GM, what do you use to make your maps?

Gimp, basically an open source photoshop. Learning curve isn't great but once you settle in it's not too bad. Set up a grid, draw an outline, pile up a few basic colours and effects, blammo. The more I do the faster I get.

It looks like we have our first dropout as I've received no response from Narciso. I'll begin looking for a replacement. If anyone has a friend or a player in one of their games who would be interested, let me know!


I know a few very good players who post consistently. I'll ask them to check out the game.

Got some interest from one of my acquaintances. Dreaming Warforged has expressed interest if you want to get in contact with him. He's a strong RPer and consistent poster who I'd strongly recommend.

He asked about the story and what kind of time frame you're looking for in terms of submission. Will you proceed with PMs from here, GM Spiderbeard? I plan to PM him and let him know about the story so far (from Zoresk's perspective) and that you'll contact him. I can send another PM if you'd prefer for me to act as intermediary.

GM, I found some pretty cool news while surfing the forums

The below is a quote from Errata of the ACG

This makes Nilan better:

Page 91—In the Ecclesitheurge archetype’s Ecclesitheurge’s Vow ability, in the second sentence, remove both instances of the word “prohibited”. Add the following ability after the Ecclesitheurge’s Vow ability:
Blessing of the Faithful (Su): As a standard action, the ecclesitheurge can bless one ally within close range (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels). A blessed ally gains a +2 sacred or profane bonus (depending on whether the ecclesitheurge channels positive or negative energy) on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, or saving throws or to AC until the ecclesitheurge’s next turn. The ecclesitheurge can expend 1 use of channel energy when activating this ability to increase the duration to a number of rounds equal to the number of dice of his channel energy.
• Page 91—Change Bonded Holy Symbol to the following:
Bonded Holy Symbol (Su): At 3rd level, an ecclesitheurge forms a powerful bond with a holy symbol of his deity, which functions identically to a wizard’s bonded object except it can be used to cast cleric and domain spells (instead of wizard spells) and the ecclesitheurge can grant his bonded holy symbol only magic abilities appropriate for a holy symbol or a neck slot item.
As with a wizard’s bonded item, an ecclesitheurge can add additional magic abilities to his bonded holy symbol as if he had the required item creation feat (typically Craft Wondrous Item), provided he meets the feat’s level prerequisites. For example, an ecclesitheurge with a bonded holy symbol who wants to add a wondrous amulet ability, like amulet of natural armor, to his bonded holy symbol must be at least 3rd level to do so. The magic properties of a bonded holy symbol, including any magic abilities the ecclesitheurge added to the object, function for only the ecclesitheurge. This ability replaces the increase to channel energy gained at 3rd level.

Basically it means that I'm not completely useless when not spellcasting.

I'm confused about your comment Spiderbeard about moving myself in that I thought I was still engaged with the token on my northwest axis, which the last time I looked at the map yesterday before I posted was still a single square away. Had you already moved me or am I just looking at something in a weird way?

Edit: No I see what happened. I mistook a townsfolk for a hobgoblin. You mean I shouldn't attack my friends?!?

BTW, I am enjoying this game immensely. The challenge is good, and the problem of freeing the town is quite difficult to parse out. The players roles all seem to work. I never expected Fingers to be a leader, but it seems like he's doing a decent job of it so far.

I agree the town issue is not cut and dry and I enjoy that. I also enjoy the character interplay...Nilan is becoming scary though with all his curse threats, watch out for that one ;p

So I've learned that magi can use spellstrike in combination with spell combat, to essentially make two one-handed attacks with their main weapon. Had I known this I would have gotten combat casting at level 1. Expect me to use a lot more cantrips in the future.

Do I wake up from the level-up HP gain?

Bonded Holy Symbol (Su)::
At 3rd level, an ecclesitheurge forms a powerful bond with a holy symbol of his deity, akin to a wizard's bonded object. Once per day, a bonded holy symbol can be used to cast any one spell that the ecclesitheurge has on his cleric or domain spell list that day. This spell is treated like any other spell cast by the ecclesitheurge, including with respect to casting time, duration, and other effects dependent on the ecclesitheurge's level. This spell cannot be modified by metamagic feats or other abilities.

An ecclesitheurge can add additional magic abilities to his bonded holy symbol as if he had the required item creation feat (typically Craft Wondrous Item), provided he meets the feat's level prerequisites. For example, an ecclesitheurge with a bonded holy symbol necklace must be at least 3rd level to add magic abilities to the item. The magic properties of a bonded holy symbol, including any magic abilities added to the object, function for only the ecclesitheurge. If a bonded holy symbol's owner dies or the item is replaced, the object reverts to being an ordinary holy symbol.

If a bonded holy symbol is damaged, it is restored to full hit points the next time the ecclesitheurge gains his spells for the day. If the holy symbol is lost or destroyed, it can be replaced after 1 week in a special ritual that costs 200 gp per cleric level plus the cost of the holy symbol itself. This ritual takes 8 hours to complete. Items replaced in this way do not possess any of the additional enchantments of the previous bonded holy symbol. An ecclesitheurge can instead designate an existing holy symbol as his bonded holy symbol. This functions in the same way as replacing a lost or destroyed item, except that the new holy symbol retains its abilities while gaining the benefits and drawbacks of becoming a bonded holy symbol.

This ability replaces the increase to channel energy gained at 3rd level.

For feats...I'm leaning towards Scribe Scroll....anyone have any other ideas?

Since Nilan is a caster-focused cleric your bread and butter feats would be stuff like combat casting, improved initiative, spell perfection, spell focus, and of course the exciting world of metamagic.

@Spiderbeard Do you allow retraining of feats? If so I'd like to retrain Selective Channeling at some point. Nilan is going to be 2 levels behind in channel dice so doing that in combat seems...less than effective. Instead I think perhaps Combat Casting would be more useful instead of Selective Channel.

As to the 3rd level feat...I'm thinking Scribe Scroll mainly because it allows for a longer adventuring day. I dislike short adventuring days, and running out of spells means I'm less useful. More scrolls=more spells=more useful.

Feat retraining is fine on level-up. I'll let you just swap it out without spending time and money, I'd only require that if you're switching something major like an archetype.
