Recruiting two players for two Second Darkness games now!

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 137 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Note - this is a re-post, changing the title as I've changed my criteria.

A foul omen looms over the Varisian city of Riddleport. What could the dark blot over the city of swindlers and thieves mean? Apocalyptic whispers fill the street, priests search for signs from their gods, and rumors of strange happenings shake the city. Could this ominous portent be the work of a scheming crime boss, mysterious Cyphermages, or a petty pirate lord? Or does it prophesize some new menace come to Golarion? A step into Riddleport's high-stakes underworld of sin and debauchery reveals that not all in the pirate's paradise is as it seems. Only you can foil a terrible new plot that reaches from below to take hold of Varisia's city of sin.

This is a new thread for an open recruitment.

I am now recruiting TWO players for TWO Second Darkness Games!

Game A is about to start Chapter 2
Link to gameplay thread.
Game B (I just inherited) is midway through Chapter 2 Link to gameplay thread.

I'm interested in a NEW player for Game A. The Game B spot is open for anyone.

=======
ABOUT ME
=======

My name is Dave Powell. I've been in PbP for somewhere over two years, and have been doing tabletop rp for almost 25 years. I run three PbP games (Carrion Crown and Wrath of the Righteous) and play in a few more. I'm in Mountain Time or GMT -7 and keep up a very good posting rate, usually in the first half of the day (for me) although occasional evenings. I work in rural northern Canada as an IT bureaucrat.

My goal as a GM is to keep the game fun, keep players engaged, and keep things moving.

=========
WHERE IS THIS TAKING PLACE?
=========

I am running the Adventure Path Second Darkness, which takes place on Golarion and was written before the Pathfinder RPG was out, so I'm using conversion. We are about finished Chapter 1, and so this character will begin with Chapter 2.

The game takes place in Riddleport, a nasty pirate city in the huge, wild country of Varisia. Riddleport has had a strange cloud called the Blot hovering overhead that should interest your character in some way - strange magical effects have been occurring since it showed up.

The details of how your character gets involved will be sorted out after I choose someone.

========
QUALITIES I WANT
========

- You need to post once per weekday, once per weekend and do so for a long time, I intend to finish this AP which will take a couple of years
- This is a game, don't take in-game insults or troubles for your character personally
- Make the game fun for me and others
- Communicate! Good and bad, and particularly about absences
- Roleplay! A good character should 'pop' and be obvious in the first post

========
HOW TO APPLY
========

First off, I'd read this and this which are guides to Play by Post. These were immensely helpful to me when I started.

Once done, you need to reply to this thread with the following:

- a concept (you describing the character)
- a personality
- a backstory (simple is fine)
- a character stat block (this should be complete or close to it)

It is totally fine to repurpose a character you applied with to another game. And you can of course reply to express interest and 'dot' the thread to follow it while you write your character. I will respond to applications with questions where appropriate.

========
CHARACTER CREATION
========

Group A: Witch, Bloodrager, Skald, and Inquisitor

Group B: Fighter, Sorcerer, Rogue, TBD

NO DROW

- 20 point buy
- 2 traits (you'll get a third but we'll work that out if you're chosen)
- Starting level FOUR with 6k gold, again - a level 1 PC is good enough to apply
- Heroes required - you may not be personally heroic, but need to act in such a way
- Max hp at level 1, half+1 hp every subsequent level
- All Paizo classes are fine, and unchained is fine too - eastern classes are less likely to get picked
- Unusual races are less likely to get picked
- No third party material

=======
ROLEPLAY
=======

After a few characters are in, I start a roleplay prompt in this thread so that people can begin interacting with each other and the world. Your character will be in a tavern in Riddleport. Participation is not mandatory, but will certainly help - this is where you can not only show your RP chops, but show that you can post once a day.

=======
DEADLINE
=======

Tentatively March 13th.

Sovereign Court

Hello again! I'm potentially interested in joining one of your groups. My initial submission is Cherry Razarin, tiefling rogue; she is a bartender by trade, who likely would be looking for gainful employment in the city of Riddleport.

