“Welcome to Varisia, welcome to the city of Magnimar, welcome to the Pathfinder Lodge of Heidmarch Manor, but most importantly, welcome to my home.” Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch greets you in her low, breathy voice, finishing with a warm smile.
“Varisia is a land of ancient wonders and exciting possibilities,” she continues, “and I’ve found it most helpful to keep a team of Pathfinders on call at the lodge at all times, should anything of interest to the Society come up unexpectedly. This assignment is only temporary. We’ll rotate in a new team to take your places in a few weeks, but rest assured, there’s plenty of potential for you to make a name for yourselves as Pathfinders here."
“I’ve arranged for you to stay in Bakrakhan House, one of our guest cottages, for the duration of your stay here. It’s currently unoccupied, so you’ll have the place to yourselves. You’re on duty starting tomorrow morning, so take some time to settle in, wrap up any unfinished business you have in the city today, and should the Society have need of you, I’ll contact you directly. Now, are there any questions before Ebrylis here will lead you to Bakrahan House?"

"Thank you for your welcome and your generosity, Venture-Captain Heidmarch, especially for founding this lodge and for welcoming us into your home," Merevelyn replies, very sincerely.
Dotting, and ingratiating herself. ;-)

![]() |

Darmut nods ruffling Shersht's neck feathers and says, "If Shersht may stay then so will I, I have no problem sleeping in a stable or such if you do not wish claw marks upon your floors, but for the most part he does well enough indoors - though we are both of us better used to caves."

![]() |

"The hospitality is appreciated," Wyeth says with a nod. "And I could do with a good meal as well," he adds as he grins at Saitama. "I recently gave most of my rations to a pack of goblins, and it's been a while since I've eaten."

![]() |

"Greetings Venture-Captain. Thank you for the welcome...this Varisian environment sure is different from my home."
At Saitama's comment of the workout though, he lays his hand firmly on the shoulder, and says in a tone suggesting discipline....
"Why..brother Saitama, have you forgotten your promise? You would accompany me in 2 hours of meditation tonight."

![]() |

"Was that tonight? I thought tonight was Muscle-ditarod training and tomorrow was preparation for the Meditation Marathon?"
With that, Saitama pulls out a scroll vellum with notes, mostly stick figure drawings in various poses and scribbles throughout.

GM G |
Venture Captain Heidmarch answers your questions "Dinner will be served at sunset in the manor's dining room, Ebrylis will show you where it is on your way to Bakrahan House. The Roc can stay in Bakrahan House, as long as you will fit his claws with something that protects my floors. Ebrylis, can you point Darmut in the direction of the ostler?
She then takes her leave, leaving you in the care of the half-elven guardsman. He tells Darmut where he can get cloth gloves for Shersht and shows you the dining room. He then shows you Bakrahan House, which is the middle of three cottages in the back yard of Heidmarch manor.
Bakrakhan House cozy stone cottage with a slateshingled roof and stained glass windows depicting colorful Varisian designs. The ground floor consists of a den centered around a wide stone hearth, a small kitchen with a side dining area, and an exterior sun porch. The second-story loft contains private sleeping quarters for up to eight people.
You will all go into the city, to do whatever you want (sorry for the railroading) and return to the cottage. Please describe what you do and where you do it. For example: .... will go upstairs and read a book / .... is preparing an afternoon snack in the kitchen downstairs. Also include a perception roll. Thanks!

Darmut heads into town and procures a couple of whet bones for Shersht which he gives to the eager Roc who begins gnawing upon it sharpening his beak.
Perception Darmut: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Perception Shersht: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Can we get chronicles from the last game so we can update our characters? Forgive me if you already sent them out, but I do not recall receiving it. I would like to make some purchases and train Shersht in a new trick, etc.

Saitama joins Marduk for the promised meditation, sitting in lotus position, eyes closed, and trying to focus on the various strikes, katas, and forms he's accumulated within his mind's eye.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

![]() |

Updated Marduk to drop his stealth this scenario, regaining when hitting lvl 2 anyway, for profession: Sparring partner. (for any combat training in town) If that is ok with you GM, else i'll undo it.
Marduk will have accompanied Saitama on his other activities.
When the meditation is over he asks his fellow Iroran;
"Brother Saitama, have you ever heard of the unconventional Sucker-Punch? I've once met monk whose style required him being drunk.
He'd fake a punch, opening his fist to reveal a small item for the opponent to focus on, then clenched hisfist again striking the distracted opponent. Said any opponent foolish enough to be distracted is a sucker....and that the appropriate punch."
Assuming terms are different in Golarion to our standards.

