Using Staunton Vhane's notes while checking over the Corruption Forge was a good idea, given the amount of minutiae it contained. Without it, you wouldn't have been able to understand the forge's workings. Eventually, though, Rowan was able to piece together the various bits of information into a coherent picture of what would need to be done. Functionally, the work that needed to be done was a lot like creating a new magic item - someone with the talent to craft magical weapons and armor, wondrous items, or simply the talents of a Master Craftsman (through the feat) had to try and redeem the forge while the area was under the effects of a Hallow spell. There was only so much room in the forge, but it was an immensely difficult task, and up to four people could join in to help redeem it (Everybody making Spellcraft rolls). It was an all-day job, so whoever did that wouldn't have time to do anything else to help the city.

And that was just the start of your week...

On the tenth day, Rowan took Soltengrebbe out for a ride to introduce him - which did cause quite a bit of panic at first, until word spread of what was going on. The chimera had made his home at the top of the citadel's northwestern tower, and had apparently been living there even before meeting your group. He clearly liked the attention, too, often rolling onto his back and gently pawing at any visitor he got.

Meanwhile, the healing continued apace... and through your dedicated efforts, you were able to ensure that everyone who needed that kind of support got it.

Day 15 We are doing another week correct?

crafting mastery applies at least.

Rowan's got some apologizing to do for scaring the bejezuz's out of people haha.

Created a wealth spoiler, costs for recruiting and building guildhall have been removed.

Seeing the Chimera's battered den gave Rowan an idea, one she'd enjoy making a reality. She'd build him a den worthy of a protector of Drezen. Before that she had much to do, so she bide Soltengrebbe farewell. Running her hands through his soft fur and scratching the itchy spots of each large head. "I will return to see you again. my friend." With a broad smile she departed, set on gathering those of importance to assist with redeeming the forge.

Sosiel, Aravashnial, and Nurah to chronicle either their success and failures. She called on her companions, Julian and Anathya to assess if they can assist or not. She had Meiyun present as well, she hoped with the presence of so many made her feel more comfortable of their chance of success.

"Before we begin, let it be known this will take all day, if you cannot commit to this then speak up before we begin."

she waits for everybody's response before asking Sosiel. "can you cast Hallow for us?"

"Julian, Sosiel, Aravashnial and Myself will focus on the ritual. Meiyun, we will need your expertise to redeem this forge." She bids the others who couldn't fit in the forge room good day, releasing them but asking Nurah to watch and record what was witnessed here.

We can exchange people depending on who has the higher spell craft bonuses, Anathya, I didn't see any on your sheet. But if you have some we can swap someone out.

One everyone was positioned Rowan pulled out her Rosarius of the Inheritor, she prayed for their success prior to beginning her part of the ritual o redeem the dark forge. She brought forth her mythic power to see it done, her body shining brightly as she invoked her goddess will.

Day 15

Julian opens his eyes at the summons, he had been resting but he quickly nods in acceptance to his role as asked of him by Rowan. "As you command Rowan." He rises from where he was resting, shirtless, among the well stacked materials that would soon become the very walls of his new workshop.

He waits for the Hallow spell to be cast and takes up his place, focusing his great intelligence into seeing the great forge redeemed. Hearing Nurah was to chronicle it he flashes her a charming smile. "Make sure you get my good side, will you." His skin appeared far more bright due to the sheen of sweat that beaded across his exposed upper body. His body was leaner now, muscles more defined after so many days of rations and hard fighting. He rolled his shoulders, cracking his stiff neck before he started to focus. Concentrating as he spread his wings, slowly fluttering them and causing the air to stir with each wing beat. He focused on a small prayer for Desna to lead them on the right path, hoping that the celestial body that appeared would be a good omen.

Days 16-21 - 6 days of activity

Not buying anything back from loot sheet so procewith my shares as planned.

Will change some of his days activities to assist with the Forge if Our above rolls weren't enough.

Expenditures thus far:

Alchemy Lab (1,940 gp - Minused from shares) + lodging (10 people) (430 gp use 10 Goods, 1 Influence, 10 Labor to get it done instead of GP) + an additional Alchemy Lab (8 Goods, 1 Influence, 5 Labor, 1 Magic (390 gp))( Now upto Six people will be able to work and live there, with 3 assistants to assist and 1 room empty.) + Bedroom (costs 8 Goods, 7 Labor (Roughly 300 gp))

The bedroom is a front for as a secret way for Julian to move between the well secret room behind the well appointed room and former Torture halls.

With that said building on the bedroom an Escape Route (9 Goods, 9 Labor (Equivalent of 360 gp)) and will spend 1500 gp to upgrade the three secret doors if needed to well hidden secret doors.

Total Costs and Gains - 1940 GP + 1500 (UPGRADED Secret Well Hidden Doors Perception Dc 30) + 10 goods, 1 influence, 10 labor (430 GP) + 8 Goods, 1 Influence, 5 Labor, 1 Magic (390 gp) + 8 Goods, 7 Labor (300 GP) = 2440 gp + 26 goods, 2 influence, 1` magic and 29 labor for a total of roughly 4590 gp total.

Recruit 9 craftsmen (Alchemist's - Aiming for Tieflings and other odd races more inclined for Alchemical research and able to survive... mishaps. Total cost 9 Goods, 6 Influence, 12 Labor (600 gp) - Recruitment time Six Days

He seeks to hire a Guildmaster to see to the day to day activities of the Alchemists and ensure nothing goes awry while he is performing his hero duties. He'll hire them for 62 days (310gp)

Total Costs - 2440 gp + 35 goods, 8 influence, 1` magic and 41 labor + 310 gp (62 days of Guildmaster) for a total of roughly 5500 gp total.

Donated 2,000 gp

-450 gp for a dispel magic scroll

Removed the above from his character sheet (4890 gp).

Also the Shop portion of the Alchemist area will be setup outside in a small abandoned house or store front. The majority o the items they produce will be for the benefit of the defenders but cureatives and cure all's will be sold to the general public as well.

