Wren fires another arrow into the giant's knee, adding more kindling to the flames, staggering the giant. The giant falls to a knee as blood and tears stream down it's face mixed with rage. Torgan slams an axe on either side of it's neck ending it's miserable life.
Seeing the giant fall the orc goes wide eyed and tried to run away. Forgetting it was shackled to the giant it is yanked backwards into the dirt. Looking up it is surrounded by a series of spears as a bloodied Kurst Grath rides up on a horse. The giant got a little away from us as we drew it close to the wall. The man says catching his breath.
Looking to the group You guys all right? Glad to see you are still alive. He says with a smile.
Quickly he begins barking orders for the squad of men to begin securing the area.
Riding up to Kraygan he says. With their siege engine and Cave Giant taken care of the Orcs seem to be scattering. That being said this is not over yet I am afraid. The guards saw a lone humanoid accompanied by wolves dash into the tunnel that the Cave Giant created behind you almost immediately followed by shortly after by another humanoid figure.
He shifts on the horse as it prances about. Please enter the tunnel, secure whatever is inside that they are after and apprehend or flush out whoever is hiding within. I will place guards outside the tunnel's entrance to make sure that no one else enters or exit's it.

His mustache puffing out with every breath, Kraygan is too tired to properly celebrate the defeat of the cave giant. Leaning heavily on the horn of his saddle, he nods solemnly over the corpse at Torgan. "Good work cousin." His eyes pass over the others. "Well fought. We're all Giantslayers now."
He is still catching his wind as Kurst rides up and secures the area, and when the man approaches Kraygan with new orders he nods, and takes a deep breath just shy of a sigh.
He also turns to look at Wren. Clearly deferring to the elf. "Looks like we ain't done yet, Capt'n."
This battle is brutal. Very little chance to upgrade equipment or resupply. We're right next to the smith. Any chance to upgrade weapons or armor?

Wren takes to a knee, almost mimicking the giant's fall with one of his own. He rubs his left knee while breathing through open mouth. He stares at Kurst with tired eyes, unbelieving that there might be more.
Really? There is more!? WOW.
Slowly, he nods to the militia commander; wearily he rises to his two elven feet. He stows his bow, unwilling yet to acquiesce.
He also turns to look at Wren. Clearly deferring to the elf. "Looks like we ain't done yet, Capt'n."
Wren scowls. And scowls again, glancing at Kraygan. You piddlespotter. ;)
No. Never again. NEVER AGAIN.
Wren shakes his head, clearly trying to get more than this battle, this carnage, this disaster out of his memory.
"Kurst, we'll do what needs to be done. Do you have any way to aid us? Or do you have any idea what they could want inside?" Wren turns to Kurst.

Yea I read through this book and was thinking holy crap!
First they have the assassins that sneak in which is an easy coupe de grace.
Second there is the incorporeal shadow rats with little to no set up for them as you are in the middle of an investigation.
Lastly it hops right into the longest day scenario where you are out of resources almost immediately. And just when you think it is done with the Giant boss there is more haha.
@Kraygan- The Blacksmith was knocked unconscious in the house. You saved her life when you pulled the beam off of her but she is still unconscious. That and her building, The Clamor took a flaming boulder to it.
Kurst looks to Wren. I didn't even know this cavern was here. The orcs must have been looking for this He says as he points to the painted white sword on the stone's surface. [/b] These symbols have been showing up for weeks.
What aid do you require I have just a little basic equipment here but I have no men to spare unfortunately.

When Kurt shows up, Van slowly pulls himself to a sitting position, one arm resting on a raised knee, listening. After being asked to investigate the tunnel, Van falls back to ground, closes his eyes, and says. "Balls! Angradd help me....."

Wren nods to Kurst and at Vanderhoff's words, uncertain to which he is agreeing.
Balls.
"Why don't we just cave in the...uh..cave?" Wren asks, looking to the dwarfkind near him. "We have grenades, we can get picks, or whatever..." Wren says without much knowledge of what it takes to mine or unmine or do stonework. "Let's just collapse the cave and be done. Who cares what is inside? Let them die."

Normally I would agree with you Wren but I am afraid our dwarven friend is correct. If we collapse it we risk the chances of cutting off or damaging the water reservoir and that is Trunau's only source of fresh water.
Looking to Jorgan Krath replies. I am afraid that I don't have any myself. All I possess is a small sack of Alchemist's fire that we gathered from a band of orcs and some simple weapons and arrows.

"We can drag some big boulders. We have yaks, and even a horse. I'll seal it up tight. Whomever is inside can try to dig themselves out," Wren offers. "It's just..."
...my knees hurt.
...they are still dwarves.
...I'm tired and want my bed.
...I want to die under the open sky. Don't make me die in a cave like a lesser mortal.
...ah piddlespot.
Wren shakes his head. Then nods, his better ideas and objections dying on his lips.
I still draw breath. I can still die doing something noble.
He reaches for his waterskin, intending to take a long drink...then looks over at the dwarves.
"Do any of you have a real drink to share before we go in?"

Gossamer cobwebs hang from the ceiling of this rough tunnel, and the misty spray from the Hopesprings waterfall outside glimmers faintly on strands of spider's silk. Chunks of rubble lie scattered on the floor amid piles of dirt.

At the entrance, Wren dismounts, leaving his magic mount to guard the entrance until it disappears. He checks his arrows and few remaining alchemist fires he has.

Torgan steps further into the cave with the rest in tow.
The air in this cavern is humid but cool, and a thin sheen of condensation coats it's rocky walls. A narrow passage exits the cavern to the west. To the south the floor drops away into darkness, while a bridge of stone leads to another cavern to the east. The sound of trickling water echoes throughout the cavern.
Torgan looks over the ledge to the east. He sees Dark water, thick mud and silt cover the floor of this cavern, separated from the rest of the cavern by steep cliffs and muddy escarpments. A trickle of water can be heard from the east. Down in the water is a wounded Flood Troll. You recognize the species from your battle earlier in the Plague House Basement. The troll is standing in the water while it's wounds quickly heal. It seems to pay little mind to you.
As Torgan looks on, a cacophony of shrieks is heard from the western tunnel as hundreds of rats pour from the cavern. Looking a bit more closely they are no ordinary rats but rather undead horrors with rotting translucent skin. The mass of bodies almost seems to blend into the shadows making it difficult to discern where they are actually at.

While Jorgan begins blessing his weapon the swarm surges forward as the rats begin to climb all over Haggis.

"Haggis!!" Kraygan cries as his faithful yak stumbles under the strength-sapping bites of the shadow-rats.
The last time the group faced rats like these they had few weapons capable of harming them, and Kraygan made some mental notes to better arm themselves for such an event in the future. He grabs his flask of holy water, but it seems a pitifully small amount to employ against such numbers.
Then he gets a foolish notion.
"Those grenades! The magical ones that don't miss! Light and drop em here! Haggis and I'll keep em gathered!"
Guiding Haggis deeper into the swarm, Kraygan smashes the vial of holy water into the rats around his yak's feet.
