Rasheed and I have been working something out. I should be ready in a day or so. Sorry, we're been talking back and forth pretty slowly, but we've got the idea mostly done. I'll try to put something together tomorrow.
Rasheed Singh |
Why indeed, we are working on it. Carl wisely thought that given my absence during posting, we could figure out something that explained it... and also to compensate you all for the waiting.
I mean, I was really invested with this little adventure and I wholeheartedly regret not having been there during the last part.
That said I have to congratulate everybody, specially Victoria and Tristan, for how it's been handled. Kudos to you!
Andrej Bulavin |
I'd meant to catch up and post something tonight, but I'm not feeling well and my wife is encouraging me to go pass out. (OTOH, if I have to stay home tomorrow, I'll have plenty of time to post something. We'll see.)

Keeping track of and noting expenses and expenditures...
First off, I'll pay for first class tickets for all of us to ride in style and get a good day of rest on our way to check this out. If Andrej's on a break for the time being, it'd be 20 pounds for the lot of us, I believe (I'll buy round-trip tickets just to make sure I don't forget later on). First class might also make them be okay with Tristan bringing a dog along.
Over the break, Tristan gained 160 pounds, and while saving them up for later isn't a bad plan, it leaves me with more than I probably need. So for fun, Tristan makes a purchase in case we need it in the future: an armored carriage, with two Ripper-trained horses to draw it, and a machine gun in the back. That totals 84 pounds, so I'll still have plenty left afterwards.

Well what do you know, I suppose money can buy happiness.

Almost forgot, I will be camping till Wednesday. I'll try to check things but truth is I don't think I'll be able -what with being in the middle of the mountain-.
Please do bot me if needed!

Hey all, this upcoming week is my final week of classes for my senior year of college, so posting may be a little sparse (or non-existant, really) until Saturday or so. I will do my best to keep posting and I will at the very least be reading what happens, so I'll be caught up, but I may not be too active. If I find free time (unlikely) I will post in when I can. Otherwise, expect to not see me unless I'm lucky.
GM Niles |
How are you going to find them? Streetwise ask around, Persuasion ask someone specific, Survival walk around looking for tracks (I'm being facetious of course)
Ehrich "Harry" Weiss |
As am I.
Rasheed Singh |
I didn't have anything of weight to add, should have said so before.
Ready to go!
P.s.- Niles, something popped up in my mind. I was thinking about how cool yet ridiculous would be for a group of Rippers to walk around in heavy plate armor, chainmail and the like whrn it dawned on me... can we invest resources and favours on armor research? Preliminary ideas would be heavy coats lined with steel plates, something that would guve us at least a tiny edge while being "undercover" armor.
GM Niles |
Ok so. I'd like to explain my philosophy of PbP games.
Post often. In fact, post as much as possible. If posting long prose filled exposition is your thing, great, if not so what. It doesn't matter if its a 1 line "Rasheed waits for the others". It's still a post. Games die because people don't post. Everyone waits on everyone else to post and the next thing you know its been 10 days and nothing has happened.
If you aren't sure what to post. Post that. If you don't have anything to say, post that. If you don't know what to do next...post that. Post. Post. Always Be Posting.
Rasheed Singh |
Copy'd! I must warn you all, tho, that given the fact that I'm not a native speaker my "Not much to add" repertoire won't be too extensive.
GM Niles |
Hey, We are having some weather related issues here (I have satellite internet so...) and I'm taking my family on a mini vacation from Thursday-Sunday. The Hotel should have WiFi so I'll try to post daily, but if I don't you know why. If this is a game I'm GMing, I'll be back on Monday for sure. If this is a game I'm playing feel free to bot away.
Victoria Lawson |
I've never been there, don't know how much they know about that kind of thing. Only place I've ever been to in Europe is Iceland, where someone probably would recognize such old carvings if they grew up there. Granted, their language also hasn't really changed in over 1,000 years.