I am a regular poster on these boards and also run two games (soon to be three), and one of those games is about to hit its one-year anniversary, so I'm pretty reliable!

I am also quite flexible in making a character that fits the group dynamic and fills a needed role, and I'm more than happy to come up with a half-dozen alternative characters depending on what the group feels would be a good fit.

Cheers, everyone!

Hey back again. Still interested. By a new player do you mean a new to pbp player or something else? Any way Nel is up for action.

Greetings! Looks like a fun AP, I'll post with a character this weekend.

Quote:

Group A: Witch, Bloodrager, Skald, and Inquisitor

Group B: Fighter, Sorcerer, Rogue, TBD

Are these what you're looking to add to each game or the existing group builds?

A quick glance at the characters pane of the campaign in question says that's what they currently have. :)

I'm certainly interested

Having never played in Second Darkness before, and with the chance to start at a higher level than 1, I'm going to bite and conjure up something.

Lemme see what I can think up...

Dark Archive

I would be keen on actually playing Zelda here. She's a witchwolf black-blooded oracle/spellslinger wizard (plan to multiclass it out 10/10, starting with the oracle, can explain her background and why those two classes later.)

dotting.

Submitted for your approval:

Tesla Gossamar

Female Android
Slayer 4 (focus on archery)

background:
. Tesla is the creation of a gnome tinker. The gnome was contracted by the owner of a shipping company (pirate), to create a loyal bodyguard and translator (uses 1 skill point for linguistics each level). The bodyguard would accompany the owner in his travels and serve as "muscle" for him when needed and bridge the gap of language barriers for would be "clients".

. Since combat functions were one of the requirements, the gnome developed an algorithm that featured a targeting system (Studied target class feature). Since the programming was math based the android had a distinct advantage in trajectory based weapons (Archery forcus).

. After a particularly poor run of luck at gambling one night in Riddleport, the owner resorted to offering Tesla as part of the winnings to cover his bet, believing there was no way he could lose. Unfortunately, he had underestimated his opponent. When he refused to honor his bet, the owner was killed. With the protocols lifted on her servitude to the owner. She is now trying to understand what "freedom" is. Will she seek revenge, investigate the curious supernatural events occurring locally, take on the duties the owner left behind, only time will tell.

Updated Current Group Builds
===========

Group A (level four): Witch, Bloodrager, Skald, and Inquisitor

Group B (level five): Fighter, Sorcerer, Rogue, Cleric

So we are looking for a fifth player in each who would work with the above builds. Group B is also level five, not four, but again, I'm not picky about what level you apply at. We can sort out the rest if you're selected.

Ack! Cherry Razarin, tiefling rogue was acknowledged in both threads, yet somehow didn't make it onto the list of applicants!

As noted previously, I'm amenable to updating the character (probably in a multiclass fashion) to be a stronger contributor based on the composition of the group.

GM Spiderbeard wrote:
@Tesla - Tell me a little bit about the character concept and why you're interested in Tesla and playing an android.

DM Spiderbeard:
Movies about robots coming "alive". These characters always start simple. A device/person created for 1 thing, but evolving to something much more complex.

With Tesla, we have a mechanical being created for combat. I've never played a character who uses a composite longbow, so that's where the core of the character comes from. Originally I thought fighter. From an optimization standpoint, the extra feats would certainly push the role of dps much further. I've never been much for min/maxing though. For a rpg, there is much more going on most of the time, other than combat; and I wanted an options to do things other than: shoot an arrow, shoot an arrow, wait till next combat and repeat. The background for Tesla outlines her not being "free" to develop as a person outside of her intended purpose initially.

In order to "round out" the character I noticed that the slayer class offers a lot more skill points. This opened up the "translator" idea. I really like using various languages in my pbp. I use google translate to convert a quote into a language that I think reflects the languages in Pathfinder. (i.e I use latin for Draconic/magic based, Icelandic for Gnome, Greek for Elven). I follow them with spoilers to translate for the other players. It's easy to account for a machine learning a new language at each level. The extra skill points let me also play the "bard" role of knowing a little about lots of different subjects/skills. I spread out skill points to cover almost all of my character class skills.

