Darven Aulamaxa
|
Darven moves up to the identical women on the left and attempts to trip her with us adamantine longspear that he pulls out while moving.
Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"I'm gonna need you to be giving up now, thanks!"
GM Silbeg
|
Darven fails to trip the woman, as she deftly steps out of the way of the spear.
Torgat is up!
Torgat Eaglecaller
|
Torgat glances from one of the woman to the other.
It's like a shell game, isn't it? The ones Master of Swords Farabellus warned us about when I first arrived in Absalom.
"Why would the thief hang around with her ill-gotten, shrunken keg of ancient, god-touched ale to put our donkey to sleep? That would be a job for her confederate."
He takes a five foot step closer to the woman who cast sleep on the donkey, lifts a vial of acid from a loop on his belt, and holds it ready to throw at Tersula.
"The real thief only showed herself once her partner was in trouble. Tersula here doesn't have our keg, she could not have dropped it on Meiomi's command even if she had wanted to. You, on the other hand," without taking his eyes off of Tersula, Torgat waves his free hand in the general direction of the woman who cast daze on Meiomi, "you do have our keg. I'd like you to hand it over to Darven, and then sit on the ground with your hands on your head. If Tersula moves or makes a sound, or if I hear you say anything before Darven tells me you've done everything I asked, I will throw this vial of acid at your sister."
Oh, gods, what did I just say? I feel sick to my stomach.
Readied action, as described. I hope I moved Torgat's token closer to the correct woman!
GM Silbeg
|
Please put your readied action in a spoiler. like the following
throw acid flask at Tersula: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 acid: 1d6 ⇒ 5
By the way, the sleep was cast on more than the donkey... the beast is the only one to have failed the save!
The woman you assume is Tersula seems to think for a moment, then acts. She starts moving away from Kinshasa and Torgat, which causes Torgat to throw his acid. She screaches when the flask hits her, but continues moving. She then casts a spell and disappears.

Darven attempts to trip the women in front of him again, then takes a 5ft step.
Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
But likely fails to do anything again other than continue his raging song.
"They seek to trick and deceive us. They seek to annoy us. Chase them down!"
GM Silbeg
|
Darven yet again fails to trip the woman.
Darvan, I assume if you get an AOO you will try to trip again?
Meiomi just stands there, with a glazed look on her face.
Darven Aulamaxa
|
Yes, that would be my AoO attack.
GM Silbeg
|
Durnel, just came to me while working on this turn, how are you tripping with a longspear, as it doesn't have the trip special feature
Kinshasa
|
In the cramped confines of the alleyway Kinshasa elects to dismount to make himself more easy to fit down the alleys.
He rushes in the direction of the alley that she disappeared down.
Darven Aulamaxa
|
The trip feature isn't required to trip with a weapon, its just nice if you fail by a whole lot because then you can drop it instead of knocking yourself prone.
GM Silbeg
|
Durnel, standing right next to the woman with his hands on his longspear, watches as she casts a spell. The spell cast becomes obvious, as she disappears once more. He then hears her running away towards the alley her sister went into.

I wrote up a longer, more detailed post, but coming back it looks like we are still in initiative? I'll post more later when the "combat" is over.
Torgat runs to the mouth of the alley to see if there is any sign of the twin thieves.
GM Silbeg
|
Torgat moves, but he does not see anything in the alleyway. However, he does hear the sound of footsteps coming from down the alley, and possibly a woman's breath.
Torgat perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

You know that the first time you saw one go invisible, it was a vanish spell, which has a very short duration, though that might be all they need.
Torgat Eaglecaller
|
Fair enough!
"Come along, Trex! The game won't get far on foot!"
Torgat runs into the alley to give chase, following the brief hint of his quarry.
Trex is faster than Torgat and has scent. Can I have Trex run a little ahead of Torgat (just a square or two) and alert him if he smells something he can't see?
GM Silbeg
|
That should be fine.
Trex seems happy, that there is something in front of him, then seems sad, like it left. The team spends a few minutes trying to find the two women.
Combat over, they have time to slip into the crowds.
You also realize that the scroll that GM Torch gave you will have a limited range, so you need to be close. Thinking back, you realize you have some clues as where to start.
Garekk
|
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
As the rest of the team is combing through the alley, Garekk rushes up, huffing and out of breath. He casts a deeply apologetic look to his companions, before explaining himself. "When I couldn't make it through the window, I tried to go around the wall and got caught by the guards! Those chelaxians took me captive and questioned me as a spy, and it took Grand Master Torch sending in a "special operative" to get me out through a hidden tunnel under their compound. It took a while, but he briefed me and told me that he sent you on this escort to try and draw out the thieves. I hurried as fast as I could, and only just now caught up with you!"
All of this comes out between panting breaths.. it is clear that the half orc must have run just about the length of the city trying to catch up to you.
Assuming that Garekk is filled in on the battle..
Garekk shakes his head morosely. "If only I had been here to help.." he begins. Carefully he thinks about all that has been told to him by the Grand Master and his companions. "Didn't Barnell say that the goods were normally kept over by the Ascendant Court in an old warehouse? Whats the most direct route that way?? Maybe we can catch them along the way. If not, we can stake out the building and see if anyone shows up!"
He immediately begins casting around the alley where the fight took place, looking for any evidence of the fleeing thieves. Once he gets his bearings, he sets off, hoping to redeem himself in the eyes of his friends.