I figured as much, just wanted to check.
Rasheed Singh |
You know, for a while I thought that carrying three Scimitars (original steel one, cold iron and silver after La Condesa) seemed a tad overkill.
Now I'm grateful. And on the other hand, a prepared Ripper sounds about right.
I will take the opportunity to use this otherwise useless post and say that this subplot is really enrapturing me. Maybe it is the fae people (if they indeed are fae), maybe it is the celtic carvings and culture (which I am studying and love).
Victoria Lawson |
Victoria isn't carrying her other sets of claws, but she keeps daggers in her coat for such an occasion. I really should have specified that she wears either her silver or cold iron claws instead of her old steel ones since there's no real benefit to keeping the steel ones on me, but I didn't. Still, I've got daggers if I need them and if not I can use the claws I've got on me.
Also, I'm sorry to say that calling her Vicky will result in exactly one Victoria Disemboweling (TM).
Ehrich "Harry" Weiss |
A prepared Ripper is an Alive Ripper!
And I've been enjoying this too, and not just because it's Harry's first adventure. Being able to revisit a movie I watched in my childhood in such a way is an awesome experience.
Carl Jung |
There is a reason why Carl carries three canes at all times. Because two of them have silver and cold iron swords inside them.
Sorry I haven't posted in a bit, it just seemed completely illogical for Carl to know anything about Celts.
GM Niles |
Yeah about that walking armory stuff. Think about what that might look like in Victorian society(If you need a picture of what that might look like, Google "Downton Abbey" which is set about 20 years later than this but is similar enough in aesthetics). A man, an exotic foreigner, armed with not one sword but festooned with them. He's walking with anther man who has a cane in one hand, a cane in another hand, and one strapped to his back for good measure.
It kinda pushes the bounds of credulity. Rippers is meant to be as much a delve into Victorian society and culture as it is a game about killing monsters.
One sword, or one cane could be explained away. Three? Probably not so much.
Victoria has the right of it, she keeps all her blades hidden under her overcoat.
Rasheed Singh |
Actually, I had that very same concern in mind. Figured one blade at the belt wouldn't be that much of a stretch given the Sikh vibe, while the other two are inside Rasheed's bag.
That said, I didn't write down any bag or backpack -why I didn't when every character of mine, no matter the system, has at least two leather based containers? Escapes me- so I will leave it to the DM discretion as to which sword does Rasheed carry.
I might be as bold as to suggest Cold Iron or Silver, as we knew the possibility of fairies being involved, but once again Niles has the final saying.
As my old papa always says: If you f+%# up or overreach, assume the consequences.
GM Niles |
As a bit of a compromise, you guys DO have an armored carriage that Tristan purchased. Might I suggest your personal armories be carried there, that way they are always fairly nearby.
However, I don't think you took the carriage this time.
The Bitter Lord Tristan |
The walking armory issue is the reason for purchasing my mixed-metal sword cane--a silver-headed cane is far from attention-drawing (at least in a bad way), and with the cold iron blade concealed within, Tristan has access to both metals as needed. That said, part of the reason I bought the armored carriage was for storage of extra equipment, so yeah, I imagine most of our extra weapons are kept there (or at the Lodge). We may not have them all the time, but if we know what we're in for, we can have them ready.
Of course, the mobile armory does mean we can't very well take mundane passengers along with us most of of the time. "Thanks very much for the ride, and--I say, is that a machine gun?"
Rasheed Singh |
"Indeed it is. Consecrated by three different priests, we call it The End."
I'm game for the machinegun. Other news: I broke my phone and couldn't post anything meaninful, will do it tomorrow morning.
Please assume Rasheed relays any information and takes the frontline if the consensus is advancing (I propise so), and assume Rasheed only carries his cold iron scimitar and the dagger his faith dictaminates.
Ehrich "Harry" Weiss |
Being a pacifist, Harry only has a couple of spare throwing knives for self defense purposes. Nothing very special about them overall.
