Okay, its been a week since we started the discussion thread and I think we only have two characters out of five made and ready.

I'm gonna kick this thing off Friday morning so we need to finish up making our characters and tying them together before then.


WiP Backstory:
Ein has no memory of his life before washing up in Mistshore of Waterdeep. A flag from a ship lost at sea was wrapped about him, but it was faded to a dull purple-grey, giving no clue as to the ship he had originated from. Only the skills of a sailor left him with an aching memory of his forgotten past. Lost, confused and angry at the world, Ein stumbled his way through Waterdeep after barely escaping the unsavory types of the Mistshore. Outside of Waterdeep he found himself in the Ardeep Forest, and was taken under the wing of a Ranger named Eleanor Wain. With her he found his feet and for a time enjoyed life in the woods, but he became restless and felt the need to move on.

Then some other stuff happens for however many years and he settles in Silverymoon or the like for a time, before one day wanderlust takes hold again.

Then he meets the daughter of Eleanor and decides to adventure with her.


I will be starting as a Paladin, possibly multiclassing into Wizard eventually (though I am worried about my INT score if I was to do so). My god will be Silvanus as well, a worship Ein learned from Gail's mother.


Not up on my multiclassing, so take this as it may.

But aren't Paladins and Sorcerer both Charisma based casters? Would that not make for an easier match? The divine casting perhaps reactivates a family's long dormant spell casting lineage?

Would ease the ability need to bring up Int for a wizard, also no RP need for the intense arcane study by a divine player to make the switch.


That is true, but the Bladesinger pairs very very well with Paladin if you can manage the stats. In my personal opinion it appears to make for one of the best gishes out there. Still there is something to be said for a Favoured Soul Sorcerer coming out of a Paladin.


Ah yes forgot about the blade singer part read the overview of it wasn't thinking of it being a wizard in the mix.

@Niles can I check my understanding of Cleric spell casting? I think it's very similar to Arcanists from pathfinder, in that you can memorize a bunch of spells and you can cast them by using a spell slot (of the spell's level or higher). When you cast a spell you don't unmemorize it.

I wasn't sure if I should even roll for planar knowledge and I wasn't sure whether I should have used Arcana or Religion, but I went ahead and did it. I guess it doesn't really matter either way though.

Nice, I find that works out quite well for my Arcanist. Of course I doubt there's Quick Study in 5e...

On the plus side you get to choose from every spell in the cleric list still. So refreshing your spells every day is nice.

@Gail sorry yes thats casting in 5E.

You memorize a certain number of spells iirc its WisMod+level.

You have a limited number of spell slots and spells can "expand" to fill a higher slot but not "contract" to fill a lower one.

IE: A 1st level spell can be cast with a second level slot, but not vice versa.

Clerics/Druids have immediate access to their entire spell selection, Bards/Sorcs/Warlocks have a very limited spell selection, Wizards have books and can add spells.

@Siobhan You can roll any skill you want in 5E there isn't a such thing as "trained"

I'm sorry this little mini module turned out so crappy. I'll spell out the plot metagame for you so you can at least get some small knowledge about what was going on.

1) The House itself is a malignant entity that's been "eating" adventurers for nearly a hundred years
2) The original occupants the Dursts were evil cultists that worshipped Strahd as the Diety of Barovia. That is until he showed up and massacred the entire cult for interfering with one of his convoluted schemes.
3) When that happened the poor children were left to die in their rooms of starvation (pretty R rated right there)
4) The children were actually ghosts, the Dursts were turned into Ghouls and you never encountered them (they were the other shrieks you heard in the basement). The first children you encountered were an illusion made by the House in order to lure you inside and then murder you.
5) There were tons of clues in other rooms that you could have found that would have pieced all that together for you(and there was some loot =/)...and by the time I realized we were skipping all of them and going straight to the Basement I couldn't think of a way to spill all those beans in a way that made sense.

It's ok Niles. Looking back I guess the thing is we were told 'a baby was in peril' I can't imagine Gail stopping to explore given that plot hook.


Yeah no biggie. It was an organic decision to bypass the rest of the house. Meta- wise once we were seeing room numbers in the 20s...i think we all knew we'd fouled the designer's carefully crafted reveal :D

5th player? I'm up for another PC if the others are. Shouldn't be too hard to come across someone on this demi-plane as far as storyline goes. PC sleeps and strange mist dumps them ;)

CURRENT spells: comprehend languages (1st), scorching ray (2nd), Misty Step (2nd) Mirror Image (2nd)

Niles with Malthorn's special ability being Hellish rebuke I dropped it from his list of spells if that is ok and did the level swap of scorching ray for burning hands and picked up Misty step and mirror image. If not ok I'll keep burning hands
