Zoresk of Silverhall |
Zoresk, chiming in. Thanks much, GM SpiderBeard for the selection. I'm looking forward to playing whenever things end up going.
Quick question, have you already decided on a rough outline of what our crunch should look like? No pressure, I was just curious so I could make changes this evening. :)
GM SpiderBeard |
Welcome everyone! The game's title will be up soon as soon as I find the right verb. For those of you selected with a background for a different campaign, feel free to unhinge it as you need. For everybody, I'm looking for unresolved conflict in your past that I can revisit. You are free to tweak anything you want, even classes at this point, but please discuss with the group so that I don't wake up to find six monks.
Everyone can expect PMs from me at some point asking some questions about their background.
About This Game
I've run a game based on this same principle before in-person but switched to APs when I couldn't keep up with the pace of the game. So hopefully I can stretch this idea out a bit more. This is a campaign and will take you to late game levels if we stick through this. Mythic rules will (eventually) be employed.
About Me
I've been roleplaying for around 20 years with a variety of systems, but seem to have become entrenched in Pathfinder. I work in project management at a northern Canadian university in a remote rural area, huddled against the cold with my wife and dogs.
About how I run things
I try to avoid railroading games, and instead write island style where the PCs visit areas and encounter events/situations/etc. Things will follow a prestructured outline, but I expect you to surprise me in how it all plays out. I occasionally make mistakes and will readily admit to and fix them. I have also been known to bend or break rules where it suits the narrative, but never do so to create unfair situations. If something unfair happens to your characters, it's pre-written and will work out in the end.
Combat and Party Tracking
The group will be levelled up at appropriate areas in the game, and more or less according to a 'fast' experience track. Loot will be tracked in a spreadsheet, and I'd like to encourage the group to make a campaign log to tell their story (an idea I've happily stolen from Fingers). Maps will be hosted in google draw where players can move their own tokens.
Character Creation Guidelines:
This game will use mythic rules, so please familiarize yourself with the paths, and have one in mind.
- You've already been selected with races and classes in mind. Check with me if you want to change either of these core things. My preference is for a well played human fighter over a half-dragon starslayer or something like that.
- You're level one.
- Max hp at first level. Avg +1 hp afetr that.
- 2 traits.
- 150 gold
- 20 point buy. Your stats should figure in to how you play your character.
- The motivation of this game is to work with a group to solve a problem you all have in common.
- Official Paizo only.
- Please post a full stat block.
- Summary detail should be on the class/level section of your profile like so:
Class Level | AC XX T XX F XX | HP XX/XX | F +X R +X W +X | Init +X | Perc +X
Game Expectations
- Posting rate is 1/day, 1/weekend. I GMPC readily and without mercy or apology. If you do not post I will automate your character, particularly in combat.
- Players will be removed after three weeks of unexplained absence, receiving a warning on their second week.
- Please post in the discussion board if you will miss some time.
- Play your character with the fun of the entire party as your first goal. So inter-party drama, sexual themes, or anything like that must be handled with caution.
Narciso Valdlin |
Narciso is here, picking up items at the local market. It will be a pleasure seeing you all.
Narciso's eyes suddenly start fluttering... then pop open, glowing blue. His voice becomes more melodic, but about two octives lower... and with a sinister hint to it.
Yes, fools. It will be fun finding ways to get you to do my bidding... perhaps by finally getting this idiot to give in and...NO, I wasn't finished yet...
The light fades from his eyes and his voice returns to normal.
I hate it when that happens. My power has a mind of its own, I apologize for that.
Zoresk of Silverhall |
Adding these lists so I can run over them real quick as I redo my level 1 stats.
Group 1
"Fingers" Mitchell - Human Rogue (this guy looks awfully familiar...)
Zoresk - Lore Warden fighter
Nilan Mirlame - Cleric of Pharasma
Narciso Valdlin - Blue Dragon Sorcerer
Koriko Honokam - Kensai Magus
Irinia Kayzeld - Enchanter wizard
Group 2
Hector Quigley - Swashbuckler
Juid Ian Deguis - Human oracle
Ragner Djorinson - Witch
RAU-286 (pending some agreed-upon changes) - Alchemist
Crystal Delphi - Dhamphir Inquisitor
Czein - Half orc Ranger
Irina Kayzeld |
As an FYI after some correspondence with SpiderBeard, Irina will become a brawler instead of a wizard.
Koriko Honokami |
Can I keep my traits as they are? I know one is a campaign trait but its effect is an essential part of my character, otherwise could replace it with Style Sage or Scholar of the Great beyond, those will also make Knowledge (history) a class skill for me.
And i don't know if you read it in the recruitment thread, I didn't see a response to it at any rate, the "Dojo's Equipment" trait is just a Rich Parents reskin, so I hope that's fine.
So I still need to erase the RotRL hook from my backstory and add a source of conflict.
Also i revised my ability scores as they were based on 17 point buy originally.
