They have good bonuses too.

I was also considering Raven or Thrush because then it could already talk. The bonus to appraise or diplomacy isn't great for me, but I'm considering it just for the ability to speak.

Having it "grow up" when I get improved familiar makes sense to me, but spontaneously generating language skills seems a bit more of a stretch.

Aerin Aurora wrote:

Ok, I have my character nearly complete. I decided to go with the Shaman after all. Half elf instead of elf.

I have a couple of mechanical questions before I finish the character up though

1) I'm planning on taking improved familiar at 7th level and acquiring a Fairy Dragon. In the mean time I have to pick a familiar. My thought was to have my familiar be a very young or developmentally stunted fairy dragon and use some kind of lizard or bird for the mechanics. This is essentially just a cosmetic/thematic change. I just wanted to make sure it was alright before I did it.

2) The Campaign Traits pretty much all deal with characters starting in a city that we are no longer in. Should I still pick one of those, or should I choose a different trait instead?

I haven't reviewed the rest of the build yet, but I would say that you should just choose two other traits and leave a campaign trait out of it.

As for the familiar, they won't have much of a game role. I'd prefer it not to be a fantastic creature until you take the Feat for it.

HP 19/32, Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5 Shift 3/4, Spells- 1st: 5/7, 2nd: 5/5 Active effects: Lowlight vision, See In Darkness, Life Link (Meridian, Zabeth, Frank, Kana)

Would you be alright with my familiar metamorphing into a new form when I take the feat, or something like that?

Another option would be to take the feat now even thought I'm not eligible to have that particular creature until 7th level. I'm the mean time I could just have a tiny dragon's egg with telepathy or something.

Thoughts?

We will figure out a way for the new familiar to appear in the game once you reach the right level. May not be a metamorphosis per se, but I am leaning that way. I imagine the right moment will present itself.

Are you ready for my review in your profile now?

Pretty much. Go ahead and take a look. I'll figure out a trait and a familiar sometime tomorrow.

I'm checking back in to find out when I should expect to join the game.

I Hope the party is ok with my negotiations. Got us some case and a customer for some of the local fauna and minerals. Plus got us a somewhat secure place to camp while we explore. Not sure we can trust our host though and recommend we post a watch.

Lets get some focus back into this game. I know things slow down around this time of year, but lets not stop all together.

Reva hates to work for Zincher, but is a little more morally flexible than one of her religion normally would be. So if she has to sign up and betray him when it comes to gathering the starmetal, that's cool. Also, safe haven on the island is a very, very good idea.

Just a reminder that we have a massive bargaining chip in the way of (hopefully) still having Saul in our clutches.

After that bit of work he will go and secure the trap door down into the water tunnels as best he can, locking it with Saul's key, covering it with sand and wishing he could place a large block of stone on it.

Upon returning to the first floor of the Goblin Saphren explains Saul continued to threaten us, so I thought it best to remove him as a threat. I did it quick. He did not suffer. He states this with no remorse, almost like stating he made himself a sandwich. Oh, and a locked up down stairs as well. No sense inviting things up from those caverns.

After the quake he is busy moving things to higher ground and will take special interest in their current prisoner.

1) Saul is killed. He Saphren will dump the body into the flood waters at some point. 2) The drow is Kwava's prisoner as far as I am concerned. Someone should be able to get a Comprehend Language spell at some point for the journal. 3) I'll look over the gear. 4) Its our home for now. We could hire a manager to run it if we leave. Or maybe we can sell it?

Of course not. That's embarrassing. A trudge through the thread is probably long overdue. I'm beginning to lose the thread of things with so much time having passed.

I am traveling starting tomorrow morning for the next 8 days - Ski Trip. Please bot me if you need to to keep things running. I will check in as time and internet are available.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

I apologise for the delay, I've just gone from a 4 day workweek to a 38 hour one. I work casually as an aide, and with two days notice before the school term started offered me the position full time. I also work Saturdays, so basically I've been grossly overcommited on the PbP front. I've dropped out of a few games and am trying to play my PFS games to their conclusion but it might be a week or two before I really settle back into daily posting. Feel free to bot me, but I'm going to do my best to stay on top of things.

