"You've been selected to test a new virtual reality MMO! Do you wish to explore a wondrous world?"

Yes
No

A message every gamer wants to see at some point or another. With VRMMOs on the rise around the world, everyone's competing for an account in their genre of choice and keeping tabs on new developments, you haven't heard anything about Golarion Online. No one seems to know anything about it, and dismiss it as a hoax. Still, something made you click Yes and put on the headgear...

House Rules:
Character Creation Rules for “Golarion Online, Beta Testers”

20 point buy
Max HP at level one, roll every level after.

Paizo Classes: Core, Base, Hybrid. No Summoners(Monster Trainers, below, take their place), Unchained, or Occult.
3rd Party Classes: Artisan, Spell-less Ranger and it's Variant, Monster Trainer if you have the pdf/book from Northwinter press(sold on Paizo and a few other places), Scholar,
Tactician, and the Vitalist.

Two Traits, but no drawbacks.
Favored Class Bonuses: Only +1 hit point or skill point.

Melee Feats: Feat trees are consolidated into the first feat, but you must pick a “path” to go when you take the feat and you gain the next feats when you qualify for them. Talk to me about the path if it's unclear. This is to help melee martials compete a bit more with their ranged counterparts.
Example: a character selects Combat Expertise and picks the Dirty Trick path. When he qualifies to take the feats Improved Dirty Trick, Greater Dirty Trick, etc they gain it as a bonus feat.

Magic Item Creation: Dynamic Magic Item Creation from Pathfinder Unchained will be used, with the exception that the time is cut down immensely. When you start creating the magic item you make all the checks one after the other until the item is either finished, destroyed, or you simply failed. I'll roll for the events after we find out how many checks are needed.

Other Variant Rules: Ask and we'll see. Called shots are in.

Video Game stuff: HP and level display for allies, along with names. You can sends messages to your fellow players as well, as the spell sending. Items are stored in your Inventory, and while they aren't visible, they still count against encumbrance and can be stolen as normal. Think Sword Art Online, since that's part of the inspiration for me to try and run a game again.

Thanks to Jaster Kite, I'm going to try and run a game of my own, inspired by his. You'll be taking part as people controlling online avatars and exploring a new game world by taking part in a starting quest called The Dragon's Demand. Of course, that's the same name as the module made by Paizo, and the game I'll be running. :)

I will say there are going to be times I won't post for a few days though, so the game probably won't move as fast as it could. I apologize in advance.

One last thing. Don't talk about your characters here. Send me a private message. It's a test run made up of strangers, not a group of people getting together to plan out who plays what in the new game. Any questions you may have can be asked here though.

Cool. Can anyone join?

Hi Db3 :3

Shadow Lodge

Feel free to apply, DK.

Races: It was pointed out I have no information on this. As long as it's nothing like a Gargoyle or a Drider(as presented in the Advanced Race Guide), it should be okay. Just run it by me first, especially if its third party. No custom races.

Could you explain the feat trees thing more?

Silver Crusade

Best part is i originally designed this character to comment on peoples stats, in this it would be an actual thing so color me interested. that said i will be applying.

So no occult or unchained? the posting on that was a bit confusing.

havent decided on what i will be applying as quite yet but i have a background and everything all set

Yes, I can. Let's use Power Attack as an example.

Power Attack, Cleave Path: Picking this option would give you the following feats as bonus feats when you qualify for them: Cleave, Cleaving Finish, Improved Cleaving Cleaving Finish, and Great Cleave

Power Attack, Bull Rush Path: Would give you Improved Bull Rush, Bull Rush Strike, and Greater Bull Rush. If you had Mounted COmbat as well, you'd get Unseat.

Garidan Layafette wrote:

This is correct. Variant systems from Unchained can be considered though if interest is shown.

dotting for interest.

Silver Crusade

Alrighty then, no problem he can still function as something else. know just to pick that something else. Maybe lore warden.

Btw, i like the feat tree idea. never thought of that as a buff for melee.

For the feat tree idea, do you choose one at the start, or as you gain more feats?

Shadow Lodge

At the start.

Silver Crusade

actually that brings up a good point, does the feat tree thing apply to bonus feats received from the class. and can those feats be used in the tree system as well.

Lvl 1 starting gold Right?

Shadow Lodge

Starting gold as a 1st level, yes. Max it out. :)

The Bonus Feats from class features I'll need to think about.