Carl Jung |
I was mostly joking about the canes. Carl carries one with him at all times (because what gentleman doesn't own a fancy walking stick) and leaves the others either in his bags or in the carriage if we bring it. He's carrying his cold iron one right now because he's worried about fey.
The Bitter Lord Tristan |
Hey all, posting this in all my games to let people know I'll be away for a few days. My family is headed to camp later today, and I won't have Internet or my computer while I'm there. I should be back and posting Friday afternoon/evening (Eastern Time), but please push the game as needed, botting my character if you need to do so. Thanks!
Ehrich "Harry" Weiss |
That is one REALLY vicious stab, ouch!
GM Niles |
That's the thing about Savage Worlds...you can go from fully healthy to flat on your back in 1 hit ALOT easier than in most other systems.
Exploding dice are nasty.
Victoria Lawson |
I don't know if this matters, but shouldn't I have killed two of them? I rolled identical damage for both attacks and was attacking both the enemies in front of me. I killed one of them with a single attack last round, did I need both of my attacks for one of them this round for some reason? If not, we're missing a dead gnome somewhere; I killed one last round and Rasheed killed one, and two of them should have been killed by me (unless something prevented me from killing with each hit, as I said). Can you explain this to me? I'm a little confused here.
Also, unless there's something up with them mechanically (like ignoring all my armor or something) I'm counting one too many Wounds.
GM Niles |
27 damage 9 toughness
first 9 go to the first wound (you were already shaken)
27-9= 18/4=4.5 round down to 4, so 4+1 wounds.
I missed that you were attacking each one with a separate attack. Your rolls confused me. Next time resolve each one separately for me.
All that said, it does reduce your wounds to 4 plus shaken, since you killed the gnome that taunted you into the shaken position.
TL/DR: Your attack killed both gnomes, but you are still wounded and shaken.
Victoria Lawson |
Sorry, I thought my description made it evident I was attacking them both. I'll make sure to mark it down in the future. As I said, I'm going to see if the others can put a dent in them before I do anything this turn.
As a side note, maybe next Advance one of our magical-wielders could pick up Healing as a power? It and the Healing skill can be used to together, and it could really help with situations like... well, like this one.
Ehrich "Harry" Weiss |
Hm, are we able too? I'd always assumed it had to be from what was listed in the Rippers book, but reading it again it might have just meant initial powers.
Victoria Lawson |
It looks like Rasheed is the only one who actually qualifies to take it, according to the Arcane Backgrounds. Come on, Rasheed; you called me Vickie and I haven't disemboweled you, it seems only fair.
I just remembered that Victoria does have a shot of morphine, so assuming I don't remain unconscious (or dead) I can get myself through the rest of the fights without too much trouble, hopefully. Tristan, that might be a decent use for some of our expendable cash.
GM Niles |
Err. There was a description?
I'm JK obviously, but I did kinda gloss over the description and look at the rolls. After rereading the post...yeah I should have known what you intended. The rolling 2 attacks and then 2 damages separately kinda confused me I guess.
re:Healing Yes its a Miracle background only
GM Niles |
Hey, I'm really sorry about taking all week to post. Somehow, I couldn't see that Victoria had posted and I decided to bot her this morning...only to discover she posted actions 4 days ago. Sorry guys.
Victoria Lawson |
Hey Niles, can you give me a guideline of how long the effects of morphine might last for in-game purposes? Victoria has two syringes full of it, but the book has no real mention of how long it nullifies wound penalties. Morphine typically lasts between 2-4 hours, give or take a half an hour, but I don't know if you want to stick with that or not. I'm considering pulling a vial and popping it to nullify my wound penalties for now, but I want to make sure it will last me a while before I do so. I don't want to use some and then have it wear off before we possibly get into another fight.
On an unrelated note, have you heard anything about Andrej returning? I seem to remember you saying he'd be rejoining us, but I haven't heard anything from him.