I plan to preface Teslas actions and conversations with thoughts in italics simulating a computer processing to explain the followed actions. Sort of like a HUD, kind of terminator-eske:

"Targeting systems online... threat detected... analizing."

Tesla uses her move action to designate enemy A as her studied target = +1 attack and damage.

or

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

"Heartrate elevation, dialated pupils. diagnosis: subject is lying."

"I'm not sure we can trust what they are saying. It might be wise to seek a 2nd opinion on the matter."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

These are examples. I feel like it will give a real sense of translating game mechanics for RP use.

Likewise: Data from Star Trek, No 5 from Short Circuit, ect... they all have moments of that provide for occasional comic relief.

I apologize for the wall of text, but the question was more complex than a short answer would provide, so I put it in a spoiler to not clutter the post.

Nope! I just poked my head in to be helpful! (ish)

Hello! I'm new to both the forums and to PbP gaming (though I have recently been accepted into a PFS module here on the boards; should be getting started this weekend); I have ample experience with Pathfinder, but I had just never thought about playing a game on a forum until recently.

I'd like to present Grunyn the Mossless for your consideration. He's a dwarven Warpriest of Irori (who'll likely snag one level of Standard Bearer Cavalier sometime in the near future, especially if he's chosen for the first group), specializing in grappling and bull rushing. Clad in Full Plate, with an enormous helmet, long hammer, and strapped with traditional dwarven weaponry, opponents are quickly surprised as he charges into them, sending them flying! Though his primary attack is at reach, woe to those who step up to him; he packs a powerful kick, too!

Less flavorfully, he'll open his combat with a bull rush, either to knock an opponent away or to position them better for his comrades, then threaten at reach for awesome flanking bonuses. Closing to melee causes him to switch to unarmed strikes/grapples.

I'm fairly certain I started with 5k gold rather than 6k, but I don't remember; I'm going to have to go over my equipment, but it's likely I should have a bit more (consumables!) than I do now.

His backstory, in brief, shows him as a traditionalist dwarf, deeply knowledgeable of history and proud of his heritage. I need to verify where/when dwarves started to worship Irori, but he'll be from that part of the world, having trained in martial arts as well as the traditional dwarven weaponry. He left the temple to continue the path to perfection, and to aid others in theirs. Rigid, stoic, and honor-obsessed, like a good Klingon dwarf. More on this coming under the alias as I read tonight.

Thanks for checking him out!

RP

This thread will go pseudo 'in-game' tomorrow once I have a bit. Anyone who wants to RP with each other is free to. Consider it dice-light but you're free to roll on stuff if you so wish.

Sovereign Court

I'll be submitting Zoso, an elven bard and archer. Fluff will be added soon, excited to start the RP!

Recruitment activities will now be contained in spoilers. The rest will be in-game from this point on.

Applications:

Nel Shadow Touched, halfling sorcerer
Zelda Marie Lupescu, witchwolf oracle/spellslinger (awaiting fluff)

Cherry Razarin, tiefling rogue

In the beginning...

It is the 10th of Desnus in the year 4709 in Absalom Reckoning, and our story begins in Riddleport. The third-largest city in Varisia, this bustling port is a notorious den of lawlessness, corruption, and violence. Ruled by the former pirate captain Overlord Cromarcky, it is on the frontier of the frontier, far north on the Lost Coast of the untamed land Varisia. Crime bosses engage in vicious, bloody politics with names such as Clegg Zincher, Boss Croat, and Saul Vancaskerkin on everyone's lips.

Here, a strange thing has happened. A few months ago, a shadow appeared in the sky. This ill omen has hung over Riddleport since then, appearing like a strange dark cloud, never moving, and apparently never affecting anything. It has drawn interest from around Avistan, and been a subject of great interest by the Order of Cyphers, a society of wizards dedicated to studying the Cyphergate, a monumental arch in the centre of the city that predates modern civilization.