Mevevelyn has gone in to town, using her 'street smarts' and knowledge of Varisian to keep the men-folk out of trouble and, also it must be admitted, to do a little shopping. (Caelum flits ahead and above and behind, adding to her reconnaissance in a habit learned long ago in that infamous neighborhood of Oppara, the Narrows.)
Eventually, in her scouting of the town, she manages to find the right sort of book dealer and picks up a "Blue Book" for Magnimar. Oh, and some fresh berries and bird seed for Caelum. ("No, Saitama, you do not plant them and grow birds: there are just seeds that birds like to eat.")
Coming back to the Lodge and the cottage, gong upstairs to read her new book and plot out her path tomorrow, getting to know the real Magnimar, with Caelum twittering softly in her ear about sights so far.
I haven't used Caelum much so far, but really need to figure out how to get use out of him.
Perception, Caelum: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Perception, Merevelyn: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

"Nice little place," Wyeth comments when the group is shown to Bakrahan House. He heads into town with most of the group to do a little restocking and to browse for bargains. Afterwards, he returns to the group's temporary lodgings and finds a quiet place to put in some herbalist study time.
Edit: Oops, overlooked this:
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Darmut spends the rest of the day getting Shersht fitted for a set of fine quality studded leather armour, keeping the roc calm as a nervous leather worker takes his measurements by reciting a grim litany of their kills together - it does not do a great deal to keep the leather worker calm.
Buying MW Studded Leather Barding fro 200gp, and selling back Shersht's leather barding for 20gp - full value since still 1st level, etc.

GM G |
Marduk, that is fine, you are lvl 1 so you can rebuild as much as you want between scenarios.
Location wise we have:
Outside the cottage: Marduk and Saitama meditating / Darmut and Shersht with whet bones
Cottage upstairs: Merevelyn
Cottage downstairs: Wyeth
Waiting for Sterelin to state his location, will move forward this evening (CET)

GM G |
Perception Marduk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Perception Sterelin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Sterelin and Wyeth are inside, discussing the use of nettle as a medicine. Outside Marduk and Saitama are discussing several combat moves. Darmut is looking at Shersht as the Roc savages a bone.
Merevelyn decides to go upstairs to get her new book from her backpack, as she reaches the top of the stairs she sees a goblin rummaging through a wardrobe in the sleeping quarters!
Even though Darmut is outside he hears a weird sound from one of the open upstairs windows.
Darmut: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Marduk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Merevelyn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Saitama: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

?
This encounter is a chase, using the chase rules. If I am correct two of our heroes have a speed that is not 30': Wyeth at 20' and Shersht at either 20' or 80'. For Wyeth that means he takes -2 on his checks. Sherht is a special case with either -2 when walking or +10 when flying. We will see how it goes.
Present locations:
Exits to House Upstairs and Outside, no check required
- Sterelin
- Wyeth
Exit to Manor Outer Wall by dropping through the window (Acrobatics DC15) or by climbing down the window (Climb DC20)
- Goblin
- Merevelyn
Exit to Manor Outer Wall or House Downstairs, no check required
- Darmut
- Marduk
- Saitama
- Shersht
This is a surprise round, and Darmut and Merevelyn can act.

Merevelyn says, "Goblin! Caelum, follow out the window! and casts Grease at the goblin's feet!
Grease DC 15.
Not one of the stated options, but maybe it could push things in our favor right off by slowing it down or stopping it temporarily.
Caelum's speed is 40' flying. Caelum will fly out the window (speed 40') and just try to keep the goblin in sight.

GM G |
You can take any action you want, only movement / location is abstracted during a chase. Melee attacks are possible if you are in the same location, while ranged attacks are possible from other locations (although you might have cover penalties)
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Merevelyn casts a spell at the floor beneath the goblin's feet, but the goblin reacts quickly and dives through the windows, landing in a roll and quickly getting up again right besides Darmut! Caelum hears the commands from Merevelyn but things are happening a bit to fast for the trush: "Goblin? What, where?"
Marduk, Saitama, Sterelin and Wyeth hear Darmut's shout and when they look up from what they were doing they see a goblin standing next to Darmut at the outer manor wall.

Darmut grapples the goblin as Shersht swoops over to his position, moving to flank the creature.
"Struggle and this is going to hurt a lot more than it has to," the hunter says in his emotionless unwavering tone.
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Silently but intensely cursing both the goblin and her own failed spell, Merevelyn runs downs the stairs, shouting, "It went out the window!"

![]() |

"Huzzah! We get our exercise afterall, although it has been a while since I've played 'Duck, Duck, Goblin'!"
Saitama immediately makes chase, reaching the manor wall and then attempting to scale it.
Move action to go from Outside Manor to Wall, Standard action to bypass the check.
Climb check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
"How un-enlightened of me, I forgot my climbing chalk!", Saitama announces as his fingers just barely fail to scale the wall.

![]() |

Correct on the 20' move rate, GM. He's great fun to watch on ice, too. :oP
"Goblins," grumbles Wyeth. "Why'd it have to be goblins?" Leaping to his feet... er... foot... he grabs his fauchard and 1d100 ⇒ 80 heads outside as quickly as he can. "Window!" he barks at Merevelyn. "Front, back, side?"

![]() |

"Back! To the Manor's outer wall!" Merevelyn shouts back.
I'm guessing 'back'. I don't have a good mental map about what connects to what.

