Ri'el's hair lashes out cracking one sailor with a solid thunk on the chest.

Arenya's illusion winks out, as she stopped concentrating on it.
Ri'el |
No worries. =) Here's the follow-up!
Ri'el presses his attack on the sailor he'd previously smacked. His hair extends and rises above him, and tightens itself into the shape of a massive fist before swinging down upon the head of the hapless sailor.

Arenya |
Arenya continues to sing as she tries to make her way over to the Man' Promise hoping to keep the crew's spirits up.
And now there's no hope,
You'll swing by the rope,
Or jump to the drink,
Else with yee boat you will sink,
We be pirates, and yee shark bait."

Garavaen Drusus |
Would I have an easier shot if I climbed up the rigging slightly, or if I crossed the boarding platform? Sadly, I can't get (improved) precise shot for a while yet.
GM Shathira |
Peppery has both ships covered in multiple fog clouds The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (attacks have a 50% miss chance

Sailor 3 attack on Ri'el: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Sailor 3 attack on Ri'el misfortune: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The sailor behind the ballista finishes loading his crossbow and takes aim across the ships trying to locate Garavaen. The bolt goes wide, as the sailor fails to spot Garavaen in the fog.
Arenya climbs across the rope to the Man's Promise, all the while maintaining her song.
Astein again attempts to catch someone in his gaze, but the sailor shakes his head quickly, clearing the effects of Astein's power. Still his eerie cackle seems to rise up over the din of the fight.
Having made her climb up the side of the ship, narrowly avoiding a shark attack, Davina pulls out a packet of somewhat soggy colored sand, and casts it into the air. The sand fans out in a fan of colored light which strikes three of the sailors, two of them slump to the ground overwhelmed by the display. The third has his attention diverted and manages to avoid the effects.
Ri'el's hair fist slams into the sailor, who gets a bewildered look on his face, and mutters "...hair? before his legs go to jelly and he slumps to the deck.
The remaining two sailors move preparing to attack. One coming down portside stairs, and the other moving down the starboard stairs, where she looks to be waiting. The sailor coming down the portside stairs, cuts at Ri'el with his shortsword. Ri'el manages to slide to the side to avoid the stab.
The group finds itself fully engaged in the fighting now, but can still hear the clash of steel on steel muted through the fog. As the white clouds roil over the deck, and smoke starts to rise from belowdecks pushing aside some of the fog, the pitched battle continues. Pirates and Sailors alike twist in a macabre dance, and the sounds of combatants falling overboard, and then the horrid shrieks as the sharks tear into their meal sound above it all.

Astein cackles further as his hair flies free and he moves to climb across to the ship.
All are sleeping or have misfortune so might as well join the fray. I don't think anyone is covering the ropes any longer so he should be able to take 10, yes?

Ri'el stands his ground against the sailor who tried to stab him. He draws his fist back, and as he does so his hair quickly wraps and coils around it. A second later, Ri'el lashes out with his fist, as if to punch the sailor. He is not close enough that a normal punch would connect, but the hair around his arm extends towards the sailor in a corkscrew motion, taking the shape of a ram's head as it surges towards the sailor.

Davina, seeing a chance to further reduce the blood shed on both sides, casts a spell and gives one of the men a smile as she bows to him.

Arenya continues her song, and readies herself to make an attack with her dagger, but Ri'el blocks her way from doing just that.
Davina has a hard time peering through the fog, but a breeze clears away a cloud and she spots the sailor by the Ballista. In a clear voice she calls out to the man while making a small gesture with a free hand, "Would you please help us convince your crew mates to surrender to stop this bloodshed."
The man blinks slowly a few times, and then nods to Davina, "Of course, we're only sailors, not warriors." He sheathes his sword and starts to move towards the sailor on the port stairs, "Hey, stop this, we don't want any bloodshed."
The man looks back at his compatriot like he just grew a second head, just in time for Ri'el's hair to slam into him like a runaway carriage. Breath explodes out of the man's mouth and he slumps to the ground with a squeaking groan.
Garavaen runs full speed down the stairs and across the boarding plank, dodging past a couple of fights between members of the two ship's crews, and sets himself to where he has a clearer view of the aft deck, if only the damned fog would subside.
Something seems to catch Ri'el's eye, and he looks like he's about to do something but the other sailor comes charging across the deck, and slams into Ri'el's side, Ri'el strikes out with his hair, trying to slow her, but the strands miss their mark as Ri'el goes over the side of the ship into the water.
Ri'el |
Posted in the discussion about the prehensile hair and natural attacks in general. There is a special rule that applies. =)
"Captain Harrigan! Behind you!" Ri'el calls out as he notices the sailor sneaking up behind Harrigan. Unfortunately, he is sufficiently distracted by that sailor and does not notice another sailor rushing towards him before it is too late. He curses as he is knocked over the side of the ship.
Unless the bull rush knocked me more than 5ft, I might be able to grab on to the gunwales with my 10ft-reach hair? If I can, should I make a roll? Acrobatics? Reflex save? Initiative roll to see if I'm quick enough?
Arenya |
Arenya notices the Sailor sneaking up on the Captain. While Ri'el calls out a warning she rushes forward toward the sailor weaving the somatic components of a spell into her song as she brings a touch of butter out of almost nowhere in a flash.
Rush towards the sailor to block his way and cast grease before him. DC 14
Garavaen Drusus |
Garavaen shouts, "Captain, behind you!" in concert with Ri'el, and starts to bring his crossbow up, knowing that he's moving too slowly to help.
Can I try to fire a shot off anyway, Shathira, or am I still recovering from the double move to get across?
Davina Kurikami |
Seeing Ri'el going over the side but being unable to help, Davina steps away from his attacker and casts yet another spray of color from her hands.
I take a 5' step to the left of my current position and then cast another color spray to get the guy who just shoved Ri'el overboard (dc 16).