Folks

After a change in circumstance, I find myself without the requisite time to dedicate to GMing on the boards. I therefore must respectfully withdraw myself from the game, which will most likely fold the thread. I apologize for starting something I can't finish, but I didn't expect this situation to change as it has. The change is good thing for my family and career, but unfortunately it means I have to end doing something I love.

I enjoyed our time together. Thanks for your work to make it more fun, and I wish you all the best in your gaming lives.

Makes me sad, but I understand being busy. Come back to the boards when your life allows. You have friends here.

I'll miss the big green skinned Saphren. He tried to do the right thing most of the time. I was proud of how melee effective he was as a rogue.

This was a good group and I felt like we were just hitting our power curve. I hope we get to game together again.

It's totally fine, our lives change and this hobby requires pretty specific circumstances to make work. S~*# changes and it's unfortunate but it happens. Thank you so much for letting us know that you're shutting it down - a lot of GMs don't give people that opportunity.

Thanks so much for the great group and game. I really dug the dynamic we had and this game has been a ton of fun.

Take care!

So, I just saw a Second darkness game recruiting for one player. And they are only slightly behind where we were. Here is the link. I have applied.

Recruitment

I fear they are only looking for one player. DM seems quite competent and knows what he wants. I will also say that if a DM is found for this game I would continue here but I know that is hard to pull off.

F Half-Elf NG Inquisitor 5 | HP 23/27 | AC 20 T 12 FF 18 | CMB +5 CMD 17 | F +3 R +4 W +6 | Init +7 | Perc +12 | Judge 2/2 | Bane 5/5 | Spells: 5/5, 3/3 | Relentless (6/day) | 29 CLW Charges

... damnit, I'm going to over-stretch myself, but how about this.

Saphren - I'm the GM posting for the other game. The fact we were looking for a player sort of lined up with this game falling apart, and I've been mulling over what to do. I'm willing to pick up this game to keep it going.

I don't like GMPC, so I'd have to retire Reva, and thus we'd have to recruit up, but I'm willing to pick up this game. There's been too much invested to drop this far in.

F Gnome Sorceror (Bedrock) 6 | HP 35/35 | AC 19 T 13 FF 17 (+2 dodge bonus vs. aberrations, oozes and vermin) | Ft +6 Rf +6 Wi +7 (+2 vs illusions) | Perc +10 (+2 for stonework) | Init +6 | Spells 8/8 6/6 3/4 | Tremor 8/8

Maybe we can try to get Aerin back?

.

I'll do just that. I'm also going to mail the webmaster for control of the campaign. If Aerin is not interested I will recruit two.

.

Aerin has agreed to join us, although with a different character. I've spoken with Doc Evil and have sent the message to the boards to take over the game.

All that's left is replacing Reva. Normally I'd just tap someone in another game I'm in, but I Have a recruitment thread going for my OTHER second darkness game, so I'll just grab an extra person from that.

And I need some signs of life from Magnus. *pokepoke* I've sent a PM.

We'll get going in a week or so!

F Gnome Sorceror (Bedrock) 6 | HP 35/35 | AC 19 T 13 FF 17 (+2 dodge bonus vs. aberrations, oozes and vermin) | Ft +6 Rf +6 Wi +7 (+2 vs illusions) | Perc +10 (+2 for stonework) | Init +6 | Spells 8/8 6/6 3/4 | Tremor 8/8

How are we going to handle the transition? Retcon that Reva was never there and the new people were always there?

.

Nah, I'll find a clever way to write new people in and write Reva out.

That said I'm considering giving the existing group an equipment boost. If I bring someone in at WBL they'll have more than the combined value of all gear in the group.

I'm still about! Don't worry. I've been waiting for the time to pop in with a proper thank you post. We've had a hell of a run, Doc. I hope things turn out for the best, and that you can still have a presence here on the boards. :)

I'm interested in continuing. If there are any issue with my pace (the massive slowdown has been a great help while I transition to my new job) and I'm not keeping up, feel free to find a replacement down the line.