Meiomi aid survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
As Garekk starts tracking, he loses the trail for a moment, and then Meiomi points out a scuff mark, which sets him off again!
Tracking through the city is not easy, but eventually, Garekk leads the team to an old warehouse. The exterior of this run-down warehouse is rotting, and the roof is clearly sagging in places. Any paint that once coated its walls has long since flaked off the parched-looking gray wood. The windows are boarded firmly shut, and both pairs of loading doors appear to be jammed closed.

"Are we going in loud or should we try and find a quiet way in?" Darven asks the group in a whisper.
"I imagine it wouldn't be too hard for us all to get the door open if we work together, but there is also likely some sort of side entrance as well." he says to explain his thoughts.
Torgat Eaglecaller
|
Trying to imitate Darven’s quiet confidence, Torgat stammers out a suggestion. ”Maybe we could use a distraction? I could call in some temporary assistance and if we got one of the doors open, it would go in and cause a commotion. A brief commotion, but I think it would definitely make some noise and maybe even attack one of our adversaries. If it could find them.”

Given the slippery nature that has been demonstrated I suggest we guard one door if we are using the other. What do the doors look like? Is there a handle or knob or something that we could jam to stop them escaping out the "back door"?
Darven Aulamaxa
|
"Oh, now there's a thought. I'd be fine with barging through the front door if you'd like...Also, maybe we should use that scroll of Locate Object before we barge in, you know, just to make sure." he says with a sly grin that barely disguises the gleam of mischief in his eyes.

The doors are generally sturdy warehouse doors. A quick test shows that the back door on the north, and the warehouse doors on the north are barred from the back side. The doors on the east appear be off of its rails, which would require some work to fix.
Please move your tokens to where you are working, when you are working!
EDIT: corrected that the doors to the east were off the rails
Torgat Eaglecaller

GM Silbeg

What about the doors to the east?
Corrected above -- the doors to the EAST are off their rails.

Does Locate Object require us to guess as to whether it is still shrunken or back to normal size? If it does, my vote is to assume it remains shrunk.
Torgat nods at Darven. "You're more qualified to try that scroll than I am, I think."
Trex hisses. The young wizard glances at his familiar anxiously. "I mean, I could probably do it, too, if you all think I should." He quickly turns to Meiomi. "Which set of doors would you rather try to open? The barred front doors, the barred back door, or the doors that are off their rails and stuck? Or Garekk should handle the door opening more directly, if with less subtlety?"
Trex - Compsognathus
|
The compsognathus sighs loudly.
Torgat Eaglecaller
|
Torgat hastily continues. ”Kinshasa, thinking about your idea, whichever doors we aren’t going to open, maybe we could move these carts in front of them? It won’t be as good as barring them from this side, but it ought to slow down anyone trying to leave in a hurry.” Torgat pauses for a moment, blinking. ”Hopefully that won’t be us.”
Kinshasa
|
That sounds prudent. Let us move the carts. I can also leave Kokina here since she wont really fit inside too well anyway. She can guard the cart. He moves toward the carts and readies to pull them into place.
Do we still have the mule for our cart? Would be be a reasonable action to have Kokina guard the donkey? She has low intelligence but does know the defend trick.
GM Silbeg
|
you still have the donkey and cart if you want it. Kokina can guard if she has the trick.
Garekk
|
Garekk moves around, helping to move the carts and block off the two barred doors before standing near the broken door. He looks at it closely before saying "I think that I should be able to get this open. When you are all ready, let me know and I will give it a try!!"

They then hear the sounds of breaking glass from within the warehouse, as two bundles of alchemists fire fall from the ceiling crashing into the crates below. Fires start in the warehouse!
