It was written in a slightly confusing way, given where they put the number. You've FULLY explored the bottom area, and I put you where you were on the map. If you hadn't unlocked the door yet, the bottom area would've been blacked out. ^^

Also, the bit with the languages is gonna get funny pretty soon... *Amused look* Don't think I can progress further until you decide where to go, though! For reference, you've fairly thoroughly explored the two floors above you, and haven't gone any higher in the shaft than that.

Phai will stand by her suggestion of checking on the dog people again...now that she can speak to them. We did dispatch the mimic quite quickly after sending her for reinforcements, so unless there's another of those insects that abducted her UPWARDS in the shaft, we should probably have seen her if she went up for whatever reason. If the dogpeople figured out how to open doors and kidnapped her, she could be in our starting level though :P Plus, if the dogs are just confused about their situation, they may want to escape as well, and accompany us...

  • Ok. If we've already fully explored this floor, then I'm with Phai that we head up to the first floor we were on, offer the dog people a chance to escape with us, then head to the next unexplored level.

I think the book refers to the room with the vanishing floor. Which is where we encountered the "young" insect things.

Ooran giggles at the passage that Phai reads from the book. "Maybe the insect thing is the tauslek. Maybe my memories of Sed are in its head. Like, literally. That mentions a cranial gland." He says, pointing at the book.

When given the ring and the anti-toxin he gladly puts on the ring and holds his hand up to admire it.

  • You know what? I think you're totally right. I forgot that we found the smaller insects back there next to the gross feeding room full of bodies since that was 2 weeks ago.

The one with the vanishing floor is the Test Bay in question, yes. XD That's not meant to be a mystery.

Climbing up to the next floor was easy enough once you finally decided to leave this area - however, the floor above you was empty now. The dog-men appeared to have left this area at some point while you were looking around the area - though there were also a few more bloodstains on the walls and floor than before.

"So quite possibly they are responsible for Andretta's disappearance. Let's proceed further up!", Phai states as she re-enters the shaft and prepares to give Vincent a hand(literally) with climbing.

I expected as much about the Test Bay, as you specifically called out the insect as a "much larger" variant of the ones we fought there when it first attacked us.

  • "Hopefully they're not under the control of Lomrick and we can convince them to leave peacefully with us." When Vincent finally managed to get to the next unexplored floor, he readied his shield and looked around.

    Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

The distance to the highest level was considerably shorter than that between the first and second - and as you hauled your way out of the shaft and into a zone with more branching hallways, a gong-like reverberation ran through the corridors, and an alien language could briefly be heard from everywhere.

    Ultari:
<"Warning! Facility power compromised. Auxiliary power diverted to atmospheric shielding. Drain will soon exceed capacity. Repairs required or system failure imminent.">

Shortly after the sounds could be heard, a roiling mass of clouds charged with electrical energy rose out of the floor, with something that resembled a face within its depths.

    Does anyone recognize it?: 2d20 ⇒ (11, 11) = 22

It's recognizable to both Phai and Ooran (the only ones trained in recognizing such things) as a comozant wyrd — a rare and unusual air elemental of blue-green plasma and static electricity. A shroud of (harmless) flames appeared around the upper halves of your bodies as the creature gestured, and abruptly, you could feel a powerful desire through it - the wyrd really wanted to talk with you.

    HP: 37/40 | AC: 20 | Fort: +8, Ref: +8, Will: +8 | Hero Points: 3/3 | 25 feet speed | Perception: +6 Active Effects: none

"That speech, it was some kind of warning, about repairs and a system that would fail. Most of it sounded very technical, but it seemed urgent!", Phai translates for the others.

Then the Comozant Wyrd appears and seemingly wants to talk, Phai will first attempt the languages she knows, and if that fails, gestures to transmit basic meaning, basically trying to get what amounts to "What's up?" across to it.
Alternatively, would my character have ANY idea how it wants to talk/communicate?

    Ioun Wyrd HP: 41/41 | AC: 17 / T: 15 / FF: 14 | Fort: +5, Ref: +4, Will: +7; Immune: Construct Traits | CMB: +6, CMD: 14 | Init: +2, Perception: +2

Intrigued by the creature made of plasma, Axis came out of hiding. As it floated before the comozant, most of Axis's stones contracted, leaving only the blue and green gems spinning quickly around.

Interesting in the extreme. I've never seen such a creature before, and unlike the monsters we've met thus far, this being seems as voiceless as I am. Perhaps it too yearns to speak, but the limits of it's anatomy impede it?

