Distracted by Yargo's offer to let the young man come back and discuss any number of subjects with him, Talon only notices the poor state of the board now that it's been pointed out, and starts considering how to improve the situation.
Disable Device Check - As there is nothing pressing going on you may take 10 or 20

Aarion hoofs it over the pit without bothering to use the plank that Ai so deftly crossed moments before.

Heryn too crosses the plank, albeit very slowly, while the others consider their options.

Aarion takes a deep breath and begins to calm down. “I apologize for my primitive judgment. Unfortunately, I spent quite a stretch of time in the Hells of Magnimar. I have become a little over accustomed to not trusting anyone.”

Aarion relaxes further and appear to become genuinely empathetic.

I thought disable device was only usable trained. Does anyone have the rank to be able to take 20, or some class feature or feat to get around this limitation?

I tried to say this in game a few different ways but I probably could have been clearer. If you just opt to go slowly and one at a time you can make it over unscathed. I don't think any of you are heavy enough to break the plank outright. Had I realized none of you had disable device I'd have just moved the party over but I wanted to give you all the opportunity to problem solve. I'll move us along shortly.

The last to cross, Tao went carefully, ready to spring if there were any alarming creaks from the board. "It is a short hop for most", she said, looking down into space the board spanned. The party passes the plank with trepidation, but makes it across, Aarion has some cross words for Ai, and darker thoughts, Heryn ushers them on toward the cellar where the wine is kept.

Talon finds the bottle easy enough, but when he reaches up to grab it, he finds it false. The bottle dips in his hands and the entire wine rack slides back into a short tunnel that reveals a hidden room.

A sturdy silver chain jutting from the ceiling ends in a glowing orb that radiates yellow light across the rectangular room. A simple desk of polished wood, stacked with documents and scattered notes, shelters a pair of wooden chests against the south wall. A series of cracks along the eastern and western walls forms makeshift entrances into exposed caverns.

Before the party can so much as inspect the room, they hear threatening noises from either side of the room, coming from the tunnels. Shortly after a couple half-starved troglodytes appear, weapons at the ready.

At the sight of them Heryn retreats into previous room.
"I'm not armed! Can you handle them?"
