Welcome Alts to the next Season 7 installment!

I am changing up what I am requesting from you for reporting purposes.

Here is a google spreadsheet with your name, character name, PFS#, and chronicle #, plus a section for any special notes you want me to include for you on the chronicle sheet.

I will fill in any fields that require my initials. I will be happy to help you fill in the others, but will leave that up to you.

Make sure you dot into both the gameplay and discussion threads.

If you cannot make an In-Character post in the gameplay thread, please dot in with your alias/character and then delete the post.

Here we go!

Hello all, so just a quick update. As per the PFS Field Guide, you can change any aspect of a character until you reach level 2 (Except PFS #) and then you are stuck unless you retrain which is a costly set of rules unto themselves.

So for this scenario, Nugats will still be joining you, and he will still be a gnome and he will still be 'Nugats'.

Instead of the cross-blooded sorcerer, he is now a Kineticist (Geokineticist) meaning he draws his power from the earth. You can read more about the class in the Occult Adventures Sourcebook.

I am going to just post a short blurb about his background since this is just a try-out.

Background (Brief) :
Nugats, being the son of gnome parents, lived life on the road until his parents forgot about him and left him in the Five Kings Mountains. Growing up in Kovlar, he tried to suppress his gnomishness (and failed) and to emulate the stoic dwarves. He would fight with anyone that called him gnome rather than dwarf.

There he tapped into his inner power, and found that he could literally move mountains. The call of the earth was too much to handle from this gnomish imposter and he was driven out not so gently.

From then on, he traveled through the Inner Sea, flitting from one odd job to another. The only vocation he was good at, other than slinging earth, was gambling.

A consummate gambler, there is no bet Nugats will not take, no card game he will refuse, no dice he will not roll. Whether or not he is playing fair - that is for the observant to figure out.

Ooh, cool spreadsheet. I like it.

How would you like day jobs, etc? Here, or some other way?

Just in case here:

  • Bugdip day job: Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

By the way, Nugats, great background. I never gelled with the kineticist class during the playtest. Hopefully you have better luck with sorting it out!

By the way, changed my skills around a little to have ranks in use magic device. I can now use wands of CLW (with a high enough roll). Also bought a wand of CLW!

Male Human (Michigander) GM/1 Tactical - Where on Golarion - CLW Charges: 0

Digging the story Nugats (Pun intended!!!)

Oh - @Bugdip - feel free to steal it/refine it. Here is to hoping it makes my life easier.

Now I need to find a way to do the chronicle sheets electronically. (tried it once, it was very clunky) (then again, I was doing it in MS Paint, curse my non-existant editing skills. I really should be better at that kind of thing.)

I no longer GM for PFS... but if I did, it would be so stolen.

Sovereign Court

Cool, Nugats. I've been toying with the idea making a geokineticist, so I'm really curious how it plays.
Are you planning to play ranged or melee? (Since geokineticist can totally tank).

I might also be rebuilding Tybain somewhat. The group has quite many frontliners, so I wonder if it gets crowded in the melee. Especially when going underground in standard-issue 10ft wide hallways. A thrower would fit the Tybain character, and fit in the group. The Shield Champion Brawler archetype might be effective, but I'd need some vision to avoid the inevitable Captain America vibes. Swashbuckler-based dagger-thrower would be pretty cool as well.

And Tybain will also get back his ability to speak :P

And nice spreadsheet, GM. Why didn't we think of that before :)

@Ifran - I've actually got a couple of guys figuratively beating down my door to play, and we were already at 7.

I really want to keep the group at 6, just because that last character can unbalance things so easily, and I obviously don't have the flexibility to change it.

I will definitely keep you in the loop when we start the next one, which will definitely be another season 7. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Sorry it didn't work out!

Male Human (Michigander) GM/1 Tactical - Where on Golarion - CLW Charges: 0

Ok everyone, got some news for you.

After a PM conversation with Amin, he mentioned that he had fun, but real life has him unable to commit to another game. With Ifran unable to play as well, this brings us down to 5.

I hinted at it above, but didn't think it would actually come up, I have a friend who has been extremely excited to give PbP a try. In fact, he has been reading along with our CC game since the beginning, so I contacted him last night once I found out we were down two.

I'll let him introduce himself, but we will have a new player for this scenario. Thanks for your patience!

Okay, so I have a noob question for the group. Nugats has retooled his character, including appearance and personality. Is this New Nugats the same character we played with in the last scenario and we just metagame the fact that he has changed, but we still know him from the old game, or is the Old Nugats still a pathfinder somewhere else and the New Nugats is a wholly new companion?

Grand Lodge

Male Grippli Level 3, #-9

Up to Nugats. He's certainly taking the 'new' approach... I'd just play along (but forgot to interact... next post, I promise).

