@Dendarial - You can certainly craft in the wilderness, but so long as you don't have a proper workstation (where tatzlwyrms might not sneak up behind you, for instance), you'll only make half progress for each hours spent working. On any given 'adventuring' day, you'll be able to find about 4 hours of time to work on making stuff between other various 'adventure' tasks, which means you're only really getting 2 hours of progress.
If you stayed up all night at Oleg's to get a full 8 hours of work in someplace safe, you'd get all 8 hours of progress (and obviously be tired the next day). The same applies to magical crafting if/when people start rolling those up.
@Thomas - I don't see why not!

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

Here are some facts:
1) We were in the creature's nesting area so it's attacking us was not totally unprovoked.
2) Dendarial's arrow took down the wyrm.
3) Dendarial stopped the creature from bleeding out.
4) The creature was not evil and above animal intelligence. It also had a language and could communicate.
5) While Den was patching it up and trying to work out with the group what was the best course of action Tyanos stepped up and tried to kill it without any discussion.
6) After Den stepped in his way Tyanos left the group. His leaving was the primary reason we all had to stop exploring and head back to the trading post.
Den has now twice tried to patch things up with Tyanos only to have his efforts be rejected. I have done all I know to do. It seems to me that the player of Tyanos seems to enjoy this type of conflict. I do not. I am literally loosing sleep over it. So now this game is impacting my real life health.

Tyanos Strostia |

I think something very fundamental is being overlooked. PCs and players are not one and the same. Tyanos is not me, he is a character. No more then Oleg or the mites are the DM. I have nothing against anyone personally nor do I take it that way. Whatever I think of Dendarial I have not linked or brought to his player OOC in these discussions.
Honestly I would like to know what exactly is the problem? Much less this solution. As it seems that I am being told how to play my character or that he should be played a certain way. By another player. I am also now personally being given motivations and agenda's, which I do not appreciate as a person.

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

I hate to sound so thin skinned, but from my point of view you the player have decided to pick on my character. Now, among other things you are using your considerable diplomacy to take suggestions and half truths to cast him in a negative light with NPCs. This is your choice not the PCs, and it is an attack on my PC. You have now even stated that the other PCs do not trust me, which if true, has at least not been vocalized. That too was an attack and I at least think is completely untrue. Other PCs can tell me if they do not trust me. But even if a lie, it still can flavor NPCs that heard you state it as fact.
I do not want to play your character but refuse to bow to what I see is your attempt IC to dominate and control my character.
The conflict both IC and OOC is no fun at all to me. And while I know there are always two sides to any conflict I honestly see this totally as one sided and unprovoked by me, unless you count not rolling over to let myself get kicked provoking. Perhaps I should just bow out. I have a number of other games that I still greatly enjoy.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

While I hate the idea of forcing anyone out of the game, if it really is upsetting you so much then maybe it would be best to dip out. It's just a game, after all!
At this point I think the problem really stems from differing styles; I've not read Tyanos' posts with any sense of hostility beyond the average (and stereotypically dwarf-to-elf) bickering. I don't think Tyanos has any real intent to control anyone's actions--he's merely playing the self-interested and practical merchant. He rolls his eyes at Dendarial because Den is simply far less interesting in making a profit and sticking it out for himself--Den's more the natural-world type.
Consequently, the problems seem to arise when Den and Tyanos have it out (in character!) on something related to that. The wyrm, for instance, can be summed up something like this:
T: This thing just tried to eat me, it's going to do it again, it should die.
D: Most wild animals would try to eat you. Should we kill all of them?
T: If they've already tried to eat me, probably.
D: We should at least try to communicate with the beast before we kill it!
T: F**K that noise, I'm not getting almost-eaten again; I'm outta here!
And again, I have no problem with in-character conflict like this. I don't see Tyanos' refusal to deal with the wyrm as any more railroading-the-group's-action's than Dendarial's insistence to try and communicate with it/find its lair/whatever else. Having characters that don't always get along is part of the fun in roleplaying them... but when it starts to get disruptive to the game, or starts to drive you mad OoC, then something's got to change. (Also again) I don't want to force anyone to leave a game they don't want to leave. I'd much rather things be settled in a peaceful manner or, failing that, have someone bow out gracefully rather than being tossed out the door.
Thoughts?

Thomas Leafbearer |

I fully agree with the sentiments here.
Try to settle in a peaceful manner.
Failing that, if one bows out gracefully as opposed to being booted would be the next best choice.
Although I would prefer the first option. :)

Tyanos Strostia |

As I said time and again, I do not connect anything IC to OOC. Meaning it was never a problem for me to begin with. Until it was made one by another. I can only speak for myself in the end. That said I tend to roll with things when encountered as I judge my character would. Be that good or bad. All I ask is for that to be respected if not agreed with, as I have done. I am sure not everyone agrees with each others actions or choices. But they have the right to take them as well as the consequences or lack there of. If that is fine I would like to move on with the game. If not or something else has to be said well I will be here for that too.
I don't see much more I can say or rather keep saying over and over apparently.

