modern american prison, so much as an ad hoc Mexican prison, which is basically a city with a wall of guards around it. (Mel Gibson was in a movie called "Get the Gringo" that kinda touched on this.)

And the area seems to be undergoing some kind of quasi-zombie plague, so, really, whatever you want to say your were doing at this point would probably be pretty much in the realm of acceptable to the narrative. =)

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Yizid, you do get a +1 for the Discern Realities move. Sadly, it's not enough... but hey, XP!

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

I know Tublat wouldn't do any 'hiding', but most of the below-the-surface going-ons he would have the idea that they are happening, he would sense to keep them on the last place in his priorities of subjugation though. As soon as this group of adventurers comes in, Tublat will immediately go to greet them. It's one of his jobs as boss of this place to welcome the newbies and show them how things work around here.

Probably a degree of reverence for those who know the legends / history of the Driders / The Umbra, but for the average villager who hasn't, I expect a large degree of fear. Taking these two things (spiders and humans) and combining them in this way looks horrifyingly unnatural.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

No problem. Just to explicitly state it, you and Tublat have all your starting gear right now.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Takesh, I just remembered that the drider's Black Magic move has a slightly different list of tags, which always bugged me, so you can use the Mage tag list if you want. Only differences are that the debilitating tag is -1 damage instead of half, making your spells subtle is an option, and you can use any element instead of just using fire. I'm also fine with any of the motivation/alignments you have listed. I Am The Last sounds especially cool.

Everbody, don't forget Bonds. Regarding end-of-session stuff like bonds and alignment, I'll either just call for them every so often, or trust you all to not go overboard and let you just mark XP for them when you feel appropriate. Thoughts on me declaring an end of session when there's a suitable break in the plot, or would you rather just check off bonds and alignment in play when they are fulfilled?

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

Proposed alignment: "Chaotic: I defy anyone who would try to give me orders."

Proposed bonds:
Ropetail smells more like prey than a hunter.
Gorn's mind is so simple, it hurts to read.
Takesh is puny and foolish, but amusing to me.
I suspect Yizid might be afraid of me, Kas must have told him of me.
I have seen the dreams of Ramonde and from what I've seen, he digusts me.

These will have to do for now. I have noticed a trend that nobody seems to value Wisdom, funny.

Oh, just remembered, do I need to come up with a racial move or is that up to the DM?

Ropetail would get offended, then think about it a moment and realize your assessment is mostly accurate, if she knew what you thought of her.

It's up to you, Tublat, but I will need to approve it.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Ropetail, do you have a racial move for mousefolk?

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

I can make telepathic connections freely, since "Tublat... can't...talk...well."

Would that be alright? Cause otherwise I need to roll wisdom every time I try to talk.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Yeah, or maybe as long as you have at least 1 Focus, you can use telepathy for free. I think it might be fun to listen to you actually talk on occasion. Telepathy at will would be fine, too.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

Tublat, thinking a bit more about it, how does 'You may use telepathy on nearby creatures at will as long as you can see them' sound? That way, you can "speak" intelligibly with everyone, but there's still a use for spending Focus on telepathy.

Hyper-Intelligent Gorilla Psion 1

I'll generally tend to have at least 1 line of actual speaking for every longer interaction Tublat has. So whenever he speaks more than two sentences with his mind, expect him to say something with his mouth as well.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

I am writing a ballad about the adventures of Gorn

If you haven't seen it yet, there's info on the local steadings in the Campaign Info tab. Currently there's some basic info on Hardwheat, Mandu (aka Hub), and some other local steadings. If you think something should be added, hit me up and it'll get written.

I'm also curious about the Elephant Tower, Ramonde's birthplace of Vassa, what's left of Aquitane, and this Silver City. Kas's dominion could use a name as well.

Aye. Once you get 1+ current level XP you can level after a bit of downtime. One other thing to keep in mind is there's no strict initiative or turn system, just do something when it seems to fit.

??? ??? GM 666+13i | The Gaol

For once a session XP stuff like resolving Bonds and hitting Alignment/Drive, I'm going to say mark XP when you feel it is appropriate. No waiting for the 'end of session' move, if you think you met your alignment criteria, give yourself an XP. If you think a bond has been resolved, ask whoever it is with and give yourself an XP if they agree. I'll give out the party rewards for learning something cool, killing something cool, and looting something cool as appropriate.

You might end up leveling slightly faster this way, but I think that might be a good thing for PbP. Keep the rewards coming and all. Try not to go crazy though. ;)

You wanted to know about Vassa, right? Here it is :):

Ramonde climbs up on stage, and begins to stretch. Looking around, he begins to assess the mood of the crowd. Slightly bored, he decides to give them a good one. Ahem he says, and his voice carries around the room, enhanced by magic. I'm here to tell you a tale. A tale of a once great city, once filled with okay to great people He laughs at his little joke. That was just a jest, none of them are great! He continues to laugh, before realizing the crowd was bored. ....The city was called Vassa, and it was the greatest forge that has ever heard the ring of hammer on steel. Dwarves competed to have the chance to forge weapons and test their mettle there. Elves, even with their haughty pride, grudgingly approved of the master craftsmanship. That was, until, the great Epidemic. Mere days before disaster, a great wizard-prophet arrived in the city, going by the name of Nostradamus. He proclaimed that the forges shall one day stop hearing the ring of hammer upon steel, and that the mighty gates enclosing the city will one day fall. He was, of course, kicked out, for the "heresy" he spread. Ramonde smiles, the rowd now bought into his story, hook, line, and sinker. He gulps. Little did we know, he was right. A devastating plague spread through the town, carried by blood, fire, and magic. None survived...... Ramondes grieving face quickly turns into a smile Except me. Only I know how I preformed this feat, and only I shall know..... The things I did....... are too horrible to tell. Ramonde somberly drops a rose on the stage and walks away, while the crowd's attention remains transfixed upon the rose he dropped. By the time they manage to tear their attention away from the flower on stage, the mysterious and charismatic bard is gone. None think to check their pockets until after they try and pay for their drinks.