During the next 6 days he spends them advancing his efforts on recruiting a team of like-minded alchmists and a guildmaster to lead them in his absence. Until the Alchemy lab was built, and all the other additions, they wouldn't be able to begin but it didn't stop him from expanding his thoughts on the rebuilding of Drezen.

"We need... Housing and a hospital. I doubt a farm would grow anything useful for us. Most likely the land is still too poisoned."

He flies daily along the dried up river bed, looking fro grottos and other caves where untainted water may yet lie.

Perception take 10+15 = 25

He was interested in seeing to the construction of a reservoir system, so pure water could be readily accessible to the City resident's.

He looks at the buildings within the perimeter walls of Citadel Drezen, looking for a building that once was or could be suitable for the construction of a Hospital.

As he searches the inner walls he looks into the broken tower's and what it would take to restore them to normalcy. He also looked for anything that could be turned into an Inn or a Tenement for the purpose of housing and caring for the citizens. Unlike his companions he was rather well off with his current equipment. Instead he was focused on humanitarian efforts, because the last thing he wanted was demons or their allies to prey on the suffering population. He wouldn't let them get a foothold, wven if it costed him everything he earned.

So depending on if he finds suitable buildings he will look into building the following: Hospital (2,080 gp), Tenement (2,120 gp), Grotto (500 gp), Reservoir System (400 gp)

He spends time searching for rumors, information and anything useful from the survivors of Drezen. He was trying to ensure he gained popularity among them in an attempt to sway them to their side and ensure they didn't despair and turn back to darkness. Being a Tiefling meant he held an especially important role, surviving the Worldwound and resisting the temptation of falling into the darkness that was his bloodline.

Day 16-21

Rowan starts funding the reconstruction of the Citadel, making rooms whole again and creating new ones to change the insides of the fortress some. She wasn't about to leave the layout completely the same and Soltengrebbe's lair was on her mind.

Not sure what that will cost, give me a ball park figure. Will produce a map that is fitting for repairs and such, will try and get it laid out how the Citadel could look like. Irabeth's word though is law she is the Overlord after all.

From there though she works to retrain her abilities, becoming a better warrior and casting aside useless skills.

Retraining - Familiar from Arcanist as well as Improved Familiar.

She will instead take Item Crafting with Arcanist - Choosing Wondrous Item creation and Furious focus for her replacement feat.

Didn't you take Crafting Mastery, Rowan? Any particular reason you want a Crafting feat to go with it?

At Rowan's request, Sosiel held up his own holy symbol and began praying aloud. Light poured forth, settling over the area as Rowan focused on directing the cleansing energies through the horror. Julian joined in a moment later, as did Meiyun and several others - and while the going was slow, in the end the curses were pushed back and consumed by the divine energies. When the last bit vanished, the foulness that still clogged the room vanished, and instead an aura of peace settled over the chamber.

The Corruption Forge has become a Purity Forge. It can be used to rework evil magic items into good magic items. An unholy weapon can be made into a holy weapon, for example, or a wand of unholy blight can be transformed into a wand of holy smite. However, some evil magic items don't have an obvious good analogue. In such cases, the GM will pick an appropriate oppositional item for the magic item to be redeemed into. To redeem a magic item, the redeemer must work as if he were crafting the item from scratch, yet the forge supplies much of the magic and energy for the process. Ignore any spell or cost requirements for crafting the redeemed item, and the time required to complete the task is 1/4 the time it would normally take to craft the final item from scratch. At the end of the redemption process, the redeemer must succeed at a Spellcraft or Knowledge (religion) check (DC = 5 + the item's caster level) to redeem the item-if the redeemer fails this check, the item is not redeemed; this can be attempted again, starting the process anew. This function has been added to Meiyun's Forge in the campaign info tab, although you're quite welcome to use it yourself if you prefer.

Meanwhile, work continued in the rest of the city - although not long after Rowan started asking around about repairing the citadel, someone noted that Irabeth was working on that, especially since fully repairing the fortress was critical to the continued defense of the area. Meanwhile, Anathya was working on recruitment efforts and collecting useful defensive options, even as Julian looked into buildings. Those seemed rather easy for the most part, given the number of buildings still standing in town, and simply depositing the funds would likely be enough to get those set up. <-Note to actually say you're doing this and subtracting your money, or it won't get counted. XD Looking into something isn't the same as doing it. Finally, Rowan... spent a fair bit of time training for what was to come, even as the city continued to generate supplies that could probably start being spent anytime now...

Julian's plans

Day 22-28

Julian's efforts to [re]build a hospital and simple housing. Though the housing was uncomfortable it was better then living on the streets, it also was built within the protective (still broken) walls of the newly captured citadel. Though rough it was a start.

For the next several days he spent his time gathering priests, acolytes namely, to man the hospital. Even if their skills were basic it was better then Sosiel taking all the duties himself. Julian informs the other officers of the hospital that was started, asking if Sosiel could be a point of contact to the priests manning the new building.

Julian built a large team, some twenty seven people to run, manage and support the Hospital's operations. Its proximity to the citadel meant that his alchemists could easily deposit potions for use by the Hospital. The storefront would mean ease of access for the public as well, Julian wasn't looking to be making a lot of money. Mainly enough to cover operations costs and maintain a comfrotable lifestyle for his workers. The rooms in the citadel provided stability in an otherwise unstable city, but he hoped to foster a positive enviroment under his protective wings.

Posting for Rowan

Rowan's Day 22+(? see below, involves crafting) - Involves Anathya

The restoration of the forge was a major high for the paladin. She looked forward to redeeming items and making them worthy of crusader hands.

Though her immediate thoughts were on her new companion, her roommate and friend. The woman spent hard earned gold in supplying their journey and Rowan, who felt the gods had graced her greatly, would repay the valiant nature that was Anathya.

