Garedon

"They say that this is their cave and that they claim it for their clan, and that they will kill any "foolish enough to stay or that wander into [their] territory". I will ask them to clarify the extent of their claim and suggest alternatives, including making the way back to the holy room impassible."
"I respectfully ask for elaboration and clarification. How much of the cave system do you claim? Just this section or all the way back the way we came? Do you claim the hall of which I spoke?"
"It is of interest to humans and gillmen, especially, and has nothing of interest for you - and it will continue to draw them, some foolishly but some violent and well-prepared. (We, for example, have just slain a minotaur.) Perhaps we could block the way between here and the sacred caves, ensuring that you are left alone?"
Garedon will then paraphrase what he said and then their answers, if given.
In case it is required:
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Garedon, using the technical dialect associated with the study of spells and arcana, may have just inadvertently formulated a 'provocative' idiom in the kobold dialect.
Oh, dear. Garedon may not be a murder-hobo, but he does inspire people to want to murder him.
Zander Scott
|
While Zander does not speak fluid draconic, he is fairly certain that offspring of an improperly formed egg and cared for by the undesired harlot of a bottom feeding amphibious slug. is not going to get a very good reaction from the lizardfolk. He therefore hefts his glaive in anticipation of combat.

Sorry for the delay. If you choose to stay then Zander and Garedon are up.

Garedon

Garedon considers, "The appearance to this individual is that neither my words, nor the potentially mutually-beneficial solutions to our conflict of interests represented by them, have been well-received by our reptilian counterparts, such that my apprehension is that our inclinations towards resolving this without our adversaries resorting to hostile measures may not be satisfactorily realized. Furthermore, the accusation has been made that I am trying to, loosely translated, "trick [them] with big words," and as such I am concerned that we may be attempting to deal with actors who may not be completely rational."
"As agreeing to their position would require us, any gillmen pilgrims, and any other visitors to vacate the entire cavern system never to return, I suggest that our mission requires us to make a principled stand to defend access to said cavern system."
Garedon goes on like this until stopped or until missiles begin to fly.
Lady Adelaide
|
Adelaide seems perplexed as Zander and Garedon attempt to exchange words with the lizard-like men in the raspy, reptilian tongue. She reluctantly lifts her falcata as the lizard-men shift into a fighting stance. "Well, at least we attempted to speak with them before we start the bloodletting...."
Vyk Tyr
|
Vyk shrugged. "Well, we tried being nice."
Diplomacy, or something like Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
Vyk is considering a run for office. He wants to run on a platform of Goblin Equality and tougher sanctions on Cheliax.

Sorry, yes - He wasn't going to fire the first shot, and is puzzled why his entirely logical efforts are not doing better...
I moved us up a bit and moved Garedon to the front since he was the one trying to negotiate with them.
Zander Scott
|
Never hold up the game just for Zander :) If I haven't posted I either have nothing more to add, or am too busy with work/family.
Zander's shoulders slump as the lizardfolk refuse to budge. "We mean you no harm, but we will be exploring these caves. If you insist on attacking us, we will have no choice but to defend ourselves." He then sets his glaive in a defensive posture, sincerely hoping the lizardfolk don't press the issue.

The creatures move forward slings at the ready. One is speaking to the other as they move into postion.
Green dot sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Blue moon sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
The sling bullets go wide hitting the wall next to Garedon.
Everyone is up. Zander your action will go last as you are the top of round 2.
Vincent Blackwood
|
Vincent sees the lizard men loose their slings at the Zander and takes that as his cue to go in. Sword in hand, he quickly moves across the cavern, attempting to leap over the shallow river.
Attempting to leap across the river at the point that it's 15 ft wide, which should be a DC 16 to clear with a "running start." If I fail, I will continue by swimming. Hopefully I will end at Q6 (40 ft away).
Acrobatics(long jump) DC 16: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 - 2 = 19
Swim DC ?: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 2 = 19
Edit: I might just need the acrobatics check, based on those rolls.
Vincent Blackwood

Vincent hasn't, I don't think. There's probably traps everywhere and I need to make 20 Ref saves now. So for now I'm calling them lizard people.
Vyk Tyr
|
Vyk dashed toward the river L5. He smiled at the Kobolds, and gave them a little wave. He evoked cold energy into his hand, and launched it at a Kobold.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
But his foot slipped on a pebble, and the ray went wild, nearly hitting Vincent's hair.
"Oops."