Axis mimicked the gesture that the comozant had made, then drew in its blue and green stones, leaving orange, red and yellow crystals swirling about in a vortex around its upper half.

  • "Do you understand him, Axis? What does he want?" the auttaine appeared puzzled by the exchange.

The Wyrd flashed a few times as Axis rose up, and there was a faint empathic sense of pleasure. It was hard to notice, though, beneath the overall sense of urgency that continued to flow out. The Wyrd's body twisted slightly, and images formed in it - first showing a circular gate-like structure, then all of you (including tiny versions of Axis and BR-N3R) and the Wyrd passing through it.

Even as the images flashed, the Ultari message repeated itself.

Phai nods, then attempts to gesture, using Ooran, herself, and Vincent as examples, that another woman of a similar physical shape as Vincent is missing.
"We are here to pass through the gate! We want to flee from here. But a friend of ours is missing- we need to find her first!"
Phai will try and send an feeling of empathy, of being afraid of loss, and of friendship towards the Wyrd.

Hey, it's Christmas. Our Companion Cube even had a name...we NEED to get her out of here...plus, she thought me the language, without her, I wouldn't even know we're in a hurry ;)

Ooran blinks as the wyrd appears and "speaks" to them. "Whoa, that is so cool. How do you do that? Can you teach us?" Then it shows them the images and Ooran's eyes go wide. "Yeah, we need to get out of here, but we're looking for someone who needs to come with us. You must have sensed her. She should be around here somewhere."
Ooran starts to wander south to look down the corridors.

    Jack O'Neil wrote:

A sense of approval came out through the flames as Phai mentioned going through the gate - followed by a hammering, almost overwhelming sense to STOP, filled with urgency, as Ooran started heading south.

First, the Wyrd formed a picture of a vague female shape, and the emotions that came out were negative.

The images shifted completely a moment later... to show a rock. A few lines came out of the side of the rock a moment later, just before it smashed into a building. Something on the inside of the building - there was only so much detail the creature could manage - blinked out. Some kind of dome appeared around the building a moment later, but first the object that had disappeared reappeared and started blinking, then the dome started blinking as well.

When it stopped blinking, the entire image was briefly replaced by a skull.

The main image reappeared a moment later, showing the three of you walking to the blinking object and interacting with it somehow while the Wyrd did... something... and both the object and the dome stopped blinking. Only then did the image go back to all of you moving through the gate.

    HP: 37/40 | AC: 20 | Fort: +8, Ref: +8, Will: +8 | Hero Points: 3/3 | 25 feet speed | Perception: +6 Active Effects: none

Since the creature tries to communicate using emotions, Phai will attempt the same, producing a sense of longing, demand, thinking about Andretta.

Regardless of the urgency she felt in finding the woman, she will test which direction the Wyrd wants them to go."We were held here...we cannot understand the plan you showed us since we have no idea where we are. We will need directions."

  • "An impact coming? Then we must hurry. Please, which way to the woman, and which way to the gate?"

The Wyrd's response was a simple arrow image, pointing to the northwest. Moments later, more feelings came through its odd means of communication, but together you were able to piece it together - while you worked on repairing the indicated device, it would be in the northeast chamber, supplementing the shields with its own biological power. This was likely the only way to fix it without killing everyone inside the building, and it shot around to the northeast a moment later as the fires died out.

Phai will move up northwest, standing in a way to keep watch over the largest possible area, checking her shield and glaive, then prepping her bow towards the west:"Ready when you are, guys"

A look of concentration passes over Ooran's face. "I don't think I'll have any trouble fixing a generator. But it is kinda hard to focus. Keep me on task and help me notice what I might miss."

"Now, let's go take a look at this damage." And he trots off after Vincent.

BR-N3R perked up excitedly as you moved into the indicated room.

This large chamber includes four, dominating columns of unusual green metal. Each one throbs with a slow, rhythmic pulse shedding a faint green light with the eerie sound of a heartbeat. A thin layer of orange dust, marked by animal-like paw prints, coats the floor. To the northwest, a large breach has taken down part of the external wall, plainly revealing an alien landscape of barren rubble and debris strewn by the impact crater of a dark blue meteorite. A shimmering translucent field of energy has cordoned off the broken wall from the outside environment, occasionally flickering with an intermittent drop in power. Several spherical objects litter the ground before the meteorite, both inside and beyond the energy field. Composed of strands of unusual metal, they appear hollow and torn open from within. A nauseating tang emanates from them, filling the air inside the room. The only other exit lies east, where the sliding door has been battered down.