Arenya warns the captain at the same time Ri'el and Garavaen do, and she moves closer pulling out a wad of butter, and flinging it in the sailor's direction. The little bit of butter hits the ground, and splashes out a huge gout of grease that coats the deck around the sailor's feet. As he reaches his weapon back for the blow, his feet slip out from under him and he hits the ground with a groan and a thud.

I'm not going to be able to make that check, so I'll just say I fall into the water.

Ri'el casts his spell, and clambers up the side of the ship as the shark comes back, narrowly missing the Shaman as he leaves the water, trailing blood and seawater as he makes his way back up to the deck.
Astein Longblade |
Does Astein see someone attacking the captain? If so he will try and glare a misfortune at the foe. Otherwise, I'm not sure about next steps, but would likely start binding enemies with ropes if possible.

"Well then, it seems someone takes a real hard line against abandoning the ship."
That seems a little harsh for a paladin? Also, I take it Morgrym is our enemy at the moment?

Ri'el climbs as fast as he can away from the water and the shark, still feeling the effects of the blood loss from the shark's bite. Looking around he notices that there is a dwarf fighting several sailors that look like they are trying to escape the battle. Exactly what Capt Harrigan told the group not to allow.

Sailor 11 Sailor Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Sailor 11 will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
The fighting is momentarily halted when a loud explosion comes from belowdecks. The cargo hold doors are blown open, and you see Kipper, still smoldering, stagger up from the hold, with a large grin on his face.
One of the sailors starts to work on the aft most rope, trying to release the boat, and the mechanism loosens just a bit.
Astein gives that sailor the 'evil eye' and the sailor seems shocked at first, but shakes his head and goes back to the ropes.
Through the fog, the group see Capt Harrigan give a nod of approval before he and the officers make to bash in the captain's quarters doors. He looks back at the party before entering and shouts, "Protect the wheel, an' don't let any of these lubbers escape!" before the cabin is engulfed again in the fog. Looking about, brief glimpses through the fog show more men lying on the deck, and flashes of swordplay. The muted clang of metal on metal echoes eerily through the fog, almost dreamlike. Ribbons of fog peel away briefly revealing that more Rahadoumi sailors litter the deck than sailors.
Initiative order:
Sailor 11
Astein
Garavaen
Davina
Ri'el
Sailor 9
Morgrym
Arenya
Sailor 10
Sailor 11 and Astein have already given actions. Given the order, go ahead and post, but remember if you are likely to go AFTER others that haven't posted, things may change due to their actions. If a target you're going for dies, and you haven't given a contingency, I'll most likely just move your actions/rolls to the next logical tactical choice. If there's any question about moving you into a bad spot, I'll ask you to clarify an action. So go ahead and post, I'll sort out the order, and it'll make combat go faster.
Davina Kurikami |
Crap, forgot to post my action over the weekend. It woulda been the same as what I intend for the new round. If I simply missed my chance then oh well.

Ri'el begins to breathe easier as Davina's healing flames wash over him. He pops his remaining berries into his mouth and chews them as he makes his way towards the retreating sailors and the strange dwarf hacking away at them.
"You heard the captain! Stop them from escaping on the boats!"
"So what's the story? Seeing as we're attacking this ship, I sure wasn't expecting to find someone from this ship helping us," he says to Morgrym as he prepares to thump another sailor with his hair next turn.
Ri'el should be at 12/13 now.
Garavaen Drusus |

Determined not to let the sailors escape, Ri'el attempts a desperate gamble.
I'm out of actions, but talking is a free action...
Putting on his most menacing and throatily guttural voice, Ri'el bellows at his teammates, though his true audience is the retreating sailors.
"Don't let them get that boat free! The scroll to scuttle that boat ain't cheap, and there ain't nearly enough of them to make it a worthwhile spectacle to see the sharks fight over their sorry carcasses! If I need to use it, the cost to replace it will be coming out of your share of the plunder!"

"Flee sailors, flee,

And there they wait, the sharks be there,
To feast on yee, with none spare,
So flee, yee sailors, flee"
Arenya continues her battle song. +1 to Attack, Damage and Saves for everyone.
She throws a piece of butter and casts grease once again, to hinder the sailors (on the right) who are trying to lower the boat. DC 14
Garavaen Drusus |
Last post got eaten -- thinking I may have previewed rather than posting the final version...
Garavaen shouts, "They're working on the ropes to lower the lifeboats! Best stop that.", and rushes past the wheel, ready to fire at the first target he sees through the fog.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 12 for 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
And apparently the dice roller doesn't love second posts as much as first ones.
Davina Kurikami |
Eep, missed that clause, means I couldn't have done it last round either as I healed him from a crossbow hit before actually boarding the other ship. Kinda dumb it can't be used more than once per day to heal, it heals so little, oh well.
Davina moves up to try and reach the sailors to disable them with another spray of light.

Arenya continues her song, as Garavaen rushes around the wheel and fires a shot at the sailor he sees there, trying to untie the ropes. The shot thunks into the yardarm near the sailor, missing.
Ri'el rushes across the deck, yelling at the sailors, trying to bluff them into stopping. Two of the sailors pause, but the third yells at them, "Harrigan the heartless is the captain of that ship! He'll kill us aaahuuup" The end of his speech cut short by him slipping on the grease slick that appears under his feet, and the rest of the sailors near the boat.