Strange magical occurrences have struck Riddleport since the arrival of the Blot. A change in the smell of the air, tidal surges, suicidal seagulls, and a bizarre purple mist are but a few of them.

You are in, or near the Naked Kobold, a sprawling tavern in the River District favoured by those with some money but little nobility. Adventurers, well-to-do pirates, Cyphermages, Calistrians, and the mercantile class favour this place. The gendarmes, the private army of Overlord Cromarcky, also give this place enough space so people can do proper business. It is also a famously good place for decent whiskey, a great fish soup, and information.

Everyone who wishes to participate in the open RP is in some way around this tavern. You are free to interact with each other, yourselves, or even invent NPCs to deal with.

Dark Archive

Here is her background and personality notes, here is her character sheet, all that is missing is her equipment.

Background:
Zelda was born and grew up Smokeside in Alkenstar, the daughter of a werewolf Shield Marshal. With a keen interest in both guns and magic, Zelda enrolled at x College to study magic. It was during a 'field trip' to the Spellscar Desert that a freak wild magic storm 'killed' Zelda, or so that's what she says. All anyone else can say is she dropped to her knees, then fell unconscious for a few hours. Something happened that day to make Zelda a Black-Blooded Spellscar oracle. She continued her wizard training, but her blood calls to her too, making it difficult to stick solely to that. Recently, Zelda has decided to leave home and see the world to continue her study of magic. Having heard of the Blot, she's come to Riddleport.

Personality:
Despite her mother being a shield marshal (or maybe because of) Zelda is a bit of a rebel. She is a free spirit, and damn anyone who would try to restrict her freedom or anyone else's.

Sovereign Court

(To avoid alias bloat, I typically don't start using an actual alias until chosen for a game.)

(Cherry Razarin)

At the bar, squeezed sideways between a pair of gendarmes who otherwise do their best to give her a wide berth, is a perky-looking woman who, upon a second glance, clearly bears the marks of an infernal heritage -- the long, whipping tail being the clearest giveaway. Garbed in a sleeveless bodice that reveals elaborate star-and-flower patterns on her right shoulder, she holds a drink in her left hand while gesturing with her right as she bends the ear of the bartender.

"I know my Three-Devil from my Blackpeak, and my Irrisen Icewine from my Alkenstar," she says. "Look, you're obviously really busy, I'm sure you could use the extra pair of hands. Just keep me in mind, all right?" As the bartender looks skeptical, the woman continues, "Is it the horns? C'mon, when you're working an actual job nobody thinks you're involved in 'spooky business.' It's a nice talking point that draws customer interest."

Dark Archive

Upon hearing mention of Alkenstar, Zelda looks over at Cherry. She's a small (5' 3") black haired woman wearing a red riding hood, white dress, and buckled corset with thigh-high laced boots. Hooked to her belt is an elaborate pistol.

"Let her mix up something from Alkenstar for me. I'll tell you how she does." she says with a smirk.

Oh, and the fact that both Zelda and Cherry have tattoos (and Zelda even has Craft: Tattoo as a skill), that makes me remember to ask, what are your thoughts on crafting, most specifically Inscribe Magical Tattoo? Also, I didn't take the Campaign trait, since we aren't starting at the beginning, correct?

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

(Cherry Razarin)

The fiendling woman breaks into a pleased smile. "Mixed drink, eh? Fancy fancy," she says. She points to a bottle behind the bar for the bartender to pass to her. "Ice wine is usually sweet, and of course the typical advice is never to mix wines. But you can get some kick by adding a sweet-sharp taste." She nods as she pours out a small measure of Alkenstar into a glass. "Pomegranate," she says to the bartender, gesturing with a hand. The request for a fresh fruit causes a bit of a raised eyebrow, but the Naked Kobold is not exactly a dive bar. She splits the pomegranate with her fingernails and squeezes a small amount of pomegranate juice into the glass. "Ginger small beer," she requests, which causes even more consternation because usually more upscale establishments don't serve small beer, but a small quantity is scavenged up and stirred in. "The ginger small beer gives a nice sharp edge to the drink that helps to make the sweetness of the ice wine 'pop.'" She pops out a handful of the pomegranate seeds and sprinkles them into the glass. "Just a garnish." Her thin, flexible tail wraps around a stirring spoon and mixes the beverage.

