Raella enters the next chamber, and spying the door to the north, moves to it, and opens it. She informs the others that another hallway leads to doors to the left and right, both of them currently closed.
Pillette races through the webbing, barely making it out. Mortimer caves in a poor man's skull, then finds out the hard way that the Pillars are more than macabre decoration. Solrisa works her way out of the webbing as well, as does Ascaria, as does Tynan. Raella opens the way for others.
Pillette takes a position alongside Ascaria, unsure how to proceed. She readies an attack on any creepy-looking individual or critter, should any appear. And one does... to the west, through the corridor just north of the altar.

Upon seeing yet another new threat appear to the West, Mortimer's ire is inspired.
"NOT A BIT OF IT!" he roars.Still believing the room is filled with Earthy fragrance, he musters up his strength and once again purposefully and powerfully I hope attempts to plow his way through more Tar Hands to overrun the latest StupidHead.
Assuming he makes it past Tar Hands to the altar...
Mortimer tries to slide across the top of the altar to get to StupidHead in order to knock his block off.

As Mortimer comes into full view on his approach, the hooded figure unleashes a gout of flame, hoping to add to the giant's already scorched appearance. Sadly, he pinwheels backwards a bit, and the flames fan out uselessly.

Raella nods to Ascaria, moving through the doorway, and opening the door to the left. She calls out briefly, something about two more hoods, and something about snakes and stones.
Pillette aims true, but fails to strike the hooded figure. Mortimer gains an audience with his own magic wielder, but fails to find his way past him. Solrisa exchanges wand for sword, sensing further mercies lying ahead. Ascaria heals, and advances boldly into the chamber. Tynan comes to the door, uninvited. Raella heeds the gnome.
Pillette follows Raella, reloading her crossbow as she steps into the hallway behind the warrior woman.
Mort's mage backs up, and blasts him, very much like the dead man in the adjacent room. Mort, please make a Will Save DC 14, or be blinded and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds, then stunned for one more round.
To the north, yet even more colorful lights reflect in the hallway.

Ducking your head around the corner, you see yet another hooded figure standing just on the other side of the doorway. Behind him, an ominous masked individual is turning away to attend to something on one of the workbenches placed around the room. This appears to be an alchemical lab of some sort, with the sounds and smells to accompany it. The masked individual looks over his shoulder, waving to the doorway with a pale hand.
Raella is enveloped in a sphere of flame. It's quite magnificent, as well as radiating an intense heat, even from where you stand. And Raella is in the center of it.

Pillette catches a face full of light, overriding all functional senses. She drops her crossbow. Mortimer manages to avoid the same fate, ending the caster with his second blow.
You now know the sound of a breaking nose intimately, as it travels through your own bone to your inner ears.
Solrisa passes through. Ascaria does too, creating a brilliant burst of light in response to the recent color spews.
Both denizens of the north room seem to suffer for it, though the less ornate one clutches at his eyes, while the masked man seems to shake it off, mostly.

Watching Mortimer slay his foe, Tynan diverts his path to follow Ascaria, and moves to help the helpless.
Raella strains, her neck muscles bulging to overcome the near paralysis. She stands, ready to burn yet further for her intrusion. Pillette can only emulate Raella at the moment, as if she's waiting for her breath to return.
The hooded figure by the door remains by the door, his hands outstretched, as if desperate to touch something or someone in front of him. He finally decides, and flames erupt from his fingers, jetting fire into the already aglow hallway.
The masked figure steps back, and begins to draw circles in the air, with what appears to be a wand or stick of some sort...
The flaming orb enveloping Raella stands still, while Raella contorts reflexively to avoid being burnt, somehow.

Pillette continues to glitch. Mortimer moves through the hallway and to the north from a different route, opening the door, just as Solrisa announces the two of them to the occupants beyond the doorway, as she joins him. Ascaria heals Raella a bit more, then salves his new burn wounds by bringing the healing wand to bear again. Tynan relocates the disabled slip. Raella can't avoid the flames, but the sphere seems to dim for a moment, and her injuries seem light by comparison.
The blinded mage pulls a dagger, and waves it wildly at the heat through the doorway.
The masked individual lowers his arm, as a massive ape appears by his side. His hands keep moving, as he watches both doorways.
As you all eventually get a bead on the room, its features become more apparent. Two long, wooden tables dominate this chamber. They run along the length of the room, pushed up against opposite walls, and are covered with a variety of beakers, alchemical tools, and other devices. A few glass containers bubble with materials of a variety of colors, from a boiling green sludge to a fizzing, effervescent blue liquid.
Several bookshelves filled with tomes occupy one section of the wall. Beside the shelves stands an intact human skeleton. A few glistening organs, a heart, a set of lungs, and a liver writhe and pulse within the skeleton’s rib cage.
In the northeast corner of the chamber stands a large, black iron cauldron. A thick layer of wax seals it shut.

Pillette, unable to leverage her strength against the pain of the fire, decides to guard the rear, and readies to skewer any rats appearing in the central chamber.
The ape spatters Solrisa with furious spittle, and slams the woman impotently. Or not.

Raella opens her eyes, newly aware of just how filthy the floor is in this room. She clutches for her sword, and stands up, a piece of wet flesh clinging to the side of her face. She doesn't seem to notice, as she stares furiously at the masked... thing.
Pillette continues her vigil on shaky legs. Mortimer swings wildly, leaving the masked man wholly untouched. Solrisa dismisses the gorilla with the second slash of her blade. Ascaria suffers and suffuses his folk with healing. Tynan injures the masked man further, whispering vengeance. Raella regains herself.
Pillette continues to hold position, frustrated that she can still feel the heat of the sphere in the hallway.
The masked figure hisses, then pushes a hand in the direction of the gnome. Ascaria, Reflex Save DC 18, or suffer 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) = 8 damage.
He then reaches across Mortimer, and rams the rod in his hand into the cauldron. When the wax seal on its surface falls into the cauldron's contents, a cloud of gaseous fog consumes the room. Everyone, except Pillette, needs to make a Fortitude Save DC 18, or become Nauseated.

At this point, you have firmly secured the Mask. We are out of initiative, I think. The flaming orb dissipates, as does the fog, as does the party-wide nausea.
