The start of battle has Aodan automatically reaching for his long bow, but he's not accustomed to using it in such a cramped space. Instead, he draws his short sword as he moves swiftly forward, staying away from the insect until he can circle somewhat behind it.

Upon seeing Aodan join the combat, Grayson decides to join in and drops his short bow and unsheathes his bastard sword holding it with two hands as he walks in to the closest insect.

Round 2, Init 13
One of Candrana's blades bites into the side of the remaining insect. Ezekiel makes it down the ladder and moves to get a clear shot. The insect decides it liked the taste of Zilchus and tries again.

"Of course it was the insect!"
Round 2
Ow! She bit me again!
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 Fort
"Did you say something, Candi?" I can't tell if it's her or the chitters of the insects. Both so droney.
Zilch presses the attack against the standing bug.

1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 damage.

Zilchus Lyghtlode |

Zilchus lashes back at the creature putting an end to it as it's body curls up before going limp.
I don't recall Zilch saying he was curling up and going limp just yet...he has 4 more hp, you know.
Zilch uncurls and revives after felling that mean ol' insect.
"Did you guys see that? I just came up and bit me!? Outta no where!" Zilch rubs his wounds.
"Sonuvadwarf, that's going to leave a mark. Ayep. We should be more careful."
Zilch looks around to see if he can find a nest or anything of interest in the room.

Looking over at Grayson, nodding appreciatively. "Always preferred the tall bows myself, but yours shoots true, even here under a ceiling." He sheaths his short sword while looking at the obviously sharp Bastard Sword. "Nice blade, too." Must have been trained by Elves... or a true noble.
Hearing Zilchus complain. "Yeah, you should be more careful." It seems neither Elf nor beard helped this one.
If he sees the hinges on the statue, he'll drop his pack to the ground and try to open it.

Zilchus Lyghtlode |

Zilch snickers.
"I guess the maiden doesn't want to be boned," Zilch titters, clearly winning. Winning what, he has no idea.
"C'mon, let's find another way forward," Zilch suggests while standing at the back of the party, still gripping the mean wound he received from the not-Candi bite.
"Hey, there is a door over here!" Zilch points to the door on the map. "Let's go this way."

ಚಂದ್ರನ ಕಿರಣ Candrana Kiran.a |

Candrana rolls her eyes at Zilch's typically human wit. She mostly ignores it, but sniffs as he continues to hold his scratch nearly mortal wound.
"Do you have anything to staunch that? Anything with scent will be able to smell you coming. And you'll smell like lunch. Right, Grayson?"

Grayson Wulfrics |

"Of course. I recommend that you stay close and not stray to far who knows what kind of other creatures we are are dealing with down here. Let's go on through the door and see what else lurks." Grayson says, as he picks up his short bow and makes his way to the door Zilchus pointed at.
Perception to listen at the door: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

As the group moves toward the door Zilchus notices a slight glimmer in some of the rubble. It goes to take a closer look and finds two silver daggers with some strange notches cut into the flat of the blade.
Sorry forgot about these and Zilchus would have found them earlier.
Grayson hears nothing from the other side of door and feels confident enough to open it. Grayson sees numerous jail cells line these long-abandoned corridors. Each of their solid iron doors hangs ajar, and includes both a peephole at eye level covered with a piece of sliding metal, and a smaller slot for food and water at floor level. Hallways lead off to the east and west.

Grayson Wulfrics |

"Looks clear. So which way guys? We got hallways going east and west. Anyone have any superstitions that they would like to get out of the way?" Grayson asks as he's getting an arrow ready for his bow.

Zilchus Lyghtlode |

Zilch, still with lingering bite wound, enters the hallway and goes left.
"Maybe this way? I thought there was a rule for this sort of thing. What was it?" Zilch scrunches up his face trying to remember the rule.
He sheathes his sword and draws his short bow, nocking an arrow.
"Maybe these two doors first?" Zilch says, indicating the two doors nearest him.
He awaits Candi or Aodan or Grayson to open them.