I wouldn't say I achieved everything I wanted to do with Magnus from a roleplay perspective. If it wasn't for the fantastic interparty dynamic we've built up I'd ask if I could shoehorn another PC in, but I'd be sad to see that fall apart. So consider this curmudgeonly trudgeoner down for more!

.

Awesome! And I adore Magnus, he stays. If you're a little sluggish in posting that's not a big deal, I can GMPC.

Okay, so for gear. This AP is REALLY cheap on the loot. Like, appallingly cheap even by 3.5 standards, let alone Pathfinder. I think your net worth is 5,000 gold, and according to WBL it should be closer to 30,000.

So - Magnus, Trig, and Saphren, please retrofit your characters with 7,000 gold each in new equipment. No single purchase worth more than 3,000. I'm not going to retcon in new players, but I will retcon in new gear.

Since this is a conversion with 5 people playing a game meant for 4, there'll be some adjustment as I tweak difficulties to find the right level of challenge. Please bear with!

I love Magnus too. I feel like he and Saphren are only now beginning to trust each other and maybe even like each other. Though I am not sure the relationship can survive another time of Saphren saving the dwarf's life. He seems to hate it when Saphren does that. :)

I'll miss Reva a lot too. She was becoming a trusted friend to the rogue. It would not have been long before Saphren likely messed all that up by trying to expand the relationship to friends with benefits. lol. So you taking the reigns spared us all that. :P

7K. Hmm. And with the purchase limit that means no stat bump items. My character will be better off/more well rounded distributing that money across a number of assets but without the restriction I am not sure I could have resisted the call of the belt of Dex.

F Gnome Sorceror (Bedrock) 6 | HP 35/35 | AC 19 T 13 FF 17 (+2 dodge bonus vs. aberrations, oozes and vermin) | Ft +6 Rf +6 Wi +7 (+2 vs illusions) | Perc +10 (+2 for stonework) | Init +6 | Spells 8/8 6/6 3/4 | Tremor 8/8

Feels weird to do that, but I guess it makes sense. I was under the impression that this AP was low loot and balanced around that assumption. Isn't the normal WBL table based around medium advancement?

.

Saphren - yeah that's intentional. The idea is to (crudely) replicate the kind of introductory magic items you would have picked up along the way.

Trig wrote:

It is, but again - we're going through a conversion and then gaining an additional player. So the balance is changed regardless. I'm going to have to play with number of baddies, advanced templates, and other buffs to get it right. The reasons for the wealth bump are threefold:

- Pathfinder is built with the magical economy in mind. It's not an aspect of the game I actually like, but class balance assumes magical goodies, particularly as you hit higher levels.

- It frankly feels weird bringing in two level 5 characters with WBL at level 2 (or level 1 for Saphren).

- Morale boost. Being level 5 without any magical gear in this game is kinda crappy, in addition to such a vital, amazing GM retiring from the boards.

Stop trying to unsigned my gold Trig. :P

.

Gah, I thought I posted. Two things:

1. Anyone who wants to join in on the in-game section of the recruitment thread is free to. It's here.

2. With ABP the game still drops loot and I haven't read far enough and in enough detail to know if there's magic items of import to the plot I'd have to work around. It means going ahead and changing/removing things. Bumping the party up to average WBL makes the most sense for me, even if it's artificial. Trig, if you're not entirely comfortable with it you can skip out and we'll sort something out in-game as we progress.

That should have read "Stop trying to unspend my gold Trig. :P" I just should not post from my phone.

Magnus - First you have to update your sheet. At 5th level your BAB is +5. And a 16 strength gives you a +3 to hit. So your to hit with any melee weapon you are proficient with is +8. yet your sheet shows +7. N

ext point is when upgrading your gear note that a magic weapon does not increase your to hit over a masterwork version. I am not saying not to get a magic weapon but will note that its not as big a priority as one might think. You can get a masterwork weapon with oils and scrolls of spells that enchant it for when you need it magic for a quarter of the cost of an actual magic weapon.

Your feats seem like you are going somewhere so you do not likely have a free feat available but Weapon Focus is a decent feat and is a prereq for a lot of other things. And Furious focus does away with the to hit penalty when power attacking for your first attack when two handing a weapon. Saphren has both of these feats. Those are my thoughts.