So she left her an invitation to meet Meiyun and Rowan in the forge room. Which Rowan had been helping to reorganize alongside the Forgemaster Meiyun. When she arrived Rowan was wearing merely a wrap around her breasts, an armored kilt and a head band to keep the sweat out of her eyes, the heat of the forge room was sweltering to her but a couple barrels of water were sitting off to the side for the pair to douse themselves as they worked the forge.

When Anathya arrived Rowan smiled and nodded in greeting. "Julian sends his regards, but he donated to the cause as well." She waves her hand to the silver coffer she had kept, guiding her friend over to open it and revealing the contents to be six thousand gold pieces. "It is my hope we can improve your gear, among providing good gear and rewards to the other valiant warriors among the faithful that came here. If we need more Julian has already agreed we will provide it."

Depending on what enchantments that may be all Rowan can accomplish this week.

Rowans focus is providing Longsword with Bane eventually to soldiers throughout the city. Literally turning the force into a demon slaying force. If we every get steady income she would include armor of defiant nature or enchantment resisting and such as well.

She's got lofty goals.

Also instead of a crafting feat she will take reactive healing, seems prudent with the possibility of being nearly one shot by foes at some point and passing out would be bad.

Aside from Anathya's weapon enhancements Rowan was going to look into improving Soltengrebbe's residence as well, buying the mighty chimera a large bed and other comfort items so that it doesn't forget its friends. The Chimera has a very special place in Rowan's heart.

Arles Jhestander was on her mind as well, the man was a come back story worthy of praise and admiration. Once she was done with enchanting Anathya's blade she made her way back to the chapel and recovered her Defiant Chainmail of Iomedae (+1) and the enchanted longsword they had that was more proficient in cutting. On the armor she bought and enchanted magical wax to imprint the symbol of Anathya and hang from it holy scriptures. In Celestial she wrote in the wax. 'Faithful, Always.'

Let us know what it would cost for the Embellishment and furniture for Soltengrebbe, just a base cost is fine Rowan says. Also if she can exchange the Keen for Bane then she would do so. To make the weapon more effective.

When she had time she delivered the goods herself, arriving in full battle dress to deliver the reward. She of course gets Irabeth's permission before hand to ensure she wasn't seen as being overly favoring of Arles.

Diplomacy +MP: 1d20 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 19 + (6) = 39

She speaks to Arles of how he was an inspiration, though he had been battered by cruel experiance he had made a return. Made a shining example of a man whose faith was sorely tested and when hers was fractured he became a pillar for which to lean on. She spoke of what she expected in the future and ensured that all knew that if ever they were in doubt they could seek her out for counsel. For now that Drezen was rebuilding it was not a time to lose the ground they had bled for to gain, but to continue forward as she had said weeks before. To be the sword of the 5th Crusade and to continue to inspire all of Mendev through their faith and dedication.

"I expect many great things from you Arles, I hope to continue to rely on you and that you use your demon fighting experience with the newer soldiers taht will eventually be coming to Drezen. Also keep Jestak training as well."

Having kept herself busy with recruitment and the purchase of supplies, Anathya was pleasantly surprised when she found the note from Rowan, knowing how hard she;d been working at the forge. As she enters the forge, she could feel the incredible heat emanating from it, making her glad she wore just a linen shirt and breeches rather than her armor. Still her eyes widened and it took all of her decorum for her jaw not to drop at the sight of Rowan. Even sweating from the heat of the forge, and hard work, the Sword of Iomedae was a stunning vision of almost angelic splendor, yet offset by a natural ease that was simply magnetic. It was no wonder that any number of people would literally follow her into the hells, herself definitely included.

As Rowan smiles and addresses her, she refocuses her thoughts, taking in the silver coffer and running through the idea of enhancing one of her weapons. Rowan's generosity, and her constant focus on thinking about everyone but herself truly new no limits, leaving Anathya with a warm feeling inside.

Returning the smile she nods. "I think that’s a wonderful idea. I usually depend on my cross bows but there are times where I’ll need to fall back on my sword, and I should try to make it as effective as possible.” she says unbuckling the longsword at her hip, drawing it a bit to display the dark grey, almost black, iron blade that doesn’t reflect either the burning flames or glowing hot metal in the area, and smells of freshly spilt blood though impeccably clean. As she hands it to Rowan a feeling of safety and security comes with it. ”I was thinking if there’s a way to improve it’s effectiveness against the resistances of the enemy.”

Looking to have it enchanted with the Planar quality. A planar weapon is effective against all types of extradimensional beings, able to pierce their resistance to physical harm. When used to attack outsiders, a planar weapon ignores 5 points of their damage reduction.

During the course of the next week she focuses on the training of her small band of hunters and scouts, passing on her skills and focusing on identifying threats and hazards on the outer fringes of the fortress' inhabited areas.

Let's see... that's +1 to +2, Anathya? Yeah, 6000 GP covers that quite nicely. XD There's enough to enhance another weapon up to +2 as well... and don't forget that Meiyun can help as well. o wo/ ...It's kind of freaky what you can do when you have a gestalt character dedicated entirely to crafting.

As for swapping Keen to Bane... officially, weapons are only additive. But I've always thought that was a little bit blah. XD Swapping to Bane is fine, though it costs half of what it would take to craft the next +1-equivalent bonus on that item. *Can't let you swap effects for free, but doesn't think it's worth the price of an actual upgrade, either*

Work on the city was progressing nicely, while below, hammers rose and fell as they imbued your tools with the power that would be needed in the days to come. Meanwhile, up above, Soltengrebbe seemed to be enjoying the fact that he was once again home in his tower. He was too large to easily fit into the rest of the Citadel, but that didn't stop him from pawing at various doors until he had at least one of you to sleep with at night. Fortunately, it only took twenty or so coins to fully furnish his lair - the Chimera seemed happy enough as long as he had his friends and someplace soft to sleep on.

Speaking of the citadel, the walls were starting to gleam now, and much of the damage it had suffered was being repaired. The Sword of Valor continued to protect the fortress and the lands around it, and either the demons hadn't yet made a move against you. Meanwhile, Julian's efforts at helping to ensure stability definitely seemed to be bearing fruit, and you could see the signs of people starting to fall into a stable daily routine. There was much work that remained to be done, but you were making progress. Not just in the physical defenses, but in bolstering the hearts of the men and women who had come into the Worldwound to take a stand against corruption.

