Well, that happens when your ship is overstocked with characters who have PC levels. With a staff like that, I can't imagine you really support that pay rate with regular pirating.

We're good for a few months at least.

Regular pirating and solid investments. Everyone knows pirates are big on stock options.

I've added Desolate Bay to the map. I don't have it named, but it's the only whirlpool there.

I've added a map for this night (totally not an upcoming fight), place yourselves how you would be overnight. Yes it's very crowded, Bjorkus likes to keep a massive crew. If you would be below deck during the night, place your avatar in the "Below Deck" box to the left of the map. I'll be adding some of the crew members to that box after the party is done placing themselves.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

The crew's not that large. It takes 12 people just to run the thing. =P

So what's the watch for tonight?

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I assume the entire 'below decks' section is the same for map purposes.

Bjorkus is in the captain's quarters.

Do you mean in regards to the PCs or in general?

Yes, the below decks portion is all generally the same. From there a single move action will get you up on the top deck.

I'll consider the captain's quarters basically below deck, so it will be a move action to get out.

Although remember if you're sleeping then it's a move action to stand up as well.

As for the watch, I want to know who's keeping watch at what time, regardless if they're a PC or an NPC.

Bjorkus will stay up late catching up with the crew. We'll call that first shift.

First Shift: Bjorkus, Luthor, Bandu, Unnamed Pirates 1&2

Second Shift: Toramin, Kal, Chubwart, Unnamed Pirates 3&4

Third Shift: Rilka, Aisha, Gabby, Unnamed Pirates 5&6

If it's not too late I should mention that one of the girls is in the captain's quarters with Bjorkus.

1d4 ⇒ 1

That'd be Zandra.

This is quite the fantasy for you, eh?

We've been at sea for a couple weeks now. Part of being captain is helping the crew pace themselves. =P

I've started playing Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I have to say I'm pretty entertained. By far my favorite moment was the god druffalo (basically a buffalo). I ran into this creature and basically started trying to kill it for no reason (fur drop maybe?), but then it turned around and freakin' one shot my tank. I managed to get it stuck on a rock for almost a full minute, but even slamming it with my 3 DPS characters I only got it to half health. Then it got over the rock and started its rampage. It was a total wipe and I was just laughing at the whole situation.

So I went around and did other stuff, ignoring the god-mode druffalo. At one point I ran into a rift (portals into another dimension that pour out demons, you need to close these) that was summoning this really powerful ice demon I couldn't kill. It was tanky as hell and doing massive amounts of damage. Only my tank could take more than 1-2 hits from it. After a few tries I gave up on that and went to do other things.

At some point later I got a mission about how some farmer lost his prize druffalo. When I followed the mark on my map, it lead me right to the same g~% d+*n druffalo that wiped my party earlier. So basically I had to 'escort' this killing machine back to his farmer. I was on my merry way back when I ran across the rift I was having trouble with earlier. I accidentally got to close and aggroed it, but when one of the little summons of the rift hit the druffalo it turned around and mauled that bastard to death. Oh boy did that give me an idea.

Long story short, I conscripted a wild bovine killing machine to fight something I couldn't kill myself. It was hilarious and I'm still laughing about it. I almost didn't finish the quest just so I could take that creature around with me everywhere because of how utterly dumb its stats are.

Sweet. Did you pick up Iron Bull yet?

I don't even know what that is. I only have about 6 hours on the game, and I've spent about 4 of those hours screwing around exploring the first open area.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

He's one of the companions you pick up early on. You'll understand what I mean when you get him.

I got frustrated with that game because it had a lot of serious bugs on release. I should pick it up again now that a patch or two has come out.

I wish the AIs for the party members were a bit smarter. I taught my support mage an ice wall spell since right now I have three ranged and one melee, but he literally never uses it unless I tell him to.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Yeah, the AI in this version is absolutely terrible. In the previous versions there was a complex system of If/Then clauses you could use to tailor the way your party members functioned. It was a pain in the ass but it worked really well and minimized the need for micromanagement. In Inquisition there's minimal setup but that also means you have to control every little thing your dudes do.

I actually let them go on their own most of the time, but in the harder fights I have to micromanage and pause the fight every few seconds. It makes me a little worried that the truly difficult fights later on will just be nightmares to get through.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

Yup. Be prepared to farm heavily to get ahead in levels, lower the difficulty, or micromanage until your fingers bleed.

I don't mind when games are at one end of the spectrum or another. I love the Fire Emblem series, which is all about turn based strategy on a tactical map, but I also love games like Dark Souls, which is more about player skill and reaction time than reaction. With how the game feels I just want to focus on learning and playing one class and blasting away enemies with the main character, but when things get hard if I don't micromanage all the characters who I don't even fully understand yet then we get rolled.

Remember, you all asked for this.

Especially Dalton.

Is there a way to end the blind effect? like rinsing our eyes?

Ah, I should have mentioned that, my bad. If you failed your save and remain inside the tornado of blood, you cannot end it. Once you step out it persists 1d4 rounds. Flavor-wise it's less "Blood is physically blinding you" and more "A burning liquid is in your eyes", so once you're clear of the area it takes a moment to calm down.

However, I'm going to houserule that if you spend a standard action wiping your eyes and you're outside the area of effect, then it reduces the duration by 1 round. It's not RAW, but it makes sense to me.

You guys have no idea how hard it was to find a vicious looking platypus. That's not even truly a platypus, it's a platypus-bear from the Avatar world.

Shouldn't it be a Fortitude save?

Nope, in this case it's a reflex.

That's weird due to the above description. So, does Rilka's attempt to wipe the blood off of Toramin's face fail?

Yes, it's an odd little ability. I suppose my flavor interpretation could be off and that the blindness is caused by the blood just physically covering your eyes. I've addressed your question in gameplay.

Bjorkus, you can't cast remove fear on a person you can't see or touch.

Actually since I can't attack anyway shaken's not going to matter. Bjorkus will just focus on cleaning the blood from his own eyes.

Cleaning the blood is a standard action, and since you only had 1 round left that means you are no longer blinded. You can take other actions this round if you wish. Re-entering the tornado of blood has no consequences except 1d4 acid damage if you're within the area when it's the enemy's turn.

Gonna have to find their bodies first. Awesome Blow + colossal size = nonsense.

Was there a ballista (or similar weapon) on the ship’s aft? Could Rilka load and fire that in X rounds?

Also, I didn’t specify Rilka bringing along any extracts, does she have any available?

We should put down a baseline on what siege weaponry the Raging Storm has. It's a fairly small pirating vessel, so let's say it's two cannons, one on each side of the boat. They're below decks.

Rilka would totally have extracts available.

The Storm has a balista and a cannon. Where they are is up to Omen.

I sent you the Storm's stat block months ago. It's a standard pirate ship.

One and one then. Let's say the cannon is on the right and ballista is on the left.

The image of the platybear is well-known to me. Monotreme lore is a class feature IRL.

Dalton will get to caress it, albeit not in the sense I might.