I tend to go down the road of "It takes more effort to figure the answer out than it is worth" and just pretend the new Nugats is the old Nugats.

What do you mean he was "different" before? Not the way I remember it...

:)

Like bugdip said, it is totally up to Nugats, but its easier on everyone's mind if the new version is just hand-waived as if that is the version it has always been. In the end it's just a game, and not everything has to have a legitimate explanation. (like how a cat climbed down a ladder...) More often than not I find that trying to find that explanation is not worth the time and mental energy.

Not everyone will feel that way, but thats just my 2 cents.

Male Human (Michigander) GM/1 Tactical - Where on Golarion - CLW Charges: 0

So it appears as though Paizo has crashed. Ugh. Because I haven’t learned my lesson yet, and so therefore didn’t copy/paste my last very long post.

Let’s see if I can muster the heart to retype this. Maybe it will help me refine it.

Here is my game I made up on the fly. It is a weird (possibly terrible) version of a snake charmer game. Since this is outside of the scope of the scenario, this is all pretend gold you are winning and losing, so I am not going to focus on the actual bets. Just know that somehow this clever dancing woman profits greatly off of this.

Here is how it works. Everyone participating sits in a circle around the dancer. She happens to have a strange, magical connection to the two vipers she possesses, who are currently coiled around her arms, their heads resting near to her hands. As she dances, she spins in circles, waving her scarves and arms in true Arabian fashion.

Your goal is for you to pick the buttons off of the bedazzled belt she wears. You will make a melee touch attack to snag one of the buttons. If you can successfully snag 3 buttons, then your “bet” would pay out. If not, she keeps your money. (again, not actually changing money here, this is just for flavor and fun before we start.)

Oh yea, the catch! If you get bitten by a viper, she keeps your money.

So you can sit as close to her as you want (increasing your chances of getting a button, and also getting bitten) or as far away as you want (logically decreasing chances of both). If you want to play, please make the following rolls. (you should be able to reply to this and just pick out the dice roll code instead of retyping it yourself, then make the necessary changes – I’ve added spaces so it doesn’t register as code)

[ dice=Button Grab #1, distance, AC XX]1d20+0+0[/dice]
[ dice=Reflex #1, DC XX]1d20+0[/dice]

[ dice=Button Grab #2, distance, AC XX]1d20+0+0[/dice]
[ dice=Reflex #2, DC XX]1d20+0[/dice]

[ dice=Button Grab #3, distance, AC XX]1d20+0+0[/dice]
[ dice=Reflex #3, DC XX]1d20+0[/dice]

So here is how the distances work. You must hit an AC 17 with a melee touch attack. That doesn’t change. You must also roll a reflex save to avoid getting bitten, which is a DC 13. That will change depending on how far away you sit. That breaks down like this:

  • ”Far” gives you a -2 to your touch attack, and makes the reflex save DC 9
  • ”Moderate” gives you no bonus or negative to attack and does not change the reflex save DC
  • ”Close” gives you a +2 to your melee touch attack, and makes the reflex save DC 15
  • ”Uncomfortably close” gives you a +4 to your melee touch attack, but makes the reflex save DC 18

So in the rolls above, you will put in your melee touch attack modifier, and whatever modifier you get for how close you sit. I recommend you make a grab roll and a reflex roll then preview it (dont cheat!) before deciding how close or far you will sit for your second attempt. Or just decide how close or far you will stay for all three attempts, and roll them all at once.

Make sense? Weird? Dumb? Questions?

I’ll find something interesting to do for whoever (if anyone) succeeds to “win” a bet. It won’t be anything that affects your actual wealth or gear, since this isn’t PFS sanctioned. It will just have something to do with the story.

Just wanted to say thanks to GM and others. The bar was fun but most importantly got me 'into' the Nugats character. Now to reconcile the RP with the Roll Play. Not sure this is going to be a great class, and I min/maxed more than normal. He is not going to be very effective out of combat, and seeing how that is about 80% of PFS ... we'll see.

You are most welcome nugats! Glad it helped. I love the character concept. The whole idea is fun for me as a gm because I have a hook I can riff on.

Expect many npc dwarves to have a similar response as the xenophobic ones you meet at the table. Makes for fun interaction, which is what makes this whole thing so much fun.

Now that you say that, I will say that our original bar fight is what did the same thing for me and Cyrus. Having those little dream sequence moments was the catalyst to the backstory that Cyrus and ibid have.

We really should do that more often...

Its an app for Android devices. For some reason it is no longer available to download. I've searched, cannot find it anymore. The link is dead too.

Its a pretty handy app, I really like it, makes viewing and posting from my phone much easier (though still not nearly as easy as sitting at a computer). It has some weird bugs though, so there is a part of me that is hoping that they come out with a new, improved version eventually.

What would be even better is if Paizo came out with something that was linked with their messageboard system.