GM G |
Escape Artist DC17: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Wyeth and Sterelin hurry outside, just as Marduk comes barging in to check what the commotion is about. Merevelyn comes thundering down the stairs and Caelum flies through the window in pursuit of the goblin.
Outside Saitama sees Darmut grab a goblin. However the goblin manages to wriggle free of Darmut's grip and it then draws a peculiar sword with holes drilled through the blade.
Saitama tries to climb the wall to check if there are more goblins on the street but fails. Then Shersht lands gently next to Darmut.
Darmut: No flanking as location is abstracted during a chase, sorry
Sterelin: It is unclear whether you can take a double move to move 2 locations if there is no check required. GM's ruling: no double move allowed.

I would argue that flanking should be allowed, nothing in the chase rules, as far as I can see, says you ignore the regular rules of combat.
Darmut draws his trident stabbing at the goblin two handed while Shersht pecks and claws, but only manages any accuracy with one great talon.
Darmut Trident: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Shersht Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Shersht Talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Shersht Talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

![]() |

Spitting into his hands, Saitama makes a leap and tries to pull himself over the wall.
Climb check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
With much success, Saitama sees the others surrounding the goblin.
"Awww... who's it now?"

![]() |

Merevelyn runs outside, causes a wand of magic missile to spring to her hand, and retrieves a scroll of expeditious retreat. "If I can't do anything else, I'll just out run it."
I'm assuming we get two moves actions per turn? Sorry, I haven't read up on the chase rules.

GM G |
In my opinion you can trade in your standard action for a move action, but can not spend that second move on moving to another location if you already used your first move to move to the next location.

Merevelyn throws her hands up in the air, saying, "I couldn't help it! It was Grandma's recipe!" "And Grandma always appreciated the big eaters..."

Marduk and Shersht attack the goblin, but only one of Shersht's attacks strike home! Wyeth and Sterelin arive at the outer wall, where they just see Saitama climbing over the wall. Saitama lowers himself into the busy street that runs parallel to the wall. Fortunately there are no goblins to be seen, just people going about their own business. The goblin tries to wriggle through a gap in the wall, noticing that she chose the wrong gap she desperately looks if there are other gaps that she can dart through.
Marduk and Merevelyn leave the house and are now outside

Merevelyn runs out towards the manor's outer wall, then draws a scroll of Expeditious Retreat.

![]() |

Wyeth's head snaps around at Merevelyn's answer, and he curses under his breath as he heads towards the stone wall at the back of the manor, arriving about the same time as Sterelin.
"Hey, you!" he shouts as he spots the interloper. "Don't screw up my new opinion of goblins! Stand down!" He flips his fauchard around and swings at the goblin with the butt of the shaft in a subdual attempt.
Fauchard (to subdue): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 4 = 13

Darmut, Shersht and Wyeth attack the goblins, but all miss the lithe creature. It peeks at Sterelin who chose the wrong gap to pass through towards the street and then the goblin chooses the right gap! Darmut, Shersht and Wyeth use the goblin's distraction to attack him, but all miss again!
Saitama sees the goblin enter the busy street, the small monster is looking around. It is not clear whether it will bolt to the left or right on the street. Marduk and Merevelyn arrive at the manor wall where they meet the rest of their team (except Saitama, who is already on the street).

Ordering Shersht to attack Darmut attempts to climb the fence, but falls back not able to quite make it over.
Shersht simply flies over the fence swooping down next to the goblin.
Shersht gets +10 for speed and +10 for flight so should not need to roll.
Darmut Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

GM G |
Marduk, you need a standard action to try the wall, so either climb or acrobatics. There is a possibility to do both when trying to move 3 places ahead on the chase, but as the goblin is only one place ahead it does not really make sense to do that. (And as you do not know where the goblin is headed I would probably rule that you can arrive in the same spot, but not overtake the goblin)
Edit: I will just assume you tried a single escape artist. As you failed both it does not really matter which roll I pick.
Edit2: Darmut, please roll an attack for Shersht, it would be ridiculous to take his standard action for flying over a wall.

![]() |

As big as Shersht is, it's probably more like a simple leap with wings outstretched to get over a courtyard wall.
"HOLD, DAMN YOU!" Wyeth shouts at the goblin as he tears after him.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Unfortunately, so focused is he on giving chase that the oracle pays no attention to his fauchard's orientation. As he tries to dive through the break in the wall, the shaft of his weapon slams into stone on either side.
"Look mommy, pretty stars and birdies!" he mumbles as he stares upward from his suddenly prone position on the lawn.

![]() |

Seeing the advantages of quicker movement, Merevelyn casts her scroll of Expeditious Retreat then attempts to squeeze her lithe frame through the best break in the wall.
Speed now 60'. Now the Escape Artist check, if I can do that in the same round as casting the spell, or next if not.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 6 = 17 (The +6 is for the +30 ft.)

GM G |
Sorry Merevelyn, activating a scroll and trying a chase check are both standard actions. We will keep the roll for next round
