After a few moments, there is still no sign of the nabasu.

Ronan suddenly speaks up, indicating that he thinks that spell was a very powerful teleport spell.

In front of the group there are double doors leading into the stables to the north, and double doors leading to the chapel to the south. A long passage leads between the buildings eastwards towards a courtyard.

Are the three circles in the middle of the passageway a gate? Or just decoration on the map?

Didn't the gargoyle fly that direction? I didn't see it come out...not that that means anything.

Typical map stuff would say that's a gate, but the book is vague. I'll say there's none.

The group make their way towards the courtyard to take a quick look at it. Stunted trees and tangled grass choke this open-air courtyard. A half-broken statue looks to the sky with what once would have been outstretched arms. From the courtyard two doors lead east, and one leads southwards. Nilus tries the doors, which swing open to reveal a ruined stable.

With no other means of exit from the stable, Nilus throws open the doors with the group gathered around him.

The sharp tang of musty, decaying straw fills the stable. Its easternmost wall has collapsed into a steep pile of broken beams and rocks that blocks the way to the other side.

A large mound of discarded weaponry lies amid the rubble in the stable.

Protection from evil is still active. You guys didn't dawdle much.

The group crowds outside of the doors, casts a few spells, and flings the door open!

The vaulted ceiling of this massive sanctuary reaches nearly thirty feet overhead. Smashed stained-glass windows stretch in narrow bands above the doors. Four angelic statues occupy each corner of the room, though their faces and wings are cracked and broken beyond recognition. The walls are covered with disturbing shapes and runes that have been recently scratched into the stone. An altar, befouled with grime and filth, sits against the southern wall.

Within the room are foul undead you immediately recognize, ghouls! Two of them stand near the altar, and appear to have been interrupted mid-sermon. Six other ghouls sit within the room, bearing witness to whatever foul sermon is being given.

Knowledge Religion DC 20:

The site of the sermon and the runes on the wall are evidence of Kabriri, the demon loud of ghouls and cannibalism.

Upon your intrusion, the ghouls all turn and shriek as they attack!

Moving fast, ever so fast, Ayesha leaped into the chapel and moved the opposite end of the bench from Nilus. As she did, she concentrated on her sword, and felt Darb N'ssiar respond, honing its edge to an even deadlier shape.

Sorry my bad, that's why I use shapes in this game to differentiate rather than colours. Although I didn't know about the recolour option. I'll spend some time and get some easy numbers to use at some point. Neat!

Ayesha feels a surge of excitement and energy from Darb N'ssar as she brutally strikes down a ghoul, ending its undeath instantly. Nilus charges up alongside her, but is unable to find his footing on the crumbling church floor and Radiance strikes wide.

Jinxx rushes in, biting out at one of the ghoul clerics who hisses in response, an enormous tongue lolling out.

Both of the ghoul clerics pull out scrolls, and begin reading from them rapidly!

The ghouls rush out at the group, moving in and attacking. Ayesha is nearly overwhelmed as ghouls move in, swiping and biting at her but she only manages to take one claw wound. Nilus easily fends off the crazed creature scrabbling at him. One leaps at Ronan, biting the mage nastily.

As everyone else moves in, Sarkast sees one ghoul move up directly in front of him. He grins and runs in, spear out.

Yeah, you can take the protection from evil. I'll count crossing directly over a pew as difficult terrain. Also, the two ghouls with the differnet pictures in the south are the clerics.

Nilus feels a claw rake into his side as he turns from the ghoul, but he manages to resist the paralysis!

He charges towards Ronan, who feels his limbs stiffen. The mage becomes totally still as the ghoul in front of him slavers, and gets ready to feed. The ghoul's celebration is cut short as Nilus rushes to Ronan's aid, brutally wounding the ghoul. Sarkast follows up, slamming his weapon home and slaying the thing. Jinxx then leaps upon a casting cleric, ripping and clawing at it viciously! The scroll fails and burns up in the ghoul's hands, which shrieks in rage.

Dejik then charges south, vaulting over a pew before she channels energy to damage all the gohuls around her. They are all minorly injured by the blast of holy energy.

Dejik manages to keep her footing near the sloped pit.

Spinning beautifully, Ayesha slashes out at the ghoul, he blade biting deeply.

One of the ghoul clerics shrieks in joy as its scroll completes, crumbling in its hands. A strange, burning symbol appears on the floor, and a babau materializes in it! It immediately slashes out at Jinxx, clawing and biting deeply into the strange eidolon.

The other ghoul cleric quickly chants a spell to heal itself.

Finally, three of the remaining ghouls leap upon Ayesha and Dejik! Ayesha manages to fend them off, but Dejik is clawed twice.

Jinxx takes 30 damage. Dejik takes 11 damage and must make two fort saves DC 13 or be paralyzed. Everyone is up!

Ronan is paralyzed.

Nilus rushes in, sweeping his glaive down. The babau shrieks in pain as black ichor sprays over the floor. The acid on its skin sizzles on Radiance to no effect. Enraged by the damage done to him, Jinxx leaps upon the ghoul cleric, ripping out its throat with a mighty bite!

In between the pews, Dejik raises her symbol, her hand looking somewhat shrunken by the power of the nabasu's magic. A blast of holy energy shoots over the ghouls. Three of them shriek as they are blasted with magic. The last vibrates violently and shrieks as it is turned to dust by Dejik's holy power.

Sarkast lunges out at the ghoul behind Dejik, but the creature is unusually fast for its kind, and turns aside at just the last moment. Joyfully slaying the evil before her, Ayesha sweeps out her sword repeatedly, blasting the ghoul in front of her to bits.

The cleric who summoned the babau snarls, moving in on Jinxx as the babau steps up to get another flank with the eidolon. They both leap upon Jinxx, clawing and tearing. The eidolon twists and rolls with the two creatures on him, and shockingly only takes a single hit.

Finally Dejik fends off the ghoul attacking her, but then a claw brutally slashes across her neck! She feels a horrid numbness creep through her body.

Sarkast plunges two spears into the ghoul and yanks them apart, tearing the horrid undead in two! Nilus, facing off with the babau, swipes his glaive down brutally, slicing off the babau's arm entirely. Black blood sprays over the pew, sizzling noisily on the wood before a second swipe from his glaive decapitates the creature. It vanishes in a black cloud, sent back to its home plane.

Jinxx leaps at the ghoul cleric, knocking it back and into the whirling dervish that is Ayesha. Narb D'ssar sweeps out repeately, slicing the creature to bits.

There is a moment of silence before a hungry moan comes from the pit poor ROnan is unable to get rid of. A single ghoul, hanging onto its unlife by a thread, remains. About at this time, Ronan's limbs begin to work again.

Ayesha knelt by the undead cleric and took a fragment of its shirt to clean her scimitar. When Darb N'ssiar was polished to a dark shine once more, she slid it back into the leather sheath. Then, since she was there anyways, she began looking through the cleric's belongings to see if there was anything useful.

The group explore the room top to bottom. Sarkast remembers a tip Sosiel gave about a potential cache of healing gear, and looking over the altar, he realizes that it moves. With a shove, he manages to rotate the altar and reveal a lead-lined hole, designed to prevent magic users from spotting the contents. Within are a series of identical cases, each one of them filled with clearly identified healing potions. There are dozens overall, enough to provision an army with them.

The ghoul clerics each wore suits of studded leather which radiate magic. 184 gold is also found on their bodies.