For Rowan

Response to Aanthya

Minused from Rowan's shares Rednal. Consider the gift delivered in a week to Arles. And Anathya has the right of it, she is trying to keep morale up and keep the city upbeat. Especially those warriors who struggled the most.

Rowan's smile dimmed some, she exchanged a meaningful look with Meiyun as she considered what Anathya had mentioned. "I am sure we can make something together. I fully admit that Meiyun is a Torag's daughter reborn, a forge and crafting goddess who I have the honor of learning from." Her smile returned full force as she doused herself with another wave of refreshing water. She dipped the tankard back into the barrel and offered it to Anathya then. "It is also bloody hot down here. I'm starting to understand how dwarves are so good at forging. Apparently my kind were meant to fly in the heavens, not forge beneath the earth." She gives a laugh like silver bells

"I am looking into the means to hasten the rebuilding of Drezen but it may cost the rest of what I have. Itf it works though, Drezen will be restored much, much more quickly."

Day 29 - Partial

Having sent a warm night sharing a room with her companion and leaving Rowan to be grabbed up by Soltengrebbe. Much to her amusment. Rowan started to delve into the creation of items that would benefit the city as a whole. eing in the Worldwound meant that the earth was tainted, so fresh water was a must. Rebuilding the city took precedence and she remember a few tricks her more well-off Sword Sisters used to stay ahead year before.

K-Arcana - Items that can aid in construction or city development?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

K-Arcana - Items that can provide clean sources of water?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

K-Nature - Creatures or Plants known to purify the ground and ground water they live in?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

She spends most of her morning researching this, enlisting the aid of other officers as needed. Starting with Anathya as she was closest at hand. "Do you know creatures or objects that can aid in city building, water supplies and purifying the earth?"After saying it she laughs aloud, in her head it sounded fine but spoke aloud it made her sound mad. She chuckles almost to the point of tears. "Forgive me, I do mean it in the most useful sense. I was pondering last night as to what could be used to give us more ample and pure water supplies consistently and aid in rebuilding this city more quickly while purifiyng the ground surrounding Drezen. Trying to put my funds to good use, but it does make me sound daft."

Baby calling again, more to come! I wrote down his ideas while he was semi conscious. Pain meds knocked him out hard...

Anathya returns the smile with one of her own, an expression that was rare on the inquisitor’s face, though becoming much less so. Accepting the tankard she douses herself as well. It certainly was refreshing and a definite, if brief reprieve from the heat of the forge.

Day 29 – Partial
Infected by Rowan’s laughter Anathya lets out something that sounds suspiciously like a giggle. ”Maybe, had I not watched you flying in battle like an angel, or watched Julian transform or been cuddled by a wyvern in front of a fire, it would sound a bit mad, but given what “normal” has become, it sounds like a perfectly reasonable question to me. Then again, to the average person outside the Worldwound, just about anything that comes out of our mouths probably sounds insane.” she quips with a wink.

Considering the question, she runs through the subjects in her mind.

Builder says a +1 ghost touch alchemical silver spiked chain is 4168 GP, 3 SP, and 3 CP to craft - which is within the extra budget there. o wo/ So no problems. Interesting choice, by the way, though personally I'd have recommended simply keeping a use or two of Ghostbane Dirge memorized.

At Rowan's commentary, Meiyun blushed slightly but rapidly shook her head. "The Forgefather blessed me, but I'm nothing so grand." she said - although her tone made it clear that she appreciated the thought there. "I'm just a little better at making things than most, and it's not the one who makes things that matters - it's what you do with them." And that was an area far outside her talents. She was a creator, not a user.

As for maintaining the city... the forces were managing to tend to the land within the city and work to start growing food there, helped along by the fact that some people had been living here despite that. Unfortunately, going too far outside of Drezen was going to be complicated at best - the unholy energies of the Worldwound seeped outward and, even pushed back as they were by the Sword of Valor, they had a tendency to corrupt things. It was unlikely that Drezen would ever be entirely free of the need for regular caravans of supplies - not until the Worldwound was closed, anyway.

Killing demons wasn't so hard once you got down to it... but dealing with the way they perverted nature itself with their presence was more of a challenge.

Water, at least, wasn't a problem - the city already had wells, and those remained pure enough for use (although you occasionally saw somebody blessing the wells and their contents anyway, just to be sure). Of course, for added help, some regions had installed a Decanter of Endless Water that could probably produce as much water as the city needed if set up in appropriate places. Creating one or two of those would be a bit costly, but they could certainly be donated to help the reconstruction efforts and would be a welcome source of aid.

Oh Meiyun, you blush so easily. Merciless teasing begins #justkidding #whatsthehammerfor

I never tried using my dragon speech tool until now. Bear with me. Julian is adding the brackets for me.

Her smile at Anathya's comment was truly radiant, Rowan was very glad to see the Inquisitor was back on her feet. Something the paladin had worried about shortly after the conclusion of their titanic struggle. "True, we will have many unbelievable stories to tell in later years." She chuckled. "At least we will know the truth." She returned Anathya's wink, still smiling as she lounged with a tome in hand.

The morning passed quickly with Anathya and Meiyun's help Rowan was fairly certain that not much could be done to purify the land. Except to continue to struggle against the corruption and, over great lengths of time, weed out the corruption the hard way. At the point she realized her limitations she leaned back in her chair, resting her head on the well cushioned head rest and set the tome on her face. She muttered from beneath the tome, slightly frustrated. "I hate demons..."

She stays leaned back only for a few more moments before leaning forward. Catching the tome as it slides off her face and leaves the tip of her nose dusty. "Druids." Her statement is just that. "I need to get to work on the Decanter of Endless Water you mentioned Anathya and some of those Rings of Sustenance my sword sisters used. The Decanter can give us an untainted supply and the rings will allow us to work more quickly for Drezen." She was disappointed in not being able to build the Lyre, but that would drastically undermine the Labor Union she had sponsored. A double edged sword but one she would eventually fall upon.