As you enter, Ooran and Phai assaulted by sharp headaches and a mild amount of dizziness - the air seems bad here, and it's not the kind of thing you can simply power through. BR-N3R simply looked at things, then spoke up. "It's fixable, but we'll need some of the spare parts from the southern storage room." the robot announced.

Ooran and Phai are Shaken as long as they remain in the room. Vincent, who only uses air to talk, is not affected by this.

It doesn't look like we have much time." As he headed towards the storage room that BR-N3R directed him towards, Vincent asked, "Does anyone know anything about meteorites? Any idea what that blue material it's made of could be? and those little spherical metal objects... If anything, they look sort of like metal eggs, and I'm a bit worried about what those could have contained if that's the case."

Do you think we can take some of those "eggs" with us to study? What do you think came out of them?" The rapid fire questions don't seem to stop, nor does Ooran wait for an answer before asking the next question.

"Probably nothing good." BR-N3R said, leading you down the southern corridor. As you moved past the first alcove, however, a roar came from the west and what looked like a hairless blue lion crouched down and prepared to dart out.

The creature smoothly dodged all blows but Vincent's, which bit in deep and almost sent the strange creature into the ground. Snarling, it lashed out again, this time adding whipping tendrils to the mix.

    Bite (Vincent): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
    Tentacle (Vincent): 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12
    Tentacle (Vincent): 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (6) - 3 = 3

The bite was the only one that actually came close to hitting, and even so, Vincent was able to fend it off with his metallic parts - and together, the three of you were able to finish off the creature with a few well-timed jabs.

It only had 2 HP left. XD No need to spend a day or two waiting for rolls on that. XD

BR-N3R carefully examined the creature once it was no longer a threat, seeming curious. "This doesn't belong here." the robot announced, sounding very confident in the assertion. "I'm not sure how it got in, but it doesn't belong. The supplies room is at the end of the corridor here, to the left." The robot pointed to the southeast.

Ooran follows along as well. "Maybe it hatched and there are bunches of them. We could catch one and tame it. We'd have a pet!"

"We have an atmosphere shield - it's why you're not dead. That's it, though." BR-N3R observed as you moved to the storage room.

The door to this chamber lies broken and physically peeled away from the track where it once slid into the wall. Tendrils of green plant-like material are still attached where it hangs crookedly to the side. Beyond the door, metal shelving units fill the room, each containing various tools and supplies, some quite pedestrian, and others so exotic as to defy explanation. As you step into the chamber, loud growls sound from either side, and two more of the blue creatures appear - these ones looking larger and more fearsome than the one you just slew.

With angry snarls, both of them darted forward, one each lunging at Ooran and Vincent.

Neither Ooran nor Vincent was quite able to land a blow on the creatures, though Vincent was close. Phai's second shot was successful, though, plunging deep into the creature a moment before it attempted to savage Ooran again.

Determined to land a blow, Vincent continued his assault. "Does anyone know what these beasts actually are?"

Phai's first shot hit, taking down that particular opponent. Ooran whirled around a moment later to face the other beast, and between his strikes and Vincent's single blow, you were able to take down the second beast as well.

Searching the supplies in the room wasn't so much difficult as... tedious, given how many strange things were in there, and it took about ten minutes of searching before BR-N3R finally announced that you had everything you were likely to need for repairing the broken part of the facility.

In addition to the various parts that their robot friend suggests, Ooran grabs any spare part that looks remotely useful. Filling his pack and carrying armloads until he can barely move.

"We are taking way too long with this. I fear for Andretta's life, if those Dogman got her. And worse yet, if these creatures already broke into this place, what's to stop them from damaging the generator again from the inside? Let us hope they are stupid and not tech-savvy!"
Phai will follow the others back towards the Generator.
Perception to check room for something else useful: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 maybe a detect magic from Vincent?. Also, if there is something heavy to carry that requires hands, Phai will use her shield arm, glaive arm, and bow arms, in that order to help carry it.

  • Yup, Vincent will sweep the room with a detect magic just to catch any magic stuff we may have not noticed.

Arms filled with supplies, Vincent led the way back to the generator to attempt repairs.

There's nothing else of value in the chamber - it's a place for storing spare parts, not a vault of treasure. BR-N3R, on the other hand, came to a stop as you approached the generator. "Uh... you know you're all going to die if you just start fixing that thing, right?" the robot asked.
