For funsies, I believe Orcus would be rendered as either Ωρκως or Ορκως in the Greek alphabet.

Talathel Rhuiren |

That works for me!

GM Parrot |

So, how long's a day, for recharging spell slots? I found James Jacobs saying that a day is 24 hours. Does that mean the day runs in the background regardless of when you cast? If so, let's have days run from midnight to midnight, because midnight is a nice magical time of day?
I kinda remember just having to rest for 8 hrs to fully recharge magic in games like Baldur's Gate--we could do that, too, if that would be more fun.
Since we are in a place with a lot of dangers lurking, it matters.

Talathel Rhuiren |

As someone with a non-spellcasting PC, I'm loathe to weigh in on this.
What do the casters think?

Aurora Fallowarc |

Strictly RAW, prepared divine casters pick a particular time of day (or night) to pray/meditate for spells; they are expected to take their prayers at that time, or as soon as possible afterwards if they are kept occupied at that time by outside circumstances — and if they don't then they just don't get any spells that day and have to wait until the next.
But I'm cool with house ruling it down to a long rest to keep things moving. And if we get to a point where we're sleeping down here, it might get hard to reasonably tell what time of day it is.

Tragershen |

I am good with whatever you want. I think the eight hour rules is good; it will help keep momentum. If it turns out to be a mechanical issue, we can change it any time. If Tragershen survives to 7th level, I will probably be crafting a ring of sustenance, which will give him just two hours needed to have a full rest.

GM Parrot |

Well, let's try the faster pace for now, then. Let it be so: Anything that is usable 1/day can be recharged with a full night's rest, including stuff like Lolly's rage. Let me know if there are significant consequences I haven't foreseen and we'll address them case by case.
A little buff for everyone, slightly more a buff for the clerics, I'm good with it.

Bedlam Bottomland |

Bedlam is going to be down 2hp. He is trained in the Heal skill and he has a Healers kit. (+7). May he Treat Deadly Wounds for x2 hp?
Heal (Wis)
You are skilled at tending to the ailments of others.
Check
The DC and effect depend on the task you attempt.
Action
Providing first aid, treating a wound, or treating poison is a standard action. Treating a disease or tending a creature wounded by a spike growth or spike stones spell takes 10 minutes of work. Treating deadly wounds takes 1 hour of work. Providing long-term care requires 8 hours of light activity.
Task DC AoO? Time
Identify drug/pharmaceutical ? ? ?
Provide First aid 15 Yes1 Standard Action
Provide Long-term care 15 – 8 hours
Treat wounds from caltrops, spike growth, or spike stones 15 – 10 minutes
Treat deadly wounds 20 – 1 hour
Treat poison Poison’s save DC Usually1 Standard Action
Treat disease Disease’s save DC – 10 minutes
1 Table: Actions in Combat states that administering First Aid provokes an attack of opportunity and using any skill that uses an action “usually” provokes an attack of opportunity.
Common Uses
Identify Drugs/Pharmaceuticals
Source: Technology Guide
The Heal skill is used to identify and understand pharmaceuticals. No further information was provided in the source material.
Provide First Aid
You usually use first aid to save a dying character. If a character has negative hit points and is losing hit points (at the rate of 1 per round, 1 per hour, or 1 per day), you can make him stable. A stable character regains no hit points but stops losing them. First aid also stops a character from losing hit points due to effects that cause bleed.
Action/Time: 1 standard action.
Retry? You can always retry a check to provide first aid, assuming the target of the previous attempt is still alive.
Provide Long-Term Care
Providing long-term care means treating a wounded person for a day or more. If your Heal check is successful, the patient recovers hit points or ability score points (lost to ability damage) at twice the normal rate: 2 hit points per level for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 hit points per level for each full day of complete rest; 2 ability score points for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 ability score points for each full day of complete rest.
You can tend as many as six patients at a time. You need a few items and supplies (bandages, salves, and so on) that are easy to come by in settled lands. Giving long-term care counts as light activity for the healer. You cannot give long-term care to yourself.
Action/Time: 8 hours.

Given the eternal dungeon crawl we are entering, I agree with the 8-hour ruling! And, if perhaps I multi-class soon (?), I might end up with spellcasting as well....
Btw, my apologies for the slow posting the last few days. I am still sorting out all the paperwork from my car accident, and we are in the midst of Restaurant Week and we are blowing our goals out of the water... which is great, just means I have been far busier than expected. But today will be the last day, then back to normal.

Bedlam Bottomland |

Congratulations, Brand.
I actually do like the Endurance Feat for that purpose, but most of my characters (all but one actually) wear light...lol.