Thomas Leafbearer |

On another note, I will figure out how much I can craft in a 2 hours per adventuring day, to determine exactly how long it will take for me to make things with the materials I bought.

Thomas Leafbearer |

Did the calculations, at the level of crafting that I have, I can produce 6.2 sp of production in a 2 hour day. :)
25 sp of production in a 8 hour day.
This will only get better. :)
All of this assumes that I just take 10 on my crafting.

So... with how the river divides this hex, you won't be able to finish the mapping here without first getting across the river. You could swim across (or caulk the wagon and float!), or you could just keep it half mapped (I'll mark the map so we don't forget) and finish it up later.
In the latter case, you can use the same survivals/perceptions for the next hex you enter.
Thoughts?

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

I'd rather look for a safer place to cross the river and just keep exploring for now. The out of game mechanic of having a hex completely explored is not worth the in game risk of a crossing, at least to me. Onward!

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

FYI - I am traveling for the next week and will be back home on August 30. I'll have limited posting until then, but I should be on some. And after I get back I am headed to Dragon Con on September 3 and will likely not post between the 3rd and 7th.

Thomas Leafbearer |

Going fishing this weekend, and don’t know what the signal will be like.
If I haven’t acted within 24 hours, please bot me. I should be back on Monday.

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

Hey Dmitri, Its not fair to poke me and then disappear. Had Den responded adequately to your query or not? I hope you can see at least how Den sees the difference between a threatening bear and a wounded and unconscious wyrm.

Thomas Leafbearer |

I am not sure if I had asked this earlier, but does anyone have an issue with my creating a communal pot?
This will be where we will keep cash for things like Cure Light Wounds wands, or other things that will benefit the group.

Tyanos Strostia |

Oh Kesten will learn or make no mistake once I collect enough minions things will not go well for him, not well at all. >:)
NG the only alignment that lets you push a incompetent general down a flight of stairs to make sure he is too injured to lead his army to slaughter. Hey what's a few broken bones compared to the lives of good men and their righteous cause. Desna is very forgiving, anyways if she was against it I would have missed. xP
Concerning loot pool, I am good with that. Just remember Tyanos can use wands too his just have to be arcane. So cure light wounds is doable for him as well if you want a back up.
As for the next place to go, I am thinking east of bokken's place to hit the borders of this books map. Thank you folio. Then, assuming we hit nothing, we can head southwest, southeast, and from there makes a long circuit. So long as we do not run into anything that requires our attention that is. Personally I doubt we will map more then a hex or two before we hit something.
Edit-Nearly forgot what is the price of language books? Or is it based on the language?

Thomas Leafbearer |

Well, the majority have spoken, and the communal pot it will be.
Well, looks like we already had agreed. :)
BTW, with what money we found, and the 400 that was just given us, each of us gets 62 gp.

Helio RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32 |

Poor Kesten has no idea what's coming to him ;.;
@Tyanos - the language books cost from 25 to 50 gp, depending on the rarity and complexity of the language. Some languages (druidic, for instance) might not have a book available at all. According to the retraining rules, it takes 20 days of study - not adventuring around. You can still learn it while wandering around, but it's going to take significantly longer than dedicated study, just like trying to craft on the move would.

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

Even with masterwork tools and a decent skill, crafting a +2 Strength composite bow will take 10 weeks without a missed skill check. It would be another 10 weeks to make it masterwork. And that is dedicated time too. Getting in 2 hours of crafting a day it would take 4 times that, or 80 weeks. Not sure that I should even bother. Sigh. These rules do not really work.
Just making a composite bow will require 18 weeks (4.4 weeks of dedicated time) by the rules as best I understand them.

Thomas Leafbearer |

Don't I know it. But to get to the decent skill levels, you got to start somewhere.
Right now, it will save you a mint on arrows though. :)

Tyanos Strostia |

Well things get easier all around once we get our kingdom going and have kingdom turns that are basically months at a time. So we could eat up years even between book one and two. Making crafting a bit laughable at that point in ease. That said we are low level and less then a month out (I think) in game time so life is hard. Get used to it, otherwise it wouldn't be an adventure now. Also I would start smaller, their is a reason why low skilled craftsmen don't spit out masterpieces. Much less in a short amount of time. ;)
Concerning the books I don't want to blow the little gold I got so depending on the price I am hoping to get two. Can you give me the prices for Undercommon, Infernal, Abyssal, Auran, Boggard, Cyclops, Dark Folk, and Goblin?

Dendarial the Ken Hunter |

Yea, Den is going to make a composite longbow first. He can sell his regular longbow and more than cover the cost of the mats. Taking 10 on the skill (if he can do that) it will take about a month to make.

Thomas Leafbearer |

Then it just came back, as it initially came up, this does not exist anymore.
I will have to check a couple of my other games to see if it has come back on them.

Thomas Leafbearer |

Helio, I just made a copy on my computer, and will keep that up to date as well, so if lost, will not be as much of a pain to reset.
As for the route, I am hoping the others weigh in first, but yes, I am
thinking of a clockwise route.