She rises from the comfortable chair, stripping back down to her crafting gear once more as she nods to Anathya. "Thank you for the help, looks like my time in the forge room is not over yet. If you need anything feel free to seek us out at anytime."

DM Rednal: How long between Meiyun amd myself will it take to make the 3 rings and the Decanter? Do you need crafting checks as well?

Before going down to the forge room she sends word to Julian, using one of her followers, to begin building a public bathhouse, however it needed to be near a waterway. She also would urge him into looking into damming the river ways if possible.

With that message sent she heads to the forge room, tools still down there and waiting for her. As she arrives she gives Meiyun a smile, she wanted to tease her friend some after yesterdays successful blushing attempt. But she focused on being professional instead, besides they had much work to do.

With a warm smile Anathya nods. "I definitely will. I'll see you later."

She spends much of the day working with her small group, continuing their training.

The Inquisitor also takes the time to seek out the Paladin of her order that provided her with a bit of guidance from time to time. As stern as he was she enjoyed their talks and his advice.

Meiyun can craft each of the Rings in one day. The Decanter she can do in two days. Just be sure to give me the actual numbers for what you want to spend/donate. o wo/ Makes it easy to count everything up.

Soltengrebbe's shifting was what woke him, before the blood tinged light that passed as a sunrise in the wound. He rose and patted the big beast that had been his bed for the night. Marveling still that such a creature was on their side, even so far as considering it a friend. Though that wasn't what was bothering Julian, it wasn't the tireless compassion of his companions or the great works that had done to bring some sort of stability and civilization to the broken ruins of Drezen.

No... it was the cell they had found, the same one he found himself standing in everyday. He knew every ridge, studied every line and with each passing day his frustration grew. He felt caged, despite their great works, unable to go out and find the one he sought. To repay her for saving him.

It was in that cell that his frustration abated, the calm feeling sweeping it away until the next morning until he repeated the same ritual. Lest he choose a direction and fly into the wound to blindly search. But he wouldn't throw away all they had done, especially since Einherjar kept him out of trouble as well. Counselling him on what he should do with the day, keeping him focused once he stepped out of this room with a single thought on his mind.

<:I Will Find You.:>

When the orders came down from Rowan he did just as she requested, looked into the creation of a public bath. Choosing to build it up against the hospital.

Will build Bath x4 - Costs 12 Goods, 4 Influence, 8 Labor (Worth 520 gp)

Taking the advice of some of the budding labor union he works on getting a separate bath houses built. Allowing 16 men and woman to bath simultaneously and with their own sex. It was another step in the right direction, especially with Rowan and Meiyun making the Decanter of Endless Water. Lessening the chance for disease was paramount.

Edited

Seeing as he still had a windfall he decided to visit Meiyun and have a second Decanter of Endless Water made. Something that could be providedfor the good o the community. "I hate to add this burden to you Meiyun, but I hope you can fit it into your schedule..." He was rather unnerved by the rather un-paladin like dress of Rowan. Who was in the forge room with Meiyun. It would be a mental image he'd find hard to repress later...

Over the next week and a half, the sound of hammering was near-constant under the Citadel as Rowan and Meiyun worked the forge, helped along a little by others who came down to lend what aid they could, even if it was just some cool drinks and a bite to eat. Finally, the items were finished - a couple of rings that would help chosen figures work longer and harder, and a pair of decanters to help produce water that would flow as much as necessary to the places that needed it. (Hygiene was important, after all... and ready access to water really did help to make the city safer and more secure.)

All in all, the three of you had done rather well, and you could see the changes in Drezen as people continued to work to bulk up its defenses and prepare it as the bastion of light it had always been intended to be. As you surveyed the work, however, the first sign of change you noticed was people falling silent and looking behind you. Turning, you could see the fortress - and in particular, the hall where the Sword of Valor was hung - shining with a golden light.

Drezen has been restored! It has lost the [Ruined] trait, returning its purchase limit, economy, and spellcasting level to their proper numbers.

Handing off the Decanter had hit him hard, but fresh water was a necessity and without it his Grotto held little purpose. The change in the city though, the vibrant growth and life that started to infuse it made him feel much more accomplished. The buildings they had started were a ways from completion but he was confident they would bring about great changed for Drezen and the 'wound.

The shining Sword of Valor and the golden light that emanated from it would attract all sorts of ilk eventually but for now it was a shining example of sacrifice.

Anathya smiles at the sight of the golden light radiating from where the Sword of Valor was housed. The fortress of Drezen had been restored, and the sightof it filled her with joy.

Though her true path would always lie in hunting and slaying the creatures of evil and chaos, it was incredibly uplifting to see and be reminded of what it was she was fighting to achieve and protect.

After a few moments, the golden light pulsed a few times, dimming somewhat and then brightening again as you watched.

Rowan was beyond elated when she saw how far the city had come, she was standing with Soltengrebbe and Meiyun when the light began. She gave a shout of joy at the sight, feeling in her heart they had done well. Though when it dimmed slightly she was somewhat shocked as too why. Looking for threats, as it felt familiarly like when Soltengrebbe had appeared. Suddenly and with little warning.

Julian watched the light flicker and believed it was a sign not to dilly dally any longer. He returned to his workshop, looking at the items they had left over and fidgeting with the ring of sustenance that Meiyun had given him. He had thanked her by putting it on then and there to admire it before the crafter herself. "That woman is really good with her hands... We are lucky to have her."

He gathered up some of the extra magical items they had, intending to trade or sell them if there was anything useful in the city to buy at the time. They needed to get back to Crusading, lest his edge get any duller or his restlessness lead him to do something he might regret.

