New to game

I'm new to the game but bought the Wrath of the Righteous base set, is that a mistake? should I have boughten the first base set? or is this (wrath of righteous) a stand alone version, thanks

All of the Adventure Paths are standalone works, though some may reference events that happen in another AP or module. None of that really impacts the one that you're running directly.

Reason I went with Righteous was it seemed some of the adventure packs in the store for the first set (forget the name) weren't available to buy. Also how do you know when it's time to move onto another adventure deck? I bought the base game, plus adventure deck 2.