Narciso Valdlin |
@ Irina: Aw.... was looking forward to having three spellcasters causing whatever our GM throws our way to melt down to basic atoms. Still, I guess having someone a little less squishy is probably a good idea, ;)
@ GM: Looking at the two spells I have that require materials, I think they are both in the "cheaper than a GP" category covered by the Eschew Materials Feat (brass key for Open/Close and cloth bag of sulfur to Snapdragon Fireworks) but if not will need to spend money on them. Mind letting me know how you view those?
Looking forward to seeing how this starts and meeting y'all in game!
GM SpiderBeard |
I have a very liberal view of spell components. If there isn't a specific cost value attached to the component, consider it something you have.
Irina Kayzeld |
@Narciso - That might have been what he was worried about :p Nah it was simply a question of if I really wanted to be that as my background/character personality was more what got me in the game (SB was fine to let me stay wizard) and I said "well to be honest she was originally a ranger but if I could be *anything* in the world I would be a pony!" and SpiderBeard graciously sidestepped that and then I offered brawler and he said that might be fun. ;)
GM SpiderBeard |
> "well to be honest she was originally a ranger but if I could be *anything* in the world I would be a pony!"
Pony druid is an available role. I'll whip up a custom archetype and everything.
Irina Kayzeld |
I've never played a druid that could be interesting but I think I will embrace my inner martial and go with the brawler...unless the peanut gallery thinks a slayer would be better?
Irina Kayzeld |
So I guess I will put together my stats based on the revised playtest and then fiddle when the book releases officially? Depending on our "go live" we won't even start until its out. ACG drops pretty soon right? like a month?
Oh and that would have been Queen Butterclop, btw. Ponies are noble and s$%% ;p
GM SpiderBeard |
Sorry, missed that part. Work with the playtest, and then we will update upon release. The PDF releases on Aug 14 so I'm working from that date. All the SRD information should update shortly thereafter for ease of reference. I'll also reserve the right to buff/nerf as appropriate, but I'm pretty shy about doing that.
Irina Kayzeld |
No nerfing martials :(
We are so lonely and abused...heh.
I was running/playing a short lived game with a brawler and on its face it was sweet but not overwhelmingly awesome. It rewarded me as a player in that I could tap into the feat trees and solve interesting problems in combat and I liked that because as a fighter I have not always felt that was something I could do the way casters could. Regardless I will get to work this weekend and we will see what the wind blows our way.
Irina Kayzeld |
Got my crunch hammered out on the weekend save for traits, just need to update my profile with it all as I worked it all out on paper.
GM SpiderBeard |
Badass. Provided my maps come together (I'm teaching myself to use image editing to make fancy maps because I'm a masochist) I may be able to start at the beginning of August.
GM SpiderBeard |
So I've successfully honed my Gimp-fu to the point where I can build a basic map. Now I have to build one more fancy one and start writing my detail and fleshing out encounters. As I have a week off of work and vacation plans fell through, we can expect to start by August. Maybe a week in.
GM SpiderBeard |
As evidenced I've finally given a name to my madness. Expect a few questions about backstories in your messages in the coming days.
Irina Kayzeld |
Now to wring my hands worriedly...is it the divine that are deluded, the deluded that are divine or will I, in fact, be someone deluded that I am divine? Other combinations do exist surely...
Oh my I just realized I am gearless. Will fix that in the AM
Koriko Honokami |
I haven't posted here in a while. Been mostly discussing my character with Spiderbeard via PM, so i thought i'd just leave some evidence to the other players that I exist, just so that people won't wonder where the pale half-elf girl suddenly came from when the game starts.
Irina Kayzeld |
Ya know I never noticed that as a Brawler I can't use a shield to protect myself but I can use one to smash someone in the face. I wonder if they modified that. LOL
Equip and combat states should be finished now. Somehow my stats went missing I added those too!
The Emerald Duke |
... your saying that reminds me of a skit I heard about a mythical (read: nonexistant) marial art called Tai Quan Leap. The wise master says to the redneck sounding student "Tai Quan Leap is only to be used for knowledge and defense. Do you know who said that. Ne Ho Lee, the great teacher." To which, said student says, "Well the best defense is a good offense, you know who said that? Mel, the cook on Alice!"
... I don't know where I was going with that other than it caused me to seriously laugh when I read it... chalk it up to insomnia?
Irina Kayzeld |
All too true. If they are lying on the ground unconscious because I bashed them with a giant steel plate I won't get hurt! Heh.
Zoresk of Silverhall |
FYI I'll be travelling internationally starting Sunday for two weeks. I'll have internet access and should be able to continue posting, but feel free to bot me if I'm holding things up.
As far as my build goes, I have the scaling back done for Zoresk, I just need to update my character sheet and figure out equipment. I'll try and get that done tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenient timing but I've had this vacation planned a while. :)
GM SpiderBeard |
Hey folks, I beg further patience as this last week hasn't given me much opportunity to continue setup. I will start as soon as I can, but I'm not quite ready yet.