<:You've done well Redeem, remain focused.:>

Julian begins searching all the new stalls and stores that were now emerging out of the renewed city. He was pleasant and greeted all those he passed as needed. He wanted the people to be aware of him and friendly to his budding business. His tonics and alchemical goods would be of use in such a broken city, at least he hoped.

What items are available to buy Rednal?

As Julian moved back towards his workshop under the citadel, the light pulsed again - and as he opened the doors to actually get inside, he found a familiar figure sitting on the steps below the Sword of Valor, one hand propping up her chin and an immensely bored expression on her face. The golden light died down as she noticed him, and Kariel raised the eyebrow over her only visible eye. Moments later, her metallic left wing rose and jabbed towards the doors a few times. "Julian, would you be so kind as to go get Rowan and Anathya? I have a few messages for the three of you, and They're keeping me on a fairly busy schedule right now."

It really depended on the item in question - some actively warned people, while others simply did their thing. That said, there were no known reports of the Sword of Valor emitting golden light - white, yes, but not golden. Certainly, it hadn't been able to give off any warnings when Drezen had fallen all those years ago.

(And as Julian had already found out, the light hadn't been coming from the Sword of Valor in the first place, but rather its chamber...)

Julian was only slightly surprised at Kariel's sudden appearance and he bowed deeply in respect before accepting her request. "Good to see you, Kariel, I shall do as you ask."

He goes about then, looking for his companions where he last saw them. Failing that he looks for where they most likely are. Rowan was most likely schmoozing everyone into joining the faith or was at the forge with Meiyun. Anathya though was probably with her rangers or with Rowan, they were oddly inseparable lately.

Must be a cohabitation thing.

<:Redeemed...:>

Right, find them and get back to Kariel.

I can do that.

Her time with her other companions and fellow officers was cut short when she spotted Julian stalking his way into the room. Without further word she excused herself politely and followed him back to where the Sword of Valor now resided. Seeing Kariel she kneels before the angel, humble yet again to be visited by one of the holy host. "Welcome back Kariel. How can we assist you? That is if you don't have some specific task for me to perform." She was genuinely interested in assisting the heavens as best she could.

<:Your talking to yourself has been most odd lately.:> Einherjar vibrated as it it jabbed at Julian's musing's.

He smiled at Einherjar's self amusement. "Hush you, too much on my mind to internalize. To much to control and repress... Oh. There's that." He hesitated the slightest of moments, unsure if he should do it or not.

"She told me to gather them and I will... Now let me focus." Julian closed his eyes and focused on what Anathya looked like, the definition of her figure and the way it brought an entire room to pause at her entrance. Angelic bronze skin, golden eyes and that confident stride. Perfection. Another reason why he hated Aasimar's, so perfect it was sickening to resist. He was able to resist Rowan for their combined past but Anathya was someone he hadn't thought of but if locating her was easier then he'd do it this once.

When he opened his eyes next they glowed a dull red, his lips parted in a devious smile as his wings snapped open. In a single graceful motion he shot skyward. To hunt.

Take ten + 15 perception = 25 to hunt down Anathya

For expediency or if Anathya decides to post ahead of me. haha. since they work nights most ofthe time.

Julian flew low over the closer of the plaza's his black wings easily catching and guiding him through the gusting and shearing winds within Drezen's loose streets and when he finally found Anathya he landed behind her softly. Slowly bringing his wings around her as though he were going to smother her before realizing exactly what he was doing and instead quickly fluttered them before tucking them behind his back again. He was trying to remain focused as he spoke, his red tinged eyes staring straight into that exotic bronze toned face. "I want...' Despite his vast intelligence his hunting instinct was far more brutish and blundered its way into his speech. "... you, to follow me." To which his reason recovered, less than gracefully as his voice cracked.

He clears his throat, his wings fluttering slightly as he started from where he should have. The beginning. "The light before wasn't the banner, but an ally come to see us and they have a tight schedule so we need to move quickly." Now that he was calmed down he noticed several weapons drawn on him, he chuckled as he realized why Einherjar was so amused at this point. "Apologies for startling you all, I need to borrow Anathya for an unknown amount of time. Next time I will announce my presence more preemptively."

Kariel was still waiting by the time Julian managed to return with Anathya. "Normally, I'd tell you to stand, Rowan... but actually, stay there." the angel said, getting up. Her wings folded against her back, the metallic one covering the feathered one like some strange, protective cage. "The three of you have done well so far, and my Lady is pleased with your efforts. It is good that Drezen stands once more, but the Worldwound will not be shut if you do nothing but wait and defend. Southwest of here is a place known as the Molten Scar. Anathya will remember it when she sees it - go there, and your path will become clear." she paused for a moment... and then her eyes flicked over to Julian. Whatever she saw, though, she didn't comment on it.

"Yet for all that has happened, it is difficult to strike without a sword." she straightened a little more, and turned to the group's Paladin. "Rowan. Iomedae is pleased with your service - together with your companions, you have given hope to those in need, redeemed the fallen back to the light, and raised the beacon of hope for all the land to see. The news of what you have done here has already spread through the Inner Sea, and the recovery of the Sword of Valor has helped many find the courage they needed to rally to Queen Galfrey. Even now they march to join her, with all they can carry to aid her cause."

"They will not be enough."

"As far as this world is concerned, the demons are endless. For every one that falls, another will take its place. Victory cannot be achieved no matter how many of their armies are destroyed, and Iomedae requires a weapon with which to strike at the heart of the Worldwound, closing it once and for all. She asks you, Rowan, to become that weapon. No longer will you be a simple Paladin, fighting in her name. You will be her embodiment of truth, the living avatar of her power on this world. She asks you to become the highest of your order, to fight until the day you die against the tides of darkness. She asks you, Rowan, to become her Justicar. Do you accept this charge?" Before the Paladin could respond, Kariel raised one hand. "Before you answer, I must make this clear: This is not a demand, and Iomedae will not think less of you if you decline. This is not something to be forced on anyone, no matter how dire the need. Should you accept, however, you will fight for her until you die. When the Worldwound is shut, she will send you to the next fight - and the next, and the one after that. It will only end the day you finally fall and Pharasma sends your soul to Heaven. There is no true peace for a Justicar - many times, you will not even see the good that you have done, for you will already be on your way. It is not a gentle path, but she would not have asked if she didn't believe you were the right one for the job... and when you finally fall, Iomedae herself will escort your soul, and no power in the universe will stand in her way. Knowing this, what is your answer?"