"Here you are, one Red Icicle," she says. "Seems to suit your temperament."

Profession (innkeeper): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 (Assuming a 4th-level version of the character)

Dark Archive

Oh damn that does sound good, and like something Zelda would like... are you a bartender IRL or something? That's uncanny!

Zelda takes a sip and then says, "Impressive."

GM Info:
BTW, not sure if you looked at my character link above, but if you did I had to update it. Originally I made her with a 25 point buy so when I redid her stats I forgot that her 1st level feat has a prerequisite of Con 13. Now she should be correct and equipment is done too. Hopefully magic tattoos are okay (they are Paizo). Note that I paid double (4000g for a Natural Armor Tattoo +1 (on her shoulders) rather than the normal 2000g for an Amulet of Natural Armor +1) as per the rules.

I will select an avatar if chosen for the campaign, until then I will ask everyone suspend their disbelief and not picture Sos as a Swamp Fish:)

Sos.

Was a good pay out, only a little knife work, nothing nasty. Today was a good day. Wonder if Lavender is around. Na, my second best set of clothing dissipated last time she was over.

Sos strides thru the door, his average frame, standard looks and unarmored figure at odds with the looks of respect and polite words given him by the local patrons.

Sturdy boots, a matching belt, standard clothing identical to most in Riddleport did little set him apart from the other men.

The finely crafted blade at his side, however, screamed a different tale. It's hilt was worn, well used, but cared for. The metal blade, clean, sharp and dull in color, brought looks of fear and unease to some.

Old Thunder, neat, double please. What's Marny cooking today and does she have anything to go? Uncle Fritz's leg isn't feeling well, and he wants some dinner.

Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 4 +2 circumstance bonus on Sense Motive for locals and low lifes

Bluff:
Sending a secret message asking about "work".

Shade sat quietly in the corner, nursing her drink. Her hood was drawn up over her head so that her features were shadowed to the casual observer. As she sipped, her left hand drummed on the table, with a mote of shadow dancing around her fingers.

She listened to the conversation at the bar. Hmm. That drink sounded interesting. She finishes her drink, and moves to the bar.

Hey, barkeep. Could I have one of those?

Game designer, but one of the puzzles that my boss implemented involved mixing a drink for a character, so I've done my homework. Picked the Red Icicle because it seemed to fit the Red Riding Hood theme of your character, and I've never met a lady who liked sweet drinks and didn't like pomegranate.

(Cherry Razarin)

"Looks like things are heating up," she says to the bartender. "So, what's it gonna be?"

To Zelda she says, "The name's Cherry! Nice to meet you."

Also, this is gonna get confusing with Zelda and Nel both using the same avatar!

"Yeah, been out of the city a couple times but mostly this is where I am. You?" she replies.

Dark Archive

"The Grand Duchy of Alkenstar." she replies, "I miss it, but I had to leave because my mother and I didn't see eye to eye anymore."

Sovereign Court

(Cherry Razarin)

"Ouch," says Cherry as she leans back against the bar. "Sorry to hear that. Found work here yet? I'm guessin' by your traveling gear that you're not the typical sharecropper or day laborer."

Dark Archive

She smiles. "No, I'm not. I usually just take it day to day rather than look for a boring steady job."

Sovereign Court

(Cherry Razarin)

"Good luck to you then. As you can see, I'm busy doing the hustle for work." Cherry cranes her head back at the bartender. "So how about it? You've already got customers clamoring for me to mix something up for them. Or I could take my skills to another establishment."

