There is plenty within the room. Elemenar discovers a magical naginata leaning on the wall. There are objet d'arts in places, and even cold coinage The books on the shelves are military treatises and the scrolls are military orders detailing troop movements in the dying days of Lung Wa. (These would certainly be of historical interest to Mai Chun and weigh 200 pounds in total.) The giant map of the region that became Shokuro is highly detailed. Someone with a steady hand carefully marked several remote locations in various mountain ranges. The border of the map is an intricate depiction of the Dragon Empires zodiac.

On the desk looks to be a true find, as it's covered in papers. They are a series of one-sided correspondences in Tien from an adjutant of the last Lung Wa emperor to General Chiang Zhen. The adjutant thanks General Zhen for his visit to a recent military summit at a place called the Summer Palace.

DC 15 Knowledge (history) or Knowledge (nobility) check:

You identify the Summer Palace as a near-legendary palace believed to have been lost when the empire fell.

Though these letters are putatively written on behalf of the emperor, their tone is familiar, even intimate, and hints at a close relationship between the adjutant and the general. Details about the sunsets viewed between mountain peaks and constellations seen from the Summer Palace provide hints as to the lost Summer Palace’s location.

Zadim smiles as he looks though the books. "It'll be a little rough, but I can carry most of this. Shall we get it to Mai Chun?"

With 19 STR, I think I can get almost all of the books and only be in my medium load with my gear.

Eyden is not trained in either of the knowledge skills needed, unfortunately. Anyone else?

"That sounds good, Zadim, thank you." Eyden walks over to the wall to take a closer look at the map. "This is fascinating. And didn't Mai Chun say we should retrieve any maps we find as well?"

"Ah. The Summer Palace. I thought it existed only in legend. Somehow I suspect that Mai Chun is going to be interested in this place."

Elemenar points over at the naginata leaning against the wall. "By the way, that thing over there is magical."

Elemenar continues to look through the paperwork.

The party continues to look about the room, until they're confident that all the papers are accounted for. With that, it's time to head back.

You return to Ashima with the books, map, and letters; Mai Chun is overjoyed. She bids you to stay while she goes over the adjutant’s letters, and her eyes go wide with realization. She unrolls the large map across her table and traces the identified sites. Mai Chun explains , "the location of the Summer Palace has been lost since the fall of Imperial Lung Wa; the treasures it contains are unknown but likely significant. Although the materials that the you recovered from the estate aren’t sufficient to pinpoint the Summer Palace’s location, I believe they are a good start."

Tapping her fingernail on the map, she muses
“The moon, with joy enough to tear the heavens,
Sinks to the horizon, and suddenly,
The Spring has grown old.”

Mai Chun asks you to help her find the Summer Palace.
She grins widely and asks , “Who wants to make history?”

That is the conclusion of this quest! Excellent job everyone. I'll be switching to the passenger seat now. Once everyone is good to go here, post as such, then post in the next thread (Inkstains), and then I'll archive this one!