At the mention of never ending warfare, and how it would mean she'd be taken away from Sarkoris, she looked up at Kariel. Was this a test of her faith? Even though she could decline, she felt in her heart to do so would be folly and a slap in the face of every soldier and paladin to have died for the cause willingly. "Yes, I accept lady Kariel." Knowing this meant the loss of her freedom she could hand over the future of her homeland to steadier hands then hers. She looked from Kariel to her allies then, she was both happy and sad for the future ahead.

For one door now was closed forever and a new one had opened, one she would walk for the rest of her days.

Kariel's look unsettled him greatly, more so then usual, though he thought he understood why. What she had said gave him a momentary hope for the future. That was up until she asked Rowan to become little more then a slave soldier in the name of Iomedae. He was speechless at this, having never heard of such as a Justicar, aside from those appointed by kingdoms to be traveling judges.

When Rowan looked at him, he felt like her eyes were searching for support, and he wouldn't let her down. "Wait." Though he wasn't willing to watch anyone surrender their freedom easily, Desna would be displeased if had, but his companions were a cut above the rest to him. He stepped forward his voice strong despite the shaking in his knees while under Kariel's gaze, to which he held onto Einherjar's hilt as a means to bolster his courage. Until now he had been comfortable in her presence and had only just realized, this time he wanted to run in absolute terror of her. "Forgive me but my belief's make it hard to say nothing. Even if it were Anathya I'd speak and expect them to do the same for me." He spoke as a Desnan then, his ring of the North Star present as he spoke, though his knees were much more visibly shaking at this point. "You ask her to surrender her freedom and become an unremitting Justicar. Forgive me, but aside from Iomedae's deepest thanks, what else does she gain Lady Kariel?"

Kariel looked at Julian - but rather than seeming upset at the delay, despite the timetable she claimed to be on, she simply smiled. "Your concern for your friends is a credit to you." she said. "Iomedae asks her to fight, not to become a merciless monster. She offers Rowan the power to uphold her beliefs - not simply to slay her foes, but to protect those who need it. As I said, it is not required of her - forced goodness is not good at all. We would not have her blindly accept such an offer, but rather choose to do so of her own free will. And rest assured that Iomedae has no intention of dictating her every move and choice - if she didn't trust Rowan's judgment, this offer would never have been made."

Anathya is utterly speechless first at realizing the is in the presence of a powerful angel, but even more so as she realizes the offer being made to Rowan, both in terms of the sacrifice and what was being granted. She would function as the Hand of Iomedae, with all the authority and power one would expect but most likely her life would never again completely be her own.

Her eyes fall on the ascendant paladin, radiant in her humility. She understood the choice, she had tried to throw herself into the role of the deliverer of vengeance and somehow almost lost her way. But if anyone had the strength of character to uphold the ideals of their god she fully believed Rowan was the one.

Rowan didn't know whether to thank him or scold him, when she turns away from Kariel to look at him his shaking knees changed her mind completely. She stood then, turning to place a hand on his cheek and guiding his eyes to her own. "Calm yourself." She cupped his cheek then. "She has clearly said I could refuse, but you and I both know this isn't something I could turn away." Her eyes glistened with tears withheld, the choice for her was made quickly but not easily or without its own hurt. "Though my acceptance of this means my original ideal's change, it also means that I leave the future of Sarkoris in much steadier hands." She smiles sadly, looking between Anathaya and Julian before looking back at Julian then. "By accepting this I can reduce the loss of life in the times to come, that is why I must do so. Even if what I do goes unnoticed. Even if it mean everything as it is now, changes. I must do this."

With that she pulls her hand away, looking at her friends as she finished speaking. "Do you trust me Julian?"

At the glistening yet unshed tears she sees in Rowan's eyes, the sad smile that said as much as the strong confident voice, Anathya almost speaks up. Holding her tongue, she leaves the moment to Rowan and Julian, not interrupting as Iomedae's chosen explains why she could truly only make one choice while remaining herself. She would express her thoughts later.

Wresting her gaze away she turns her head to look at Kariel, the angel resplendent in her power despite her apparent nonchalance.

Anathya:
This is the first time you've actually met the angel in question, although both Julian and Rowan seem familiar with Kariel. Yet for all the otherworldliness involved here, it may be the imperfect bits that draw your eye the most. There are three of them - the eyepatch covering her right eye, the wooden, almost golem-like right arm, and the metallic left wing. She seems used to the disfigurements and their replacements, though, and smiled slightly in your direction as she noticed you looking. She clearly had no intention of interrupting Julian and Rowan's conversation or trying to pressure anyone into a quick decision.

Yet for all that, there was one other thing that might have been a more relevant detail. It was one thing to hear that the celestial realms were on your side and supporting your efforts - it was another thing entirely to have a messenger actually show up to help.

Laptop cratered on me, and then paizo was down. Fun day not had. XD

Julian nodded to Kariel, though he wasn't pleased still by this deal. Though his predisposed dislike of it melted when Rowan moved his eyes to hers. Under that gaze he couldn't do anything but give out, with a heavy sigh he responded. "That isn't fair. You know I trust you, but you are too easy. All you damn holy warriors are, like you owe the world something. Except when your gone the world moves on the moment after." He abandons his position then looking towards the ground for a moment. "I have no small amount of dislike for Iomedae, or this god forsaken war either. It's taken a lot from me and I was tired of seeing more sacrificed for little gain." He looks back to Rowan then, a small smile on his face as he slugged her in the shoulder. "Okay. If I survive this, then sure, I'll take care of Sarkoris. I also won't allow your role to be forgotten either. And when you've killed all of Iomedae's foes for her and are finally able to lay down the sword, you will have a place to retire."