In a corner sits a well dressed human. He oozes confidence as he carries on some flirty conversation with several enamored ladies. He pauses for a moment when he reaches for his drink to find barely a swallow left in it. "Well now. This just will not do. Excuse me a moment lovelies." He snaps his fingers as he addresses a rigidly standing woman against the wall near him. "Tesla! I really must have Binkbink teach you how to relax. You're cramping my style here. Be a dear and fetch us another round of drinks." With that he tosses a coin in her direction.

"Trajectory analysis complete."

Without moving her eyes Tesla bends her right arm 90 degrees palm up and pivots 6" outward, just in time for the coin to land in the center of her palm. She closes her hand around the coin and returns arm to its original position at her side for a brief moment before she steps forward and heads to the bar.

Walking toward the bar, her long purple hair falls between a finely crafted longbow that rests on her back and a longsword that bears the same unique circuitry markings on the hilt as are seen on the uncovered portions of her gray skin. She steps up to the bar in an opening next to a chatty tiefling (Cherry) and places the coin flat on the countertop. When asked for her order she replies with flawless Varisian dialect. "Rumm punch Captain Zhoron palun."

Varisian:
"Rum punch for Captain Zhoron please."

Perhaps under the maxim of doing the job you want to get, Cherry mixes another Red Icicle and brings it to Nel. "Here you go, miss," she says as she delivers the beverage. "Maybe not in the same class as Dragon Punch Whiskey, but I hope you enjoy it," she adds with a smile.

Shade sips it

Cherry leans over slightly conspiratorially and says, "It's the addition of the ginger beer -- gives it a bit of a head, which causes the wine to surprise you."

Um why are we still waiting on fluff from me? Background, Personality, and a link to a PDF character sheet are all above in spoilers. Am I missing something else?

Zelda looks at Tesla's purple hair and says, "Nice hair... reminds me of my mother when she was young and rebellious for all of five minutes."

Campaign Stuff:
I've got his looks and personality finished on the alias, and the basic beginning of his background; ran into a block, so I'll finish it off later today.
I'm also curious about Background Skills; I don't see mention of them in the character creation rules, but I'm not certain if they're in play or not.

Entering through the front is a ball of clutter and metal; the Dwarf is unusually tall for his species, but appears no-less square and he clangs and bumps his way through the patrons, making for the bar and whomever is tending it. He grunts as he hauls himself atop a stool, plopping his pack with an audible thud beside; removing his large helmet, he shakes out his blonde locks, depositing the hunk of metal with similar noise.

He looks between the man behind the bar, and the woman with the devil's tail mixing drinks, nodding to whichever of them meets his gaze first.

"Good evening. Your stablehand has offered to tend my mule as I procure lodging; I fear his eagerness has outweighed sense, as she is terribly overburdened." His accent when speaking Taldane is heavily Garundi, and he speaks deliberately, choosing his words with care. "If I might have a key, I will assist the young one in unloading my belongings. I would also like a meal, you could begin preparing. What is the fare of the day?"

My long lost twin Zelda! ;)

Zoso enjoys the scene that is unfolding before him in the tavern and sits up in his chair with a widening grin of mischief. Moments earlier the vibe had been quite stuffy and somber, but these travelers that have wandered in are infusing a second wind into the melancholy usual suspects.

As Cherry begins to pour her third cocktail for her swelling fanfare Zoso leans forward and catches the attention of those at his table. Beginning with soft swift playing, a bluegrass rift dances from his mandolin. Zoso's drinking partners start clapping and stomping along to the beat, the rendition of Bron-Y-Aur Stomp grows louder and can be heard clearly throughout the tavern.

Performance(Mandolin): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 (To excite the crowd)

A patron hoots with glee and another hollers out "Have a heavy hand girl!", as a couple begins to dance and tavern regulars can be seen singing along.

Zoso has casted Inspire Competence +2 on Cherry's Profession checks.

Grunyn:

I realized that in my initial post about unchained, I meant unchained classes rather than the various optional rules. I like background skills but as the other PCs in the party aren't created with them we'll go without.