Silver Crusade

ohh so much more i can do then.

I mention cause Lore warden gets combat expertise and i'm going into dirty tricks

I have a question as well: Are you going to be doing a feat tree for spellcasting as well? For that matter, what is the plan for spellcasters? Most mmos require that you specialize in a particular type of magic (summoning, healing, one or more elements).

Shadow Lodge

Spell casting remains the same, and their feat trees are unchanged. The only feet trees that work like those described above are the Melee Feats.

Having just watched, and falling in love with, SOA, I'd like to show my interest.

This is super cool and I also love SOA so I'm down.

Shadow Lodge

Careful, SAO II will make you really sad at one point. It's an awesome anime.

Feats: I've spent some time thinking on it and have come to a decision regarding bonus feats that come from classes.

If a class gives a specific feat, such as Lore Warden's Combat Expertise, then you must choose a path to take when you gain that feat.

If a class does not give a specific feat, like fighter's bonus feats, or gives a choice like the monk, then they do not get the path benefits(a monk that picks Dodge as a bonus feat does not gain Mobility or Spring Attack). This applies to temporary feats, like those gained from a Brawler's martial versatility.

Does that make sense?

Silver Crusade

makes perfect sense brah.

And the SAO series i just stopped watching it, found it entertaining. Sinon is my personal favorite character

Yeah. It makes my plans for a badass dwarven fighter sad, but it makes sense.

Since it's going to be a lot less good than I thought it would, would you consider handing out advice for good favored enemies? I get that dragon will probably be thematic, but maybe it should be picked up at fifth level instead of 1st?

Silver Crusade

Maybe reptilian favored enemies lizardfolk, kobold....Wait not that last one, i mean i love kobolds but they are in no way a threat. if the theme is going to be draconic, theres a good chance reptilians, will be involved

Garidan Layafette wrote:

So Humanoid(reptillian)? I might go with that one. It's just a bit nerve-wracking, it might never come up.

Silver Crusade

well yea thats just my guess, i figure where theirs dragons theres things that worship them.

I usually don't use rangers due to the not knowing if the enemy will show up thing.

Shadow Lodge

Animals, undead, humanoid(reptilian), dragon, and monstrous humanoids all show up in this book.

Silver Crusade

undead? didn't see that coming know i'm thinking Zombie kobolds...still not a threat

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

See, you say that...

Silver Crusade

yea i know, regret incoming...

Most kobolds in modules that I've seen aren't terrifying... no, those are played by folks who know how to make them the scariest thing you've ever come across. Like a buddy of mine who said he summoned a kobold zombie and had it carry a boatload of acid flasks around the enemy flank.

And the worst thing is, they never quit coming back.

I think the main problem with kobolds is there's always more kobolds to be had. Sort of like rats, really.

Silver Crusade

Originally in myth Kobolds were some kind of Dog rat creature actually

Shadow Lodge

They were canine-ish in older editions of D&D too, if I remember correctly.

I've never seen the scholar class before. I'll make one of those to app with.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Application sent :P

Considering will choose something involving combat reflexes for my character's feat tree. Don't know what yet.

Shadow Lodge

Six submissions so far with good ideas all around. :)

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Since this is an MMO deal, how much if any background did you want?

Shadow Lodge

Just a bit about the "player". Maybe why they might've been picked or why they'd click yes.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Just sent it over :P

How long will this recruitment be running for, anyways?

Shadow Lodge

I'll be ending it late tomorrow night and going through the submissions to pick. I'll have it down by monday at the latest, so please have your character finished and all in one place by then. :)

I'm interested too. I've been seeing games like this pop up recently, so I'd like to try one. Can we use the "background skill" rules from unchained?

I'll send you a PM asap. I have three ideas in mind.

Shadow Lodge

What does everyone think of background skills? In this type of game, is it a sensible idea or no? I hadn't considered it before.

Silver Crusade

I personally like the idea, background skill add a certain roleplaying element beyond the mechanics that is important for a good game

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I'll take all the skill points I can get

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Application sent, could leave or take background skills, whatever makes it better for all participants.

Shadow Lodge

Background skills are a go then. Just mark them in the profile/online character sheet you're using.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I got so many profiles I don't use...if its ok I'd like to wait to see if he gets approved before I make another alias.

Shadow Lodge

Put all of it into a PM then please. Marking feat paths and background skills for ease.