He steps back then adding. "Excuse my interruption."

Einherjar vibrated on his side. <:Your thinking of a big ugly statue aren't you?:>

Julian's smile remained. <:Yes, not ugly though. But big. No one will forget what she gave for them, I won't allow it. That is, if I live that long.:>

Like a sight in his head Einherjar responded. <:Your too predictable and if you abandon that reckless streak you might outlive them all.:>

"Very well." the angel said, nodding slightly. With a slight creaking of wood, she raised her hand and gestured to the Sword of Valor above. The artifact pulsed slightly, then sent down a ray of light that enveloped Rowan. Within the ray, Rowan could feel all of the powers and defenses of her Paladin training melting away, leaving her mind fully exposed.

"Each of these spells is important. They are not simply powers that are used to affect the world. Remember them." the angel said calmly. She gestured slightly, and abruptly all three of you were filled with a small surge of power as she Blessed the chamber. "A Justicar is not an aloof entity. This spell aids when striking your foes - and in standing up to the terrors of the infernal realms. You are no longer merely the recipient of divine blessings - you are the blessing. Remember that inspiring others to righteousness can be even more important than striking down your foes, and that the innocent should always welcome your presence."

She gestured again, and this time the air shimmered in a dome for a moment. "The Zone of Truth prevents lies from being spoken. Iomedae is not so demanding that she'll expect you to silence others... but you yourself must adhere to the truth from this point onwards. Even when this spell ends, let no lie cross your lips so that when you speak, all will know what the truth is. Your sword is not your only weapon - your reputation, in many cases, will do even more to aid the cause of light. That is also why disguises - magical and mundane - are forbidden to a Justicar. The light of truth is not meant to be hidden."

She gestured again, and a Prayer settled over the three of you. "People pray for help from the gods when they cannot handle things themselves. Yet a prayer is not only about defeating foes or enduring trials - and while you will often be in combat, do not forget that bringing peace, and help to those whose lives are mundane, is your true purpose. There are many ways to help others, and while your primary purpose is that of a sword, it is by no means your only purpose."

She gestured a fourth time, and a fourth spell settled onto Rowan. "When you have settled into your power, the ability to Discern Lies will be yours. As Iomedae's embodiment of Truth, you must learn to seek out falsehood. Do not let deceivers tempt you with honeyed words, but instead recognize lies for what they are and remain virtuous."

As she gestured a fifth time, a mark appeared on Rowan's hand. "As you continue to grow, the ability to set a Mark of Justice on others will also be given to you. As a Justicar, it is up to you to decide how to use this power... but remember that it is meant only for those who truly deserve it. With great power comes great temptation - do not allow your heart to be swayed by the powers given to you."

She gestured again, and abruptly Rowan was surrounded by a massive aura, as if she was larger than she really was. "The Righteous Might spell allows you to be bigger than you really are - and even when you're at your usual size, your mere presence can affect the world around you. You are more than blood and blade, and must remember to act accordingly."

Finally, instead of gesturing, she simply spoke a Holy Word in Celestial - and the power washed over the three of you without harm. "That power harms the evil and banishes those who do not belong here - but it is discerning, and it targets only those who are not righteous. You, too, must be discerning with your power - your strength is not meant to harm the innocent, but to protect them and send the wicked away. No matter what battle you may fight, do not mistake good for evil, or evil for good. You do not need to find the answer to such mysteries - you are the answer. When help is needed, be the help."

She paused for a few more moments, allowing the powers to linger in the air.

"These seven spells are the essence of a Justicar. Remember what they are and what they mean." She raised her staff, then slammed it into the ground. As she did, the light of the Sword of Valor spread to fill the whole room with peaceful white light. "I am Kariel, Angel of the Dawn. In the name of my Lady, and in the name of Inheritor, I judge you worthy and name you Justicar of Iomedae." She strode forward, and her staff shifted into a longsword that she set on Rowan's left shoulder, then her right. The staff morphed back to its usual form as she pulled it away. "Rise, Lady Rowan, and know that the heavens are with you." The Sword of Valor flashed one last time, then returned to its usual state - and as the light faded, so did every spell laid on Rowan. A bird's cry could be heard a moment later, and a falcon soared out of the Sword of Valor, materializing into a corporeal form and landing on Rowan's shoulder. "Phanuel here will be your advisor. While I suspect he will stay away from combat, and may not always be in sight, you need but call and he will be there for you. Should you be uncertain of your path, ask and he will advise. Remember that he is not here to direct or command you - only to help you choose your own path."

Kariel smiled slightly... then looked to Julian and Anathya. "I'm afraid I don't have anything quite so dramatic for the two of you." she said, striding over. "Nevertheless... Anathya, Ragathiel is pleased with your efforts and what you have learned in your time here. He calls you not to be a Justicar of his own, but to be a hunter of the dark. If Rowan is a sword, then you are a bow, with the power to hunt all evil that comes within range." She pushed up on her toes and kissed Anathya's forehead. "You, too, are necessary for what must be done. Watch over your friends, and see what others may not." she turned to Julian, then kissed his forehead as well. "Julian. Desna knows of the darkness with you, and the things that you dream of. It is not easy to resist the darkness, but soon you will understand that it truly can be done. She asks you to pay attention and remember this, lest Corruption start to take you down a path you cannot return from." she gazed into his eyes for just a moment, then strode back to where she'd first been.

"The fight ahead will be long and difficult - but it's worth fighting. Never forget that you are not alone." With that, she curtsied slightly... and in a flash of golden light, the angel was gone.

You've all leveled up! As always, please post your summaries in the Discussion Thread for acceptance prior to updating your aliases. Rowan, you may retrain your first nine levels at this time if you'd like to do so (say, if you wanted to focus on divine magic instead of splitting arcane/divine), and may take levels in Justicar from 10th onwards. Make sure you meet the pre-requisites. XD And as a reminder, Justicar does take up both sides of your gestalt.