The bartender is a brawny, black-haired human woman named Ophelia covered in tattoos well-known for her bare-knuckle fights in Zincher's Arena. She opens her mouth to respond, and soon finds herself passing bottles to Cherry, watching in amazement as the tiefling mixes elaborate drinks. She finally slams her hands on the bar, and points at Cherry.

"YOU. Sideshow, you're hired. Start getting some drinks out to these soggy plums, they want your foreign cocktails I can charge proper for 'em. Maybe get a few more of the fancylads in with their platinum if we serve drinks like that."

As the music fills the tavern and people begin to dance with one another, Ophelia calls out to Zoso as she rushes back and forth, sliding a rum punch across the bar to Tesla fast enough to send the drink off it not caught quickly enough.

"Get Zoso some drinks! I like this song!"

Finally, she notices Grunyn, an ocean of calm in the chaotic, noisy tavern.

"Ye what?! Oh. Here. OI NURGET, SOUP AND BREAD FOR THE WEIRD DWARF!"

Moving rapidly, she grabs a room key and slides it over. A surprisingly well-built gnome with violently green hair bursts from the kitchen, rushing a huge bowl of soup teaming with shellfish to Gunryn.

"Second floor, third on the left," she says as she tosses the key over for some silver and rushes to the next customer.

(Cherry Razarin)

The tiefling shakes her tail with a pleased expression. "You got it, boss!" She slides behind the bar and starts mixing drinks, then delivering them with a sashay that follows the music.

Taking 10 with the performance bonus kicks up that Profession check to a 20.

Sliding payment to the mistress of the bar in the form of a few silver weights stamped from the Bank of Absalom, Grunyn heaves from his stool, tilting it to lean against the bar and holding his place (as well as his soup). He gathers his helm, hammer, and pack, and trudges up to his room.

He appears at the staircase shortly thereafter, and makes two trips between quarters and the stable area, laden with all manner of adventuring gadgets and gizmos on each pass. Some twenty minutes later, he returns to the bar; he has removed his pauldrons and greaves, and bearing only his breastplate and hammer.

Grunyn eats his cooled meal in silence, picking vegetables and broth over the meat of the sea. He eats deliberately, taking as much care with spoon as he does when choosing his words; when the meal has been stripped of all but shellfish, he grudgingly begins to eat it as well, though anyone taking pains to observe would note he doesn't seem to enjoy it.

The crowd had grown raucous as libations flew from the saucy new hire behind the bar, her skillful concocting serving to loosen inhibitions of the other patrons. Grunyn, having finished his meal, presents his emptied dish, holding patiently as the staff scurry about. Spotting a chance, he motions with bowl and nod to the tiefling lass.

"Have you kahve? I would take it mixed with yoghurt and honey. I would also take what passes for a 'Dwarven stout' in this place."

He takes note of those nearest; it would seem several fine specimens of beauty find themselves dining here as well, and the entertainer yet played and sang.

"If you have kahve, it would be reasonable that you would have lagmi? Or perhaps the base, palm wine? I would have a glass of that as well, and one for those gathered here-", he gestures down the bar, particularly towards Zelda and Nel, "-one for the minstrel yonder. And one for you, lass. The perks of the job."

Grunyn places two pieces of gold and five of silver upon the bar, these bearing the mark of Janderhoff, giving a hard smile and what may be a welcoming nod to the barmaid.

Sovereign Court

(Cherry Razarin)

"Let's find out!" says Cherry with a wink. She heads back to the bar to see if they have any kahve, and to check for hot water for the same. As she hustles she makes something of a production of picking up empty mugs and bringing them back to the bar, spinning them in her hand before flipping them through the air to line up on her raised tail.

Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Dark Archive

Zelda nods and smiles at Grunyn, with the slightest hint of flirting.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Grunyn returns the nod with a wave of his tattooed palm; he does not seem to follow any hints of amorousness, but puts forth another hard smile. He speaks to the girl, his deep voice only needing to raise slightly to compensate for the din of the crowd.

"Good evening. I am Grunyn of the Pahmet. Have you been to Osirion? I do hope this stock contains at least a palm wine; you should find it quite pleasing to palate."