![]() |

Aodan looks at the ceiling one more time. I guess I could get a straight on shot off, even with a bow as almost as tall as me. But it wouldn't fly with that elegant, arching trajectory that a true Elfshot would have.
As he spots Zilchus nock a shaft, the half-elf steps forward armed with his short sword. "Good move. Cover us."
He's ready to accompany Candrana, trying to make sure nothing can immediately threaten the wounded man, knowing Ezekiel will keep the rear safe, and that Grayson can be effective with blade or arrow.

Grayson Wulfrics |

Grayson takes position next to the door ready to shoot inside to cover Candrana and Aodan or shoot down the hallway if anything should try coming.
"I got this hallway covered along with you guys, let me know what you find or if you need me."

Zilchus Lyghtlode |

"I got this hallway covered along with you guys, let me know what you find or if you need me."
Zilch takes the opposite side of the door, looking equally serious as Grayson.
"Yeah, I got you guys covered too! Yeah, *I* got your backs," Zilch holds his bow up to show how covered you guys totally are.
Zilch poses on the other side of the door, looking so much more serious and protectiony than Grayson.

"One where their guest accommodations were somewhat lacking." Candrana looks into the cell, scanning for anything interesting. If nothing snags her attention, she moves to the next door.

First the iron maiden and now a set of cells? In the middle of a small frontier settlement? "Quite the dangerous town, I guess."
Aodan will accompany Candrana and the bowmen down the hall, peeking in the next door or two.
He looks at Grayson and Zilchus. "What do you think they held in here?"
Did the bones in the iron maiden appear to be human? Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
It doesn't look like the cells are designed for kobolds. Perhaps a place where a strong ruler keeps there beardless in line? Rustic rebels or other local dangers? Or is something else more nefarious going on?
Any known threats to this area? Barbarians or other uncivilized creatures in the forest? Knowledge (Geography): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Moving along down the hallway there is a short corridor leading east ending in 2 doors. Candrana continues her search by opening the door to the north. Candrana waits a moment to confirm she is totally covered by Zilchus. Opening the door there are the rotting remains of what looks like a desk. Along the north wall seem to be some small hooks for hanging items. A few of the hooks appear to have have fallen to the floor over the years.

Zilchus Lyghtlode |

As the group moves toward the door Zilchus notices a slight glimmer in some of the rubble. It goes to take a closer look and finds two silver daggers with some strange notches cut into the flat of the blade.
After searching the desk, Zilch flinches upright at the bugs...which reminds him of silverbugs...which reminds him of silver...which reminds him to go back and pick up the silver daggers he saw earlier. On the way back, he gives one of the daggers to Aodan, the other to Candi.
"I found these. Totally. Even while keeping you totally covered. Here take it," Zilch offers the blade hilt first.
He moves to the double doors, keeping them covered while waiting for someone to open them.

Grayson Wulfrics |

"I agree Aodan, I've never seen a tower like this. Either someone has a sick fetish or someone was keeping people to experiment on. I hope its the first one. Anything unique about those silver daggers?" Grayson asks

![]() |

Aodan takes the silver dagger and sheathes it, still wielding his short sword as long as Zilchus and Grayson cover Candrana with their bows and Ezekiel guards all butts with his firestick.
"I'd think they held humans here, but a while ago. Don't know any enemies in the area, so who they held..." He shrugs. Fetishist or mad scientist? The local nobility had not been doing their do, diligent duty. Or they were in on it.
Upon hearing the Elf's exlamation, Aodan tries to peer around Zilchus, preparing to move in front of the bowmen if something threatens.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Grayson Wulfrics |

"What do your elf eyes see Aodan?"
As he looks down the hall to make sure Ezekiel is covered from where he is standing.
"How's that wound of yours looking Zilchus?" Grayson asks with a worried tone in his voice.
Boy I hope those things weren't poisonous or worse filled with disease, I'd hate to have to kill another man, but we all must do what we have to, to survive.