Haha, I so totally did not get "kobolds" from "lizard men!" :op
Here we go again...
Tuich takes a giant step forward (G7), loads her last magic stone into her sling, and begins whirling it over her head.
"You're not the only ones who can use a sling, you know!" she shouts as she lets fly at one of the lizard men. (P4/green dot, which I believe she has line of sight on from her new location?)
Ranged Attack, Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Nor do you have a monopoly on being lousy shots!" Sigh.
Lady Adelaide
|
Still feeling reluctant, Adelaide moves to J4, falcata at the ready, and prepares to jump across if the lizard-men press on with their attack. Ready an attack if one jumps across the river in front of me. Not very likely, but it'll do.
This feels wrong- they only want to defend their home. I have my orders, but I certainly don't like them...
She keeps her inward musings to herself, remembering the lecture she'd gotten last time she hadn't felt comfortable cutting things down.
GM Kyshkumen

Garedon strikes one with a missile fired from his wand. Tuich tries to return fire and has the same success as her attackers. Adelaide moves forward to a defensive position. Vincent rushes forward to leap over the stream and just before his jump feels a tug at his legs.
Dart trap: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Make a fort save DC 13 or take 1 con damage.
Vyk fires a ray of blue energy and almost gets Vincent's hair.
had a lol moment Vyk as a friends voice popped in my head quoting Micheal Jackson, "Mama my hair!". Anyway Zander is up and I expect he should post tomorrow when he gets into work.
Zander Scott
|
Seeing the kind of reaction leaping has earned Vincent, Zander stows his glaive and withdraws a sling, setting a stone in the cloth cup and sending it whirling over his head.
1 action to stow glaive, second to pull out sling.
GM Kyshkumen
|
The creatures drop their slings and draw spears attempting to surround Vincent.
Green dot: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Blue moon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
They hiss in anger as Vincent proves to be a difficult target to hit.
Everyone is back up again. Vincent don't forget your fort save and in case you missed it in the early discription the stream is only about 1 foot deep.
Vincent Blackwood
|
I somehow missed it in the description earlier. Good to know my awesome jump wasn't actually necessary.
Fort Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Vincent, seeing that he is still alone on this side of the stream, backs away slowly, trying to learn his opponent's individual quirks in combat before laying them low with his blade.
5-ft step, Total Defense. Moon one is now not engaged, so should be an easier target.
Also, since I think I failed that save, I have to make another save sometime on my turn, if I remember poison rules correctly.
Fort Save vs Poison: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Garedon's missile strikes the creature hard and it goes down.

Vincent makes a mental note that the lizard people are frailer than their scaled skin would suggest.
Lady Adelaide
|
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (5) - 4 = 1
Adelaide tries to jump nimbly across the river, but slips on the wet stone and soaks herself with a splash of the murky water. She slogs through the rest of the small stream and shivers on the opposite bank.
"Stand and f-f-fight, creature!" The effect of her normally ringing voice is lessened by the stutters as she trembles in her now-wet clothing.

He said never wait for Zander so here we go.
Zander spots an opening for a shot after Vincent steps back. He takes aim and lets a bullet fly.
ranged: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Not being his weapon of choice his sling bullet goes wide. The creature lets out a mocking bark sound and moves up to what it thinks is a weaker target. It attempts to stab the dripping wet Adelaide as she trugs out of the stream.
melee: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
He manages to connect but does only minor damage. He still hisses with delight as he thinks he is winning.
That's still 1 damage as the dice roller doesn't know about miniums. Everyone is back up.
Lady Adelaide
|
Adelaide shrugs off the kobold's hit- 'tis only a flesh wound. "You should have listened to them."
Falcata: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Crit Damage: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 3, 7) + 9 = 23
Without another word, the dripping half-elf rends the creature in two.