Talathel Rhuiren |

Congratulations Brand! And hopefully that wasn't too bad an accident.

Brand Hornblower |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |

Thank you. The car was totaled at Highway speeds, so it was pretty ugly, but somehow I walked away with little more than a sore shoulder and back. As for restaurant week, by the end of tonight we will have served over 3,600 guests this week (monday-sunday), all dining on a 3-course menu for $35, + drinks (normal check average is around $100/person).

Talathel Rhuiren |

It's a good decision to have to make. Good luck choosing!

Bedlam Bottomland |

Lol!
Going to my weekly live PFS game. Post again tonight. If you guys get rolling, you know what your Dungeon Expert can do. Bot me.

Talathel Rhuiren |

Hopefully, the first few rats out will get hurt by Talathel's two AOO with the spear, and any other damage we can do to them quickly!

Aurora Fallowarc |

Ouch! That's a real nasty save to fail.

GM Parrot |

It could have been worse! I went to a concert outside of the city, about fifteen miles, was meeting some distant family--being a fool, I took one of these unlockable communal bikes they have in Seattle, planning on ditching the bike at the venue and catching a ride back with the people I was meeting. But they were heading the wrong direction, so I went out to unlock my bike again, and... the bikeshare app uses GPS, which drains the battery on my phone, and my phone died while I attempted to unlock it. So I was stranded and phoneless and fifteen mile bike ride tired. But actually it wasn't so bad--it's sorta nice to have a problem that can only be solved by walking, and it was only four miles to the bus stop that would have got me home. Only I missed my stop and ended up downtown and having to take a train to a bus to home. A silly little odyssey, but thanks to the northern latitude it wasn't even dark when I got home at 9.

Bedlam Bottomland |

Real life spontaneously confronted adventures can be exhilarating.
I shall post Bedlam's Round 2 actions tonight after work.
Bedlam will take AoOs if using ranged, correct?

Bedlam Bottomland |

Ok, then most likely another bomb. Seems a good option; or if we have them bottled up why not just allow our front liners free reign.

Talathel Rhuiren |

Talathel is a very serious and focused person, and he would react that way to gambling, at least with such deadly consequences as a possibility.
With a different character, I'd have them leaping at the thing, gold in hand. ;)

Talathel Rhuiren |

Nice one on reaching level three folks!

Looks good, Tal!
While you've got the hood popped and a few days off, consider making a statline like the longer-tenured players. Lolly, you too, if you have time. I don't really mind diving into your stat sheets for the details but initiative, perception, saves, AC, and hitpoints are especially useful to have at my talontips.
I'm off to the Hoh Rainforest tomorrow. I hope you all get to see it someday, truly one of the strangest, most beautiful places I've ever been.

I think the Hoh Rainforest is closed to visitors for the summer.
Edit: Never mind. It will be closed starting in September.

No, but close. My niece (from Florida) was a HUGE Twilight fan, so we took the drive over to Forks with her. We drove around for a while while we were in that part of the state. My wife and niece weren't up for hiking, though. Unless, of course, I could have said a scene from Twilight had been filmed up there... :P

Sweet! Oh, the green Paizo pastures of the PNW. I'll be here in Seattle at least another year, but am from Fredericksburg Virginia.
Also, I think anonymity and privacy are one of the best parts of PbP, but if any other players want to introduce aspects of their IRL selves, I'd be curious to get a 500-mile radius sort of idea of where everyone is (and whatever else you'd like to add). I also really like hearing what people do for work, etc. But again, totally optional, feel free to ignore.
Also also, with that, I'm signing out for a visit to the enchanted ever-rainy woods. See you Friday. adventurers.

Totally! I did send you a PM earlier; I'm not sure if you could see it since Paizo buried it under the My Account heading.
Have a safe trip!

I hail from delightfully balmy Georgia, where people just casually go on walks when it's 102F before the heat index while the sun's beating down on them. I personally keep my walking and hiking to shaded areas or for after sunset... mostly because I have photophobia (which isn't actually a fear, but rather an ocular condition characterized by abnormal sensitivity to light.)
The most surreal experience I've ever had was probably driving around the evening a few hours after Irma came through. My town was completely absent power (sans for that one house with a generator), to the point that even the stoplights weren't functional. It was still raining a bit, but nowhere near as hard as earlier. A half hour of driving around occured before electricity was found in the next county, where everything was closed because it had only recently returned but all the lights were on.
Well, one thing was open that night.
A Waffle House right off of I-75.
More importantly than any of that, however, I have two dogs and have named every neighborhood critter that has visited my back porch (as well as a bat who somehow got into the house one time.)
