Ooo, didn't know you were a fellow MtG player. Drafting MM3 tomorrow night?
Honestly have no idea. This isn't my usual LGS/LCS, so I'm not sure if they do that kinda draft or not.
If I am able to go, I plan on finally picking up a box of Aether Revolt, which I rather enjoy as a set/plane.

Yeah, it's pretty great, but I just built my first EDH deck, so I've been doing that the past couple of weeks.
If I can scrape the money together, some friends and I will get a box of Masters and a bunch of sleeves, make it into a cube. I'm considering getting into Modern itself though, since the Zendikar fetches are dropping in price, and those are the most prohibitive parts of the format, IMHO.
My dream for tomorrow night is Deadeye Navigator, then Dinrova Horror, then bounce things and force the opponent to discard a bunch every turn after that, while swinging in with a 5/5 and a 4/4 each turn.

I *love* EDH. It sort of reminds me of high(30+) level epic play in D&D/Pathfinder. You have 99 cards, and aside from basic lands, they all have to count and be useful.
I have a ton of commander decks, including all 5 of the new 4 color ones, as I was fortunate to get a good deal via Massdrop.
What's your EDH deck, and how do you like the format?

Oh! I missed that this was live! But it's not *quite* friday yet in my timezone, so...
Name: Atheos (worshipped by the Church of Atheism)
Domains (Subdomains): Knowledge (Thought), Sun (Revelation), Magic (Arcane), Law (Judgment)
Portfolio: Philosophy, Knowledge, Debate, Arcane Magic, Discovery
Inquisitions: Conversion, Illumination, Truth, Tactics
Alignment: LN, but flexible
Attack: 2d6
Defense: 4d6
HP: 30
Anecdote: The Island of Korsolis, birthplace of Atheos and the state he once led, was once considered a holy site of Atheism, and featured the first temple to Atheos ever built. Immediately after its completion, the temple was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. A second, larger temple was built; this too immediately burned to the ground. The third temple, built of fire-proof volcanic stone, was destroyed by an earthquake before it was finished, and lightning struck the construction scaffold, leaving scorch marks on the scattered stone. The High Priest of Atheos, at this point, declared that clearly his god was opposed to commemoration via a temple, and was also struck by lightning; the next High Priest said nothing on the subject whatsoever, and finally Atheos was pleased.

It's a Reyhan/Ravos counters deck. Super resilient. Kill a creature? Alright, I move all of its counters to something else and, if it was important, get it back next turn. I can also get up to some ridiculous sacrifice shenanigans with it. For example: I sac a 10/10 Vastwoods Hydra to Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter, with Reyhan and Corpsejack Menace out. That got pretty ridiculous.
Loving the format so far, although I've only won one game since one of the friends I play with always plays this stupid mono-blue Teferi (planeswalker version) control deck. Once, he managed to cast everybody's entire deck. It was a combo with Teferi, Tezzeret the Seeker, Architect Jace, and Chain Veil.
He has to have eight mana up, but that's pretty easy in Commander. I believe the way it works is plus Teferi, plus Tezz, plus Jace, activate Chain Veil, minus Teferi to untap, plus Tezz, plus Jace, activate Chain Veil again, plus Teferi, plus Tezz, plus Jace, activate Chain Veil, and so on. The point is that you get infinite Jace, Architect of Thought ults, which lets you cast all of your opponent's decks.

Really depends on what format you play. Extended and eternal formats, like Modern and Commander, have a steep entry price, but the value stays in the cards, so if times get tough you can sell your deck back for the price you got it for, sometimes a little more. Rotating formats, like Standard, generally cost a lot less, but when the cards go out of season there tends to be a huge price drop. And finally there's limited, which I recommend to new players, since because you're building your deck out of booster packs, everybody is on an even playing field. It's also really cheap and a good way to build your collection.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
As a current player, just a breakdown of what we currently have, in case it gives anyone ideas:
-2 lawful gods
-2 chaotic gods
-3 neutral (regarding law/chaos) gods
-4 good gods
-2 neutral (regarding good/evil) gods
-1 evil god
Gods of:
-Fate, music, stars
-Rulership, justice, war
-Nature, predators
-Creativity, invention
-Secrets
-Elves (sort of), magic
-Atheism
No gods of:
-Death, afterlife, reincarnation, etc
-Any of the major elements (yet)
-Regular old chaos
-Light or darkness
-Trickery
-One pantheon, the "Gods of the Vault" of 6 gods who have taken a pledge to not destroy too much stuff
-One moon, "Kirtavo," home to constant storms of glowing magic and a race of glowing magic people
-No sun
-Two continents
-Two intelligent races (for anyone who wishes to play a new mortal just ascended to godhood): the "Irtara" (glowy, chaotic inventors who live on the moon; Tissari can provide more info), and the "Cull," giant hive-mind insects; Zakaz can provide more info)
-One demigod who could probably be promoted to full-godhood by an interested player (the TN "First Librarian," an Irtaran given power by Atheos to record and enforce the history and laws of the material plane)
-No outsiders of any type (yet)
-One outer plane (the "Great Axis," a LN plane arranged in rings of increasing/decreasing lawfulness, currently only populated by giant ant-dogs)
I think that's everything I can think of right now.

We have a new recruitment up and running, as this one got up to 90+ posts.
If anybody is still interested in joining, that would be the place to post.