There is nothing of value in this area so moving on. You go back to Uori and his sacred pool. "You have returned and the waters tell me you were successful in removing the final evil presence from the cave. So now I will share a lost secret for the original use of this cave. The waters tell me that there were 12 murals here and that each one had a ritual that could be preformed at the tiny city. If completed correctly it would grant a blessing. Please feel free to attempt any of these rituals as you have done much in securing this holy site for my people." He then bows respectfully to the party.
Here is a recap of the murals for everyone.
You are able to make out a image of a craftsman and a section of the holy text called History and Future of Humanity, the primary text of Aroden. The Craftsman is depicted creating shoes, pots, jewelry, and other moveable goods, referencing Aroden’s delight at seeing his people express their ingenuity in creating new products from raw materials. With your keen perceptive skills you are also able to identify the begger who is depicted kneeling with an alms bowl raised high, representing Aroden espousing humility in all, lest they forget their shared humanity. The fisherman who is depicted hauling in an enormous catch of small fish to take back to Absalom, illustrating Aroden’s declaration that a great host of creatures could accomplish a great task, whether that be taming the wilds or feeding a nation. Last is the hunter who is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain. All the other reliefs are to far gone to decipher.
Vyk Tyr

"We appreciate all you have shown us, but The Pathfinders wish to document history and culture. To learn from our past, and secure a better future through knowledge. There are 12 murals here, you have interpreted 3. We would learn of the other 9. By performing a ritual, do we risk damaging this artifact in any way?"
Garedon
|
"I would choose the hunter slaying the giant serpentine creature, making the wilds safe for habitation, as that representation would appear to be the most emblematic of our party's accomplishments proximal to and within the cavern system, making the cavern system safe for study and pilgrimage."
GM Kyshkumen

There should be enough players back that you can attempt a ritual at the model city if you wish, or you can move on. I'm going to re-post the room description for you just so you have an idea of your surroundings.
The soft light of the surrounding fungus mixes with the flickering glow of the nearby torches to reveal a grand chamber. A large pool of water along the chamber’s southern edge reflects the blue and green radiance to illuminate the massive stalactites that cling to the ceiling overhead. Two other tunnels branch off from this area, leading to the east and west.
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
Vincent Blackwood
|
"I like the sound of this Hunter ritual as well. Is this something to be done as a group, or individually?" Vincent asks, not really sure how obscure rituals from a long-dead religion are to be carried out. But something celebrating taming the wilderness through killing monsters sounds alright in his book.

Vincent thinks for a while, contemplating the party's lack of giant serpentine foes in the past day. He then announces, "I'll be right back." He goes back outside to where the slain minotaur lays. He picks up the corpse and makes the journey back to the chamber. He wades into the pool, the minotaur raised above his head and out of the water. He tosses the body on top of the miniature stone city and announces, "The most worthy foe that threatened the nearby peace has been slain, and its body shown to the imaginary little people of this city. The blood of this foe of civilization now runs through its streets. The wilds are safe!"
He looks over at Uori and grins. "Something like that?
If that wasn't right, then I imagine the Azlanti is going to be a bit annoyed at Vincent desecrating his sacred pool with a dead body. We will see.

Tuich blinks in surprise at Vincent's activities, then returns her attention to studying his glyphs in an effort to discern anything useful.

Is there a relevant check to made here if we study the murals? History, Arcana, Religion?

Uori tries his best to hide the shock from Vincent's bold choice but nothing seems to happen. After an awkward moment he chuckles at the strange scene in front of him. "Perhaps you should try something.....more to scale? This is a large cave here, I am sure you can find something more fitting."

But they're friendly :O
With a sigh of defeat, Adelaide returns to the group. "Looks like the only things in here are us, some centipedes, and...."
She leans closer to the model, scrutinizing the frogs intently. "Why are you here, in this tiny city, little froggies? Is there something you're hiding from us?"
Sense Motive???: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
She stands back up, wracking her brains for any connection between golden cities and frogs. "You don't suppose.... you don't suppose we have to kiss one, do you?" Making a face of disdain, she touches a finger to her nose. "Because that's not going to be happening, contract or no."
